We had a half decent breakfast here on a cold September morning with a lovely view across the estuary. We wrapped up warm so we're able to eat outside, I had the big breakfast and it was ample. The food was pretty good but I think they really could do with getting better sausages and please render the fat off the, bacon, it makes all the difference. A weird herb in the mushrooms too. But it was warms, eggs cooked perfectly, lovely hash brown and great toast and coffee. The service was quick and friendly and it was a lovely location and atmosphere. Would I go back? Yes but would probably avoid the sausages until they changed supplier.

A late afternoon lunch in a lovely spot with beautiful views. Although the cafe seemed popular and busy throughout the day we managed to catch that afternoon sweet spot after the much rush but before evening dining. The downstairs is bright and clean and welcoming with an outside terrace serving ice cream, overlooking the harbour. Upstairs also had seating and an outside balcony with tables offering an elevated view of the estuary - beautiful at golden hour. The classic burger we ordered is a LARGE portion with a big juicy burger cooked perfectly accompanied by plenty of chips and salad. All the food was prepared fresh on order but didn't take long to arrive. The service throughout was friendly and welcoming and I would while heartedly recommend a visit to the Clipper Cafe..., if you can find your visit just right on a late-summer evening just as the light begins to turn (with a glass of their own Clipper Gin if you like?) then you won't be disappointed.

Breakfast bap, bacon, like leather, huge sausage the should have been spilt in two rather than stuck on one side, it was tasteless anyway, egg was good! Bap £6.80 £3 for the two extra things. Total £13 with an americano. Not impressed. No mention on their menu or website of the additional cost for the extras, I don't mind paying for them but I think I should be informed before ordering.

We have visited the Clipper Cafe frequently during our holiday and every time the food has been superb in terms of quality and price but the main thing that stands out is the friendly, professional and really helpful team. A very popular restaurant with amazing food and views! We were very fortunate to fall upon this restaurant. On entering it became very apparent how popular it is. There was lots of food to choose from and an array of non and alcoholic drinks. Staff worked together well to work through serving the long queue of customers without showing any signs of stress. We chose the seafood sharing platter which looked amazing and had lots to share and lots of variety. We decided to sit outside under a wooden gazebo which gave stunning views of the harbour and towards Teignmouth, although we were outside we still felt cosy due to how beautifully decorated the outside is. You can catch the little ferry from Teignmouth to this location. We definitely recommend the visit.

This place is clearly run by a greedy self-consumed money grabber. Absolute rip-off and embarrassment to the owner. Nearly £11 for a cream tea! Clearly pricing as high as they possibly can and trying to get away with it, until someone writes an honest review .. Shame on you! I bought a slice of cake today. Had to take out a second mortgage, but woman behind the till took great please in telling me that the slice was ‘much bigger’ than the usual pre-cut slice. She said ‘don’t expect that next time time you come in’. I kid you not! Jeez. Luckily for me there won’t be a next time. Food was delicious, staff super friendly, patient and helpful. We had brunch - great variety including lots of vegetarian options. After a visit to Ness beach we walked back to Shaldon & a seafront café recommended by Ethan's grandparents who live locally, that we'd driven past, on our way to the car park. The welcome was friendly and there were some inviting cakes to tempt us before we selected a table outside overlooking the estuary yards away and sitting in the sun and the shade mid to late afternoon, seating was comfortable & well located. After checking the menu we all elected for various seafood dishes & ordered & paid at the till, prices are not cheap but the quality of food and service we received, offers a very definite value for money. Portions are generous, lots of cheese on the cheese & garlic bread, a good portion of scampi for me, generous well cooked chips and a large portion of mushy peas, no skimping, the sauces were exemplary. The guys enjoyed their seafood platters, generous whitefish, generous everything, again with stunning sauces, we shared & ate everything & the drinks, Earl grey tea, a good pot, three cups, expensive but superb, Ethan loved his beers and Chris enjoyed his lattes. So much food, the guys declined the option of sweets or cakes & I politely agreed, but they'll be every bit as good as the generous starters and main courses I am certain. The environment was pleasant and quiet, the staff so friendly & attentive, everything was cleaned & cleared as quickly as possible and they were busy even though it was well into a Sunday afternoon, deservedly so. Highly recommended I will be taking my seafood loving sister & family there when they visit me in Exeter in future & together with the enchanting village of Shaldon, we'll all be back visiting & make a bee-line for this amazing café.

It’s been a while since I could be bothered to write a review but after arriving home from a weeks holiday in Shaldon I feel compelled to praise The Clipper. We visited here most days, whether it was for breakfast, coffee, a cheeky afternoon G&T or for evening dinner. Since we have a couple of fussy non adventurous ones in the family, the evening menu is perfect as there’s a lot of safe options but there’s also some more adventurous options on the main menu and on the Specials Menu. I’d highly recommend the Seafood Stew ! Great views from inside (on the upstairs balcony) and outside on the terrace both during the day and at night. One of the best things though in my opinion are the staff who are very friendly and attentive but also very efficient. Thanks very much, you made our visits even more enjoyable and we look forward to returning again next year.

Hi having stopped off at Shaldon this afternoon for a walk around the village decided to stop at the cafe for a drink, it was very clean and i was somewhat surprised that on the boards at the back behind the counter were all the menu prices for the edible food but no prices displayed for hot drinks which i found quite unusual. Well i'm not surprised as i ordered a pot of tea for one and a small cappuccino, when told the price of £7 i paid and couldn't believe the total cost. On leaving the premises i took a look at the menu on one of the tables only to be quite shocked i had paid the same price for a pot of tea as a small Cappuccino, £3-50 each i have never been to an establishment and seen the price for a pot of tea was the same as a small cappuccino. I'm sorry this is not right we thought about going for a bite to eat when we first walked past but i'm sorry after being charged what i was for a pot of tea wont be visiting the cafe again, i have lived in Torbay for 31 years and i don't mind paying for items which are good value for money but i think there is an over charge in this instance.

We arrived in Shaldon late and wanted to grab dinner. We walked to a local pub and it was rather loud and I could not be bothered with it so with time being late we walked to the cafe as it was close to our stay. I was not looking forward to my dinner in a cafe, greasy chips, cheap burger and terrible service. All the things a cafe in a large town/sea resort bring to mind. Thats why you need to bin the cafe from the title as you are selling yourself short and must be loosing customers which may not be the case in the evenings as it was packed. We were greeted at the bar by the most helpful lady, with the sad news of have you booked this evening? Erh NO we have not. Just a mo, and a quick look on the cameras and there was a table that she sent us to up stairs. Great view and the menu and drinks order was quickly delivered and taken. Starters, Whitebait, not a complicated dish and hard to get wrong. How many times have you had rock hard deep fried whitebait in a tiny dish with bread and butter thrown on the side? This arrived and was perfectly cooked, plenty of them, lovely fresh salad with peppers in, coleslaw (sadly this was very slightly not quite the best and cost you the star as i could not do 4.5), lemon and tartare sauce. Really lovely dish and so much you could share and not begrudge letting others tuck in. Mains, the children went for scampi and chicken- each with beans and chips. You know how you normally get 2 scampi and 3 or 4 bits of chicken, 6 chips and the worlds smallest pot of beans because its a children's order. Wrong!! You get half a tin of good quality beans, a great big portion of chips and plenty of scampi or chicken which ever you go for. My children were stuffed by the time they finished which is very rare when we go out. I plumped for the burger, I know not very exciting but I was starving. Expecting a cafe burger, similar to one you get at a show, dry bun, hand full of chips and loads of bits in the burger to make it look big. Wrong again!!! I will put it here it was the best burger I think I have ever had. The quality of the meat and seasoning was amazing. The cheese was melted to perfection, the bun was excellent, the chips were fresh and crisp, the salad seconds from being picked from the fields it was just fantastic. Sadly because the children had taken so long to eat so much food the kitchen had closed and I could not order my pudding. Have no fear they did a takeaway at the till!! What a great evening in a cafe! The staff deserve a pat on the back for excellent service from the bar, the girls serving, the chef who nipped out to see his kids swimming in what must have been the coldest looking water i have ever seen, to the pot wash team. Just something about the coleslaw that cost you a half star but I cant put my finger on it, but it certainly did not spoil the evening. We may have to nip back this evening, but we may book as it is a Saturday night.
