There were lots of fish options on the menu, which is what we like to see in a seaside restaurant . I had brill as you don’t see it on menus very often, and it’s a delicious flat fish similar to turbot. It was cooked beautifully, with a flavoursome sauce and vegetables, including samphire which I love! Finished off with warm chocolate fudge cake and a generous serving of double cream, and an excellent coffee, all served by a very helpful waitress. perfect!

The menu for vegans and vegetarians needs to be made clearer, as both have different requirements and it is not clear from the menu. Disappointed with the roasts on Sunday. The cauliflower cheese was very overcooked and the roast potatoes were difficult to cut into due to the skins being tough.

This evening we went to this little gem of a place in Exmouth. Absolutely everything about it was wonderful. The staff were charming and friendly and the menu was extensive with multiple fish options amongst many other choices including a number of exquisite vegetarian dishes. This menu has been put together with a great deal of skill and thought. The food did not disappoint. I can honestly say it was a taste sensation. I chose the dover sole with a creamy, crab and white wine sauce and my husband chose pork belly. Both were delicious. To finish it off the restaurant is beautifully decorated, allows space for privacy and is really comfortable. We will be back soon.

This place is always a good choice, but not last night. The service was awful. The restaurant was not overly busy, but we sat for 20 minutes before anyone approached us. We ordered drinks, and then another wait to order food. Later on, I ordered a drink, which never arrived. Admittedly, the head waitress was very apologetic and gave me a free drink. The food was excellent, when it eventually arrived, but sadly, not the service!

First time here and it was great. Food was lovely, the server was new and a bit nervous when we went but she handled it well. My starter was so big I could have shared it 😂 luckily I still managed all the main course.

Have been a few times for Sunday lunch. Excellent in every way. A super selection of beautifully cooked vegetables and the meats we all chose were really tasty, the beef being cooked to perfection. We also had a dessert each.. 3 trios which we loved and one sticky toffee which was so moist but light textured. Well done as consistently good. Great service too!! Thank you.

Just had an absolutely gorgeous dinner at The Chronicle. We had always heard good things but never got round to booking a table. They were very accommodating, taking a last minute booking and squeezing us in this evening. The food was incredible, really as good as it gets. Duck was tender, very well cooked and served with a beautiful sauce. Service was just right, prompt but not at all pushy. We will definitely come back again, and are kicking ourselves for not coming in sooner! The Chronicle is an outstanding example of fine dining in Exmouth. Thank you for a fantastic meal!

wow what a fabulous meal. Had 3 courses cooked to perfection. I am very fussy and asked for my duck to be cooked well done which I know is a big 'no' for chefs and they cooked it perfectly. It seems that my husband and I are in the minority having read some of the recent reviews. Maybe it's an age thing,we we're overwhelmed by the noise in The Chronicle . It is yet another restaurant with acoustic problems, although the ceiling could be sound absorbing, it looks possible. There are no soft furnishings to prevent sound bouncing around. The noise was mainly customers trying to make themselves heard. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the food tasty . The prices are on the high side given that our table was laid wrongly, one for a left handed person and both places had the side plate on the wrong side. Small things, I know and you may well think I'm nit picking, but that's OK in a cheap café but not in a restaurant with reasonably high price. If these things don't bother you, then you'll have a nice tasty meal with generous portions and friendly helpful staff.

A quirky place finished in art deco styling. The Sunday lunch and dinner we took on separate days were very good, tasty, and well presented. Lots of different vegetables. A pig in a blanket, a good Yorkshire pudding, and stuffing for the luncheon. Plenty of sides included with our dinner also. The 2 person tables are unfortunately very small. Wines are expensive, and the service streched a little, but it is helpful and polite.

I can't recommend the Sunday roast at The Chronicle highly enough if you are in Exmouth over a weekend. The meat was tender and well flavoured. The roast potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, the Yorkshire pudding was cooked perfectly and the vegetables had enough crunch while still being cooked though. Not only that, we also got an extra jug of gravy. The vegetarian option was said to be excellent as well. Can't remember when I had a roast dinner this good

It feels a bit odd to be writing this, but last night me and my partner had a very disappointing meal for what was a special occasion. The chronicle has been our date spot for a while now and has never let us down...until now. Although it's expensive we've always deemed the food worth paying for, but last night couldn't have been more different. The service was great as always, but the food was bland, the portions small and the chips tasted like they had been just bought from a chip shop. It felt as if they've had a change of chef or were using cheaper ingredients. For £40 a head we've come to expect a lot more.

We ate here on Saturday 8th and were not disappointed. Service was polite and efficient. The old adage "You get what you pay for" is very true. Both mushroom starters were excellent. The fillet steak was delicious and cooked to perfection. The chips were crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy inside as they should be. A minor negative was they tasted a little earthy but that could be down to the potato used. The trio of deserts were excellent too. 2 pints of Madri, a large wine and a mineral water brought the bill to over £140. Hence it would be for special occasions rather than a regular night out.

Having discovered this restaurant last year whilst on holiday (and recommended it to local friends who have returned several times) we have just enjoyed another delicious meal. Highly recommended - you do need to book! Even on a June Wednesday evening it was full… As well as their regular menu, there was a good range of ‘specials’ (local wild mushrooms in sauce were a very good choice) which included several interesting (locally caught) fish dishes. Vegetarians and vegans have an unusually wide range of dishes to choose from. And the ‘wines by the glass’ included a wide range - also 0% drinks. Altogether a great success.

Nice meal for four of us whilst on a visit to our in-laws. Staff are friendly welcoming and very attentive. I needed to ask for some adaptations to my meal and that was no problem at all. The catch of the day was halibut and it was absolutely the nicest fish I have ever eaten in a restaurant. Beautifully cooked on a bed of fresh perfectly cooked mixed green vegetables and baby potatoes. Absolutely yummy. The only thing is there is a very long wait at busy times as food is freshly cooked. I completely understand and welcome this but at peak times I wonder if a little more help in the kitchen would be of benefit. Thank you all

Cannot fault the food, pricey ££ but worth it and Eloise is always lovely....our 2nd visit in just two months. However....we went out to celebrate our son's 6th birthday at 6pm & were told we had to be out for 8pm due to other bookings. We gave the restaurant his birthday cake - excited that he might get one this year (last years restaurant wanted to charge me £5 per head x8 people to serve it....err no thanks!) At 7.53pm we had only eaten two courses, so I asked for the cake back & said we have ran out of time so we will have to leave without having his cake. At no point did they offer dessert or say any different, so we left my parents to wait for their taxi. Unbeknown to them my mum is terminally ill & we are trying to have as many memorable/happy times as possible, and cake is the best bit of a birthday meal for kids. I was left with a bitter taste in my mouth shall we say.....oh and a £300+ bill 🙃
