Mariners Fish and Chip in Torbay

Ordered for specific time of 9:20 pm and door turned up nearly hour early the opening hours werent present and the website allowed me to put the time I wanted my food Phoned to explain that no one was home yet and now food is going to be cold re doing kitchen so have nothing to re heat hence getting takeaway. Not even an apology just basically the guy on phone said it's not his problem. Porr service a simple sorry on the phone would have gone along way.

Tried this out with my partner, who is Coeliac, as we saw the restaurant has a great selection of Gluten Free options. We weren't disappointed, we shared a Haddock and Chips with Curry Sauce, and there was more than plenty for both of us. The GF batter is light and really well cooked. The price was very reasonable as well for the portion we received. We were only in Paignton for the weekend, but We'd definitely visit here again.

Mariner are simply the very best. Superb fresh cod in crisp batter that is delivered fast. We have been ordering for years and they never dissapoint. Thanks! Jeff

Just had one large COD and chips, it's the best in town.

They need to look at changing the oil more frequently, the fish and chips had a burnt after taste.

Price was very high for what you got but facilities were good. Would have been handy if they might have suggested one kids meal could have been split easily between two young children as at 6.50 per meal it was a lot of wasted uneaten food and a very high cost for a kids meal. Plenty of seating on site and the food was presented really nice as we ate in.

We arrived at paignton and we decided to have fish and chips so went to every single fish bar in all of paignton and we found mariners very understanding staff with my dad's mobility scooter and the service was brilliant and the food came and the food was delicious will go there again

Spotted a sign on the main street down a side road for Mariners. I had to park my mobility scooter outside and soon got a table for 3. I had 2 x Roe chips and mushy peas fritter, my wife had steamed fish and our som had s massive fish with chips. The staff were all polite and friendly. All the food was freshly cooked

Placed an order at 18:41 on the app for delivery, received email confirmation, then email to say food on its way at 19:41… we’re still waiting, called the shop, order not even been prepared… how can you send an email stating order on its way if the previous process hasn’t been completed… not the first time we’ve ordered from and never had a problem previously. When asked to speak with the manager, there wasn't one, just staff, requested a full refund and manager to call me, so we can discuss the app process.

Been here twice within a couple of days good price and large portion and good choice of meals don't take my word for it try it for yourself you wouldn't be disappointed.

Lovely fish and chips, I had pea fritter and chips with mushy peas and a pot of tea. Nice inside dining area. Very friendly staff.

This is a small restaurant attached to their take away counter and as such is not licensed. However the Fish and Chips were superb. We had gluten free battered haddock, chips and mushy peas, which could not be bettered. The fish portions were so large we were full for a day afterwards and the chips tasty and not greasy at all. Highly recommended. Fair price too

Always order gluten free fish & chips. Second time recently and both times not enjoyed as per usual. Last fish was really dry. Batter has changed and its horrible. Also made me & my partner have upset tummy. Use to think Mariners was best as we live nearby but unfortunately it has put us off for good. Never again. Do not recommend.

Absolutely amazing gluten free fish and chips. Helpful staff, wonderful lunch for everyone. Good value for money as GF meals are usually more expensive than other meals.

Recently visited for our tea being locals. Always order gluten free fish and chips. Chips great as usual..1st time ever..fish was really dry. Overcooked or left in warmer? Terrible...and has put us off! Your usually spot on so maybe new staff?

Had the sausage and chips the chip where dry asked for salt and vinegar don't think they put any on, chips looked and tasted like they been rewarmed up! Sausage was cheap meat last time it was very good and they was queuing out the door this time no-one was waiting tells you alot! The lady that served me was very slow !

Good service, our food came quickly and it was very fresh. Sadly, it came with skin on when we had asked before ordering if it did and was told no skin but maybe some small bones even though cares been taken to remove them. The little cafe was nice but unfortunately, for us, we didn’t enjoy the fish at all. Don’t like skin on fish and it was too oily. Great portion sizes though.

They have changed owners since we last visited they still say that they do gluten free but be careful the food isn't gluten free my wife who is coeliac had 6 chips and a bite of sausage and she found bits of batter in amongst the chips and with the sausage aswell, it made her ill they are still serving supposedly gluten free from the same fryer as gluten products they got a sausage out from where they keep the rest of the food wrapped it up and put a gluten free sticker on it. So if you're looking for a nice gluten free chippy my advice would be find somewhere else as these will make you ill.

Delicious as always one of our favourite chippys in the area.

Food was not marked which made it impossible to know what was Haddock what was Cod (nightmare for a gout sufferer!). The chips were cold, and tasteless with many shards instead of proper chips. Really really poor!

I’ve had to write this review as the food from Mariners is out of this world 👌🏼. Ordered a delivery for 4 people, it arrived 25 minutes early and the delivery driver was very polite. The food was freshly cooked and piping hot - I had the mixed kebab, chips and a tray of salad and it has to be the best I’ve ever eaten, the flavours where stunning, not greasy at all like your normal kebab meat - this is the proper stuff !! The salad was fresh, very crisp and very tasty indeed. I would 100% highly recommend Mariners, we’ll definitely be back next week - best chip shop in the country 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

Driver delivered wrong order but after phoning all sortd in 10 mins, food just as good as always

Never had a bad meal in there yet...the fish is beautiful...always white and fresh..service spot on..even do pensioners fish and chips..plenty to eat..

The portions for me and my wife were too big and these were small portions I ordered. The food was nice but just too much with nearly half a plate each thrown in the bin.

One the the meals was supposed to be a chicken curry and I was just chips wirh pieces of chicken stuck between and my fish & chips were cold and the other meal was very poor tasting. Just generally an awful order all over.

This was rubbish. Fish and chips cost more than a tenner which is wrong for a start The chips were awful and the fish was raw.

Lovely find tucked down a side street. Really delicious food and a lovely clean cafe attached to the fish shop where you get extras with your food such as a wedge of lemon and tartar sauce for a small increase in price. Will definitely be going back. Food delivery and an order and collect service available.

Food was delayed, but the restaurant was quick to respond and offer a discount. When it arrived, it was hot and tasty. Very happy overall.

We ordered fish and chips to be delivered to home.when it arrived the fish and chips were cold.The chips were all hard and the end scrapes of potatoes.we were really disappointed in the food.

Over priced and inedible. Cost £6.50 for cheesy chips and over half of them had to be thrown away as they were dry tasteless and overcooked. I had also asked for no salt and vinegar yet when I hot it home it was covered in salt. I had planned to buy a drink, but 500ml bottles of drink are £2.60 each. This is not my first visit, nor is it the first time I've had to throw my food away. Will not be using them again as it seems to get worse on each visit.

Best in Torbay. All beautifully cooked - light & crispy batter, the small portion of chips is plenty for 2 people. Excellent service with a smile. We’ll be back! ❤️

unfortunately the food was cold. even though it was early. which was fine

when calling up as a mix up with our order there wasn't a sorry and the caller was very blunt! we waited nearly a hour with no sign of replacement absolutely shocking service.

We have had take away fish and chips in the past, always lovely. Visited on the first night they opened from the xmas / new year holiday. Large "COD" (Cod ?) was thin and batter white and soggy. Not usually what we have had in the past.

What can we say! You’ve gone from a 10 to a 1! Fish dry, batter so thick and undercooked, peas no flavour! £30 wasted 🤬

Food was great and the delivery was amazing.

I wasn't aware that it was a collection only I assumed all on just eat are delivery my bad. The person in the restaurant could have been more polite he was quite shouty and unempathetic to my error.

Ordered food at 530pm for 7pm the food was 10 min late. Parts if the meal were barely warm. If I am honest it felt like it was left to one side to stay warm.

I had gluten free sausage in batter, chips & curry sauce. It was absolutely delicious, the best I have tasted. My partner had burger & chips and said his was really good and my Mum had savaloy & chips and said hers was the best she had eaten in a long time. The shop is always clean and the staff are friendly. I just wish we lived closer as we come from Southend-on-Sea
