Due to another local pub's kitchen we were recommended Chequers. The other pub phoned through to Chequers to let them know we were coming. Extremely genuine warm welcome from the chef and the lady managing front of house. Ambience is very cosy indeed. The meals were well presented, cooked with care and attention to detail. Decent value for the service and meals we received. If we're in the area again will certainly visit once again.

What a lovely village pub! My husband and I went to this gorgeous and historic village pub for dinner after completing the circular walk from Lamberhurst to Scotney. The pub had a warm and inviting atmosphere, the owner and staff were very welcoming and we enjoyed a delicious meal (which was very reasonably priced, especially given the high standard of the food) and very tasty local beers. We will definitely be going back again.

Popped down on a Monday evening for dinner having seen the recent takeover by the new owners. We were made to feel very welcome from all the staff and the pub looked great inside, even with the improvements that are ongoing . The food was really nice, very generous portions, we had a kids meal as well which our 3 year old enjoyed. Everything was very fresh and the bread and butter pudding was delicious. The owners were very friendly and we will definitely be back at some point

Had lunch outside today, enjoying the welcome sunshine. Ordered Fish & Chips & a ploughman’s. Both were delicious. The fish and chips were generous and piping hot. Amazing pub - exactly what a 600 year old village pub should be! Great beers and ciders (including Hawkstone, which is very rare to see), and the food is incredible. Juiciest chicken I've ever had. The chef even came and had a chat with us on his break, and it turns out he has something like 30 years experience, which makes a lot of sense! Will 100% be coming back in the summer for the riverside beer garden.

Newly refurbished superb 15th century local pub - warm and friendly with cosy fireside seating - great food whether you are after a steak or a pint of prawns. Lovely big riverside garden. In the heart of the pretty village of Lamberhurst - walking distance to the beautiful Scotney Castle. This Inn has been the centre of village life since c1410 and Rich and Becks are continuing the tradition of a wonderful welcome with great beers and homemade food.

I visited this delightful pub with family who had recommended we go here because the food was so good. They weren't wrong! I had a mushroom burger for the first time ever, it was absolutely delicious, tasty and the crispy batter was scrumptious. I would definitely recommend this dish. The fish and chips looked amazing too, as did the other burgers. We all thoroughly enjoyed our chosen dishes. The different largers/beers on offer were a welcome change loo too. We came to stay over the weekend and were incredibly disappointed with the cleanliness of the room. The toilet was dirty, there was a used towel behind the bathroom door, a discarded jumper on the floor and large amounts of dust all over the side tables. Chose this place as a seniors' 30% discount advertised on website and menu online looked good, lots of choice. Sadly on arrival - at opening time - all the chef's plates (like steak etc) were unavailable, leaving just a choice of three burgers, fish and chips, three salads and a few sandwiches. Waitress also advised that the 30% discount is for a smaller portion size. This really is misleading. A discount should be that - not pay less to get less. That's not a discount. In the end I chose a chicken burger with the discount and was shocked to receive half a plate of oily chips, a big bun and literally two bite size pieces of chicken deep fried and greasy! I didn't want to complain as I was with friends and it would spoil the occasion. I will never spend money in this pub again. Misleading advertising and poor quality food. Friend who had the beef burger seemed happy enough. Friend who had the feta salad said it was OK, but the pitta was hard like cardboard! Only two other customers in the whole pub despite being school holidays - locals voting with their feet maybe? No atmosphere. Ladies WC area was tiny, a right squeeze to get in and out if someone else comes in, the hand dryer doesn't work (no back up paper towels either) and had to ask for loo paper even though the pub had literally just opened up a few minutes before hand so why wasn't this checked? Young bar tender / waitress was polite but no-one senior in charge. Management needs to up its game or this place might fold.

I think the chef must have been off this bank holiday Monday. Everything that we had that was deep fried was over fried- calamari that was rubbery inside a charred, crumbly batter, fish-fingers so overdone the fish inside had disappeared and nothing but blackened batter remained (the dog enjoyed them though) and really dodgy chips, again over fried. The setting is lovely and we’ve been there a couple of times before and the food was fine. But today…. It was rough!

We discovered this place on our way home from Rye 3or4 years ago. They did only gluten free fish and chips and being coeliac I was thrilled and tried them. THEY ARE THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS EVER - even if you dont need gluten free!! Really the best! We just called in again this evening and it is still as brilliant as ever. Jemima is a huge asset to the place - she could not have been more charming and helpful. The chef even went out of his way to wear gloves and make sure the food was cooked in quite separate oil. I dont expect restaurants to go out of their way to accomodate my allergy, but it is always a bonus if there is something I can have freely. Even more astonishing then that a chef in a busy pub restaurant should take such care - thank you SO much! I dont know what their batter recipe is but they should patent it and market it! Cannot recommend the Chequers Inn highly enough and we will keep calling in on the way home from Rye! Thank you to all the staff!

We had lunch earlier today. Kids meals of fish and chips, and burger and chips were ok, and one of the party enjoyed the tartlet. However, two of us had adult burgers, and we have been both feeling unwell since we left the pub. My burger patty was under seasoned, cheddar cheese tasted like old socks, coleslaw was not seasoned at all. Half pint of non alcoholic beer smelled off, as if the glass was not dried properly. Very disappointed. I don't think I'll be coming back.

We arrived 20 mins early and was shown straight to our table in a completely empty restaurant at 7 o'clock on a Saturday night. My wife ordered the £16 "pie" which was a pot of chicken that had a reheated piece of pastry on it which had now turned into more of a biscuit. Served with what I believe to be smash. The chef/(owner I guess) was quite sure it wasn't so I can only assume they're reheating their mash in the microwave creating a tasteless dry slop with a skin on. I had £22 chewy steak served with no steak knife and a watery sauce. Save your money and just get your microwaved food from wetherspoons

So disappointed with Christmas dinner: We should have started with a glass of champagne, after being asked three times if we had had the fizz it eventually turned up with the starter to be told they had run out of champagne glasses so we had it in wine glasses: the second course the bonbons were cold: the main arrived but we had to ask for cutlery and had to clear the table of glasses ourselves: when dessert arrived we were given a fork only to be told they had run ou of spoons: I’ve been eating and drinking in the Chequers for the past 30 years and never known service this bad: I’ve had better service from a greasy spoon cafe: so disappointed as we booked ages ago and were so looking forward to a nice meal: sorry to say you have lost mine and Nala’# custom and I would be surprised a few others: Marcus

Colin and Anne-Marie - on our way from Bexley to Bexhill we turned off the A21 to escape the torrential rain and standing water making our journey treacherous. Imagine our relief when we saw The Chequers Pub and Kitchen in Lamberhurst offering lunch and a warm and cosy shelter from the storm. We parked the car in the well appointed car park accessed by the side of the pub and rushed in. We were warmly welcomed by Helen and settled in the fresh and comfortable dining area. The artwork on the walls were fun and intriguing making for conversation over Lunch. We ordered drinks and ordered from the lunch menu. I had sausage and mash and Colin had flat ironed steak. The food was beautifully cooked and presented, the staff are welcoming and friendly and prices are competitive. I know we will be hurrying back as soon as we can. After 32yrs we returned to the chequers for lunch with the family, my parents owned the chequers until 1991 and I will honestly say the Sunday roast was excellent but please for the love of a beer or two give the staff more glasses, being told that I couldn't have my drink due to shortage of glasses when we are not overly busy is poor and extremely embarrassing for your staff so help them deliver a better service please. To all the staff working thank you for excellent service and I did rate your changes highly ie Bottle room into a snug with a TV Snooker room changed for more seating. Spent another lovely lunch at The Chequers. Went with friends, we ordered three different dishes and everyone was highly delighted, Mine was in honour of the Chelsea Flower Show, I’m sure, and honestly tasted as delicious as it looked beautiful.

Absolutely amazing food , friendly staff especially South African owner . I’ve eaten all over the world and would say this is now in my top 5 places to eat purely for the quality of food . Not even a great fan of Thai food until I ate here , blew my mind ! Quality ingredients and flavours , plentiful portions . We were family of 5 and all of us felt the same . Congrats to the team and we will def be back soon .

Head the hype around Tallow few years back. The food was stunning, perfectly presented, with a balance of flavours that made each dish stand out and sing. First course I had lambs sweetbread, glaze and pickle. Worked fabulously together. Mains - I usually would go for meat 9/10. Instead - Goats curd , hazel nuts, chanterelle mushrooms and a sauce (Their description is much better) Wow! what an incredible combination of flavours. Dessert - cremeux , meringue and chocolate (really badly explained by me). Sensational. Tells your friends , tell your granny, places like this need to stay open forever.

Good prices. Friendly staff. One regular who is so annoying stops me from going back.
