I have already reviewed this pub after a visit in 2019 but I have just returned and under new management it is even better. This is a traditional village pub with a traditional range of menu options. We were lucky as it was a beautiful sunny evening so we sat outside and ate as the sun went down. The staff were all really friendly and the food was very good. It would have been nice if they served at least one local beer but that is a minor point.

Myself and the other 2 mums all got together for Mother’s Day. We decided to go to The Chequers Inn as it was close to us all. Very easy to get to! We went for the carvery roast and it did not disappoint! The food was absolutely delicious, even the fussier eaters cleared their plates and had no criticism. You get a lot of food and definitely don’t leave feeling hungry. The deserts were £5 I believe and again you get a good portion. The owners were very good at talking to customers and making you feel welcome. Although our first time we felt as if we were regulars. Highly recommend, even if not for the food, just the ambiance is a great place to be! The owners are doing such an amazing job, we will definitely be coming back!

This was the first time we had been out to a restaurant in a year and a half and we had been recommended this place for Sunday lunches and we had a friend visit us from Wales so we decided to give the Chequers a go. Well what can I say we had a warm welcome from the landlord and land lady, we had a good choice of seating nice and soft and really comfortable. The menu didn't have a great choice but it offered home made typical pub food. But typical in taste it wasn't home made pies home made cottage pie and beef and vegetarian lasagne with attention to detail on flavour as good as any fine dining restaurant I've ever visited. The portions were large, hot and beautifully cooked and seasoned. Finished off with some nice puddings sticky toffee puddings and rhubarb crumble not sure how home made the sticky toffee puddings were though. We are all looking forward to our next visit as soon as possible. And I would recomend this pub and restaurant without hesitation. £75.00 for 3 of us with two rounds of drinks. Great value for money.

Waited a long time for this but it was so worth it. Sunday roast of beef, roast potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, cheesy leeks, green beans, julienne carrots, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, pigs in blankets (no parsnips so assume these were a substitute) and meat gravy with sticky toffee pudding and custard which I’ll have later on tonight. A little note on the top saying ‘it was lovely to have you back’. I can just turn that around and say it was lovely to have you back as well. Another top score of 10.

Living a few miles away I hadn’t yet been to the Chequers Inn but after reading reviews on my villages Facebook page and wanting a Sunday roast I rung up and ordered a take away one. Roast lamb, roast potatoes, carrots, French beans, broccoli, cauliflower, parsnip, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and gravy for under £10. Not knowing how big the portions would be l also ordered a side order of cheesy leeks (which you could have eaten as a meal in themselves) and a dessert (which is in the fridge for tomorrow). Total cost - £14.50. Score 10 out of 10. I will be going back.

Is it just us, or is it hard to find normal decent pub grub? Did the Chequers give us an exceptional meal? No. But was there anything to complain about? No. Is that unusual? Fairly. Maybe it is just us!Ended up here thanks to TripAdvisor reviews and hubby's desire for ham, egg and chips. After a drive through the beautiful Chilterns and past some equally beautiful pubs such as the Frog and Yew Tree, here we are at basically an average village pub. The garden table, complete with bird poo (it's ok, sh*t happens!) was complemented by the constant hum of the very nearby M40. Service (chatty), drinks and food were fine. Chips and my ciabatta and salad were fresh and tasty, ham was generous if not exceptional, but not unacceptable in any way. Pretty quiet for a Saturday lunchtime and a pretty wide (laminated, enough said) menu.Unless you were seeking an acceptable ham, egg and chips, this wouldn't be a destination pub (especially with the local competition), but you could certainly do a lot worse.

We popped in to the Chequers Inn for lunch and overall was fairly satisfied. It is a lovely location, the staff are friendly but had a bit of an issue with the food - one of us had a roast beef sandwhich - presentation was excellent - coleslaw, crisps, salad with dressing however the sandwhich was caked in butter and the beef was too thick and tough. Someone else had the tuna sandwich and again everything was fine except for the filling. There are varying cans of tuna and unfortunately this was the slightly "mushy", tasteless type. Having said all that,I will give it another go.....

This is not a 'gastro pub' but if you are looking for an old fashioned pub which serves a traditional range of bar foods this is wonderful. We went for lunch and there were dogs under the bar stools, a raging fire and a really warm welcome. We sat at the back with my elderly father and had burgers & chips with a beer and it was wonderful. We were early and the first table there but it took a while for the food to arrive, a good sign as it was evidently being cooked for us. The chef brought the food out and then came back and checked it was OK. If you want something fancy this is not the place but I loved it!

Lovely old pub with beautiful surrounding area however, i have visited this pub for a sunday roast with my husband, i ordered roast pork. The food was served out on a cold plate with very grisly pork and as i began eat the veg half of it ended up on the floor as it was so uncooked i couldnt get my fork into it! However, the food was well presented and had a good menu with plenty of variety for all customers, however, i did feel that the food was overpriced along with the drinks that were on offer. Service was good and we enjoyed the majority of our visit. However, i attended the common event and was thirsty for a pint at the chequers, however, unfortunately for some unknown reason the pub was closed and with many others also wanting a pint we headed down to the nearest local for a drink, i found this very disappointing as this would have been a great opportunity for good trade on such a sunny and busy day, this is a great family pub but does need some areas of improvment

My friend and I sat in the well kept garden and had one of the best pub lunches I've tried at a reasonable price (the bubble and sausage and pork belly we had were truly excellent).I hadn't expected to find a place of this quality so far off the beaten track, and I'm amazed at how far its turned around in such a short time. We sought out this pub on the understanding that it did a good range of food but when we walked in we found ourselves to be the only lunchtime customers and no meals of any kind to be available. We were told this was because we've 'only just found a chef'. All we could do was enjoy a pint (from a very good range of Fullers and Gales ales on pump) and some crisps. No menus were on display anywhere. We asked if this was all perhaps because it had recently been taken over, but the solitary barman said that wasn't the case. He offered no further explanation or conversation. There was complete silence, not even any background music or radio to break up a rather eerie atmosphere. This pub features in the AA Pub Guide 2015. That's why we made a special trip to reach it, on this experience we couldn't recommend others should do the same.

High Wycombe Hash House Harriers run every Tuesday evening from pubs within a 10 mile radius on Wycombe and rank them according to Beer, Non-Beer, Food, and Atmosphere (or hash-mosphere as we like to call it!)Beer: 3 decent ales on + a couple of ciders including ‘The Devil’s Own’…or something like that, and at almost 9%, who’s arguing?! Seafarers from Gales Brewery (£3.40) was lovely - light but full-bodied, very quaffable 3.6%, London Pride (£3.60) was adjudged ‘very good’ and ESB (£3.80) similarly so, although it ran out just after we got there. Food: ‘Fantastic chippings!’ ‘Nuff said really - great home-cooked chips served along with bowls of cheese and bacon bits. Hash-mosphere: Lovely front bar, big wood burner, nice rear area all to ourselves, low beams, atmospheric lighting - all in all, very agreeable indeed. The landlady/barmaid/person behind the bar was widely complimented on her ability to serve 3 people at once, with the maximum of efficiency and the minimum of fuss. Parking might be a bit of an issue on a narrow country road, but with such a haven of warmth and coziness inside to aim for, who cares? Plus, if you’re drinking ‘The Devil’s Own’, you shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a car anyway!

Having eaten in this pub quite a few times in the past with both family and friends, but not recently, I was very disappointed by my visit this evening. It seems to have changed ownership and has definitely gone downhill. Previously, the menu had a good, varied selection; now it is very limited and uninspiring as well as overpriced for the food on offer. Food very mediocre, although it was very hot. I could have stayed at home and had as a better meal for a fraction of the cost! Will not be visiting again in the future.

I took a dear friend of mine to this local pub which, when we last visited in May, did some fairly decent food and had quite a nice ambience. On arrival, this being a Friday night, I was surprised that the atmosphere was absolutely dead and the place smelt vaguely like a farm yard - this should have been my first set of clues! We were one of two sets of diners at 8pm and though the food served to my friend was reasonable (but not that great for the price), the rib eye steak I ordered was thinner than shoe leather and didn't taste an awful lot better - pepper sauce was not served as requested but some spirit tasting substitute which was fairly foul was. On enquiring with the waitress as to where the very nice Maitre D was that had served us so well on my previous visit, she advised that not only had he left but so had the Chef and in very short order.Having completed the meal, we moved to the front of house bar area to order some refreshments. This was occupied by a gentleman who from small talk whilst ordering our drinks indicated he was the landlord and who carried on sipping at the bar while several of his very drunken clientele proceeded to play fight quite vigorously and engage in expletives that would certainly not be suitable for anyone considering this as a family venue.Since we found this behaviour unacceptable and extremely uncomfortable we moved to the outdoor seating area to finish the drinks we had ordered but sadly we were confronted with more of the same. This is very definately not a family venue!

On first impression the Chequers seems to be a delightful country pub, set in the rolling Chilterns, overlooking a common, with a pretty little garden front and rear, almost a picture perfect country pub. I say almost because it's only when you go in the front door you understand the pub has two sides to it. I have been staying locally for work and like to venture out to avoid becoming a hotel based bore and a colleague mentioned in passing about this pub. It's got a great atmosphere he said so on a warm June night I popped in to see.The first thing you notice is the low ceilings, dark woodwork and centrally located bar with a range of ales, and the standard lagers - all good so far. The next thing you notice are the front of house staff....Here is where it all went a little bit wrong for me.Now I am a man of the world, ex forces, been about the block a bit, seen some stuff, but the language that came from this young lady (lady used loosely) was quite something. Not directed at me I might add, but at a small group of baseball cap wearing lads who were sat at a table near a dart board mounted on an alarming wine cork wall. I won't repeat what was said, but after asking for a pint of Fullers Pride, the "Banter" continued.whilst my beer was served and paid for, not a please or a thank you in sight, just a range of bawdy expletives mainly prefixed with the letter F.I retired to a corner by a wall mounted TV where a man, who I presumed to be the landlord sat at the end of the bar, a 1664 in front of him, interested, it seemed only in the TV, with an occasional look into the cellar and a more than occasional trip outside for a smoke.it was quite retro in as much as the loud lads in the corner were eating meals out of a plastic looking basket, something I had not seen since the 70's but it looked like food from the 70's too and the smell of cooking coming from the kitchen was that of deep fried food.It was a busy little pub, specifically for locals it would seem, with people popping in and out with many hellos, alright's and (I kid you not) "what the fuff do you want's" from the delightful, if not loud thing behind the bar. The bar staff swapped for a little while so potty mouth could go for a fag "I'm gasping I ain't ad a fag for an fuffing hour" and a blonde, shoeless young girl took over, she did not swear, but she did turn some music up and danced a bit freakily behind the bar.I had another beer and my change was delivered with the new bar girl actually sliding in her socks across the bar....surreal. I asked to see a menu, but was told we are only doing snacks and was shown a scrappy printed piece of paper, which I took to be the basket meals being eaten by the basket cases, so I decided to abstain and had a bag of nuts instead. It may have been an off night, but this pub that promises from first impressions to have it all, seemed more like a rundown seaside/town pub where the punters, staff and management all appeared to have given up.

An honest pub, a county pub, a good menu, not too complicated or gastro. Great for food, lunch is brilliant, dinner is top notch, had the best rib eye steak here. Brilliant fun if you just want a drink too, not too serious a place, just how pubs used to be and just how all pubs should be

I love this pub for lunch, I always go with my team and we have a really nice time there. The garden in huge, you only have to order your food inside and enjoy the sunshine, in summer of course:)

From the moment we stepped into The Crown we were given a lovely warm welcome! We took a table next to a warming fire which was much appreciated due to being -5 outside. Food was fabulous both choosing a main & dessert. Service impeccable. Really relaxed, friendly & nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be visiting again. Fantastic!

Had my fathers wake here after his funeral. Staff were very accomadating, pub itself is great like an old country pub with fires and lots of little hidden corners here and there making it very cosy and homely. We had the aftermoon tea menu which was great, i imagine the meals here are even better Highly recommend
