Oriental Pearl in Portsmouth

Absolutely rude delivery driver who wouldn't get out the car and deliver the food to the front door stating that the entry door is a door and that he'd parked in a bus stop followed by a load more mouth, I wouldn't recommend using this place unless you want to be verbally abused

Said they delivered it at 6 on the app but didnt turn up till 6.30

I've used this take away for years, always been good food, good price, I ordered crispy shredded chilli beef, chicken chow mein, prices have increased, portions have diminished, the food was very good however. Not sure I'll use em anymore. There are more generous restaurants out there.

God awful. Everything was just bad. Sloppy and tasted awful…. There was nothing meritous about the order and when it comes to a takeaway, this place should be shut down

Food arrived very late and was almost cold. Horrible. The chicken balls were absolutely disgusting.

Also the food was all cold , the sweet & sour chicken balls were cold & rock hard , the salt & pepper king prawn was cold & spilled out , the chips were cold & hard , the chicken chow main was cold & at the bottom of the bag

Food has really declined. The food was salty, greasy and luke warm at best. Sorry I will not be ordering again

I have orded my food thinking that i was ordering from oriental Pearl in cheetham Hill , Manchester, when i discovered my mistake i call the take way and they been really Nice and canceled my order straitaway but still not have my money back on to my bank account yet. Seem to be good people. There is One Oriental Pearl chinese take away Im Manchester which i use and also never let me down nor fail with my orders.

The Oriental Pearl is our favourite for Chinese food in Portsmouth. It really is restaurant quality - excellent every time.

Early but delivered wrong food and when they corrected it food was cold

Ordered the food online, came 30 min late and was lukewarm at best. Chicken was very dry and spring rolls had basically no filling. Order wasn’t correct either!

I don't know what's happened but every order is now wrong...which isn't the issue, it's the attitude we then get when pointing this out. So no longer will I order from here.

Delivery was timely. Unfortunately I have no idea why the shredded pork udon was chow mein noodles with only two actual udon noodles and both that dish and the roast pork with cashew nuts were heavily spiced with chilli making them pretty much inedible for someone who deliberately chooses non spicy dishes. The roast pork with cashew nuts was also 50/50 pork/onions. I'm told the bbq spare ribs were lovely.

Food never showed up and refused to give me a refund I never received my goods or my money back. Upon speaking to the restaurant I was basically told there is nothing no one can do and I just loose my money. Absolutely shocking. Will never be going back for sure.

What happened? Not the same Oriental Pearl I was constantly ordering from years ago. I was obsessed with the Sweet and Sour Pork Hong Kong Style and Crispy Shredded Beef as they were almost always cooked crispy but now they are soggy and bland.

Food was cold… very late… never again

Some of the worst quality and unflavourful food I’ve ever had. Fried rice has very little chicken in and the chicken it did have was little brown pieces (likely leg meat). The rice was just plain boiled. The sauces were cold. No ‘chef’ would look at that food and send it out not knowing this. Who opens a restaurant and strives to serve such poor food and at the price tag of much better restaurants. You’ll likely regret ordering from here.

Have not ordered from them in a while, the food was awful.. Runny curry and Foo yung had no taste, they have definitely gone down hill i will stick with my normal Chinese shop zen they are fantastic

Cold food, delivered 25 minutes late and delivery driver was very nonchalant. Not even an apology for lateness and cold food.

Chips were dry and reheated not fresh , our order was missing the rice , the rest of the order was poor quality and not so tasty to what we usually expect from other takeaways in the local area

Squid was over cooked. Pork balls were over cooked. And so was the ribs. Spent alot of money was not impressed.

Always order from here for our Chinese, its best in Southsea tried a few other places but they just don't compare.

Ordered on Uber food was hot deliveries within 30 mins + free prawn crackers , they also look at the notes for no veg etc

Ordered Singapore chow mein and chicken noodle soup for collection, was ready in 15 minutes. Staff were very friendly and polite, would highly recommend.

Rice did seem cooked enough for a Fried rice. I ordered a Special Satay & got a duck Satay which was watery Did arrive on time but not impressed with standard of food generally 🤔

My all time fav Chinese take away place. They have their own delivery team, Amazing fast delivery and polite staff are bonus. I love the crispy duck and special show mien. Keep cooking the good food at reasonable prices.

Good food but angry and very rude delivery staff. Delivered but driver started having a go at me, shouting and swearing because I didn’t list my flat number, checked my order and it was there clearly listed. He obviously has a chip on his shoulder, or a small member… Don’t appreciate someone shouting at me when they are in the wrong

Initially avoided this place because of the poor reviews, but noticed it was under new management so gave it a try. Great food, good prices, and they even completed an order we made past closing time coming back steamed from the pub. Legends :)

Used to be my go to Chinese but they either have new owners or new chef there was no flavour whatsoever. Chips were hard and duck was over cooked.

This place never lets down, is reasonably priced, portions are huge, and food is always hot and tasty, can't go wrong.

DO NOT ORDER !!!!!!!!!!!! My sister was sick from the beef. They also sent us a wrong order and it took 2 hours and 30 minutes to deliver us the right one. This is horrific. I work in catering and I know the standards that need to be met and this is far from that. They refused a refund even after I told them my family member had been sick and the boss said he did not care. SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR A BETTER DINNER !!!!! This place has been reported by my company!!

I have no idea what all of these terrible reviews are about. I have been ordering from Oriental pearl for the last 6 years and have never been disappointed. Really nice to find other cuisines on the menu too. Great food and staff are always happy to help. I would be afraid to try anywhere else now in case it didn't meet my standards.

Ordered food at 6.31pm and told it would be 30-45 minutes,at 7.45pm i phoned to ask where it is and was told it was with the driver and i said wil it be hot andwas told i am a liar and and she put the phone down on me!!proper customer service

Ordered over the phone, told lady our address and she said the wrong one so we corrected her and she just said yeah and disregarded it. Then order was nearly 2 Hours. Called up a couple times to see where it is and the lady said 10 minutes each time. Order turned up to wrong address which we had corrected with the lady on the phone and she sent it to the wrong address anyways. Then delivery man called and we told him right address. He turned up and asked us for cash even though we paid by card so had to stand in the cold for 10 minutes while he checked with the resteraunt it was paid for. Then saw our order had ‘crispy shredded beef’ instead of ‘crispy seaweed’ So called up to say they had forgot our crispy seaweed and the lady said she will send the driver and it will be 10 mins. After 20 mins we called up to see where it was and she acted like she knew nothing about me calling up beforehand about the seaweed. She checked our order and said we never ordered it so I told her she must of misheard us(same as she did with the address) and sent us the wrong thing. She said she would send the seaweed this time and I said at the end of the call for her to confirm she was actually sending it and not just saying she will like previously and she hung up. Finally after half an hour it turned up.

Ordered a chicken curry rice and pancake rolls after eating a couple of mouthfalls checked the chicken to find it was pink stopped eating straight away.tel restaurant to inform them and request refund they sent driver back who checked my meal at the door and said it was fine which it deffinatley was not the pancake roll was disgusting as well agreed to give me a refund when I said I would take the food to the nhs england.I have photos which I will pass on to the food standards. Just got everything crossed I don't become ill shortly. PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE. Tried to say they had a new chef !!!

Looks a little shabby, but the food is mostly OK.

This made me dreadfully ill, all I could do for 24 hours after the meal was lie on my floor in a shaking hot mess. Eat here if you are into near death experiences. Kung Po chicken, more like Kung Poo chicken.

We ordered a meal from this take away as it is a firm favourite of my daughters’ and we have always enjoyed tasty food from there. As soon as we opened the dishes today we could see that the sauces were watery, as we tasted the food we all remarked that it was completely tasteless and sickly, we are a very non fussy family but we were unable to eat it. I phoned the establishment to enquire whether it had changed hands and they confirmed that it had. Ignore any reviews older than 6 months as they refer to the previous pleasant and very capable chefs

Have been waiting over 2 hours now for my order. Have rung up 3 times to a lady who keeps telling me it will 20mins/10mins every time. Asked for a refund told there's nothing she can do... How about give me my food? Won't be ordering from here again

Really disappointed with tonight's service. Not only was our food delivered late (rang up and was told they were busy which is understandable for a Saturday) but when it eventually turned up almost an hour and a half after ordering it, part of our order was missing. When rang to explain this, was told that it wasn't too bad as it was included 'free' as part of the meal- it wasn't, was a paid add on to a curry and beside the point. When I asked what could be done for the inconvenience was told they'd send it out, and after I further asked about compensation I was offered fortune cookies for the mistake! This eventually turned up 30mins after our other food, meaning we didn't even get to eat it as part of our order. Used to be a regular customer- 4 years its been one of our top choices, but wont bother now after this fiasco, shame as the foods always nice

I tried this place this evening (17 August) as a change to my usual takeaway as they have a dish on their menu that I wanted to try which was "Special Thai Mixed Sweet Sour Chilli". It was awful. In fact the so called "beef" element of the dish was disgusting. It was so dry it made a thud when I deliberately dropped a piece on the floor. God knows how long it had been hanging around. Whilst the other elements seemed a little more edible the beef issue made me throw over half the meal away. Needless to say I will never use this outlet again. As has been mentioned in other reviews, thankfully Southsea has an excellent choice of takeaway. The most disappointing the staff must have known they were putting inedible food into the container. Very worrying indeed! Steer clear!!

The food from this place is disgusting. After clearing away, washing up & disposing of the whole meal I phoned to speak to the Manager. I was told that no one spoke English ( very convenient !!! ) plus I was told that I should have complained within the hour of receiving the meal !!! What shocking customer service !!! But the best is yet to come...upon saying that I will give a poor rating on Tripadvisor I was told... quote " I don't care ". A surly attitude is bad enough but couple that with food that looks as bad as it tastes equals a recipe for disaster. This is by no means authentic ..the duck meat is so tough that it is inedible, plus the Thai green curry is flavourless & watery. Do NOT order from this 3rd rate place...there are plenty of superb Chinese/ Cantonese/ Thai etc where you can be assured of a decent meal & polite service.

The food from this restaurant was dry and inedible. When phoning up to make a complaint at 11:15pm , a young child answered the phone. I then asked to speak to the manager i.e. An adult....after 2 minutes an adult finally came to the phone. After explaining my complaints I was told that if I didn't like the food the I shouldn't order here again. When asking why there was a child answering the phone , I was told that the child was off from school. Just to reiterate it was 11:15pm on a Wednesday night. The food at this restaurant is inedible and this restaurant practices child exploitation. I would not recommend dining here or ordering from this restaurant.

We tried them for the first time last night and its was ok. I had beef chow mein, and whilst it was nice it wast very flavorsome. The mini veggy spring rolls were really good though. My husband has the chicken hong king style and he enjoyed it. Delivery was swift, the delivery person was nice and polite. And it was slightly cheaper than some places around Portsmouth.

Wow, what a hidden Gem (I won’t say pearl) we were looking for a restaurant that delivered and happened to choose the Oriental Pearl as they had a good selection on their menu and offered Malaysian food, which you don’t get too often. After selecting the food and a little problem in ordering it (the set menu has the option to select any Main dish(s) on the menu as one of the selections which was a little unclear, so it led to a quick look at what to choose) we were told 30-40 minutes for the food to arrive. Normally when you hear this and based on previous experience this means anything from 45 minutes to 1½ hour. Wow were we wrong! 15 minutes later we got a ring of the bell and the food was here, Piping hot. The portions were standard of this type of take away and the food looked inviting. What was the real surprise being the taste. The food that said it was spicy and hot (chili) was and all of the food tasted wonderful. SO much so that one of our group who is Malaysian, said that the rice was just like her mother used to make, you can’t get a better recommendation than that for authentic food. We have a new regular take away when we are in the Portsmouth area now and it is the Oriental Pearl.

Ordered spring rolls, foo young with fried rice plus prawn crackers and curry..Took the standard 10 minutes to prepare....Was hot and it tasted ok...They ask to you want a small or large rice......Get the small ....I even left some as I was as full as a bucket.....Its not cheap (nearly £13) but it was good quality....

We use the Pearl as a local takeaway. The Singapore dishes are stupendous and really good value. I always order too much so there's some left for breakfast....

No customer service, the girl argued with my partner about the order we'd placed with no interest in trying to resolve our complaint. Won't be using this Chinese again
