Very friendly and professional service. Nice menu with lovely gluten free cake! Suggest popping in even if you’re not visiting the museum.

But the choice on the menu was limited. The sandwiches were quite pricey (almost £5 for two slices of bread and cheese - no salad no crisps) Nice tea and cakes though :-)

I visited the café with my husband and daughter during the Christmas holidays. We had a perfect afternoon tea and a lovely hot chocolate (served in a beautiful cup!) What I appreciated most are the young people working in the café, so nice and kind.

We were prepared for having a hard time selecting the nicest cake but all four of us were tempted by the good looks of the banana cake. It was as good as it looked like!

Really enjoyed the food in here after a visit to the museum. A large variety of good quality sandwiches, cakes and savouries. Good coffee and service. Many visitors appeared to be locals rather than museum visitors which I always think is a good indicator. It is quite a small place which becomes crowded when the weather is bad and people can’t use the outdoor area.

Legend has it that Roald Dahl had a very sweet tooth. If that’s you too, the museum café is a must for you. There are probably plenty of other things, salad and stuff, but all we saw was a counter full of wonderful cakes and other sweet delights and some bright smiles behind it. Nice seating outside and, joy of joy, the coffee arrives in humping great mugs, exactly as hot as it should be. If you’re in Great Missenden, this is a pleasant place. Museum time entirely up to you.

massive choice of food for a small cafe and good value for money for an attraction eatery! The space is pretty small so it could seem quite crowded if there were lots of people there, but we went between Christmas and new year and it was ok. Staff were young but efficient and the atmosphere was lovely and tables were clean!

Situated at the entrance to the museum, small, clean but with a utilitarian look inside, visited late afternoon midweek with v little choice of cakes, scones huge and tasty, tea and coffee just OK, staff quite friendly. Overall underwhelmed and would recommend trying somewhere else.

We were sussing out somewhere to bring the grandchildren and called in at lunch time. The sausage sandwich was fine and we decided to go for one of the tempting cakes/buns. My wife said "ask if the bun is fresh today". I was too shy. It wasn't. It was very expensive and very stale. At least when I subsequently asked, they said it was yesterday's, but there was no apology and no offer of a partial refund. We will still visit the museum but will likely eat elsewhere.

The decor is light and airy with spacious seating for 20. The pastries on display look tempting and it all looks home made. The scones are rather large and so are the pain au chocolate. They serve sandwiches which can be toasted, jacket potatoes a soup and a daily special. I was a little shocked to discover that I was paying £2.70 for an americano coffee and £4.00 for a bacon sandwich. A little pricey I thought. In their defence the quality was excellent. My bacon sandwich had thick slices of wholemeal bread and the bacon was thickly sliced and very tasty. It was almost a meal in itself. The daily special was accompanied by a large and varied looking salad. The staff are cheerful and friendly. Recommended but it's not a cheap eat especially if you have a lot of kids.

Over-priced, hot chocolate not particularly yummy and the floor was filthy!! Sure, we were not eating off the floor but it really should be kept cleaner. There are hardly any seats but it is always busy, presumably with Museum visitors so they probably do okay. I wonder if any of the trade is repeat trade though?

I was told that there were no options for someone who has diary, egg, soya and nut allergies. Even the sausage sandwich is no good. We have visited lots of places and it is unusual that my grandson can have nothing (except a jacket potato that he doesn't like)

After a great time looking around the museum we stopped in the café for drinks and cake around 12 noon. We loved it here, great service, great food, reasonable prices and nice atmosphere. The café is quite small and we were lucky to get a table inside just before the lunchtime rush, however there are seats outside and the service is well run, they take your order and bring your food and drinks to you, helping to keep the café less congested. We all has drinks and tried a doughnut, scone and cookie – all were freshly made they day, baked to perfection and absolutely delicious. We wouldn’t hesitate to come back here again and would highly recommend to all.

Delicious.Visited with my 10 year old, enjoyed Danish pastries and tea in the main cafe in the morning and then returned at lunch time for sandwiches and cakes. Unfortunately due to the small size of the cafe it was full to brim at lunch, so we were directed to additional seating in a room around the back. This was a nice enough space but sadly, due to that fact it was raining our lunch was a little soggy by the time we had walked around the court yard with our tray. All in all the food was nice and reasonably priced.

You can enter the cafe without paying to go into the Museum. By the way there is no real Sweat and Blood in Bruce Bogtrotter's Cake

So very cramped, but they did have an overspill area and in the summer I'm sure you could use the courtyard. Whizz popper was epic!!! Selection of cakes was good. I opted for Bruce bogtrotters chocolate cake. Dry as a bone very disappointing, nothing like what it looks like in film or is described in book. I asked for some cream to go with and wait staff looked at me oddly and said he'd never heard that request before... ok! Then felt awkward so only had a teensy amount which did not help make the dry cake any more appetising! Would go again but would have another cake- there were other nice looking ones, just rather disappointed in the bogtrotter one!

Went with grandchildren (6 and 8), very crowded, tables not cleared absolute chaos for seating (do you queue with children and then try to find a seat, or quickly grab a vacated table and leave children whilst you queue?). Food acceptable - had jacket potatoes with tuna - and Dahl themed drinks. Very noisy. Alternative seating room full too, and too cold and damp to use outside seats. Staff very friendly and helpful though, all credit to them for that! We did enjoy our day at the museum, but half term obviously brought its own problems. Accessible for wheelchairs and buggies, but no space to move them about easily between tables and queue. Would go back, but would try off peak.

This cafe is full of Roald Dahl fun! We actually stopped in here twice - once before visiting the museum, and once after! For lunch we ordered the toasted 'sandwitches', sausage rolls and soup, and finished with some 'whizzpoppers' (hot chocolate). When we came back for afternoon tea our boys enjoyed the 'fizzcrumpers' (lemonade spiders). The service was pretty poor unfortunately, although it didn't stop us enjoying the atmosphere and food. The tables weren't cleared while we were there, and they were all full of dirty dishes. We had to wait to be served for a while because there was no-one at the counter, and we had to ask for our sausage rolls to be heated as they were given to us cold.

We had lunch here after a visit to the Roald Dahl Museum. I had a Thai-spiced soup which was delicious, followed by a slice of 'Bogtrotter's Chocolate Cake', for research, you understand. (A lot of the items have a Dahl theme.) The cake was fine, but not the best I have tasted. Loved the soup, though,

Located within the Roald Dahl Museum (but with street access aswell) this is a small well-formed café serving good food, some of it with a Roald Dahl theme (such as the Bogtrotters chocolate cake) but all of it good and tasty. I'm sure some people maybe thought it was expensive but we didn't. We had lunch and then later had coffee and more cake!! Staff are friendly and happy - which really helps (especially on busy days like it was when we visited - 100th birthday weekend - it couldn't have got much busier). There is extra seating within the courtyard outdoors.

As we arrived at the Roald Dahl museum early we thought it would be fun to stop here for a drink. From the outside it is typical Roald Dahl with Quentin Blake writing and illustrations painted with bright colours and cheery atmosphere.Inside the menu is typically Roald Dahl with items mentioned from his stories such as 'Bogtrotter chocolate cake' from Matilda or 'Snozcumber' drinks! There are pictures inside of characters and scenes from the books and there are several Dahl books to read whilst you enjoy your beverage or snack. The real delight is that it is frequented by locals, tourists and museum visitors. There is also a Costa in Great Missenden, but would it not be more fun every time you wanted to have fun and go back to your childhood you visit here?

Fantastic, all the staff are so friendly and the coffee is great. Had a nice bit of cake too. We sat outside in the little courtyard and watched all the children running around having fun, learning and reading to the parents. The museum is small and busy so it was nice to step out of the madness and relax.

Love this little cafe visited on our trip to Roald Dahls museum. We started with lunch and what is great is they do kids sized portions. We returned after spending 2 hours in the museum to afternoon cakes which indeed are caketastic, lipsmacking, fabulous! Good prices too!

After touring the Roald Dahl Museum next door, we had a nice little coffee, a soup, and a panini while we poured over the books we bought at the gift shop. The friendly staff and the reasonable prices (they could have overcharged as this is a bit of a novelty stop and potential tourist trap) give this five stars. Only minus would be that they unnecessarily offered disposable plastic cups when we asked for some tap water. Please, give us glass and save the environment!

We were day-outing to Great Missenden for lunch (see Nag's Head review), arrived early for a stroll and a cuppa. Didn't want to do chain coffee shop, and found Cafe Twit in the Ronald Dahl museum. Friendly welcome. Good service (including a takeaway Stilton and Pear loaf). Nice selection of bakery (some of it named after things in Dahl's books). Nice and bright and kid friendly. We were impressed!

We dropped in for lunch on Sunday before visiting the Roald Dahl museum. At least, we wanted lunch, but all the hot food had gone by 1pm. The sandwich choice was limited. The children's bag, at nearly £6, was very poor value. It included a drink with artificial sweetener - not used - and a truly tiny sandwich. The other contents were not healthy choices - packet donut, sweetened dried fruit, sweetened yoghurt tube, bag of crisps. No fruit, no sensible drink, and no substitutions. The tea was nice but the coffee was tepid. The cakes looked nice but we did not try them. I would suggest eating elsewhere and only using the cafe for cake and tea. To be fair, our 8 year old quite liked it and there were many other children there. It was not cheap for what it was.Service was hit and miss. Salad arrived without cutlery. Children's specially made sandwich came in a box, no plate. And the museum was equally disappointing.
