Delivery guy was very pleasant but unfortunately the food wasn’t. Had food from here before and was average but tonight was the worse to the point we threw majority away. For £30 I don’t feel it was worth it.

What has happened to the China Garden? This used to be one of the best take aways in Pompey. Just ordered a chicken curry which was totally tasteless. Loads of onion, not much chicken and certainly no spice/curry. This is the last time I will be going here unless they get their act together. All these bad reviews can't be wrong and the owners can't even be bothered to respond!!

First and last time of using. The food was awful. The curry tasted of nothing and after just a few mouthfuls threw it the bin. Spring rolls bland and tasted like the oil used had gone off. Sometimes you can get a curry from a place and it just ok but can still eat it. This was inedible, I think the worst Chinese I have ever had!

Found the china garden on Uber eats. This was our 2nd time ordering from the china garden and it was tasty & fresh. Delivery was very quick. I have tried so many Chinese takeaways in Portsmouth and they have been awful. the china garden is now my go to!!

Just picked up a Chicken Curry. No flavour what so ever. Wife had a spring roll, same,totally bland. Very disappointed,

Food was amazing, ordered £80 worth of food (did get 25% off via just eat) food took 1 hour and 45 minuets to arrive. I understand this happens sometimes especially when busy but when I called and asked politely what the ETA was on the food the gentleman on the phone said well we have other orders to deal with too you know, we are busy. No apology, no custom service just a rude horrible man giving me grief. It's a shame that the food was so good but I won't be returning to line the pockets of people with attitude like that.

Food was cold and 100% tasteless. Chicken curry & fried rice Beef chowmein Prawn crackers I’ve had spicier omelettes. Delivery driver was very polite though 👍🏻

Used to be really good but lately really bad. Curry with zero curry powder. Totally tasteless. Pork in Yellow Bean sauce which was as tough as an old flip flop. Never again.

For a £38 order we didn’t got any prawn crackers, they always come free from any Chinese takeaway? we have ordered and the food was also just warm not hot!? Really disappointed 😔

Waited an hour then phoned up asking where it was. To find out they didn't even have it on. So had to wait another half hour. When the food turns up was warm. Not hot. Curry was thick. If the place is busy shouldn't be taking orders.

Previously good... gone downhill. Mock duck pancakes excellent, rice and noodles good. Prawn curry sauce congealed and plonked on top of prawns .... Same with Thai green curry. Very very salty Thai curry ...couldn't eat. Won't be using again.

Lovely Chinese never had a bad takeaway from here always been spot on.Food always arrives piping hot and never had no trouble with missing items etc.Sweet n Sour chicken balls are really nice and the chicken curry is one the best I’ve had.Great value for money you could easily feed a family of four for about £30 or less which in this day and age is much needed.

I waited a hour and a quarter for my food and I live in northover rd which is a 2 minute drive from tangiers Rd and this was on a Sunday at 5.50pm. So it was lukewarm when I eventually received it. The excuse I received was they had to go to naval base before me!!!! Common sense tells me to go to northover rd 1st as its only 2 mins away. We used to order from here a lot but never again,rude delivery man too.

Great take away which offers delivery. Food is excellent. Have never been disappointed with the quality and quantity of the food.

Meal just ok but egg fried rice was dreadful. It was brown not white with noju sign of egg! How can a chinese get that wrong I can cook better won't go back

So, tried the China Garden after a 2 year absence and would like to post an honest review. *King prawns in salt and pepper - excellent. Big prawns and plentiful too. *BBQ spare ribs- tender and meaty, but sauce need to be richer to give that sweet sticky taste. *Chicken curry - lots of it, but the sauce used was not very flavourful and a bit powdery tasting, like it’s not cooked through. *Egg fried rice - very nice and plentiful. *Free mini spring rolls - nice touch! We will go back and use again, but there are so many dishes on the menu (inherited from previous owner), that I wonder if reducing and specialising would be the way forward?

Duck starter was full of fatty skin, King Prawn in black bean sauce was nice, however the egg fried rice was stone cold!

3rd time we have had a delivery from here, restarted using them about 8 weeks ago after a gap of 6 months due to a few bad meals, i must say the standard has improved the food is tasty and spicy arrives hot and always before stated time, they have left just eat and you order off there website which is very easy to use, i must say the new owners have really improved now on what used to be a good Chinese to a really good one (after a very disappointing start but i will forget this as might of been down to lockdown)

Turned up as the football finished and much more exciting.. my prawns were delicious.. ty guys, 5* as always x

Unfortunately this place has changed hands so my review is not longer relevant. No more gluten free here. Excellent for gluten free Chinese food. They can tell you which dishes they can make gluten free. Eaten here many times and never been glutened 😀

Total waste of time, order online, pay and then told that they cannot deliver. So they hold my money for four days,. Phoned up to be told " no worries mate" Disgraceful website and customer service.

Always used China garden. But new owners can't stop burning everything that's fried an curry was so watery. Gave us wrong ribs an was really rude when phoned up to solve bad food for second time. Gone right down hill.

We have used this place for a few years regularly and thought it one of the best ones. BUT I'm presuming it has changed hands as the past 2 food orders were not good. The ribs were dried up/small and didn't seem fresh and they added Some horrible sauce(which isn't needed) to both the king prawns and char sui(which had no bean sprouts as it should!). Sorry to say won't be ordering again.

This is under new management and the food is less than ordinary. All the food that was delivered to house was tasteless.

This is usually our preferred take away of choice however yesterday we seemed to have a problem. My Husband always orders a side of Satay sauce and yesterday he said it had no taste of peanuts but more similar to curry sauce, he thought they just sent the wrong sauce so he used it anyway. I didn't have the sauce but we ate the same food unfortunately my Husband had food poisoning throughout the night and still this morning but I am fine. It makes me wonder was it the correct sauce but gone off.

As Chinese goes this wasn’t your average took a stab in the dark for a random Chinese wasn’t let down, chicken balls were lovely good meat and ratio to batter wasn’t soggy. Asked for a couple changes which were made overall taste wasn’t too shabby. Food wasn’t over priced which was a bonus and half hour delivery will be going back for sure

Absolutely lovely food hot fresh and staff are friendly. Ordered for 5 people and we are fussy can honestly say this is the best chinese ever.

Food was really great, hot and plentiful portions. Staff cheerful and very friendly obviously enjoy the work. I would recommend this take away, also one of only a few open on Tuesdays in the area.

I am absolutely disgusted with this place.. I live in shared accommodation therefore put on the ticket for the driver to call on arrival so he wouldn’t have to wait around (I am on top floor and never hear the door) I received a call from him shouting he had been waiting 10 minutes and he was downstairs, I told him I’d be down in a second. As I opened my front door he was at his car, he abruptly got out the vehicle and started power walking towards me. When he got to my door he was right in my face shouting I’ve been here ten minutes. I told him it does say to call when here and he then said he’s right and I’m wrong. He continued to get in my face and tower above me. He then shoved my food straight into my body shouting ten minutes. I then told him I would be calling the restaurant to complain.. when I opened the food. Half of it was cold, the only thing warm was the chow mein and some chicken balls.. I threw the rest away.. I then received another call. This time from the restaurant manager. He didn’t apologise once when I told him what happened, he told me he would refund £6.30 and as for my cold food he wanted me to bag it up and return it.. I told him that I was going to call him so he could resolve the issue. He told me that if I didn’t like his answer to complain to just eat! DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. STAY CLEAR AT ALL COSTS!!!

when the takeaway opened the food was great. now the food is vile, service is still good and staff polite, if you want to waste your money then try this place but you have been warned, the food is very poor as in cheap food and not a very good chef. food has lost its flavour and appeal

Surprised to see some of the bad reviews, have always had good meals from here, certainly well above average. Dont think you'd find a better take away in town. They arent keen on you paying with your card that is true.....but nothing up with the food.

Take away on New Year’s Eve is a bit of a risk. But the delivery girl arrived promptly with piping hot food. Fab hot and sour soup. Great ribs. Generous sti fried veg. Then oh dear...crispy fried beef in sweet and sour was SOOOOOOOOO vinegary, my mouth puckers up remembering...yuk. Crispy fried beef to me is when flavoursome shredded beef is fried til crisp and dry...not meat coated in thick batter and fried. Much the same for fried shrimps....generous portion of shrimp but WAAAAY to much batter, which turned very quickly to goop in the sauce. The ribs were amazing, though. I live in France and spices are scantily used, these ribs were succulent and drenched in a spicy sauce I shall remember for a long time. Yum

Food was half and hour late compared to the time given, delivery guy had an awful attitude and the food was less than pleasing! A Tesco microwave meal would be better value for money! A shame as this was our first time trying to find a new fave!

Food is always nice and up until today I would have given 5 stars however despite being regular customers refused to let my friend pay by card over the phone because the delivery address was different to the card address when I said that isn't against the law etc he got very difficult and rude about it. Then when I said about making a suggestion of putting the drinks on online ordering he start going on about the card thing again and going on about fraud.

We order from here every weekend some times twice a week and have never been let us down. The food is great and one of the best in town 😊

I’ve tried lots on their menu and NEVER been disappointed by the quality and quantity of the dishes.

The take away has been and gone. It now uses cheap ingredients and unqualified chefs. On 5 occasions now we have ordered food £25+ each time and the food is vile and has not eaton. Each time we put it down to a 1 off. We thought that the weekend food would be good because they would use a chef who knows how to cook,but alas it is not. Our dog eats better than the food we have got from the china garden. When the takeaway started out it was good food and we ordered 2/3 times a week. Now it has a customer base standards have gone through the floor. Save your money and find another place to order your food. If you do order food do so at your own risk,you are only going to waste your money. we will never order from here again. Its a shame because the food was good as was the service, now it has all gone down the pan.

So I ordered 2 servings of chow mein and stir fried vegetables. Now when it arrived we were hungry, I think we all agree that when you're hungry and the Chinese arrives you're going to be ready to go and I'd be lying if I said we weren't all over that delivery like..well I would say smiles on the delivery guy but he was a bit miserable. At some point while grinding through the pale noodles and anemic chicken I kind of gave up on the stir fried vegetables as I'm not sure how many times they'd been fried before they reached me but this didn't look like the first. Now we took this in stride in the evening but in the morning when we woke and had that moment of peacefully becoming aware of each other, that moment usually reserved for a soft, welcoming smile to the day was put aside for the mutual agreement that last night we ate some god awful chow mein. On the upside I know not to waste my money ordering from here again so you know...win in the long run.

Brought a takeaway from here appalling food my son couldn't eat the special fried rice the beef was fatty and couldn't eat it I ordered a vermincelli Singapore the chicken was like rock very expensive and would never use this takeaway again a very bad Chinese

This was the top Chinese takeaway on just eat so ordered online. When we confirmed the order we were told it would take 45 to 60mins. We didn't mind the wait but were emailed 5 minutes later to say it would now take 90mins!!! Worth it though as the food was lovely.

We ordered a large amount of food for two people on Tuesday night about 9:15. The food delivery time quoted was 45 to 60 minutes. We had the food in less than 30 minutes. We were happy with this. The food was hot and fresh. The quality was fantastic. We had ordered Chinese from another place the week before and it was horrendous. Very pleased, will order from this place again. I especially liked the mixed started.

We have had food from here many many times, but this evening something Is different!! Although the food was ok is was not as enjoyable as normal. Not sure if they have changed suppliers or the chef, what a shame will look further afield next time

The food was bad! Noodles looked like were cooked yesterday! The spring roles were just made of soya with one little prawn! Not ordering again! Waste of my money.

This is a very nasty place go this place literally have real rats I can't tell you about two times I went there and to make sure of what I saw was what I really seen ok?I would not recommended anyone to eat there. I have also known two people who got food poison there. So the warning is do not eat there.I myself have gotten sick from eating there but could not prove that was food poison so I just had a bad case of diarrhea for about a couple of days.
