Perfect spot to watch the Teign estuary with all its splendour on a blustery day. We were able to take shelter and ordered lunch. Our Granddaughter is vegetarian and was disappointed with the choices. But in the end was happy to settle for cheesy chips. Portions are big. Smoothies lovely. Would have welcomed more choice of sandwiches.

This place is clearly run by a greedy self-consumed money grabber. Absolute rip-off and embarrassment to the owner. Nearly £11 for a cream tea! Clearly pricing as high as they possibly can and trying to get away with it, until someone writes an honest review .. Shame on you! I bought a slice of cake today. Had to take out a second mortgage, but woman behind the till took great please in telling me that the slice was ‘much bigger’ than the usual pre-cut slice. She said ‘don’t expect that next time time you come in’. I kid you not! Jeez. Luckily for me there won’t be a next time. Luckily for them these ignorant tourists will keep paying these extortionate prices and filling these Jewish pockets.

Delightful café and justifiably busy on a wet Saturday lunchtime. Dogs are welcome and if their owners are coeliac then they can cater for them too. They have a separate fryer for gluten free and will substitute across their menu. They do gf bread and have a menu available via QR code where you can select allergens. Food was delicious, staff super friendly, patient and helpful. We had brunch - great variety including lots of vegetarian options. The atmosphere was lovely and areas have clearly been updated recently. Plenty of seating upstairs and down, right by the beach and a stone’s throw from the Teignmouth foot ferry.

After a visit to Ness beach we walked back to Shaldon & a seafront café recommended by Ethan's grandparents who live locally, that we'd driven past, on our way to the car park. The welcome was friendly and there were some inviting cakes to tempt us before we selected a table outside overlooking the estuary yards away and sitting in the sun and the shade mid to late afternoon, seating was comfortable & well located. After checking the menu we all elected for various seafood dishes & ordered & paid at the till, prices are not cheap but the quality of food and service we received, offers a very definite value for money. Portions are generous, lots of cheese on the cheese & garlic bread, a good portion of scampi for me, generous well cooked chips and a large portion of mushy peas, no skimping, the sauces were exemplary. The guys enjoyed their seafood platters, generous whitefish, generous everything, again with stunning sauces, we shared & ate everything & the drinks, Earl grey tea, a good pot, three cups, expensive but superb, Ethan loved his beers and Chris enjoyed his lattes. So much food, the guys declined the option of sweets or cakes & I politely agreed, but they'll be every bit as good as the generous starters and main courses I am certain. The environment was pleasant and quiet, the staff so friendly & attentive, everything was cleaned & cleared as quickly as possible and they were busy even though it was well into a Sunday afternoon, deservedly so. Highly recommended I will be taking my seafood loving sister & family there when they visit me in Exeter in future & together with the enchanting village of Shaldon, we'll all be back visiting & make a bee-line for this amazing café.

It’s been a while since I could be bothered to write a review but after arriving home from a weeks holiday in Shaldon I feel compelled to praise The Clipper. We visited here most days, whether it was for breakfast, coffee, a cheeky afternoon G&T or for evening dinner. Since we have a couple of fussy non adventurous ones in the family, the evening menu is perfect as there’s a lot of safe options but there’s also some more adventurous options on the main menu and on the Specials Menu. I’d highly recommend the Seafood Stew ! Great views from inside (on the upstairs balcony) and outside on the terrace both during the day and at night. One of the best things though in my opinion are the staff who are very friendly and attentive but also very efficient. Thanks very much, you made our visits even more enjoyable and we look forward to returning again next year.

Hi having stopped off at Shaldon this afternoon for a walk around the village decided to stop at the cafe for a drink, it was very clean and i was somewhat surprised that on the boards at the back behind the counter were all the menu prices for the edible food but no prices displayed for hot drinks which i found quite unusual. Well i'm not surprised as i ordered a pot of tea for one and a small cappuccino, when told the price of £7 i paid and couldn't believe the total cost. On leaving the premises i took a look at the menu on one of the tables only to be quite shocked i had paid the same price for a pot of tea as a small Cappuccino, £3-50 each i have never been to an establishment and seen the price for a pot of tea was the same as a small cappuccino. I'm sorry this is not right we thought about going for a bite to eat when we first walked past but i'm sorry after being charged what i was for a pot of tea wont be visiting the cafe again, i have lived in Torbay for 31 years and i don't mind paying for items which are good value for money but i think there is an over charge in this instance.

We arrived in Shaldon late and wanted to grab dinner. We walked to a local pub and it was rather loud and I could not be bothered with it so with time being late we walked to the cafe as it was close to our stay. I was not looking forward to my dinner in a cafe, greasy chips, cheap burger and terrible service. All the things a cafe in a large town/sea resort bring to mind. Thats why you need to bin the cafe from the title as you are selling yourself short and must be loosing customers which may not be the case in the evenings as it was packed. We were greeted at the bar by the most helpful lady, with the sad news of have you booked this evening? Erh NO we have not. Just a mo, and a quick look on the cameras and there was a table that she sent us to up stairs. Great view and the menu and drinks order was quickly delivered and taken. Starters, Whitebait, not a complicated dish and hard to get wrong. How many times have you had rock hard deep fried whitebait in a tiny dish with bread and butter thrown on the side? This arrived and was perfectly cooked, plenty of them, lovely fresh salad with peppers in, coleslaw (sadly this was very slightly not quite the best and cost you the star as i could not do 4.5), lemon and tartare sauce. Really lovely dish and so much you could share and not begrudge letting others tuck in. Mains, the children went for scampi and chicken- each with beans and chips. You know how you normally get 2 scampi and 3 or 4 bits of chicken, 6 chips and the worlds smallest pot of beans because its a children's order. Wrong!! You get half a tin of good quality beans, a great big portion of chips and plenty of scampi or chicken which ever you go for. My children were stuffed by the time they finished which is very rare when we go out. I plumped for the burger, I know not very exciting but I was starving. Expecting a cafe burger, similar to one you get at a show, dry bun, hand full of chips and loads of bits in the burger to make it look big. Wrong again!!! I will put it here it was the best burger I think I have ever had. The quality of the meat and seasoning was amazing. The cheese was melted to perfection, the bun was excellent, the chips were fresh and crisp, the salad seconds from being picked from the fields it was just fantastic. Sadly because the children had taken so long to eat so much food the kitchen had closed and I could not order my pudding. Have no fear they did a takeaway at the till!! What a great evening in a cafe! The staff deserve a pat on the back for excellent service from the bar, the girls serving, the chef who nipped out to see his kids swimming in what must have been the coldest looking water i have ever seen, to the pot wash team. Just something about the coleslaw that cost you a half star but I cant put my finger on it, but it certainly did not spoil the evening. We may have to nip back this evening, but we may book as it is a Saturday night.

Whilst the location is absolutely first class, the food leaves a lot to be desired. We had a Sailors breakfast here recently (£11.95). The sausage is probably one of the worst I have tasted - totally synthetic. The button mushrooms were also of the cheapest quality and probably came out of a tin where they had been stored in brine. The baked beans tasted as if they had been watered down and once again were the cheapest quality you can buy. We both had so called granary toast with the breakfast which was the most disgusting bread you can buy. I have to say that previously we have eaten a bacon bap (£6.75) here which uses the most disgusting and cheap white baps that you can imagine. They are more like eating soft cardboard. Unfortunately we won't be visiting again which is a shame. For the prices they charge the ingredients could be far better and clearly they are making a lot of money by serving cheap ingredients at high prices.

Brilliant vegetarian breakfast. I liked the fact the “sausages” weren’t those fake meat ones but vegetable croquettes. Good job I’d had an exceedingly long walk as it was a very big portion. It was also all piping hot when served to me. This is a quibble of mine in a lot of places where it feels like breakfast food is cooked and then kept “warm” waiting for someone to order it. A luke warm fry up is not appealing butClipper Cafe cannot be faulted on that front, it was perfect. The staff were really helpful and even took my tea tray outside for me so that I could concentrate on settling my dog at the table and didn’t have to leave her to return for the tray. Lovely views over the harbour from the downstairs patio.

This is a beautiful spot with outdoor eating & surrounded by sea views. We visited the Clippers 3 times during our one week holiday one of which was our last day for breakfast before we headed off. Reason for the 2 is because of a member of staff who served my husband 3 times in the cafe when ordering & was extremely rude & put out when asked for additional items. She really upset my husband so I don’t think Clippers should employ staff like that who can destroy the whole experience of the place. Other staff were extremely attentive & great but all it take is one person to ruin the café’s experience. It’s the lady with blonde hair & pink bits of hair in her hair. We can’t name her because staff don’t wear name badges. Staff who are not not serving with a smile & banging cups etc because she’s been asked for something extra like ice etc shouldn’t be in the hospitality industry. It takes allot to upset my husband so I’m afraid despite the gorgeous setting & food we won’t be returning when we are back for 2 weeks next year unless this lady is given training or gone elsewhere. It’s a real shame because it’s a lovely spot by the sea & we had no issues with the food or service outside

Had a seafood platter for a late lunch which was awesome and some cheesy chips. Drinks are a bit pricey, 16 quid for a cider and a medium white wine spritzer, but I guess you're paying for the view. Happy with the food prices though, it was really good. 👌

The location is stunning but you pay for this with the very expensive pleasantly looking but not great quality food and drinks. The hot chocolate is a real let down, luke warm chocolate coloured milk. The pancakes..tasteless, rubber, cheap, very disapointing. I think they probably get one-off passing trade because it is always busy? Maybe people giving it a second go in the hope it improves? But that is the last time I try, regardless of location.

Absolutely lovely. The Mango Dream smoothie was delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Mango Dream smoothie: cold, sweet, and fruity -10/10 (it also has compostable packaging!) Whitebait: crispy, fresh, and tasty -10/10 Clipper beef burger: cheesy, meaty, perfectly cooked with plenty of tomato sauce -10/10...

We had a lovely time having drinks, dinner and desserts here, the servers very friendly and the chef is extremely talented with his original recipes! We had a halloumi burger, leek and potato soup and a fish’n’chips, a few ciders, 2 scoops of salted caramel ice cream and a vegan honeycomb tiffin. All were well made and I would definitely recommend this place for a good time! They have a large outdoor seating and in good weather it would be difficult to leave this place 😎
