The Churchill Tree in Cheshire East

Had booked online & asked for table in dog-free area. When we arrived we weren’t asked for our name to check our booking anyway! We were shown to a table in Tenants Hall ? Fortunately it was fairly quiet & no dogs in at that time. Menu given to us was completely different to the one online. No seniors menu offered to us ( despite us actually being seniors ! ) so why ask for your date of birth on booking form ? We ordered some drinks - one beer & a glass of wine which were fine. Not particularly cheap but usually about what we normally pay for drinks. I had fish & chips - not asked whether I wanted large or small ? When it came ,I thought they had given me the small portion (but I was mistaken when we came to pay the bill ). The chips were very greasy & tasteless. Fish was passable but certainly not large . ! My husband had pork loin chop which was good but nothing exceptional .It came with french fries which were hard & greasy. On the whole, both meals were pretty average & very overpriced. Not once were we asked if everything had been ok ? After 2 coffees, which were reasonably good , albeit a bit strong , we paid the bill & left. Don’t think we shall be returning in the future .

Came for dinner and was amazing!! Incredible service from Josh and Molly who made sure we were well looked after and the food was superb. Will definitely be coming back soon!

What a little gold mine Great ambiance made the dining experience even better.In the dining area there was plenty of features to see. Food was excellent, great menu choice, we could not fault the service very prompt and attentive. We were introduce to the new manager who showed us to our table and also introduced to the waitress looking after us. Highly recommend a visit definitely be back.

Visited a few times and always had a lovely time… this was very disappointing to the point I actually would not come back again! Was grumbled at because we hadn’t made a booking (never an issue before!) food was luke warm and the staff very stroppy when I brought it to their attention! Spoke to the manager and honestly wish I hadn’t bothered! Rude, like talking to a brick wall and glued to his phone! Such a shame as this was a really lovely place but will not be back… seeing other reviews it looks like it’s under new management looks like that needs a review!!!

Really gone right down hill and we won’t be coming back. The manager is rude and doesn’t appear to care. They are understaffed and the ones they do have also don’t seem to care. Food is over priced for what it is and the service is appalling. Needs a brand new management structure in place and staff training.

Fourth visit for family lunch and something for everyone on the menu. We started off in the bar area for an aperitif, gorgeous surroundings, very chic. We booked a table in the conservatory for lunch, a beautifully light and airy space. As usual, the service was exceptional, and the choice of food is great. 2 of the group plumped for the Seniors special menu 2 courses and a glass of wine. Just the right portion size for the ladies. With great choice and impeccable service we will be booking again soon.

Always have an amazing time whenever we visit! All of the staff work so hard and nothing is ever too much trouble. Made to feel super welcome even when it's very busy and they're clearly short on staff but they continue to go the extra mile. Great selection of beers, ales, wines etc - not tried the food yet but looks great and always hear rave reviews from my friends about the Sunday roasts Keep up the good work guys!

We waited 15 mins for a drink and an hour for food. When it finally arrived it was very mediocre and just warm as if it had been waiting around. Too few staff for a Saturday! We live locally and are regulars but won't be going back for a meal.

A meal with a group of friends was spoiled by a terrible greasy smell from the kitchens and the very slow service. They really need to get a better extraction system in to help reduce the bad stale cooking fat ,or oil ,smell . My clothes smelt of the stale fat and I will be washing the dress and my hair again later !! As for the slow service they need to employ more staff., otherwise they will be losing a lot of customers

First visit here. A lovely restaurant. Good value restaurant. Food good. Spoilt by very slow service. Main course took ages to appear and then 4/5 meals were delivered well before the fifth. Desert also very slow and coffee was delivered well before the deserts.

We visited on sunday for lunch with the family and we were welcomed as soon as we walked in and seated in the main bar which is a stunning room. The log fire was roaring and the place was bustling despite only being midday. There was such a great atmosphere. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly throughout our visit. We all had the roast beef and it was perfect, proper portion size with every element cooked well. The kids loved the giant yorkshire puddings! We will definitely be back.

Went for a quiet drink in the lovely historic building by the cosy log fire. But it wasn’t pleasant at all as everyone seems to have brought their dogs and they were sprawled out everywhere and often barking at each other. The owners thought it was funny and the staff were indifferent. Felt more like a vets waiting room than a relaxing pub. It just didn’t feel safe as some of the dogs were pretty big and wouldn’t be amiss as guard dogs. There are more relaxing places to go so won’t be back.

Went by chance, the whole place smelt of chips, not the enticing smell of a chip shop but a greasy horrible fat smell, just couldn’t stay!

Fantastic to discover this place after a friend recommended. The buildings ooze character and charm. The place is absolutely immaculate and the staff are very friendly. Service could not have been better. We both opted for the two course dinner. I had prawn cocktail and then Chicken in a wine sauce. It was absolutely delicious and well presented. They do a seniors lunch 2 course for £13.50 offering great value for money. We had a lovely time and are planning the next visit here soon!

We visited this place for my mother's birthday and everything was exceptional, service, staff and quality of the food. However any restaurant cgain that commands an average price of £20/main course and does not think when menu planning that vegetables form part of a meal (£5 extra) will not be getting revisited. Other than this it would have a great place to return to.

Had a lovely lunch meal at the Churchill Tree, a few weeks ago. Friendly staff and tasty food, served quickly and they came back to check if our food was ok. We were so pleased, we plan to take our Yorkshire visitors there next week, for lunch.

Heard good reports from friends so decided to book a table for a Thursday evening @6.30pm. We had a very warm welcome from a member of staff and were seated in the main room where the bar is. We loved the old building, lots of gorgeous twinkly lights and it has a very stylish decor. There was a lovely ambience and although it was quite busy, it became quieter when a party went through to another dining area. The staff were most attentive and the food was delicious. Would highly recommend the smoked salmon pate to start and the chicken kebab with Indian flavoured rice, vegetables (peppers,courgettes,onions) and flatbread with dips (yoghurt, tomato). The portions were a good size. We shared a bottle of wine and the cappuccino that followed was perfect - hot, lovely and frothy. We will definitely be back…soon!

We booked a table for lunch as our last visit was so good. This time was a very different experience. Whilst the area was very cold and there was a cold draught coming from the reception area we were sat next to a radiator and hoped as time went on and it filled up that it would get warmer. We asked for the set menu and ordered a glass of Prosecco only to be told that was no longer available and it was a choice of red, white or rose wine. ( it does say on the web site it’s Prosecco) . However this was not a problem . We then ordered the starters and main courses. After an hour the starters had not arrived! We enquired of the waiter and he went to chase it up. He did then bring the starters which were delicious. We ordered another couple of wines as now had empty glasses. Then awaited the next course . An hour went by and no signs. The table next to us had experienced a similar delay and were very annoyed so duly left . They also had to earlier don their coats as so cold. We asked about our main courses and the waiter went off to hopefully bring them . Still no signs so we too decided to leave. On the way out we saw the waiter and told him of our decision . He was very understanding and was obviously under pressure from customers. So we left and like the previous couple did not make payment. The experience was not good and we had never ever walked out of a restaurant before. They obviously must have problems with the food service but why not advise customers that there would be a delay. Why not offer a free drink/coffee etc whilst people waited. There was no signs of anyone taking charge and responsibility for the situation. Certainly not a very professional outcome. Such a shame …. . .

Our lunch was an embarrassing disaster. We waited for an hour before our drinks arrived, we were in a draft from the door (our complaint to staff was simply shrugged off with "we have told the landlord (Bruntwood , Alderley Park) that the door is faulty". We were freezing! When our starters eventually arrived one of the three selections was incorrect. After another half hour and several attempts at getting the main course, we made a final complaint, refused to pay and walked out - disgusted. It was such a shame that time with special friends was spoiled by under staffing, incompetence and indifference made worse by absence of apology until we were walking out.

Beautiful venue, but that’s where the positives end. Overpriced, small portions, slow service… Sunday roast was a massive cold Yorkshire pudding, creating the illusion of a good meal, but its really not. It comes with a bit of tasty veg and potatoes, but it really is only a very small amount. The meat was a small slice of raw chewy beef with white sinew running through it, cold turkey and fatty pork. Upon receiving we asked for hot Yorkshire pudding and the full plate came back all warmed up. Starters are ridiculously priced and the portion size is embarrassing. My partner asked for another glass of wine when the food came out. Had to ask two more times before it was finally brought out, around 45 mins later. Very disappointing for such a good venue and high end prices. I expect much more, and was hungry again once I got home. Won’t be coming back.

Very accommodating staff even during a busy period. Offered a high chair for the baby and spacious table. Nice selection of draught beers and an option of a 0% beer. Had a selection of starters to share for lunch, three starters and a side of chips was enough for the two of us. Topped off with the coconut and chocolate tort which was a sweet treat. Only reason for one less that full marks was the portions are small in relation to the cost. Also the calamari dip was majority mustard which was an overpowering shame. However, atmosphere and service was 5*! Also a nice short gravel walk opposite the venue if you want to start h your legs after.
