The Chequers in Dartford

Couldn't thank the staff enough for accommodating my pary of 5 at the last minute, for a 60th birthday lunch. This after being let down by another pub on a very rainy day.This was the last day of dining outside until restrictions were lifted and they housed us in a beautifully recently built, cabin like, shelter. The food on the restricted menu was excellent.

We had a great afternoon and the staff were great. I look forward to coming again. Kelly and Ruby were very friendly. Thanks guys 😊

Best place around ! I came here last Saturday for lunch, I can’t praise the staff, food and atmosphere enough . Especially the landlady ,who made the effort to came round to check if everything was ok ,she went out of her way to make us feel like it’s a home and a family run business. It was extremely clean and COVID friendly , I would recommend a visit for sure . Keep up the good work guys !

Landlord and Landlady seemed have very bad customer service and overhead them shouting at the staff, whom did a great job. Overall a poor experience and will not be returning to such a pub that I thought had good word of mouth.

During lockdowns this lovely place has been able to continue delivering its delicious food to your door, roasts etc, cream teas; so plentiful and deli outs. And not onlybthat, they have been helping out the local community in various ways especially those who have been isolating and often free of charge. It is a great pub during normal times and I hope it rebounds when this is over.

A party of 6 went for lunch on Sunday, very nice,the girls worked very hard, as they have to serve the drinks as well,All smiling behind even though they were rushed of there feet,nothing was to much for them. Always first class, every time I go,Cheers Girls!

We was sitting around a table, a group of girls catching up. Was so shocked to be told by the bar maid to be quiet. We ate our food and decided to leave as we was so disappointed in this behaviour. The landlord asked what was wrong we told him what happened , he said ' if you want to be loud go to dartford centre ' at this point we was now really upset, another friend said this isn't how you should speak to customers, he claimed we had told his bar maid to shut up but it was the other way round. Now at this point he's shouting at my friend and this lady im assuming the land lady came over, grabbed my friends arm and said 'get out my f***ing pub. My friend was so upset especially with this current covid situation that she had assaulted her, let alone touch her. The food was lovely cannot fault that, but to be told to be quiet in a pub is ridiculous bare in mind at the point we was told to be quiet we was taking selfies.

Went for Sunday lunch with my family at the Chequers in South Darenth and it’s been a long time since we’ve had such a fantastic Sunday lunch. I had the chocolate indulgence and ice cream for dessert which did not disappoint. The staff were amazing. We will definitely be back.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch today it was fabulous! Lovely and fresh followed by sticky toffee pudding! Lovely atmosphere despite present circumstances poor ladies having to wear them masks can’t be easy. Well done all.. 👌🏻

Visited today. Generous, fresh, hot, Sunday roast. Plenty of veg. Exceptional staff with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Vegetarian option not great. Be nice to see a roast with all the trimmings + nut roast rather than a completely different meal. It's not that hard. Bisto is V and easy to cook roast pots and yorkies in veg oil. Apart from that (for meat eaters) no complaints and will return

Excellent pub. Called in for a drink and lunch, my husband had the steak and kidney suet pudding and I the daily special chicken in mushroom and sauce, fabulous food and service. Highly recommend

My wife & I decided to have a meal on Bank Holiday Monday. We found this country pub to be well organised to be covid safe. The staff gave us a warm welcome & showed us to our table. Both our meals arrived piping hot. I chose the fillet steak which was the best steak meals I have had in a long time. My wife enjoyed her scampi & chips. The Chequers deserves its 5 star rating. We have eaten here on many occasions & have never been disappointed. Fantastic pub, brilliant staff, fabulous food.

Had lunch here in the garden, delightful pub with nice outdoor patio and garden. Food lovely, plentiful and served promptly.

Surly staff and very overpriced. Frozen chips and at about on average £13 for ham, egg and frozen chips. Not good.

Great pub, 4 of us had a really nice meal (burgers, gammon and chicken wrap) in the garden area. We were able to open a tab which made getting drinks/food so much easier. The service was excellent and we were given a genuinely warm welcome from Ruby, Tam and Dill. Highly recommended and will definitely be visiting again soon.

Sunday 19th JulyMy partner and I came for a Sunday lunch. The pub was so pretty and the staff provided a good service. They had good social distancing measures in place and were taking Track and Trace details. The food itself was amazing! Such a huge portion of great tasting food for a very reasonable price. Two roasts with drinks and crisps to start for £30!

Booked a table for a few beers on a Friday evening. Exceptionally well organised for social distancing. Screens at the bar and tables distanced correctly. Very friendly bar staff& very friendly and safe environment in these strange times.

Had a Birthday Lunch here today with the parents , the place was heaving , we didnt have a booking but the staff quickly fitted us in. Great team work and food amongst all that work there. Had a lovely meal of Gammon and Chips. Home cooked taste and great value for money. Never had a bad experience here. Friendly run and great value. Can't recommend it enough for lunch

I was a bit concerned when booking lunch for a group of friends, as I hadn't visited the Chequers before and online details were quite elusive, so I was unsure whether the place would be a hit or a miss. I needn't have worried because there was a warm welcome, good food and friendly efficient service, with the bonus of all available alongside a good range of beers and at a reasonable price. All included after three courses, modest drinks and a reasonable tip the five of us came out at £35 per head. Whilst we did not have to wait long between courses, we were not rushed at all and we were allowed to sit and chat long after we had finished eating.

Welcoming, warm and friendly. We arrived with 4 dogs for a last minute lunch after a walk. We were made to feel welcomed. Food and service was good and excellent.

Went here for a birthday meal for my father-in-law. The food was really enjoyable and the service very helpful. I can recommend the steak suet pudding and pork and apple sausages!

Just wanted to thank Dil, Dave, Nicola and the team at the Chequers for a superb hot buffet and afternoon tea for my Mums wake. Perfect surroundings food was wonderful. All our guests were really impressed with the service and choice offered. Thanks once again

My wife and myself went to the chequers a fortnight ago for a very enjoyable meal, the only thing my husband could complain about was that the toilet seat was missing in the gents. on visiting again last week again enjoyed an excellent meal... still no toilet seat, this as far as we are concerned rather lets the overall standard down, it cannot be that difficult to replace.

Was here for a birthday lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Duphonise Potatoes were having an identity crisis, not sure but they tasted more fried to me. Good food yes but not brilliant. Was assured Sticky Toffee pudding had dates in it, it didn't have one.

Great people, great atmosphere!! Will definitely be coming back and with a few more people! Whenever you need a place to come, this is the one!

Despite being the busy week-end before Christmas, a table was found. We were quickly served and the choice of Sunday Roast proved an excellent one. The beef and seven veg was properly cooked and in generous proportions. Efficient and friendly service topped off a most enjoyable visit.

We have been visiting the pub once a week for lunch for several weeks now. My mum is somewhat unsteady on her. Although getting in out is a bit of a problem we cope thanks to the helpfulness of the staff and their consideration. The food and service is spot on. The staff are extremely helpful and understanding with their approach to my mum. I am very grateful to them.

The Chequers Sunday Roast has to be the best to be found, hot plates, great atmosphere, brilliant staff and all round fantastic pub

We have visited the Chequers on a number of occasions recently and every time, without fail, we have come away saying what a great place it is, having had a lovely meal in great surroundings and having been so well looked after by such friendly helpful staff who make you feel very welcome and can't do enough for you. There is nothing not to like about The Chequers and we would absolutely recommend it to everyone.

We booked Sunday lunch for 4 and we all had the Sunday roasts. Very large portion sizes with a fantastic variety of veg - green beans, carrots, cauliflower, swede, broccoli, peas, stuffing, excellent roast potatoes and very tasty gravy! We were so full we couldn’t manage desserts and finished off with coffees. Very reasonably priced too, Our waitress was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Pub had a lovely homely feel about it, warm and inviting. The car park was full, but we were able to park in the side road. Will definitely be back.

We had a family meal (7 of us) to celebrate my Mum’s 90th birthday recently. Everything was excellent – the service was excellent, the food was excellent and the venue was excellent. Service was attentive, but not intrusive and we always received exactly what we requested. We were looked after wonderfully. Food was plenty, perfectly cooked and hot. Meals were served quickly and efficiently. Venue was comfortable, interesting and quiet. Perfect. Two of our party have special dietary requirements, vegetarian and dairy free. These were catered for perfectly. The staff had patience and understanding. We all enjoyed our meals. I definitely recommend this eatery and will definitely be going back – it is now my ‘go to’ place to eat!

Sunday roasts are excellent with big portions but they do not mention when ordering they do smaller ones at a cheaper price.

Went with a large group for lunch today. The food was really hot, home cooked, five sorts of fresh veg, tasty gravy followed by a really piping apple crumble and custard. Absolutely every thing you could want in a pub lunch. Excellent. Will certainly return.

Me and my family went here on Sunday. We booked a table in advance. We all had roast dinners which was amazing. Food was served nice and hot. The portion was big with lots of veg. This is probably my best roast dinner I've had in a pub. Food was served within 15 minutes. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend this pub and will defiantly be going back soon.

Went here for lunch today with my husband and sister in law. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and efficient. Food was very good, served hot and in good portions. An added bonus for me, being a Coeliac, is that they had a good understanding of Gluten Free and they also had a gluten free sticky toffee pudding to offer for dessert - so many places can only offer ice cream as a dessert for Coeliacs. It was all very reasonably priced as well. Will definitely visit again.

We went as a family group on a warm sunny Sunday. Service was excellent and staff very friendly. Food (Sunday roast) was very good quality and also great value. We sat outside after the meal for some drinks. The back garden is very attractive and spacious, with a flat paved area and below it, a big expanse of grass with tables and children's play area.

Looked in the vicinity for a garden pub for my fella to play whilst I enjoy my beer! This pub is tucked away and I struggled to find a parking place, but was worth the effort in the end. They had a lot of regulars, but the ladies behind the counter were fantastic and helpful - Menu was limited, ordered a steak, peppercorn sauce and beer and the fella had sausage and chips. Appreciated the service on a busy Sunday afternoon...

We had a really good time there with my friends. A relaxing place to spend your night with your friends.Totally recommended.

I have had many a pub roast but this pub is absolutely superb 3 of us had a separate meat I had beef that absolutely melted in my mouth my daughter had Gammon and my wife Lamb we had 6 different vegetables and roasts wilt defo be coming back for more because the staff make you feel special nothing was a problem well done Chequers

Visited today as we was out and wanted to eat. As usual very nice food, at a reasonable price. Food is always hot. Place is always clean and staff are always friendly. Steak and ale pie was lovely. Will be back again soon.

Living in Essex with my son and grandsons resident in Kent we arranged to meet up for a Father's day halfway between the two of our homes and opted for the Chequers and had booked a table by phone. What an excellent choice this was, Right from the outset we were impressed by how friendly and helpful the staff were. The four adults in our group each went for the Lamb Sunday roast. It came on a full plate with an array of vegetables. Four cleared plates were taken away and all agreed it was a fine meal. The only slight criticism being that the runner beans were slightly undercooked. We also ordered desserts and whilst waiting there coming my grandsons played in the rear garden where there is a small play areas as well as a raised open air dining area. We left having had a wonderful time.

I would give this place 5 for the friendliness of the staff, 4 for the surroundings as it has a lovely garden with play area for children. But only 2 for the food. The starters were o.k. I would say average. However, we all had burgers (6 of us) that were not good. It's annoying we didn't have a variety of meals as looking at other reviews it seems other diners are happy with the food. I looked back at the not so good reviews and it does seem that almost everyone criticises the burgers. They were more 'hammy' than 'beefy' and dry as a bone. Topped with a slice of processed cheese that was congealed on the top. I would guess they had been reheated in a microwave. The outsides were burnt. I left most of mine. At £11.95 they are not cheap either. The chips were nice. The coleslaw was a ridiculous item. Probably 2 teaspoons in a silly paper condiment pot. Hardly worth it and you needed it as the burger was so dry. Pity as the staff were lovely and friendly. I didn't say anything as it was my son's birthday and I didn't want to spoil it by making a fuss. Everyone said afterwards they didn't like their meal. A shame.

It does not change! , this is a really great place to eat ,drink and have a really fantastic family get together, the food is great the staff are great, what more could you ask for.

Managed to get a table last minute been trying for weeks but always booked up. Did not regret it. The best Sunday roast we have had. Hot, plentiful with so much variety of veg and perfectly cooked. Friendly and polite staff, highly recommended!

I visited this venue with 9 relatives for a reunion dinner. The location is remote and ideal. Ample parking. Food was the best and the service second to none. The menu selection was extensive and the food was cooked to perfection. The prices were very reasonable indeed, particularly for a charming location right by the River Darenth. I will certainly repeat this event when next visiting Kent.

We booked a table for 12 of us. The food was great and the staff are really friendly even though there was a lot of us the food was served really fast so none of us were waiting.

It had been a couple of years since we had been there and now realise that we should have returned earlier. Good selection of both draught beers and very nice wines. The food, lovely menu and the food was just excellent, with wonderful service by Tina. If you are in the area it certainly is worth a visit and I know my return will be pretty soon.

Needed to pick somewhere to eat for evening meal close to Bluewater and alighted on The Chequers. Very good choice: food was fine - substantial portions and plenty of options (maybe some of the specials could be on the main menu).. but service was the friendliest and most engaging welcome you can ever imagine.

We were a party of 12 celebrating a birthday. We picked this venue as it was quite central for family to get to and the menu looked lovely. We were not disappointed. The menu was lovely - steaks and mixed grill were delicious as was the gammon, lamb shank and scampi. The service was excellent and attentive. The dining area was cosy - in fact, other than another table of 4, we were the only other table there as we occupied most of the space. I would certainly dine there again.

We went here with our baby daughter early evening after reading the reviews, the hospitality and friendliness of the staff is great and they serve delicious hearty pub food and have a great choice in the menu

Went to the chequers with my family on Friday for lunch. It was wonderful. All of our meals were piping hot and very very tasty, the vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection. We all opted for the fruit crumble for desert and it was absolutely delicious. The staff are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. This place is an absolute gem so if you want to experience great home cooked food in a very welcoming environment this is the place to go. We will definitely all be going back !

Stumbled across this pub today and had a fantastic lunch. Warming and welcome staff with cosy atmosphere. Plenty of selection on the menu, mine and my husbands meals were delicious- would highly recommend. Can’t wait for our next visit.

Firstly I'd like to say that the bar staff was very welcoming, helpful and polite that being said if you want some decent food then look elsewhere our food was over cooked and clearly re heated before being served, we only ate it due to waiting for so long and being very hungry however we didn't finish our food. I was waiting to be asked if everything was ok with the food as you normally get asked when you eat out but we didn't, I now understand why!!!

I arrived on Sunday with my family (6 of us). The staff couldn’t of been more helpful! Even though we hadn’t of booked, they still managed to find us a table! All the staff was polite and our food was hot & fresh! After our meal we was checked on by the land lady who is also the chef! We couldn’t of asked for better service or better food. We will definitely be back! 100% recommended.

Went to the chequers for Sunday lunch and have to say what lovely home cooked food which you don’t get that often anymore. My roast dinner was massive lots of fresh veg and piping hot my partner had a burger which was char grilled and was delicious served with chunky chips and they were chunky and golden although the pub gets really busy the service is good would definitely recommend it for all age groups as has a kids menu with a smaller roast and the normal kids stuff give it a try you won’t be disappointed

Great Sunday lunches here always a safe bet but can get busy in the summer due to a great garden for kids with animals and a small river(Darenth?) running by the end of the Garden

Just had an excellent family lunch. Great roasts, plenty of roast potatoes and vegetables. Superb selection of old Englsih deserts. Would highly recommend for a Sunday lunch. Very friendly staff and excellent service.

Having stumbled across this wonderful pub/restaurant whilst searching online, we thought we would pop in on the offchance that we could get a table for a Saturday afternoon bite to eat. We were all so glad that we did.

Lovely Sunday roast with a good proportion of Vegetables. I would say this is a very well balanced lunch nutritionally! And lovely staff and environment.

We booked for the set Sunday traditional roast dinner menu. We took taxis so parking was not a problem. We were a party of 8 and were placed in the small restaurant at the back of the pub. This was cosy and had a good intimate atmosphere. Our waitress took drink orders from us and did this all through the meal as well as taking and serving our meal orders. This menu did not include starters so we went straight to mains. The choice was various roasts, steak, sausage and mash or a veggie option. We all had different roasts and additional meat was available for just £1. By prior arrangement one of the party had poached salmon. All meals were served plated and came with a large range of vegetables. This was my only negative point as not everybody liked all the veg provided. The meals were huge and delicious and everyone enjoyed their food. Desserts where traditional puddings like spotted dick and syrup sponge and again all were delicious. Staff were very attentive throughout the meal and friendly as well. We would not hesitate to return and regard the Chequers as a hidden gem.

Nice cosy environment, was recommended by a friend and thought I'd give it a go. I had Roast Beef, it was lovely, and filled me up nicely. The test if the family had Roast chicken which they all enjoyed.

We had a family get-together for lunch and it was a Saturday so I was expecting it to be quite busy but I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very friendly and it was a nice cosy atmosphere. The children loved the garden and there is a nice decked area with tables and chairs. We all ordered something different from the menu and everyone enjoyed what they had, including the children. I had a lamb and mint pudding pie with mash and vegetables, delicious!! Some of the group had a dessert and the children had ice cream. Great choices on the menu, good value for money and cooked to perfection! I will definitely return.

Excellent service - the staff were very thoughtful and accommodating for our 91 year old mum who enjoyed her lunchtime excursion here so much. The food was great with an excellent array of vegetables and lovely traditional deserts.

Last night 17 of us went along to The Chequers to celebrate my 70th birthday. We arrived at 7pm and had an absolutely lovely evening with friends and family. The food as always was served delicious and hot! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they were all very welcoming and happy to make sure we were looked after. We have been quite a few time for lunch, Sunday lunch, and also for evening meals. We have never been disappointed with the food or service. Thank you for making sure we had a lovely evening, which I am still getting emails saying how nice everything was. Thanks again...

Super Sunday lunch with friends, The Chequers is a Gem in a lovely location. Came here with friends we all thoroughly enjoyed our roast lunch including pudding, great choice on menu if you don't want full roast. Excellent value for money and very comfortable. Excellent service, food cooked to perfection best Sunday lunch out we've all had in a long time. We will be back, highly recommended.

Although living in south east London most of our lives, we made our first visit to this lovely little pub for lunch today. What a wonderful find.

We (2 couples) have just returned home from a weekend visiting National Trust properties in North Kent. As we stayed in Dartford we visited The Chequers on our first evening and enjoyed it so much we returned on our second (last) evening. The food was excelllent and cheaper than 'Up North' where we live. The staff were all very friendly and made us feel so welcome that I would have no hesitation in recommending it and would certainly return if ever in the area again.

The best Sunday lunch. Hot plates and loads of veg. Recommend booking as always busy. Staff lovely as always.

Whilst visiting my elderly father in law in Dartford we decided to have Sunday lunch out (last minute). Having never visited this pub /restaurant before we managed to get a table at 2pm. From the moment we arrived to the time we left, the staff could not do enough to make us feel welcome. My father in law was on crutches so they moved our reserved table closer to the door so he didn’t have to walk far. Three of us had Sunday lunch ( choice of beef, chicken, lamb or gammon) and the other person had sausage and mash. Wow!!!! All the meals were superb, piping hot, cooked perfectly and delicious. The price was very reasonable and the portions large. The staff were all so professional and genuinely friendly. Thank you to everyone involved. We genuinely did not know anyone there and have not visited before.... this place is a gem and we will definitely be back. Highly recommended to others.

We visited this pub for Sunday lunch on bank holiday weekend and were very lucky to get in as there was 12 of us but I have to say what a lovely roast and such an inviting and friendly atmosphere, the staff were so lovely, we had a super time thank you. We will definitely be returning.

Service pretty good and food good quality at a reasonable price.Like to see some more French or Italian red wine though, choice bit limited. Always get a good meal here with access to large pub garden, ideal for families.

This is a very friendly pub with a lovely atmosphere. The staff a helpful and the food is fab. There is a large garden area and is family friendly. The only grumbles are, the front restaurant is quite cramped and the rear restaurant gets very warm in the summer months.

My husband and I popped in for Sunday lunch and they were able to accommodate us despite not having a booking which was great.

Very good food, attentive staff. Booked a table inside and explained we had a dog, it was no problem, they chose a lovely table away from other diners and near the door to the back garden.

Had a drive out to this pub, nice location & friendly staff but ‘light bites’ were a bit overpriced at around £8 for a sausage baguette and same for a jacket potato & tuna mayo, which was a shame. Menu a bit limited, although it was busy midweek so clearly popular. Quality of food could have been better for the price. Nice garden though.

Booked The Chequers for my Mum’s 80th Birthday, which was yesterday. The staff were brilliant, they made us welcome from the minute we walked in the door. The food was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. I have never come across such great service. Would highly recommend and return. Thank you for ensuring my Mum had a good evening.
