We only had chips so can not comment on any else but they wee soggy and the oil definitely needs changing as the chips were covered in black bits! Won't be going back!

The worst fish n chip shop wasted 16.00 pound that was for over cooked chips and the battered sausages was crispy as hell...batter fell off while bitting...floors there slippery in the back..nearly fell over!!!!!!

I don’t like to leave negative reviews for small businesses but I can see on google and trip advisor that this chippy has lots of negative reviews and clearly from my experience today continues to churn out awful food. I’m reluctant in wasting food but the chips were over cooked, clearly smelt and tasted like they’d been sloshed around in old fat and inedible. We threw them away and headed somewhere else to eat.

It was awful chips were stale and overcooked. The battered sausages were tasteless. Service was awful more staff needed and so expensive for what it is. Out of 4 adults and 3 kids no one enjoyed it.

Great fish and chips! Particularly the kids ones- cod goujons and chips. Tasty and fresh! Obviously the standard has gone up, as I would say that they are up there with the best in Town.

I’m from Eastbourne and feel disappointed knowing tourists come to the seaside and expect excellent fish and chips. Well you won’t get it from here. We have tried this a few times and dissatisfied every time I won’t use it again. There is a restaurant at the end of the beach near Holywell where staff from the chippy should go to learn how to cook properly they cook excellent food.

I asked for a senior citizen fish and chips which should have been £8.50. Just checked my account and been charged £12 and the cod was small.

Got fish and chips from this shop today.. whilst the shop was clean and staff friendly, I have reservations on if they can actually fry food! The chips in the bag were a variety of undercooked rock hard raw or overcooked mush.. The cod was cooked but the batter resembled a limp pancake… and was sticky and not cooked crispy .. Disappointed.. we would have returned it but it was pouring with rain !

I had the vegan battered sausage and chips and it was really nice. Friendly staff also. Will be returning.

The worst chips we’ve ever tasted. I recently tried the fish and chips from this takeaway, and let's just say, the chips seemed to have taken a vacation in oil that's older than my childhood VHS collection. I didn't know whether to eat them or use them as coasters - they were that dark brown. The taste? Imagine biting into regret with a side of rancid nostalgia. If you're into vintage oil flavors, this place might be your jam, but my taste buds are still recovering from the time travel. In summary, they were disgusting. So sad that business owners can have this level of contempt for its customer. Avoid.

I wish to goodness I'd read the reviews first. Just about the worst fish&chips ever, at an astronomical price. So very disappointed. The fish was minuscule (and usually I struggle to get through a standard size piece of fish) and I'm not even sure the chips were cooked today!

Disgusting worst sausage and chips I've ever had chips where all the old bits in the bottom of the fryer sausage taste like medicine if you don't believe me try it yourself 50 pound for two adults and two children absolutely criminal should not be allowed to operate

Avoid!!!!! Went with my family today. Couldn’t believe how slow they were. We waited 40mins after paying for our food. Young girl just seemed to be filling up the ketchup instead of trying to help. Food was well below average. Couldn’t even eat the fish cake it was that bad. Portions were small as well. Very unclean, floor was greasy so making it slippery. Won’t be returning

Terrible. Waited 45 mins in total from entering store to leaving for one portion of chips. The oil they use is old. Chips tasted disgusting and were cold. Absolutely shocking. The portion size in the photo is a large apparently. We definitely will never be returning. Such a shame too as we came a couple of years ago and we highly rated it.

Such a shame this place has gone down hill. I politely said at the time we were served, that things have gone down hill. The portion for a large size chips was shockingly small, smaller than a general small size bag of chips. We came here every year with family. I will no longer bring our custom here.

I am a local and have always recommended the chippy on the pier because it used to be so good. Hadn't been there for around 3 years or so because of lockdown. It appears to have new staff and management and unfortunately has gone downhill rapidly. I went on a Thursday with my wife and two grand children and ordered 2 large battered sausages and chips, a battered sausage and chips for my grandson and chicken nuggets and chips for my granddaughter. The guy serving and cooking was on his own, in his 20s and said he had just finished a night shift elsewhere. His clothes were filthy. As we were waiting for our food, I asked for a glass of tap water. He said sorry mate, but the water here is undrinkable. I would serve you if I could but I'm not allowed! I found this quite absurd as there is a pub/restaurant on the end of the pier that has no problem serving tap water! I quiered this with him but he couldn't answer. When the food finally arrived after half an hour wait, it was disgusting. The batter was brown with bits in it and the kids chips were inedible. I would say the oil Hadn't been changed for ages. We left most of the food on the table and left. If Mr Gulzar still owns this place, he should get new experienced staff to run it and get it re decorated as it's looking very tired. I won't be returning any time soon.

Fish n chips luke warm. Fish with skin left on was soggy and not edible. Don’t sell tea and coffee. Avoid.

The service was extremely slow the guy cooking spent more time on his phone. When we eventually got our order the chips weren’t very nice. I live in Eastbourne and I won’t use this again.

Waited 25 minutes for one portion of chips. Food hygiene is not their strong point. As you wait for your food to be cooked you can watch staff eating with their fingers, sneeze in their hands, wipe their face and then handle food all without washing their hands. Asked for a refund and left. Please don’t bother, such a shame as great location

We went during Easter. They has 3 staff on duty and they kept worrying that they were running out of fish. A young lad left to get more leaving 2 staff with a massive backlog of customers. Food took ~1hr. yes that's right 1hr. One bloke was friendly to customers but cleaned his hands by rubbing his apron. The place looks grimy and needs a tidy up. Food tasted good. However the cost was ~£50 for fish and chips for 4 people. If you had proper service and prices were lower this is a great location. The most expensive and slow fish and chips I've had.

I quite liked my bag of chips. There were 5 others with me and none of them disliked the food they had. But it is pretty basic - this will never win any “chippy prizes”! Service was rather slow - we waited 15 minutes for our order. 6 orders was about £70 which I thought was quite expensive.

Absolutely awful. Everything was dark brown in colour, obviously cooked in dirty old oil. The chips we got were the old crispy bits, not a bit of potato in any of them. The fish was soggy and tasted of nothing. The sausage again the darkest brown rotten old thing. £2 a can of drink and 50p a sachet of sauce. £43 to feed 3 of us! Used to be lovely food but really gone down hill since being taken over. Won’t be returning

Terrible service , extremely slow there were three people in front of us and one of them was a portion of chips and we waited for about 25 minutes , I ordered two portions of battered sausages and chips , one cheesey chips and a cod and chips , tried to fob me off with regular sausages and chips and was told he could batter them if I didn’t mind waiting for another ten minutes , so he battered them and re cooked already cooked sausages , the cheesey chips were so greasy and undercooked , fish was 90 percent batter and so much oil , honestly the worst chippy I have ever been to , the owner should be ashamed of himself , oh one plus side the pickled eggs were fine but because they came from a jar

Best pies in Eastbourne and the vegan “fish” is amazing.We had a pie from here last week and was the best pie we have had from a chippy in Eastbourne!! Not your big standard “pukka” pie. I’ve also heard from a vegan friend that their banana blossom vegan “fish” is amazing. This is the one chip shop in Eastbourne that they feel they can get a decent vegan meal from!They get a lot of tourist trade in the summer but would be great for the local community to get behind them instead of the “chain” chippy just a bit further down the seafront.

Simply the worst savloy and chips I have had. The savloy looked as though it had been sitting there for ages and the chips (well I think they were chips) were soggy and luke warm even though we waited 15 minutes for them after placing the order. There were no more than a handful of chips mixed in will a load of crunchy bits that looked as though they had been dredged from the bottom of an oily fryer. £6 is a pure rip off.

Vegan friendly chippy with huge variety of nice freshly cooked food. They even sell vegan items and have SEPARATE FRYERS ensuring no cross contamination. Vegan food in one, Chips in another, even the fish and the meat have their own fryers.

We ordered 2 large portions of chips, which were fairly expensive, we didn't have to wait too long, but when we started eating I realised what I thought was a few crispy chips actually turned out to be batter when I bit into a piece and found a small piece of meat, being a vegetarian this is not acceptable, and put me off eating anymore of the chips. We remember Chippy on the Pier from years ago as being the best fish and chip shop in Eastbourne. Sadly, though, our experience yesterday was that it is now the worst fish and chip shop in Eastbourne. Both the fish and chips were literally swimming in grease and even the seagulls thought twice about tucking in. A couple of teaspoons of fish in overcooked batter. The shop appears to be under new management and that may be the explanation.

Loved: off menu option of bbq pulled jackfruit and chips. Spicy tasty jackfruit topping. Chips crispy and fluffy. Staff very pleasant. Didn't love: the premises look and feel grubby, and the person working on the fryer wearing filthy clothes

Great variety, kids loved the saveloy and cheesy chips. We had scampi, cod and tried the new chicken wings. Perfect treat, warm and friendly staff , under new management. All the food was cooked fresh to order and didn’t wait too long.

Delicious chips. Hot, crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. The fish was perfectly cooked and tasted wonderful. Great batter too. Really liked the wedge of lemon and sprinkle of parsley. Plenty of salt and vinegar which is as must when I have fish and chips. The service was fast and friendly too. Perfect!

had takeaway fish and chips - 10 out of 10 for the chips, 8 for the fish, just slightly undercooked for my taste possibly perfect for most people, batter thin and crisp. New owners doing excellent job especially since they have only just opened.

100% reliant on location on the pier rather than offering quality. Frozen, undercooked, greasy chips, served without a smile! Looking at the fish on display there looked like there was more life in one of their deep fried fish fingers.. disappointing, avoid..

Have read some other reviews that say that place is not so good, on the day my wife and myself ate lunch here we could no fault the fish and chips. Reasonable prices Cod and Chips plus Can of coke £7.50 Haddock and Chips plus a can of sprite £7.50 both served on takeaway poly tray with plastic knife and fork. Food was hot and tasty. We enjoyed our meals. There are other fish and chips shops nearby. Ramsden’s is expensive.

This has a nice location on the pier. Staff were standard, food took a while to be cooked. It was a winter’s day, so nice to be able to sit inside in the warmth. Fish and chips were nothing special, but nice enough.

If you can’t even be bothered to peel and cut your own chips then don’t own a chip shop. Especially on a well known Eastbourne landmark. We will be steering well clear and going to Dolphin fish bar from now on.

Sorry but this should be a great place right on the pier, but the chips were awful, dry as a bone even with vinegar & sauce. The fish was freshly cooked so a little better. The shop is tired & not very clean. Such a shame. The seagulls did well though!

Estábamos visitando Eastbourne para el tenis, un evento muy popular. Decidimos "qué podría ser mejor que Fish & Chips en el paseo marítimo" antes de viajar a casa.

Decidí comer aquí ya que era nuestra primera vez en Eastbourne, no me molestaría otra vez, créanme, tenía 2 bacalaos y patatas fritas + 2 salchichas + patatas fritas, patatas fritas eran como pescado de cartón estaba cruda goteaba en aceite y frío en el medio y la pasta era empapado y harinoso.

Had a nice portion of chips at this place. Was not at all greasy. The lady who served us was chatty and polite. It was a gorgeous summers day so we sat on the beach and enjoyed them lots. Great price.

Grey fish, floury soggy batter, greasy chips with hard centres. How can you get it so wrong? Maybe a case of another coach party tomorrow. Never again which is a shame because it is in an ideal position.

A cold windy day, the rain threatening, what could be better than chips? Proper chips. Fresh cooked and served with a smile. In fact the service seasoned the chips better than salt and vinegar. Just perfect. And as you know I don't often give 5 stars. A moment in time? Hope not. I'll tell you next time I visit.

Wors5 fish & chips I’ve ever eaten! Fish was about 4 inches long & 2 inches wide. Flat as a pancake. Chips were soaked in dirty oil. VERY disappointed! We were in Eastbourne for a much needed break, myself & my wife. Only wished I would have went to another fish shop...

This review is from a few weeks back, usually I always put the date on my reviews, but did forget on this occasion. I had a lovely walk on Eastbourne Pier and then popped into the chippy. Chips on a polystyrene tray cost £1.80p. I also had a nice heated small polystryrene tub of curry sauce costing 85p, and a small bottle of Princes Gate Pembrokeshire Still Water. This is a honest review of my own personal visit - today - Thursday 12th October 2017 of The Chippy On The Pier at Eastbourne. "The best in town" and most favoured by myself with The Qualisea coming in at No: 2 in my humble opinion. I have been a number of times as a local living in Eastbourne. Prior to this I have also visited world famous Harry Ramsdens in Eastbourne & Brighton-each occasion has been a big let down to be honest. The Chippy On The Pier knocks spots off of Harry Ramsdens. Please note this chippy is open every day of the year and only closed on Christmas Day, so no worries regards seasonal opening times. The lovely gentleman as always whom I call "the boss" he served me today and advised me chips would be a minute or two. Bear in mind he opened up at 11am and I gave him time to get going as is only fair when cooking directly from fresh. Please also be advised that other customers whom were in the shop same time as myself-also rated this very same chippy as "the tops" and said "couldn't get fish any fresher" regards cooking of it, even though frozen in batter of course. These customers said the very same about Harry Ramsden branches as I have. Chips served in a polystyrene tray of ample portion costs £1.80p and was very filling-I thoroughly enjoyed! Sometimes I may have something with chips, but today I fancied chips (salt and vinegar on) alone after a beautiful bracing walk on the pier-which does tend to stir the appetite "the sea air". I asked for a cup of tap water and "the boss" duly obliged, nothing was any trouble. It's my Mum's Birthday in a few weeks time and if weather nice-so hoping a return visit. Please note where it mentions is this wheelchair accessible you would need to check with chippy before attending because the doorway to shop is a bit narrow, but I'm not sure whether some of those fold up ones would still fit ok or not (bearing in mind some folk use motorised disability car - but you could still eat outside if wishing too as you're covered underneath pier anyhow). Chippy does a child size menu as well. Regards Vegetarian Menu- I can only say well there's chips, pickled gherkin or onion.As for Gluten & Vegans - I've no idea to be honest-you'd have to ask "the boss" on this one.Large groups - I have seen crowds in this shop and it can get very busy as not overly big enough to cater to all to sit down in, but some groups do like to walk along pier eating their meals-so it's an individual preference. Do bear in mind as well it all depends on what numbers are in the group and what shop can accommodate health and safety wise. Seafood restaurant - well, this shop is a traditional British chippy and serves fish and chips. So "the boss" will advise you choicewise what's available to you but if you've any allergies do advise please. In my case, I'm allergic to prawns sadly for me. Please also note I couldn't pick Yes & No answers together-so have gone for not sure, but what I know I've written here - Thank You.

What to do for food at the seaside? It has to be the chippy! We were having a walkabout in Eastbourne and had just come from the Redoubt Fortress and were in need of food - The Chippy was the one for us! We got there just as the queue disappeared and ordered our chips with lashings of salt and vinegar! We all sat around a table and got stuck in, all of us enjoying the awesome taste of chips at the seaside. Lovely!

Fish and chips dry and tasteless and left a horrible after taste in the mouth, kids chicken nuggets tasted weird and the kids wouldn't eat them, but couldn't blame them. No wonder you have to pay upfront as you wouldn't of afterwards as it got chucked in the bin. Was expecting much better from a sea side chippy...not frozen food! Will stick to Hastings in the future!

Having read previous reviews, I was hesitant about trying The Chippy on the Pier. However, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the fish and chips that we had there last weekend. The fish and chips were both hot and crispy.

The fish was very nice. Don't try to eat on the pier because the seagulls are dangerous. Its good place...

Visitamos Eastbourne con un grupo de adultos discapacitados jóvenes, teníamos los usuarios de silla de ruedas y el personal era muy servicial. Nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos y el personal era amable y nada era demasiado problema. No nos apuraron en ninguna manera a pesar de ser temporada alta. Gracias por hacer que nuestro viaje de un día un éxito, le recomiendo que a otros. La comida también era de buena calidad y delicioso, el aprendizaje de todos comimos bien.

As you approach The Chippy on the Pier it looks great, position,plenty of customers and a friendly welcome.Fish and chips look lovely,great colour,look very fresh.It is when you see a bag of frozen chips being tipped into the fryer that you think, this isn't rightYou expect freshly cut and cooked chips in a fish and chip shop.Bland, mass produced frozen chips are not what you expect

See some really bad reviews for this place but my experience wasn't so terrible. The lady that served me was pretty friendly. I got a portion of cod and chips. I have to say compared to the local competition you get a stingy portion although it was still enough. The cod was pretty good! The chips were ok. They were not crisp and blandly floury. Not the worst chips I have ever had but ok. Plenty of salt and vinegar or sauce will fix it right up. It's convenient because it's right next to the beach on the end of the pier but there are far better choices to be had in Eastbourne. I would suggest getting them at Dolphin or Qualisea and walking the short walk back to the beach or in the case of Qualisea you can eat outside on their benches. If you really can't be bothered though, this will certainly do the job.

Re heated hard tasteless chips, fish dripping fat, white sausage in batter - never seen a white sausage from a chippy before! Cold hot chocolate, run out of tomato sauce and no forks left either.Talking to the folks at the ice cream stall they say the quality and service is always terrible and no one knows how they stay open.Suggest they don't, sell up and let someone who cares about what they do have a go.Stay away!
