Burnt fish and chips. Very badly presented. Steak very fatty and raw, also very badly presented. Such a pity this used to be a fantastic venue, and I have had some very enjoyable meals here. We will not be going back

I went to the butchers arms free night of hepworth feast, I know that they were busy they had menus on the tables offering chips and snacks, I ordered there homemade pork scratching with apples sauce only to be told they had run out and gave me 3 packs instead and charged me £6 for it!! Not what I’d expect if they had run out!!

Nice little pub in a village setting, pet friendly, with seating inside and outside. We sat out the back in a decked yard, and it was very nice. They have a few local ales, plus all the regular drinks you might expect. Friendly staff. We only went for drinks.

What a disappointment supposed to be a treat for Mothers Day. Booked a table for 4 for Sunday Lunch. The food bill cost £120. My choice was belly pork which was tough, roast potatoes rock hard and the green vegetables practically raw. Two people chose beetroot risotto which they described as tasteless. The other choice was steak pie and described as OK. No dessert was available for someone who is lactose intolerant. A pint of beer was returned due to a bad taste. The apple crumble was very nice. All in all not a good experience.

Absolutely beautiful looking pub, classic village look. That's where the good part ends! Arrived at 7.25pm as pub was recommended for food in a folder at our air b & b. We were told food wasn't being served as they had a large party in and that service finished at 7.30pm anyway and didn't accept walk ins!.... There was the party of 4, a couple round the corner and 2 other people in the entire place. The "large party" was 4 people and they left a few minutes after we arrived. Found it more expensive for drinks than pubs we visited on other days. Can honestly say we wouldn't go back. The customer service was dire, incredibly rude and hospitality non existent. The staff might want to consider visiting the Boshaw Trout for some lessons!

Nice pub, lovely location, good service. Don't have the belly pork if you are at all hungry. One piece 10cm piece of pork, a pipeing of mash, two stalks of broccoli, one green bean, tablespoon of gravey, two teaspoons of apple suce £20. Tasted good, However reminded me of the dark days of novell cuisine.

Rotten decking in the beer garden which I stood on and my foot went through up to my knee and my leg became stuck. I managed to wrench my leg out and was badly injured. I went to tell the staff and they thanked me and said they would put up a sign. No apology or enquiry as to whether I needed any first aid. This was after they had brought us the wrong order and starters came at the same time as the main meal. The food was good but we did not return for the rest of the holiday. On talking to locals apparently the establishment is only visited by tourists with good reason.

It's a reasonably atmospheric old pub with a decent range of drinks. The food usually falls short of what we'd expect for the price and the billing of a top gastropub. An alleged steak and kidney pie was a pot of casserole with the least puffy puff pastry lid I've ever encountered. A pie it was not. Superficially tasty with a strong hit of beef and kidney but no real depth of flavour. 'buttery' mash did not taste of butter. A tiny portion of green beans completed the dish. Very disappointing. A chicken, mushroom and leek pie was just a creamy mush with the same poor pastry and accompaniments as above.

Went Wednesday lunchtime to meet up with another couple. Mostly OK apart from the dire food. Pork belly ordered by 2 of us. Crackling uneatable and pork belly really tough and chewy. Watery sauce to go with it to pour over cold black pudding mash and no vegetables or greens. £19 - ripped off. My fish and chips was a scabby piece of fish with an excess amount of overcooked batter and some lukewarm mushy peas. 4th meal was chicken pie which was judged OK but not very warm. We didn't complain. Should have really but guess we'll vote with our feet. We were mostly the only ones in there and if you weren't sat near the open fires it was cold. Arranged to meet our friends here after seeing excellent reviews but not for us

From the outside it’s the archetypal country pub nestled in the bosom of Hepworth village on the outskirts of Holmfirth. Inside its exactly want you’d want - dimly lit, a warming fire, and traditional locally themed decor. There didn’t look to be too much room for a quite pint but it was a Sunday Lunchtime. The menu had plenty of options but being Sunday we went for beef and Yorkshire pudding which came with carrots, broccoli and roast potatoes. Topped this up with a side order of cauliflower cheese which though nice lacked the cheesiness you’d want. The beef was ultimately the star of the show as you’d hope - pink, juicy, with lashings of wholesome gravy. The price came in at around £20 PP which isn’t cheap but this is quality food, well prepared and the service was excellent. When The Great Plague struck England in 1665 Hepworth was the most northerly point that it reached. To save the village residents split it into two parts with those infected left isolated from the world in one half. Let’s hope the pub was on the side of the well and able because, as travel writer John Hillaby once said : “Few things are more pleasant than a village graced with a good church, a good priest and a good pub.” I can’t comment on the church, didn’t see the priest, but this is for sure a good pub.

Situated in a idelic village location this pub looks very welcoming. Friendly staff and two nice beer gardens gives of a calm vibe. The only reason for the lack the star was the food. I ordered a roast beef sandwhich with chips. The chips was gorgeous but the sandwhich wasn't. Bread wasn't buttered and was that hard baguette stuff. Probably a personal preference more than anything.

So nice to have the pub owned by a local and not a brewery once again. Even better that this is somebody who wants to make a long term project of the place. Exciting ideas, (like being able to eat upstairs) are being combined with an appreciation of existing character and qualities. Nice to see a log fire and some subdued lighting have made a return. Loved the gentle relaxing music and a cup of decent coffee. If like me you have not been in some time, maybe now is a good time to give it a go.

This is a brilliant little pub in the heart of the quaint village of Hepworth. That has a superb array of food and drink available and a warm and cosy atmosphere. Though the pinnacle of what is on offer at the Butchers Arms has to be its Thai Taster Menu. If you love Thai food, as I do, the Thai taster is not to be missed. It's a veritable cornucopia of authentic Thai food and flavours. Transporting you from the spicy seafood cuisine of Thailand's South coasts, to it's aromatic curries of the North. At £30 a head it is an absolute steal, if this was in London you would be paying closer to £80 and whispers of a michelin good food star would be in the air. I beg all Thai lovers that are in the area to take the time to venture to the Butchers Arms to feast on its Delectable Asian Delights.
