Had a nice meal, food decent as usual. Service better than usual, chap called Nate made sure we had a nice time. We'll be back.

We recently went there for a Christmas dinner. There was 3 adults and a 2 year old, gotta say the service was pretty good and u have to give em credit as the place was quite busy. Was reasonably priced if not cheaper than other places we looked at. We have never been out for Christmas dinner before so this was a bit of an experiment for us. The food was spot on so overall we were very happy with our experience.

Nate looked after us for our last minute family get together. It was obvious that they were short of staff but they managed to deal with us in a very professional way. The food was nice and plenty of it. Would go back again.

Enjoyable lunch made extra special by Nate, absolute joy with his repertoire, would come back again just for Nate, could do with more like him 👍🏻

Probably the worst Sunday roast in St. Austell Visited with my family today, after an almost hour long wait for our food, bellies hungry, we received what can only be described as a bland soggy mess - chef needs to be fired! Two family members had the vegan roast (same price as the normal one) and got half the food - the beef for the full roast was overcooked, the gravy was watery, and the roast potato’s, soggy! Not worth a tenth of the price paid. Avoid at all costs!

Had an absolutely wonderful time with the family and the food was great, wanted to say our server Nate really went above and beyond with making sure we had a great time and a great laugh also, THANK YOU NATE xxx will definitely come again everything was just what we needed

Very helpful, polite and friendly staff that noticed sauces were forgotten very quickly without the need to even mention it ourselves, they just discreetly grabbed the sachets for the table. Very open space, easy to order as they come to the table, food was brought over quickly and I'd say it was pretty standard pub meal food. Overall happy experience.

Lovely place with really tasty food and reasonable prices, just a bit of wrong information given to my guest about available food but that was rectified shortly after to a satisfactory conclusion, so I would definitely eat there again.

We were greeted with a warm welcome from Nate who then attended to serving our table. The group was part of a local day centre for adults with learning difficulties and Nate was fantastic! The pub was extremely busy for a Monday lunchtime and only 2 people in the kitchen and 2 on the floor, but they did a brilliant job. We all ate off the 2 for £11.99 menu, which is an absolute bargain and good portion size, quality and quantity for a £6.00 meal each! Nate was extremely helpful when it came to paying as everyone paid separately. Our day centre will definitely be back.

Turned up at 6.30pm. Just me and my wife last night (29/11/2024). Only to be greeted by a very rude member of staff that took exception to the fact we hadn't booked. Despite the website saying no booking was required. He even had the nerve to say"its Friday night you know ". He claimed the pub was fully booked, but the restaurant didn't look particularly busy. Horrified by his attitude we turned away and went elsewhere. As someone who visits St Austell on business regularly I would never set foot I that pub again let alone recommended it to a friend. There's no excuse for rudeness.

Breakfast is absolutely awful And day menu is trash the microwave must be working over time..... the Germans are no longer flying overhead do better

Not great, scruffy person in jeans showed us too table, ordered potato dippers which came lukewarm and anaemic looking. Hubby had burger and about 10 chips. Tried to use blue light card for discount as that is advertised online, wouldn't accept as said needed app???? Won't be rushing back.

According to Google, this place closes at 22:30 on Sundays. Went in at 21:00 and told bar was shut.

I live locally and have used this pub frequently. Over the last few months I have found the service has really gone downhill. I can’t blame the staff as they have always been polite and helpful, they just haven’t got enough staff to cover. My first experience was in September in the evening going out with friends. We put in our order and had to wait for at least 15 minutes to get our drinks. The waiter came around for our order at least twice and on both occasions we asked where were our drinks. On another occasion my husband and I had a very similar experience. Then again on another occasion the same thing, this time I ordered another drink as they serves the meal to ensure I would get one to have with my meal. The last straw was another visit late afternoon where we called in asked for a table for two and were told to go into the snug area as there wasn’t any staff available for the restaurant. I was quite happy to do this. We were given the various menus and went to find a seat. The tables were still uncleared from previous customers, so I went to get some drinks and asked if we could have our table cleared and cleaned. Again the we are short staffed excuse came in. My husband went to order the meals we had chosen and was told they couldn’t provide them as they weren’t available. Needless to say we had our drinks and left. Even though this pub is very local to me I shall not be going there again. The service is just appalling. We were going to book the Christmas lunch there, but that is now a definite no no..

Festive menu. Friendly person serving. Pate and prawn cocktail very tasty. Main turkey the sprouts were hardly cooked but overall not to bad. Very quiet hardly many there, clean and tidy

The outside is undergoing a lot of work at the moment however inside is reasonable and there is a fair range of food on the menu Sunday morning breakfast is very popular and very busy so it's best to book It's popular with families with younger children If it is busy there can be a wait which isn't always convinient so if you are on a timetable it's best to book Staff are pleasant there are toilets but they are upstairs ,there may be others but these are the only ones I've ever seen On a nice evening it's quite pleasant to sit outside , when the work has finished .Visited twice recently The work has finished The dinning areas have been redecorated and new flooring laid Visited again the other day after not going for a while following a couple of disappointing visits The staff seem to have changed and there are more of them We had booked luckily as it was busy Meals were ok But as it was busy ( 5/15) we did have a wait Visited again last night All staff very friendly Although there weren't many of them and it was very busy We did have a while to wait but the food was hot well presented for what we had and arrived so we could all eat together Staff checked we had everything we needed but didn't over fuss Took our plates away promptly so we weren't sitting looking at them for ages and bought menus back for dessert which was served in good time A much better experience this time than the past one Glad we took the chance and went

We came for dinner during a stay at the Premier Inn next door. The options for food and quality of food were excellent, but the service made the meal! Nate was incredibly attentive and his passion for hospitality was clear. His friendly attitude and enthusiasm were refreshing :)

Took 40 mins to get drinks 3 out of 7 were wrong. Regular coke not diet as ordered. Food showed up and was very tasty but the portion of chips were mean and when mentioned to waitress she said that's that. So we ordered some more side chips which were coming out soon but never showed up. We then decided enough was enough and didn't bother with desserts. Mentioned all this when paying but felt it fell on deaf ears. Shame as we were regulars will think again before we return.

Came here for lunch. Welcomed by Nate, and he couldn’t do enough for us and kept us entertained. Food was good and the service prompt. A very pleasant dining experience and we will return here again.

It was a very busy Friday evening with a large party bring catered for, but both Lisa and Jacob looked after us with a personal smiley service nonetheless. Lisa took the time to explain what was happening and made sure we were advised about the menu options. The food was very good quality for the price so would definitely recommend a visit for a value for money meal.

So where do I start ? We were firstly sat next to another couple wuen the entire restaurant was empty . Least spread your customers around We ordered food and drink and the drinks came swiftly Then the food arrived Fish and chips eity mushy peas Buttered jacket potatoes and cheese The lady said oh your mixed grill will be in a minute . What mixed grill ?? However : Mushy peas : not warm at all that I’d expect . To quote fletcher it was lukewarm Fish : if this was the film it would be grease 3. When I slit open the fish the grease was oozing through the fish . Even my wife commented on this . Consequently I didn’t eat the batter hoping not to be ill . The inside of fish was nice . The chips weren’t hot at all . Buttered jacked potato and cheese Not buttered …… Finished our food , paid and left disappointed. Next day we went to garden centre. We’d been to this particular restaurant and it was clear it had gone down hill .

We live locally and this our local and we visit regularly. Despite being obviously understaffed, we were served quickly, we had the mixed grill and sirloin steak, everything was cooked perfectly.

I had a lovely time! Actually the 5 of us did! We were out for a celebration lunch, my birthday 🎂 We were served by a very polite, fun & very efficient young man. I am useless with names, but he used to live in Spain 😉 Also, a lovely new lady that was being trained, she was lovely and I hope she is doing well. We had 2 courses & a few drinks. It was quiet being lunch time, hence only 4 stars for atmosphere. It was very quiet, until we arrived! 😂 But it was just what we wanted & needed. I'd recommend you give it a try. If you dont find it great one day, Please don't be put off, try again. Different times, change over, different staff, can all make a massive difference. In time you'll know the best times to go! My friend and I ordered a club sandwich, mid afternoon on 4th November, it was the tastiest club sandwich I have ever eaten, the egg was cooked to perfection and the rest of the filling was just as good. Well done Curt in the Kitchen.

Absolutely perfect atmosphere at 2pm quiet and polite perfect service. Food was great, and table and glasses etc were all spotless. Great value for money and Sarah and Jacob were perfect thankyou guys!

We booked as we were on holiday. Sat down ordered a sunday lunch and it was nice and hot and we enjoyed it.

We dined here on 23/10/2024 and were served by Tegan. If I could give her 6 stars out of 5, I would. She was efficient, friendly, and made us feel welcome and special.

Well, no service, poor quality food. Annoying epos system whereby you are required to refuse to donate to their charity before payment can be made! Yanks might accept having to complete a mini survey before ordering food, but this won't fly here! When I am hungry I just want quality food! Shame they can't provide that!

Not a good service at all, was seated after 5 minutes wait, had to wait 30 minutes to order, listening to staff moaning about each other, sat next to a huge pile of dirty dishes that kept getting added to, we had a roast was obviously sat for a while before being brought out as wasn't very hot, pigs in blankets are 2.99 extra no bacon on most of them, you only get 3 each , run out off beef so only turkey and gammon, peas and carrots were the only veg, my husband didn't get a stuffing ball, frozen parsnips not worth the money very disappointed to be honest , was really looking forward to go for lunch with my husband as we don't go out much as we are always busy but can cook alot better at home .

Getting quite disappointed as we have been overcharged twice now, also was told there would be an half hour wait ended up over 1 hour. The drinks service is very slow, which has been for a while. We live locally, so we managed to sort out a refund the first time, but I make sure we check our bill now before we pay!! It's a shame because the staff are lovely, friendly and accommodating.

For the 2nd time in a row, I have prebooked for 3pm on a Sunday to take my family for their carvery. First time they cancelled due to a storm which is fair and today we got there hungry for the carvery only to be told it was not available. They state its available 12-6pm and had already sold out. Whilst I understand companies may not have prepared properly to make sure they have adequate food for both booked people and walk-ins, I find it extremely disappointing that they was no courtesy call to let me have the choice of cancelling the booking and taking my family elsewhere. We travelled 35 minutes to get there and were there by 2:40 so they had ample time to let us know. Had i known i would have gone elsewhere to save my families disappointment. As my family were hungry they offered the main meals which honestly weren't worth the prices we paid and the drinks weren't either. Bill came to just under £100 that i would have happily spent anywhere else. Whilst waiting for dinner, a couple at a nearby table were eating their burgers commenting on their disappointment for not having the carvery available considering thats what customers are expecting. They weren't the only ones either. They also stated had they known, they would have gone elsewhere and how mediocre their burger was for the price. As my husband works until 2pm on a Sunday, 3pm was the earliest booking we could do. We won't be coming back for the carvery for a third time. I hope that whoever is in charge of ordering learns to do a better job as selling out of your special Sunday carvery within 2 and a half hours out of the 6hrs it's advertised for is highly unprofessional. Place was also dirty with food and napkins on the floor, some was close to where the male staff member was standing and he done nothing about it. Same to see such a beautiful restaurant lacking in all areas.

We went here last night to have a drink for my son's birthday. I was pleasantly surprised. It was very welcoming. The staff including the Manager Shane were so friendly. The whole place looked so clean. The food looked delicious but we didn't actually have any. I will come back and have booked for the family on Boxing Day. Thanks everyone for making it an enjoyable evening

Stayed at Premier Inn for the week and ate at the restaurant every evening. Food and service was good Nate was a great host and nothing was ever too much trouble for him or the the team. The staff were friendly and looked after us well.

Tegan was very curtious and helpful and ensured that myself and my work colleague had a nice meal at the restaurant

Came in for some drinks last night as staying in the Premier Inn next door. The barman Damon was very helpful and served us quickly. We also asked about the menu which he gave us some recommendations on, although we did decide not to eat here on this occasion.

A very enjoyable evening. Good food, friendly, prompt service and happy staff. Nate was lovely - happy and attentive without being 'over the top'

Staying at Premier inn next door so thought we would pop in for dinner and drink. What a dump! Staff totally uninterested, dirty plates and glasses on every table in the area we went to sit it. Furniture filthy. Tables very sticky. Decided not to eat there. On the plus side, the barman did pour me a nice Guinness.

Stayed at Premier Inn from 8th to 14th September and ate full English breakfasts all week and several evening meals. Food and service was very good considering the shortage of staff. Nathan and staff were very friendly and looked after us well.

The place being nearly empty on a Sunday lunch should have been a sign. Although the staff were friendly they didn't seem overly competent. Our meals arrived promptly but my veg lasagne was more like some weird cheese soup. There was no check back from staff and by the time we actually managed to speak to someone everyone else had finished eating so I didn't bother ordering anything else and left hungry. I wouldn't go back.

Evening meal was lovely, steak was really good and chips were excellent, however the breakfast was not as good, pancakes were stale and tasteless and eggs were horrid.

Don’t order the baked potato with chilli. As you can see from the photo, it was tiny. Not only tiny but the lack of chilli was noticeable. I only had one bean and was lucky to find one extremely small beef splinter. I brought this up with staff and they told me that’s it comes pre-packed so they couldn’t actually get me any more chilli to even try and cover my potato. I was offered to change my order but as I’d waited so long for that disappointing offering, I chose to decline. They did let us have our coke foc. We were then asked if we would like the sweet menu but decided that a coffee and cake in Niles bakery next door would be a safer option. Needless to say, I wouldn’t recommend this place for food and will not be eating here again. The staff members were pleasant enough and I’m sure if you just fancied a drink it’d be ok.

Hubby and I popped in for a last minute afternoon date, Nate was a brilliant host. As soon as we walked even though the door even though he was busy constantly running around he communicated with us and was on point making sure we felt looked after. He engaged with our choices and never left us waiting too long with a dry glass. He also made sure our cocktails had straws. We had a lovely afternoon will definitely be back again.

First of all Nate was an amazing host and attentitive in all respects.The staff in general were great and the food was good.My only cringe was that was no Cranberry sauce as I was having a Turkey roast.Nate you will no doubt now know who is creating this review lol.Someone needs to update their shopping lists and make sure that the right sauces are always available because it doesn't have to be Christmas if you have Turkey on the menu in between.Other than that a lovely time and will definitely visit again soon.Just make sure that you update your sauces lol xxFinally Nate is an asset to your business so professional,sense of humour and much more xx

Smothered chicken , I had no coleslaw and no salad , chicken was dry and overcooked .Not good at all , very quiet there today but plenty of staff .

Friendly staff, quick service and good food

I’m a regular visitor of this pub, often good friendly service. Popped in the other day for a drink as was passing, making our way to a table in the bar area only to be shouted out by a man behind the bar- ‘have you booked a table’ we said no we haven’t. He said I’ll be on my own in a minute so can’t serve you’ We looked at each other and thought that’s rather abrupt so walked back out again. We only came in to have a drink. You’ve lost my custom. Get more staff! Feel sorry for the people who come down on holiday.

Food was ok and the staff polite and friendly. This is an update from our latest visit to the carclaze four weeks ago, there has been a couple of changes in management and staff over the past couple of years and at the moment it is massively under staffed. We stayed at the premier inn next door for three nights and we were booked in for three breakfasts and an evening meal. So we turned up for our first breakfast we were told to sit where you want, every empty table was full of dirty crockery from the previous guests, the coffee machine was empty, no bread for the toaster and no orange juice I could go on but won't. Every thing was eventually replenished by what seemed to be the only person on duty, hat's off to her she was absolutely run ragged and bore the brunt of one or two angry customers which was uncalled for she was a trooper. Needless to say we decided to go elsewhere for breakfast for the rest of our stay. We returned the following day for an evening meal with an old friend which was pre booked, there seemed to be a couple more staff and our food came reasonably quick but our mains came before the starter. All brought to us by a chatty bubbly very apologetic waitress so this was forgotten about rapidly. The food was ok but nothing special, again staffing levels were low as there was a shortage of clean glasses I stuck with the same pint glass for four pints, due to the bar being a wash with dirty glasses from one end of the bar to the other. We used to be residents of St. Austell and over 11 years went here many times for Sunday morning breakfast and the odd evening meal, but unless there's a drastic change this will be our last.

Very good, excellent staff and service

Often use this establishment for breakfast all year round when in the area, but tuned away today as too busy? Unfortunately the restaurant was empty but had only 2 staff on. 2 things, I offer my business all year round, was on my own and how busy are you with an empty restaurant that you can’t cope with a single person. A real shame, I don’t blame the guy but poor form, I’ll never give them my business again.

We we're on holiday in Cornwall booked The Carclaze for 18:30 31/8/24 admitting they were busy.. Although some of the main was tasty most of it was just warm the bread served to us had green mould along the crusty edges, (the wife is allergic to penicillin so much so she has to wear a medical bracelet as penicillin would kill her) we pointed the mould out to the staff she said " I'll tell the chef to be more vigilant" and bought us some more bread no apologies maybe it's a one off but even so it should not have happened.

Booked a table for sunday lunch. At this time they were short staffed and no table service was available. Went to the bar and ordered our food and drinks which a.ounted to approx £45 We then sat at our table we sat there watching people that came in after us get there food. After 45 minutes My partner asked a member of staff where our food was she said she would go and find out for us guess what we never saw her again about half an hour later the lady on the next table asked the member of staff clearing her table where our food was. The guy who served us then came up to us and asked what we had ordered. At this stage we decided to leave on going to the bar to get a refund the guy who served us was very rude and acted like we were in the wrong. The lady who sorted our refund was very polite and helpful. Needless to say can't comment on the food as we never got any. Staff a mixed reaction but know one thing for sure we will never be going there again

We were staying at the nearby Premier Inn so booked breakfast and dinner. As expected, the last weekend of August was busy and we were pleased we had booked. They were also short staffed but this didn't effect the welcomes on both evenings we received from Sammy and Tara. Thank you both for making us feel so welcome! We really couldn't fault breakfast buffet, plenty of choice with unlimited continental and full breakfasts.

Distinct lack of bar staff and the overall service wasn’t great. Tables not cleared efficiently within a reasonable timescale. More staff of serving age (18+) required as had to wait longer than 15 mins to get served at the bar. Such a shame, as this place could be excellent, especially with the turn around of visitors from the Premier Inn

We were staying in the Premier Inn and took the cooked breakfast option at the Carclaze, but should not of bothered We had one vegetarian in the family and had to ask for vege sausages / bacon. It took 44 mins for one sausage and some rubbery vege bacon to come out. The next three mornings there was no vege sausages and just rubbery vege bacon which was like chewing gum, so lost out on a cooked breakfast on three mornings. On one of the mornings it looked like no one had packed away from the night before as the outside tables were still filled with beer glasses / plates etc and inside all the seats are heavily stained. On a couple of mornings there were no napkins and no fresh fruit with minimal staff on site, hence very disappointed I did speak to some staff in the Premier Inn and asked for an honest opinion with them agreeing with me and saying they go to Niles bakers on the opposite side of the road for food......

Worst pub attached to a hotel it's ever been my misfortune to visit. Awful food, even the tacos were cold. Beer watery, bland and overpriced. I'm amazed how a pub less than 5 miles from a brewery can have such poor beer.

Started in after noon with hot drinks which were very tasteful so we also booked for dinner. All food arrived well-presented. We had fish and chips and hunters chicken and were well impressed by the club-sandwich and the garlic mushrooms were the best ever and you just didn't get 3 in a bowl like most restaurant we were given a bowl full so excellent service from chef and staff so after such a good meal we also booked breakfast which was also excellent so 100% to staff who worked so hard

The food was good and value for the cost. However, the staff need more training to complete their orders. One teapot was delivered to the table but the waitress muttered something and we thought she was going to bring either pot of hot water or another teapot...and we waited. But had to go and ask. We also needed to ask for cold milk to go with our tea instead of the heated milk. When our meal was brought to the table it did not come with any cutlery or serviettes!. We were disappointed that such basic things were forgotten. If you want a nice time dining - don't expect to get it at The Carglaze !

Didn’t receive cutlery, had to get it ourselves, speed dating occured with no notice and made us move table, bit bossy, filthy seats, im still waiting for my bbq sauce i asked for 20hours ago, also people had to clean there own tables, all in all we moved tables 5times, and staff had a bit of a poor attitude, and food was minimal, overall would not recommend this pub, and was a 1/10

Called in for lunch with my daughter today at carclaze ,we had a lovely meal and we were served by Tegan a trainee, excellent service very polite and clear in taking orders from customers .thank you

Decided to have an evening meal here and it wasn't a good experience. Waited 10 mins to get served at the bar, another 10 mins to get a table as we hadn't booked, another 20 mins waiting for someone to take our order and when someone did, another staff member came round just 3 mins later to also take our order. Waited 20 mins for a starter which was chicken goujons which were barely warm. Have to say though that when the main came, the lasagne was hot and the side of skins on chips were nice but no condiments on our table so I had to go looking for some. Probably won't go again.

Came here with my children and grandchildren whilst on holiday close by and what a mistake I think it was, they happily took the booking for 14 of us but when it came to our food I found the staff lacking in knowledge about the menu and what came with the roast dinner we ordered all the meals together but had a half hour wait between the first 4 getting their meal and the rest of the party getting theirs I could understand this if they were busy but sadly they wasn’t, there was no apology for this. When the food finally arrived it was mediocre at best the meat was overcooked and the food cold, I asked for extra gravy in the hope it would warm the food but was told we had to wait as the chef had burnt it, when it did arrive it was quite nice gravy and was hot so made our lunch a little more edible. We had hoped when it came to dessert things would be a bit better after all you can’t go wrong with brownie and Ice cream but again we were mistaken 2 desserts came out and after asking 3 times for the rest of our order it was another long wait as you can imagine with 7 children in the party this didn’t go down well leaving them agitated and finding the wait quite difficult, in the end after 40 minutes I gave up asking and had a refund for the missing desserts. My husband and I have eaten here previously and the food was lovely but sadly I think the new management have really let it down. All in all after todays visit I wouldn’t return which is quite sad as it looked lovely but definitely on this occasion the building was far nicer that the food and the service.

No staff to clean and clear the tables.... the food we had was ok

Poor food. Long wait. No apologies from front of house staff. Poor communication from the kitchen. A never-to-be repeated experience. We have pre-paid for breakfast tomorrow but I don’t think we will bother.

Went for lunch with family. Had a brilliant time. Service was great and food fantastic
