A pretty good chip shop in the heart of the village. Pretty standard menu and average prices. Service was quick, but it was quiet when we were there.

Take a way fish and chips absolutely fantastic batter so light and the fish melted in mouth chips also fabulous also reasonable price definitely worth a visit

We really enjoyed our fish and chips, they were tasty and freshly cooked and we got to enjoy them overlooking the harbour. Even the gulls kept a polite distance although were quick to tidy up anything anyone had dropped!!

We’d been to the Padstow Chip Ahoy a couple of days earlier & that was awful so we were a bit reluctant to visit this one thinking they might be owned by the same people. They’re not - this one is under new management Apparently - & the food couldn’t have been more different. Had really nice fish & chips by the sea at half the price served by really friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely fabulous , new management and what a difference , lovely big portions and proper fresh cut chips … the best curry sauce ever and good prices .

Could not recommend them more!! We walked in off the street having got married only hours before. The staff were incredibly accommodating and took our order to feed our 12 wedding guests. We ordered far too much and yet not a chip was wasted. Agreed by many - the best fish and chips we had ever had. Curry sauce was AMAZING. Absolutely not to be missed.

first night of our holiday and he fancied fish and chips, but only after we'd toured the local restaurants and read every menu! Back to Chip Ahoy, which was close to our holiday cottage.......lovely fish freshly cooked, and loads of chips. Great start to our break and no washing up!

Arrived in Polperro after a long journey to find a queue of about 20 people outside the fish shop at 19:20hrs. Quite happy to queue, as we understand things are different at the moment. However, after being there for 10 mins it was announced by the young lady staff member that they were closing with immediate effect so that they could get closed down for 20:00hrs!!! Surely you advise the people that are already queuing that they will get served then no one else after that, as some people had been there longer than us. After much annoyance by everyone, we were told that we could have some chips & scampi but no fish, as the fish was still frozen. We agreed to have scampi & chips so stood outside waiting for a further 19 mins for it to be cooked. I think the scampi had been freshly cooked but the chips were stone cold and greasy, the portion of scampi was the meanest I have ever come across and the smallest gherkin I have ever seen for £1.20. Disgusting food, disgusting treatment of customers too. We thought that when the shop was taken over by the new owner Ben that the quality would have been better than it had been previously but it appears to be just as bad and that they close when they choose to close rather than to the timetable on the door. It appeared to be the topic of conversation in the pub the next night, as a few people were not happy. Good luck with your new business. I think you need to think how it operates and maybe have someone slightly older to tend to the logsitics of it all.

Unbelievable size portion of chips. £2.50 tourist prices Come on fair price fair bag full. No wonder tourist complain. We are locals ourselves.

Fantastic scampi and chips. We both agreed that it was the best chips we’ve had in a long time! Great portions too. Watch out for the seagulls!!

Recently went on holiday to the lovely village of Polperro. It can be tricky to get a meal in the restaurants as you have to book ahead. The pubs only take walk ins. We decided to have good old fashioned fish and chips. Staff are friendly. Fish and chips were lovely, we enjoyed it so much we went again during the holiday.

We had dinner from there and it was not great food. Nice people but poor quality. Saveloy not cooked

Came to polperro on a day trip with the family and stumbled upon the chip ahoy on the harbour. DELICIOUS!!! Proper chips, lightly battered fish and chunky curry sauce. Staff so helpful when asking about the village.

Went on a day out to polperro and this was one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had, chips tasted fresh and the cod was amazing. 100% would recommend definitely a go to place.

Worst chips we have ever had! Burnt pieces of dried up frozen chips! Hubby had haddock not much better! All went in the bin we had a sandwich instead! Save your cash!

We had lunch on Tuesday 25th May, it was a wet day which was saved by the most delicious fish and chips we’ve had in ages. The restaurant had just opened that week, may even have been that day! They’re not quite sorted out yet,...

Ordered food and when the food came items were missing. The lady taking the order didn't seem to actually want to take our order. But the lady cooking and doing the take away ordered seemed to care and love her job.

Family visit, fish and chips were spot on, kids had sausage and chips, nothing left, happy all round, will be visiting again I hope.

Absolutely amazing fish & chips. The staff couldn’t do enough for you. Definitely worth eating there.

Had a delicious lunch of cod and chips. The fish was white and flaky and batter very crispy. The chips were also very good. We thought the price reasonable compared to many pubs and restaurants who charge much more. Can only assume any bad reviews...

Arrived when just opened and decided to eat in.. Self distancing followed within restaurant and they had three indoor tables.. Enjoyed our fish and chips and no issues with service. Would recommend, check opening hours as not open every day and only certain hours..

Haddock and large chips for two, couldn’t fault them, The staff were lovely really friendly and helpful! Variety if fish to choose from, and if they run out of bread rolls they butter slices of bread for you to take out, what else could you want!! Sat on on bench at the harbour to eat them and life was sweet!

Stopped off today on the way back from the beach and ordered two jumbo sausages and chips plus a cone of chips. To say the portions were poor is an understatement. The two jumbo sausage and chips were served in a tray with insufficient chips to cover the bottom of the tray with the sausage balanced on top. The kids were still hungry after they finished. What they did have they did say was nice.

Freshly cooked to order. Yes, they did have a blip with our order which was instantly resolved - it was the end of the season & we were the only customers so maybe things do get fraught if busier. However, we enjoyed our lunch and the portions were pretty good. Bit pricey, but isn't everywhere in this part of the world!!

The location is ideal to catch a lot of tourists down in the harbour.Staff were friendly and welcoming and couldn’t really do enough, checking all was ok etc (we ate in). The restaurant itself is clean, but the toilet looked a bit well used and could do with a general sweep up of the cobwebs.Food tasty, not the biggest portions, but at least we didn’t leave feeling we’d eaten too much.The only let down really was the price. We should have checked before ordering, but were surprised to be given the bill at the end that matched eating in a sit down restaurant.If your visiting or staying in Polperro and fancy fish and chips this place is certainly worth visiting.

Am shocked by the negative reviews we had fish and chips here it was freshly cooked crispy not greasy and tasted lovely. I had the rock fish as recommended by the friendly owner and it was one of the nicest fish I've ever had. Perhaps other people caught them on a bad day

It's a good job this place is here. Because, you may well find that you have left it too late to get a table at one of the pubs here in polperro. The pubs in Polperro will not let you book a table, so you may very well end up here, like so many other people.

Not the best fish and chips i have had. Very small portons and had a tea for two with no extra hot water to refill the teapot. The chap serving was flustered and started to give someone else our food, and it wasn't even busy. The only bonus was it was dog friendly. Wouldn't go again

We called in as they were closing, but the proprietors had no hesitation in feeding us at the tables. My family were in this trade for many years so I can honestly say that this is worth a visit. Not fancy, but spotless, everything freshly cooked.

Not sure about the bad reviews but tried this place and found it ok. I’ve certainly had worse. Will go again.

What a wonderful place Polperro is, but what a shame that in a prime location there has to be one of the worst fish and chips shops I've visited. As a local to the area and someone who regularly visits fish and chips, this is hands down the worst experience I've had. Both the fish and chips were undercooked, pale and tasteless. The batter was a soggy mess. There's really no excuse in such a great location. I find it embarrassing that tourists go there and must be really underwhelmed. The staff seemed disinterested and resigned, or just don't care and take advantage of the tourist trade. Either way, avoid at all costs.

Friendly, clean, attentive staff and lovely friendly atmosphere in a superb setting. Check out the Polperro photographs on the wall. Fish and chips doesn't get much fresher than here.

On holiday we opted for fish and chips one day and they were very nice but because the place is very busy we had to wait a while

They kept the shop open to serve us last night which was so nice of them (we were hovering outside and the lady came out as she didn’t want to see us hungry ☺️) my fish and chips was really nice and my husband’s scampi was also lovely. Would definitely go back - thank you

We hadn't long arrived in the village and as we were hugry, decided to try Chip Ahoy. The woman serving wasn't the most friendly and immediately said, "2 fish and chips", which we didn't want. It was clearly an inconvenience when we were looking at the board and deciding what to have. It turned out they were ready to close, but wanted the last couple of pounds that we were due to spend. On looking at the board it appeared that the prices were inflated. £2.30 for sausage in batter. We decided what we were having and left with our food. It was tasteless, the curry sauce was clearly from a packet and again was tasteless. I think the chips may have been frozen ones. We ate the food because we were hungry but wished, like others we had eaten in many of the lovely restaurants available It seems that they are serving substandard food for inflated prices. Would never eat at this place again.

Totally disorganised staff. The poor man cooking the food didn't have a clue what he was supposed to be cooking. Very small portions of chips, undercooked. Batter was pale and soggy with very little fish inside. The sausage was ok. Overall I would avoid

I have visited Polperro nearly every year for the past 12 years and have used chip ahoy in an emergency only. On this recent visit we arrived in our cottage late afternoon and tired, and thus decided to go to the chip shop.

Polperro the most expensive place to park in Cornwall, it doesn’t matter if you are their for 20 mins or 3 hours it will cost you a fiver to park. Fish and chips were quite tasty but I soon ate all my ten chips that I had waited too long for and was still hungry. Potatoes must be a rarity. In all it was very small portions for the price.

Took about 20 mins to cook 2 x fish and chips. We visited in the evening, and wasnt busy. The fish was ok but the batter was terrible and the chips were just a blob of oily potato stuck together. Pretty disgusting. The whole establishment was quite run down, poorly set up and just not pleasant. Wish we'd gone to the pub a bit further on, which smelt amazing! We will never give this shop our business ever again.

After being out all day and looking forward to something to eat we tried this place. The service was 'strange' but this is polperro. We had cod and chips twice. The fish was ok bit the chips wrte the worst that we have evet had. We did not eat most of oir meals as the chips tainted everything.

Our experience was excellent however, very friendly & chatty staff, cod cooked from fresh which was delicious as were the chips, 3 of us had generous portions of fish & chips with change (50p) from £20 which for me is great value, a real treat, just be careful eating outside the seagulls are waiting to pounce !

Very poor, disgusting chips, average fish. The establishment was a shambles. Dirty, disorganised, untidy, just awful. Spoilt our lunch treat. Particularly disappointing as when I was a child this shop sold the best fish & chips in England. Not anymore.

Visited here at the end of May. My sister and I both had fish, chips, bread and butter, and tea also I had peas. The fish was ok, peas were good but the chips were awful! Tasted like they had either been par cooked then cooked again or had been reheated! It was 2pm so cant imagine they were the day before’s warm ups?! Also my tub of butter was pure rancid oil couldn’t spread it. We were both so disappointed as we had been so looking forward to proper fish and chips by the sea!! Won’t be returning I’m afraid!

On arrival we where invited inside to eat. A very strange place we sat behind the fryers.

We had haddock and chips and they were tasty although the portion was on the small size. Staff were not overly friendly or chatty but pleasant enough. Premises could certainly do with a lick of paint and some TLC. As the only chip shop in Polperro this should be really busy but it wasn’t particularly.

Came in on the off chance, had chips and tea to take away. Kind of odd set up, husband and wife, who were well past retirement age. He a bit flustered taking orders and making tea, the lady cooking and educating seated guests on what they should or shouldn't be doing. Not the same as when Steve Byford had it 12 years ago. Chips were good, tea was good.

Took an hour and a half drive here to experience a traditional fish and chips dinner. It took 20mins to arrive and was such a small portion. Drinks were cold by the time dinner arrived. The dinner was was dished up in a cardboard box with wooden knives and forks. Food was OK, but not what was expected very disappointing. The sign on the wall explained the reason behind disposable plates and cutlery, but really! What a let down. £20 for fish and chips x2! What a rip off

We visited here as a family while on our holidays it’s a chip of the old block, the food is yummy the portions could be bigger but hey maybe we are greedy!

The food was almost as lifeless as the people serving it. Chips were frozen, fish was smelly, not catch of the day but “catch of last week” DISGUSTING!!!! Even the seagulls wouldn’t take that rubbish

Tried this place once unfortunately the portion was small and unsure if they were made in traditional chip oil, just didn't come across well and served in polystyrene. Fish was not great for a fishing village. Such a shame as could be much better.

Got my order in just before they closed. Had haddock and chips which was OK although I thought both the fish and chips portions rather small. However, it was pleasant eating at the harbour. Fish batter a bit thick but fish inside was nice and flaky. I would rate overall at 3.5, bigger fish would have got 4.

We went on four occasions to this place but it was closed by 7:30 ish every night! Don't think you can roll out the pub and walk home with a bag of chips from here !

Oh dear, very sad to say this establishment not up to scratch. Ordered cod and was served a rather grey looking fish in a pale greasy batter. Looked similar to pollack or coalfish. Shame that one expects a fish and chip shop on the coast to be superior to inland places. Strange that living in Northamptonshire I can buy superior quality fish for less. Maybe this business just taking unsuspecting visitors for a ride.

After the 8hr trip it taken for us to reach Polperro we decided to have takeaway chips for our late tea. What a mistake this was! The lady who served us was rude and very abrubt. We also had to wait about 50 minutes for chips and chicken nuggets. When it came it was awful. The chips were not chip shop chips but frozen chips that weren't even cooked particular well. My teenage son had an adults nuggets and chips and it was the smallest portion and wouldn't fill a toddler. I have never tasted food as appalling as this. The place looked like it needed scrubbing down too. Overpriced for cheap and poor quality food.

Oh what a shame. The most perfect position, but with an owner who is blind, indifferent or plain stupid not to realise the potential of this place. Instead we have a run down, tatty, cheap ‘fish and chip’ shop, which uses frozen chips (despite saying Cornish potatoes on the menu – watch out for a letter from the ASA!). The batter is like a paste, not crispy or light, just flat and gloopy.

We ordered a take out which we ate back in our cottage. The fish was delicious. Note they close at 7:30 which is earlier than we expected, so don't leave it too late.

Having had one bad experience at eating in Polperro we decided to return to the good old fish and chip shop. We also decided to eat inside.

Chatty host. Great service. Great food. Good value. Good range and choice. Would definitely reccommend.

my wife and I chose a take away fish and chips from this shop to eat back at our cottage although you can sit in and eat if you wish The fish was well cooked and so were the chips.later in the week we again visited this shop for cornish pastie and chips again all well cooked and presented very profesionally .

Coming from a seaside area, we have experienced both good & bad 'chippys'. This one is no more than average though the fish was excellent. The chips and batter were less than good. The position of the shop makes it memorable. Eating fish & chips whilst sat on the harbour wall with the sun slowly disappearing over the prettiest village in Cornwall was brilliant - even if the product didn't quite match it.

After reading the reviews on this 'restaurant', David Hayes sums it up perfectly but I can't help but twist the knife just a little more!

In previous visits to lovely Polperro we have avoided Chip Ahoy because of poor reviews. However, we really fancied fish and chips which should be lovely in this old fishing village. Sadly this was not the case. The meal was cooked fresh and whilst the chips were fine, the fish was a small portion and extremely greasy. My wife wished she had just had a portion of chips. We would not return.

When I visited this fish and chip shop, I ordered a cod to take away. It wasn't cheap, at about £4.65, but you expect to pay mor3 in a seaside resort as usually the fresh fish is excellent.

Really yummy fish and chips cooked freshly for us, and reasonably priced. Not the poshest of places to eat but good tasty food and good portions.

The fish was ok, the batter not to my liking. The chips greasy and soggy. Worthwhile driving to Looe instead for a satisfying meal.

Came here for a day out to Polperro, dropped in for fish and chips. Was lovely food, light batter cooked in clean oil, crispy chips and they unbidden let us try a small portion of Rock to try with our main meal.

We had fish n chips from here before and they were good but this time around not so. We did try fish called Rock which, through no fault but our own, was not to our taste but even the chips were average at best.

I am sorry to say that even though the lady in the shop was friendly and chatty, the fish and chips were awful I don't know how they managed it but the chips were really overcooked but soggy and greasy as well. The fish was good quality but the batter was undercooked and soggy. We were really looking forward to fish and chips in a traditional little fishing village but were sadly disappointed. They were cooked fresh as well!

These chips were fine. I enjoyed them anyway. And the old man was fine. The chippy could do with some updating inside, but I would buy from here again. A little expensive, only a little. See you in April!

Warm friendly local chippy, excellent quality fish and chips , reasonable prices, we ate in, highly recommend.

We went to this fishing village expecting freshly caught haddock from the atlantic ocean and locally grown potatoes for the chips. We were dished up the most revolting portion of fish & Chips we have ever had with cold mushy peas out of a tin.

Sell fish and chips, and anything else a chip shop sells, what else can I say, oh and wooden forks, salt and pepper
