Didn’t visit the restaurant but went to the amazing adventure playground which is just across. Great for the kids to explore and make dens and use their imaginations. There is a zip line and loads of balance beams and slides for the kids to explore. Parking is free

Didn't go for the restaurant but to the kids adventure playground that is in the grounds. You don't have to use the restaurant to be able to go in the playground. Plenty of free parking in the grounds and the playground is next to the car park but fenced off so nice and safe. Lots of climbing walls and rope climbs and a chance to build dens in and around the playground. The local schools use this place to bring the children for days out so well set up for the kids

Just been on a residential educational stay at Cliffe House with a group of primary children (4th in 4 years). The menu for our stay over the tow nights has not changed for years. Pizza and potato wedges (actually potatoes cut into 1/4's lengthways) on the first night and roast chicken breasts on the second night. The chicken had that dry fibre board consistency that expands in your mouth as you chew. Breakfast has always been an interesting meal... The cook has come up with a brilliant idea for this, 'a full breakfast over two days' Hash browns and beans on Monday, scrambled egg and bacon on Tuesday. Who on earth ever eats hash browns and beans as a breakfast? The scrambled egg on Tuesday had been so 'well cooked' it was like a box of yellow and white Lego bricks. Packed lunch was sandwiches and cheese tarts.. Come on guys at least cut the sandwiches in half, we are not builders!! In Tuesday the cheese tarts were a little burnt. Overall a great place for an educational stay but the Cooks desperately need flair, creativity and some basic training in food preparation.

I visited here with my 18 month old son and mother in law to try out the new(ish) restaurant. On arrival it felt quite nostalgic as i have not been since a school trip in 1999. It was as I remembered it, a lovely outside area, although some of it is restricted to just schools etc. The play area was for 5-13 year olds its great, its huge, free and there is even a den building area!! Wish i could have re-wound to my youth for one day! My son was too small to play in that area but he still loved running around, it was raining heavily so it was empty, he shouted at the top of his voice, ran as fast as he could and got completely fithy, he was in his element! Anyway, we stipped him and cleaned him up fine! Lunch was spot on, too many people slate Kirklees council but they have hit the nail on the head with this place. The staff are LOVELY, even the chef came out and gave my son a ginger bread man, she was so polite, the receptionist/ waitress was so polite too and even served us at the table because it was quiet. It was fantastic value for money, i got a pot of tea (got 3 cups from it!!!) Pea and letticue soup (best ive ever had) a tuna baguette, warm scone, cream and jam for less than £9!!! Where else can you get 3 good courses from for that price? I will definately be coming back, will bring both sides of the family and reccommend it to my friends with children! I dont know why more people dont know about it? It would even be great for wedding venues as guests could stay there for £35 a night! Fab and thanks for an enjoyable day.

Visited on a very busy Sunday. They don’t take cards but you can do a bank transfer which is great as my hair cut and shave cost more than I expected. Got the bigger breakfast and a latte. A little bit of a wait for the food but it’s understandable due to how busy they was. Food was good. Exactly as it should be and by the time I had finished, I was ready to fall into a food coma. Would happily go back.

We arrived without a booking and after a couple of minutes we were shown to our table and handed menus. Unfortunately after that, we were left around 15-20 minutes and nobody came to take our order. Eventually we got drinks thank goodness but then the food must have been another half an hour before it arrived. My husband and I ordered turkish eggs and it was nice but all 4 eggs (my husband's and mind) were all over cooked. I wouldnt go if you are in a rush to be honest, it took almost an hour and a half from start to finish.

Thought we would try this place out not impressed with the overall experience of food the Sunday dinners beef not great nor the service waiter/staff took telling over 3 times for desserts had to wait over 30 mins for just brownies in the end just had to say cancel it too much time for something that take a couple of minutes to do the next day most of the family had upset stomachs wouldn’t recommend this place unless the service of communication to the cook and food standard is more on point than mediocre presentation we were compensated some money off the desserts but even the brownies are nothing different that shop bought similarities and tight portions to say the least the differences between kids to adults sizes not by much. To say the least and the only major positive was the decor of the overall place well set out looks inviting at least.
