The Castle Inn in Wealden

We were having a few days away and decided to come to this pub primarily because it is dog friendly. We were warmly greeted and offered a table. We were served at our table which was nice more a restaurant feel. We choose the fish and chips and can honestly say it was delicious, the nicest fish I have ever had! All freshly cooked and reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and the service was great. Big thank you to you all.

This local pub for our weekend was friendly, with good inexpensive food and so much atmosphere! Spent two nights here, and the pub was crammed on both evenings! Brilliant, thanks!

Good Food and friendly service Plenty of parking .

We have visited several times this year and always received a warm welcome. There is a true community spirit, the drinks are sensibly priced and the food is to die for, especially the Sunday Roast which is gorgeous. I would recommend the Castle Inn to anyone passing through or visiting Pevensey Bay

Staff were fantastic, the food was great and the atmosphere was good .If I was in that area again, I would definitely go back, and I recommend trying it out

A really lovely pub in a great spot. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the pub has a nice atmosphere. The food is delicious and freshly cooked for you and the menu is varied with a specials board too. Nice choice of beers and a lovely house red wine that my wife enjoyed.

As soon as me and my family walked in, we got seated. The food was great and so was the service. I really enjoyed the deep fried white bait. It was delicious. I would also recommend the warm chocolate brownie for dessert. The drinks tasted really good and came out fast. Definite 10/10 and will go back in the future

Wasn't originally going to stop here we were headed to another place but the menu enticed us in, So glad we stopped, had a lovely meal that was quite literally perfection 👌 Dog friendly and friendly staff a fabulous meal and drink!

Unfortunately I was waiting at least 30 mins for my meal. When I pointed out that mine was on the specials board & other people had ordered after me & had theirs I got no satisfactory explanation. Not good customer service!

Nice oldy worldy pub with nice staff and nice food. I had the pan fried beef stir fry which was on the specials board and was really nice. My partner had the sausage eggs chips and beans. The sausages were really good and I would say locally sourced. Overall a nice holiday lunch. Would definitely come again.

Friendly welcome and efficient staff behind the bar and taking food orders. Excellent cod and chips.... Lovely thick piece of fish and perfectly cooked in a light batter. I'll be back!!

Had a lovely lunch here the other day, food was great and well priced, very nice atmosphere

We when here for an evening meal. The bar was busy and very noisy. We were given a table in the very bland back room. My wife ordered a vegan pie, I had steak and ale pie and our friend had fish and chips. The fish was very good as was the veg for all three. The vegan pie though was disgusting. It measures 5” across and 3/4” deep. The pastry was burn and solid, my wife couldn’t get her knife into it. I spoke to the waiter and he returned it to the kitchen and brought a fish and chips in its place. My steak and mushroom pie was also disappointing. It was very and the pastry was overcooked. I struggled through with it though. I mentioned our problems to the manager and she said she would check with the kitchen to see what went wrong. What went wrong was the cook sent out lousy food.

We went for a family dinner everyone ordered different food and everything came out hot . Everything was delicious,Starters ,mains and puddings ,kids were given colouring books and pencils. Highly recommended this pub .

Popped in this week as I was working in pevency the food and service was as good as the previous time 2 years ago lovely people and lovely food I 100 percent recommend this little gem to anyone visiting the area thanks guys and see you in 2 years time when I work in pevency again 😀

Lovely home cooked food and very reasonably priced too. Ample parking with a large outdoor garden. Live music too, a bonus.

Sausage, egg, beans and chips was excellent, with large portions. Salad was disappointing as it contained no lettuce (which the menu said it did) and was obviously from a packet, with a tiny bit of tomato, about a teaspoon of grated carrot, a tiny bit of cucumber but masses of chopped giant onion plus chopped pickled onions. I had to leave most of the onion as I don't like the taste and find it indigestible. The coleslaw was home made and fresh, but had a largish piece of unchopped cabbage stem in it. The ham with it was thickly sliced boiled bacon, which was very good, and new potatoes were also served, which were nice, though not hot. I had to request dressing and only a tiny amount was brought. I was pleased, however, that sweet pickle was produced on request. Another plus point was the friendliness of the staff. Can I suggest that onion is left out of the salad in future, that lettuce is included and that the cabbage in the coleslaw is totally chopped up and does not contain the stem?

Awesome food for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended. The lovely barmaid was very helpful and couldn't do enough to make our meal even more special. Well done guy's 👏

I had a nice meal here, but my only complaint was,it was not a very good menu for vegetarians. The pub itself was friendly and seemed quite popular for lunchtime. The staff are helpful and friendly.

Wanted a dog friendly pub near Eastbourne. All the right notes. Car park alongside had 2 spaces. Low beam, wood floor atmosphere. Good draft beer (Harvey's). Friendly and efficient staff. Food cooked well from fresh (whitebait, cod in beer batter). Quite a choice of specials (incl pie, lasagne, burger, steak). Pretty full but tables spaced enough for conversation. A really good local pub.

Was here for a family meal for Mother’s Day . Six of us . Very disappointed with Roast Lamb Sunday Dinner . Three roast potatoes ,and one was really badly burned . Should have complained but didn’t want to spoil for family . They enjoyed their Roast Beef dinner . Desserts were not very nice either . But was still a nice day . Will be back but only for a drink I Think .

Very disappointing. I have the roast beef and it was very cold when I received it . I sent it back and they microwave it .. I would have preferred a fresh plate of food . Cauliflower cheese was over cooked .

Light lunch with family and two bassets. Fabulous, food wonderful, service impeccable will be back. A proper pub with easy access.

Popped in with my collie for a coffee & a chaser.Staff couldn’t have been more welcoming . Superb hot coffee ,nice biscuit for my dog & more complimentary dog biscuits on the bar Nice atmosphere,warm & inviting . Bar server Olivia was particularly helpful & welcoming .Great public house .

It's a lovely pub. Three of us went there while on holiday in Pevensey. The meals were delicious. The only thing that spoilt it for me was the number of dogs in there. It is not very pleasant eating food with dogs sitting on the furniture and worse still dogs coming in from out of the rain. Wet dogs stink. Please don't get me wrong, I have had dogs through nearly all of my life but would not dream of taking them to a restaurant. There is parking at the pub and a free car park next to it.

We popped into the Castle in on Friday evening as a family of 7 on the of chance we could grab some food. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was really good and reasonably priced. We will definitely be visiting again!

Excellent local pub, cosy and relaxing. The service is brilliant and the staff and friendly and welcoming. I haven't eaten there yet so can't judge the food and service.

We stopped here on the off chance they had a table and we were lucky. We had a lovely warm welcome, it's a family, and dog friendly pub. Their Roast Beef dinner was excellent and the homemade Baileys cheesecake was gorgeous. We highly recommend this family pub.

We love this pub. So friendly, lovely service and wonderful home cooked food. We have had Sunday lunches and other meals. Everything time it has been great. The traditional puddings are so good!

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Visited 3 times while on holiday - Sunday lunch, Midweek lunch and evening meal on final night of our holiday, food was lovely and plenty of it in every ocassion. If your in the area would definately recommend you visit. Will be back next time we are in the area. Thanks everyone 🙂

A lovely pub located close to the beach. Ample parking and dog friendly which was a huge plus. We had travelled down for the weekend and visited the pub for a spot of lunch. The staff are lovely and couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. The food was plentiful and freshly cooked. As well as a set menu there were daily specials available. It's been 20+ year since I was last in Pevensey Bay, I hope I won't be leaving it so long next time and I'll be sure to revisit the Castle Inn.

So good to be back at The Castle for the first time since Covid brought the world to a stop. The pub is reenergised. Very buzzy and fun Booked for dinner for 8 of us and had one of the best pub meals. Clearly they have an excellent chef who knows what they are doing. Just by Pevensey Castle and Church this is a perfect stop off in a beautiful and historic town Thank you all

Amazing food , especially the puddings !!! Staff are always very polite and welcoming! Love the fact you can take your dogs . My children love seeing the dogs in there.

Just had a fab evening at the Castle with my wife and another couple. We were campervanning at nearby Normans Bay. Great chicken burger and chips for me, and my wife had a chicken kebab with rice and salad. Both delicious and as much as we could eat - no room for dessert. Great atmosphere, with the School Disco Band from Eastbourne providing the entertainment. Lovely staff providing exactly the right level of service.

My wife and I called in on Tuesday lunchtime hoping for a table. The restaurant was fully booked, but the staff went out of their way to be helpful. They found us a table in a separate room and treated us like honoured guests, bringing us our drinks and taking our orders very quickly. The food was mostly home made and cooked fresh and was delicious. The local ale (Long Man brewery best bitter) was excellent . To cap it all, the prices were very reasonable - especially for a popular tourist resort in September. Overall we were extremely impressed and immediately booked a table for Thursday. Highly recommended.

One of the very best restaurant fish 🐠 and chips 🍟 I've ever had... superb batter and super flaky fresh fish with nicely cooked chips too.. couldn't fault it. (everyone says the same thing about best I've eaten etc etc but this dish was just fab) ...the mint chocolate brownie is awesome, NOT to be missed (if you like mint chocos you'll love this afters) excellent service too, meals cooked to order which is always the way to eat out... highly recommended 👍👍👍

Great pub food in a very nice ‘country pub’ location. Close to the local beach area, but not ‘on’ it. I went for the burger & chips with a pint of LongMan Blonde to chase it down. Really nicely cooked - and just what was needed. There’s a large beer garden area at the rear, which made for a very pleasant evening post meal drink. Would certainly visit again.

Great pub, honest pub food reasonably priced, good evening out for a drink and a meal.

What can I say. We booked a table for 630 pm it was ready before we got there. When we walked in we were greeted with friendly staff. The landlady was absolutely brilliant. She made sure we were served well and got exactly what we wanted. Me being me I had downed my 1st pint before the rest of the drinks came out. Having said that she made sure my glass wasn't empty for more than a couple of minutes. Starters were fresh and tasty. The mains were just as good. I had the home made pie and I wasn't dissapointed. To anyone visiting the area and the camping and caravan club site this small local pub is omg so worth a visit. Ales and lagers. Many gins so something for everyone

Very mixed review here but sad to say I won't return I went in the pub with my family on Sunday 13th and was lovely, a friend and her children came to visit Wednesday 17th so we all went there for dinner, was very busy but the lady who seated and served us was lovely, very friendly & helpful. However, at the end of a very enjoyable meal we went to the bar to pay, I stood at the end of the bar, close to the door leading to the toilets (didn't notice this at the time) and a guy (later informed a regular) walked through the door from the direction of the toilets and although there is a window in the door which he could have seen me and maybe opened it slowly and tapped me/ called to me etc he pushed it open fully and walked through. I stumbled forward with the blow and have now a rather substantial bruise on my back from the door handle. Rather than an apology the guy said 'that's what you get for standing by a door' making it seem intentional Very sad to say the lady behind the bar heard/ saw this happen and did nothing. I work in hospitality and would not have allowed this to have happened without speaking to the guy. Very sad about it but if that's the attitude of the regulars I will not be joining them.

Can’t fault this place, been x 3 roast twice amazing and scampi cod steak and burgers the third time, lovely old pub , happy staff and good service one of my favourites

Great band...The Stray Dogs were on and the reason for our visit.

The historic village was so cute, and I surprised with the castle too because I didn’t know about it.

Called in on off chance last night while driving by, turned out it was karaoke night, the locals were all very friendly and the staff and landlady made us feel very welcome. Will be back.

Back for umpteenth time, always good. We especially like the prawn cocktail, almost a meal in itself.

First visit to the Castle Inn. As the weather was nice we sat in the garden to the rear. Nicely laid out with plenty of seating and tables. The staff were pleasant and engaging. Just stopped for a drink so can't comment about the food.

Food here excellent, a lot of things homemade (steak ale and mushroom pie the best ever!) portion sizes are good. and nice to have piping hot food. Reasonably priced, both food and bar. Great atmosphere and really friendly helpful staff. Seems to have lots of regulars, who are not clicky and make you feel welcome. Great night out with fabulous entertainment (Guy Sowdon)

A friendly pub with lovely food and kind and helpful staff.

Outside seating a bit rickety. A bit barren....could be much more attractive!! However, it was good for a quick meal and drink....wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer. Its a good location and has great potential which could be developed into making it a really nice pub!!

Lovely food, excellent staff. We were kindly accommodated last minute on Father's Day Sunday; staff were very welcoming, food was lovely, and the ice cream spot on!! Will definitely be back!! Thank you!!!
