Ghastly !!! Dry rock dry haddock ,batter over cooked and tasteless definitely frozen fish ,tasted and looked old chips were greasy ,fatty and dry ,awful

Dreadful. Tatty and untidy. Chips were soft and looked as if they were reheated. Such a shame as when it was the Square Fish restaurant it was lovbely. Will not go again

Maz Really poor mate wife asked for 3 pieces of southern fried chicken and got 2 pieces smaller than what you would get from Aldi . Then unwrapped the large cod and it was a sardine. Wont be coming there again, TERRIBLE

Maz and his team at Chequers Lenham provided us with over 70 boxed fish and chips for our D Day celebrations at Leeds Village Hall last week. Beautiful tasting fish and chips and delivered to us by Maz still hot. Amazing great service. Everyone happy. My Oh My, this was my first visit, the chips were horrible, like they were left for hours then fried again. They were mixed with some fresh ones to disguise them. I visited just before 2pm, maybe I got the bad batch.

Fantastic food, great coffee and the staff were very welcoming and friendly! Definitely will be going back again soon.

Sorry to say, but chips looked like they’ve been left over from yesterday , hard and bitty . Full of eyes . Can’t believe they’ve got the cheek to serve them .

Ordered a 1/4 burger with small chips, both of which were not worth the prices being charged... which is even worse as it was only after the fact i discovered i was actually over charged from what was actually listed on the board. (charged £9.95, actual price should have been £8.50) Very disappointing after a long day out walking I was hoping for something much better when i was recommended this place by a local I encountered.

We go to lenham a lot to see the mrs mum and go to the bakery in the day but in the evening some times we stop here for fish and chips or a kebab there shish chicken is out of this world and there fish is so fresh as well they also have a restaurant in there and one next door for different foods worth a visit

Sadly disappointing - large cod was anything but and mostly batter and at nearly £10 for the fish alone it really should be better. I’m afraid it’s gone downhill and best avoided until they get their mojo back

What a fall from grace. Shockingly bad! Laughable the price they charge for the fish which contains more batter than fish. The batter isn't even nice!

this is an excellent fish restaurant with a good menu and good prices. We ate in it was clean and tidy nice staff, food was very good .

Lately every order seems to be incorrect. Last order there was no salad on my kebab. Previous order to that we were charged for kebab and chips and we only ordered kebab. Such a shame because in the past this place has been amazing.

We have been coming here almost weekly for many years and this will be our last visit. The food has been getting progressively worse over the last months but we have continued out of long-standing loyalty. Today we were served with absolutely the worst fish and chips I have ever tasted: the cod was not only tough and lacking freshness but also massively greasy with floppy, undercooked and even raw batter. We are not prepared to accept the complacent attitude of the management towards its customers and shall take our business elsewhere to a more consistent and professional establishment.

Our first time trying this chippy and we were definitely hesitant after reading some of the reviews, I wish we had taken notice: £20.30 for 1 x large cod, 1 x medium cod and a so called large portion of chips that was basically a portion of mashed chips, the fish was a little dry and the batter greasy. Gone are the days when a chippy would leave the fish to stand so the grease can drain off, The pictures tell the story of the chips, not sure how a business can serve up this crap at these prices. Unfortunately we won't be back for a second go.

The quality of the chips and cod were not good and I requested sauce on my kebab but none was added. For the price it really is not worth it.

Having arrived at our Hotel to late for evening meal we were signposted to ‘The Chequers Fish Bar’. What a fantastic reception, the staff being extremely helpful, and shown fish sizes so you could choose depending on your appetite, again the same applied for chip portions. We even asked if we could have bread and butter but with Real butter to which they gave us. We gave five stars as the service, food and Banter we had with a member of staff was was above and beyond your normal Fish&Chip establishment. Well done and keep up the good work.

This is our regular chip shop but tonight's chips were really bad. We have had many good take aways over the years but tonight there were so many bad bits in the chips at least a third or more had bad bits. Didn't see the usual people behind the counter. I don't know if the place has changed hands or if the usual manager (owner?) is away but when he was there it was never this bad. Good chips with no bad bits should be the minimum standard. What is going on?

Really friendly staff and amazing food! Husband had fish and chips and I had an English breakfast.. would definitely recommend.

Just had the best seafood linguine. Best Scollops ever, in fact everything to die for. Chef Fabian was passionate about his food using local ingredients. All staff welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend xxxxxx

Visiting friends we had Fish and chips for supper from here. Large portions all cooked fresh to order. Friendly staff, clean environment and plenty of parking near by.

We moved to the area 6 mths ago from where we had 2-3 excellent fish & chip shops.The same cannot be said for this one unfortunately.We have had fish & chips almost weekly but the quality goes up & down (mostly down)I suspect the lack of competition in the area may give them a don`t care attitude to the quality of the food the serve out.Never eaten inside, always taken away so by the time you get it home to find out its not that good it would be a hassle to return it.Place needs a kick up the backside in my opinion or competition.

We love the location, on a sunny day grabbing some comfort food and sitting on a bench in lovely lenham.. it’s a shame that there is no where else for miles around because the food is average and soo very expensive compared to other chip shops ie small chips which are really small for £2

My husband and I have visited this fish and chips takeaway a few times the first time we wasn't that impressed another day as we was passing by and we was hungry we tryed it again still not happy the third and LAST time a couple of weeks ago once again as it was the nearest on our way home we stopped in again big mistake on each occasion the cod is over cooked even though we asked for large it was small but still charged for large and the chips were discusting as if the cooking oil was old and the staff appeared to be under pressure no customer service NEVER AGAIN

We had a family get together and found the perfect venue. The restaurant is modern, great service and the French chef delivered. Fresh Mussels, Sea Bass with Jerusalem Artichoke. The superb wines are are from local Kent Vineyards. On the list for another visit

I am not particularly big fan of fish and chips because of generally very average quality. Not so for The Chequers is one of the best I know. I live nearby and there is a large car park.

Nothing fancy just a straight forward fish and chip shop but a very good one. Excellent piping hot fish and chips my only complaint is that I couldn't eat all of the chips. Definitely call in again next time we're driving down the A20.

I go to collect a takeaway and each time am pleased with the service. Lovely happy staff and so onlingingy!

I phoned through a large order for around 10 people and it included fish, sausage, battered sausage and lots of chips. When I got the food back to the office, it was still hot and everyone enjoyed their lunch.

Stopped over for 3 days with work and visited the chip shop yesterday food was amazing and the pretty girl with glasses was so helpful and friendly

This is our regular fish and chip shop and usually have delicious chips. However last night the chips were inedible. They smelt strange and tasted worse ( sort of burnt taste with odd aftertaste) and had clearly been cooked in oil that had not been replaced for some time. We didn't see anyone we recognised behind the counter do wonder if the usual owner was away.

Great taste and good quality fish and chips. Great, fast service. Not really fan of take aways, but coming here for a second time.

This is a restaurant attached to a well established fish and chip shop and café. Not only does it sell fish and chips but it also sells other food at reasonable prices with an adequate wine list and drinks menu that promotes locally produced beers and wines.

A good advert when the Que is in the street , best cooked fresh most off the time, and you can eat in . and is still reasonable value for money. staff boys and girls always loverly ! see you next week.

This fish and chip shop is located in the heart of Lenham Square in the main car park. The fish and chips were tasty and fresh and the cafe breakfasts looked appealing.

After being in the area and trying a not so nice breakfast on weekend we decided to try here and was very impressed this is where you go if you want a “proper breakfast” Walked in and sat down the waitress was straight over to takeout order for drinks and food if we was ready which we was both went for the big breakfast. This was very nice and you get more than enough for your money very good value. They serve breakfast until 1.30 which is good on a Sunday as people generally get up a lot later. We will definitely be returning here anytime we fancy breakfast and can’t wait to try what else they have to offer on their menu for lunch and dinner sometime.

This is our local chippy which we use on a regular basis. Good quality fish and chips. Varied menu. Loads of car parking available too

This is an excellent fish and chip shop that I have used for years and never been disappointed. Very good take away can be had at all times, willing to provide nything up to the last order times.

We vist this fish and chip quite often food has always been excellent have to wait for it to be cooked but then you know it's fresh very good portions.

We ordered 3 x large cod and chips and a large doner. The batter on the cod was soggy the chips were under cooked and there is more meat on a sparrow than what we got in the doner kebab. Other reviews say that as the queue being so long it shows you how good the food is, but this rubbish because the shop is in a village and apart from the chinese takeaway which is also crap, they have a ready made catchment area for locals and unless you travel about 6 miles they are the only loca fish and chip shop.From my experience today, I will never go back regardless of how desperate I am.

Always have fish and chips as a treat when visiting in the area and every time Maz and his staff produce first class food. Beautifully fresh cod and lovely chippy chips. Really good-sized portions (we had two portions of chips between three of us, and there were plenty) and lovely crisp batter. Next time we will try the new restaurant.

Very small portion of chips even though I had medium, soggy batter on sausage, and the chips where like mush as they where squashed. Will never go there again

Since my last review 6 years ago I have been an ongoing customer on average once a month.I would have to say that the quality of the food has gone downhill. The fish is tasteless and the batter often soggy due to to oil content. The chips are never crispy and more often than not, soggy.

Always love the fish and chips as they cook the way we like it.

Tried the new restaurant area of the local Fish n Chip shop with a friend. Very impressed, lovely light and airy seating area, Ordered good old cod and chips, serving time was good and the meal well presented, and a generous amount served. enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere, service also very good, A little expensive compared to take away but I feel you got a little more plus the service..

We were staying nearby and had several takeaways. The freshly cooked fish is delicious, and the menu is varied. You can also eat in the restaurant.

Proper chippy coupled with a fancy new restaurant. Fresh and perfectly battered fish. Decent chips. Fresh to boot too. Back o' the net tactics.

The restaurant is a modern venue with beamed & vaulted ceiling. Friendly .staff and reasonably priced menu including a special for pensioners. Open all hours and no problem when we arrived at 2pm which is not always the case elsewhere.

We ate cod and chips in the fish bar and had cold chips with some hot ones mixed in. Extremely disappointed. Sauce bottles sticky. We were not asked if our food was ok on paying. We won't be going back.

Partner and I stopped off through a 10 mile hike in this quaint village to find this gem right in the heart of it. Lovely pure white chunky battered cod and perfect chips served by great staff

I had not been here before and so tried it out. True enough it is quite antiquated but the fish was cooked fresh and was piping hot. That's ok if you don't mind waiting. You can sit outside and enjoy the Summer sunshine! Cold drinks were lovely and cold. Staff very polite and helpful. A place to visit again I think.

Fish and chips very tasty, served very hot and staff were very efficient. They also had loads of choice if you were not a fish lover.

In this restaurant I found the best fish and chips in the area. Staff are very warm and friendly, always the fish has the same quality and taste.

Lovely fish and chips and other foods offered here open for breakfast coffees to take away and currently undergoing renovations to have a bigger restaurant out the back.

Lovely grub! But it is a wait at weekends. But like most foods if you have to wait it is normally worth it.

At short notice 15 of us went to this fish bar. The staff were very helpful moving the tables in a long row for us. The quality of the fish and chips were excellant. Plenty of fish and no sign of soggy batter. Cheerful staff and it was a pleasure to eat at this fish bar.

Friendly owner, young staff try hard to please. Never had a bad portion of chips here (lived in the area for over 7 years) ... prices average. Also good southern fried chicken - restaurant area very clean (with free daily redtops to read if you're stopping for a bite of lunch).

We are members of the local cycle group and regularly cal in here on a Saturday lunchtime for brunch. Always good value and we have always been well looked after.

I like to go into The Chequers where tables and seating allow you to eat in comfort. The food is excellent, and the staff are always very welcoming and friendly. My most recent visit was before noon on a Thursday, and my fish was quick to arrive (with salad in place of chips as requested) and very very tasty. Recommended!

If you want the best fish and chips, come to The Chequers Fish Bar. Always excellent quality fish, delicious chips and good-sized portions. I only eat fish and chips two or three times a year, and only from Maz and his team. Great service and a friendly welcome always. Ten out of ten!! (Also do great coffee)

Everything you'd expect from a traditional chippy plus a few extra dishes (kebabs, burgers) and great breakfasts and brunches from early. You can eat in and they also do proper espresso based coffees!

Lovely little cafe and fish and chip shop and well worth the detour to Lenham. In fact, the village is lovely as is a stay at the Dog and Bear opposite. We are regulars for fish n chips here and you won't find better!

We had cod and chips. Cooked to order, so fresh. Fish tasted very nice and was good quality, nice big, firm flakes of fish and nice batter. Highly recommend. Also good to order ahead if in a rush

Stayed in village overnight had meal late on it was excellent well cooked and staff friendly well worth it will use again when we visit area.

I had take away fish and chips tonight for three I ordered our food and then waited and waited, there was very little fish ready even though it was Friday night another guy came in ordered the same for one and he said to the manager I suppose I will have to wait. The girl told him the three fish were for her and he said that's alright more being done and took one of the ones for me and just looked at me knowing what he had done. Won't be using this place again and at 23 quid for the privilege no thanks.

This is one of the best Fish restaurants I have ever eaten in. The staff are attentive and professional and the food is always cooked from fresh. Good value too.

Local, friendly and efficient. It's got cues out the door on a Friday / Saturday evening and the food is good. It's not greasy like some fish and chip shops and the service is quick.

We love the fish & chips here. Reasonably priced, served promptly and parking is the most convenient that you will get.
