The Clipper Cafe in Torbay

Tasteless food and highly priced. Coffee at 3.60 a cup was hot, brown water. A bacon sandwich was 2 packet slices of white bread covered in 'spread' and the bacon had been kept a bit warm somewhere for a long time.. it was hard, stringy. The croissant was something akin to one from a supermarket packet of 6. Total bill over £17! Please can owners occasionally eat the food theyre serving and check if they are offering value for money!? It was quite shockingly poor and we'll not be going back. View or no view, it doesn't make up for poor quality food.

Rooms not rated as a local to the Cafe. Often, when you see a Sandwich for around £10, you get a flimsy pair of pappy slices and some cursory filling. Oh no, possibly the best fish finger sarnie I've ever had. Generous portion, really tasty, healthy dollop of Tartar sauce, genuinely delicious. And for once I think the homemade coleslaw was actually homemade. It was delicious and I don't really like coleslaw. The location is of course fantastic, love that it's dog friendly too, I don't have a dog, but it's always nice to see dogs!

Just had a lovely brunch with family. There is a good range of food on the menu - something for all tastes. Our food was lovely. The staff are all friendly. Think there could have been a few more staff to clean the tables an outdoor area.

This friendly and welcoming cafe/restaurant will not disappoint, all food is quality with friendly staff and quick service. Its location by the river and beach is great, you can stumble in off the quay for a coffee, smoothie or larger meal. Check it out!

Myself and my partner have recently moved to Sheldon and found the clipper, we tried their hot drinks at first which are lovely and perfect for a warm up after a walk, we then went back and had the captains breaksfast which honestly is and was amazing, we sat upstairs which overlooks the water and the edge of the cliff as well we honestly recommend this cafe as me and my partner were full and will be going back

Didn't stay so can't comment on the rooms The food was good and so was that service. Dog friendly place. It's not that cheapest but at least the food was good. Great location work a very big terrace area which will be great in nice weather We went for a Sunday breakfast but would return if in the area

Had a great lunch with my good friend, Tim... fantastic menu and choice... would definitely recommend the healthy smoothies and the steak baguettes!!! Delicious!!!

I was pleasantly surprised by the Clipper....on the first view its a basic Seaside cafe, but once inside it turns out to be an excellent restaurant with good food, excellent coffee and a fine range of wines and spirits Outside seating has a superb view of the River Teign and Teignmouth back beach so beloved of generations of artists and photographers There is also inside seating upstairs with similar views The staff were friendly, fast and professional and I will happily recommend the clipper to anuone visiting Shaldon

It was my first time eating there and I wasn't disappointed, the food was excellent along with all the staff. The Clipper Cafe is warm and welcoming as well as being set in a stunning location.

Popped in for tea/coffee and cakes, great friendly service, super choice of cakes that were very tasty. Sat on the balcony upstairs where the view was fantastic. Definitely go back again.

We had a half decent breakfast here on a cold September morning with a lovely view across the estuary. We wrapped up warm so we're able to eat outside, I had the big breakfast and it was ample. The food was pretty good but I think they really could do with getting better sausages and please render the fat off the, bacon, it makes all the difference. A weird herb in the mushrooms too. But it was warms, eggs cooked perfectly, lovely hash brown and great toast and coffee. The service was quick and friendly and it was a lovely location and atmosphere. Would I go back? Yes but would probably avoid the sausages until they changed supplier.

Lovely food and drinks with a great view. Service was polite and welcoming, food for all diets. We really like the breakfast served until 4pm. Loved the spitz cocktail menu. I would definitely return. The price is fair in today’s climate.

A late afternoon lunch in a lovely spot with beautiful views. Although the cafe seemed popular and busy throughout the day we managed to catch that afternoon sweet spot after the much rush but before evening dining. The downstairs is bright and clean and welcoming with an outside terrace serving ice cream, overlooking the harbour. Upstairs also had seating and an outside balcony with tables offering an elevated view of the estuary - beautiful at golden hour. The classic burger we ordered is a LARGE portion with a big juicy burger cooked perfectly accompanied by plenty of chips and salad. All the food was prepared fresh on order but didn't take long to arrive. The service throughout was friendly and welcoming and I would while heartedly recommend a visit to the Clipper Cafe..., if you can find your visit just right on a late-summer evening just as the light begins to turn (with a glass of their own Clipper Gin if you like?) then you won't be disappointed.

Lovely spot overlooking Shaldon beach. The weather was beautiful so we made the most of eating outside overlooking the beach. The food was delicious. Two vegan paninis is and two large bacon baps. All very tasty.

Stunning location located at the port of Shaldon. Ordered a captains breakfast (full English breakfast) which was brought over relatively quickly. Food is fresh and well prepared. Overall would recommend.

Cafe is great, busy at times but perfectly located on beach. Has indoor and outdoor seating.

Pricey, but you can always count on good food here. Beware of seagulls if you are seated outside. Coming from a local.

Nice location on the estuary. Inside and outside equally pleasant. Portions generous. Straight forward food, unlike some of the other establishments. Recommend. Just watch out for it gulls if you are outside.

We have visited the Clipper Cafe frequently during our holiday and every time the food has been superb in terms of quality and price but the main thing that stands out is the friendly, professional and really helpful team. On every occasion they have made our experience really special. The location of the Clipper Cafe is great with fantastic views over the estuary so it makes a great place to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner - in particular, the dinner menu is top restaurant quality. Well done to the whole team!

A very popular restaurant with amazing food and views! We were very fortunate to fall upon this restaurant. On entering it became very apparent how popular it is. There was lots of food to choose from and an array of non and alcoholic drinks. Staff worked together well to work through serving the long queue of customers without showing any signs of stress. We chose the seafood sharing platter which looked amazing and had lots to share and lots of variety. We decided to sit outside under a wooden gazebo which gave stunning views of the harbour and towards Teignmouth, although we were outside we still felt cosy due to how beautifully decorated the outside is. You can catch the little ferry from Teignmouth to this location. We definitely recommend the visit.

Popped in for early lunch yesterday. Clipper is always very popular but plenty of seating inside and out. Lovely staff, immaculately clean. Food excellent, wrap and Captains breakfast, both very well presented with good quality ingredients. Rather lovely sat watching Teignmouth and the estuary boats.. Perfect spot.

Lovely clean cafe with plenty of seat's indoors & outdoors with a fabulous view. My partner had breakfast with fried bread & loved it. I had a special pastrami toasties. Great service, great view & worthy of a visit. Cakes looked amazing

1 star is down to one member of staff when ordering. We’ve visited 3 times within a week & no improvement. It’s a real shame because the waiting staff are lovely and deserve the tips

They have a great selection of food for gluten-free. The food was really tasty and delicious. All the food is sourced locally, and the staff were so nice and friendly. We sat out on the balcony with lovely views over the estaury. We will definitely visit it again. There is parking throughout Shaldon, with a small walk to the cafe. The prices for food are very fair

When the sun is out, no better place to one. Only tried breakfast here & clearly it’s very busy when the weather is good

Had a lovely meal with friends. I am coeliac (gluten free), the lady who took my order was very knowledgeable about this and my meal was delicious.

Great place for a bite to eat and the views are amazing

All day breakfast was just what hubby wanted and he certainly got what he ordered. All items on plate quality and plentiful. I had the haddock and chips , lovely. Coffee was as it should be. Staff were excellent. Would definitely pop in again, especially as the cakes looked amazing😋

Great place to stop off for a drink and a bite to eat, especially if it's a sunny day. Good views of Teignmouth's back beach. Just watch out for the occasional seagull if sitting outside. Don't let that stop you visiting. Good food and coffee. Friendly staff.

Enjoyable eatery, with an excellent menu, and helpful , motivated waitresses. The Clipper proved to be a well managed cafe /restaurant, and a major draw for locals - which is always a good indication of a choice place to eat. It was a pity that the adverse weather made it impossible to eat outside and enjoy the everchanging view.

We enjoyed a lovely breakfast beautifully cooked using high quality ingredients. We would particularly like to thank Kelly and Alma for returning my dads glasses that were left on the table so promptly. Thank you.

Perfect spot to watch the Teign estuary with all its splendour on a blustery day. We were able to take shelter and ordered lunch. Our Granddaughter is vegetarian and was disappointed with the choices. But in the end was happy to settle for cheesy chips. Portions are big. Smoothies lovely. Would have welcomed more choice of sandwiches.

OK food but over priced - you're obviously paying for the view !

Had the Captain's breakfast, well worth the money. Considering it was mid week in March, the Clipper was very busy, we got the last table. Be aware if you want to sit upstairs to get the best view, then order downstairs before you come up, to save the walk. Service was not the quickest but probably due to being so busy. Still a great place to grab a bite in Shaldon

Did not stay here but gave the rooms a 5 stars as I'm sure they are as fab as the cafe. Great service and super tasty cakes. Dog friendly too which is a massive plus. Pity it was raining as we could not really enjoy the outdoor area with their superb views of the ocean. Must come back in summer.

Really friendly people and nice food just over looking the river with a nice view

Second time at this cafe for dinner. The food has been really tasty both times. The staff are also very friendly and the views over the Teign estuary are stunning. Now they were light up by February's Full Snow Moon.

We arrived at the Clipper Cafe mid morning and had one of the best cappuccino's we've had in a long time. The venue was busy, the service was good and the atmosphere nice, friendly & relaxing.

Loved this place, food and service was excellent. Little treat for the dogs too. It brighten up our day even with a wet day outside.

This place is clearly run by a greedy self-consumed money grabber. Absolute rip-off and embarrassment to the owner. Nearly £11 for a cream tea! Clearly pricing as high as they possibly can and trying to get away with it, until someone writes an honest review .. Shame on you! I bought a slice of cake today. Had to take out a second mortgage, but woman behind the till took great please in telling me that the slice was ‘much bigger’ than the usual pre-cut slice. She said ‘don’t expect that next time time you come in’. I kid you not! Jeez. Luckily for me there won’t be a next time. Luckily for them these ignorant tourists will keep paying these extortionate prices and filling these Jewish pockets.

Fabulous location, great service and plenty of choice. My salmon and scrambled eggs on soda bread was delicious and cooked to perfection. We all enjoyed our meals including my nephew who managed to eat every single drop of his pancakes, not even one blueberry was left.

We often eat at this very friendly cafe but recently we went after a short absence as my youngest daughter has developed food allergies. The staff and chef were so accommodating and helpful. I can’t explain how grateful we were.

While passing through Sheldon, we came across this cafe and decided to stop for breakfast, we decided to sit outside with a view of the sea and without a doubt it was the best choice. The breakfast was delicious and worth it. I recommend the visit.

We were literally staying next door in one of the beach huts, and decided to pop in for brunch on Remembrance Sunday after the local service. It was very busy - we must have grabbed the last table upstairs, but the staff were unflustered and smiled throughout. Service was quick, however, and the food spot on.

Has to be one of the spots in the area, absolutely amazing views, and if you eat outside the ambiance is even better!

Massive portions and lovely tasty food - loved the vegetable croquettes and the best gingerbread latte ive had.

This is a wonderful little cafe with food to rival the best food you can expect from local pubs. The staff are friendly and I would highly recommend a visit.

Staff were lovely - friendly and efficient. There was one vegan cake option (tiffin) which was very nice and we had the burrito and soup for lunch which were also very nice. Gorgeous views over the river.

Delightful café and justifiably busy on a wet Saturday lunchtime. Dogs are welcome and if their owners are coeliac then they can cater for them too. They have a separate fryer for gluten free and will substitute across their menu. They do gf bread and have a menu available via QR code where you can select allergens. Food was delicious, staff super friendly, patient and helpful. We had brunch - great variety including lots of vegetarian options. The atmosphere was lovely and areas have clearly been updated recently. Plenty of seating upstairs and down, right by the beach and a stone’s throw from the Teignmouth foot ferry.

Popped in for an early lunch because of the bad weather. What a wonderful find. A very organised cafe, lovely seaside decoration throughout. Excellent service, great food, friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyable.
