Lovely little place in quite village. Staff friendly and wonderful food.

Went for a lunchtime drink and snack whilst on a weekend break; was so nice we returned the same evening for a meal. Very nice food and decor, staff are very good.

I often pop in The Cadogan after a long dog walk, Charlie (the Spaniel) has a bowl of cold refreshing water while I choose from a good selection of drinks from their own brewery or brand favourites. The food is always delicious & the service quick and attentive.

The best part was the friendly staff, always willing to go out of their way to help. Excellent food with great choices and generous portion sizes (definitely big for me!). Lovely atmosphere too. Thank you to the wonderful staff! 🙏

Excellent pre-Christmas meal with family. The Cadogan consistently provides meals of a high standard. Excellent range of wines. Craft ales. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Plenty of parking space. Outside eating available. Play area for children and large lawn for them to have fun.

Walked to the Cadogan on a freezing January evening and enjoyed the super warm welcome and delicious grub.

First time visiting for a number of years. Booked a table for lunch on my birthday. First plus point; would I prefer a quieter table in the window? Yes please! Minimal wait for my food which was plentiful and very tasty. Service was friendly and attentive without being obtrusive in any way. Treated myself to a selection of their beers to try at home. All in all, I honestly don’t know how it could have been made any more enjoyable. I will be back a lot sooner.

Lovely food, great staff, nice atmosphere

Unfortunately had a very cold reception. 5 of us arrived at 11.50am for a table booking at 12pm. The door was locked so we knocked on the door. The door was opened and we explained that we had arrived for our 12pm booking. We were told that the pub does not open till 12pm. We asked whether we could just sit inside as it was very cold outside. The response was and I quote, "No you cannot!". There was no explanation as to why it was not possible. One of our party was allowed inside to use the toilet but the rest of us stood freezing outside. I guess you will not be surprised that we cancelled our booking and found an extremely welcoming pub in Bury St Edmunds. We have been to the Cadogan on many previous occasions and should have learned that the brusque service is indicative of why they are in business. We will not return.

Absolutely Disappointing! Booked a table, showed up on time and had to wait, no problem. Staff member approached and told us that our booked table was not free yet because those on the table were staying later, our only option was to sit at a very small table behind a very large group or sit in the dark in the bar area in front of the front entrance. My wife asked why we were being inconvenience based on the overstayers, and was rudely told that we could sit at a crappy table in the middle of a party or take what was offered. On the website…”if you are running late, please give us a call on 01284 728443. If other bookings permit, we will hold your table for as long as we are able to”, so I stupidly thought that each table was reserved for a specific time, not that if the prior diners decided to spend more time, were running late etc . that the person with a guaranteed reservation would be expected to take whatever was leftover. I would have left this place if it wasn’t a Sunday afternoon…stupidly I did not book a back-up place in the event that the cadogan restaurant decided to treat my wife and I like garbage. Meal was okay, but not great. We received absolutely NO customer service…they took the order, dropped it off, presented bill when I ask…no additional drinks, no checking on us, no dessert solicitation, we simply did not matter. We paid £50 to be insulted, have just below average food, and disappointed. Sad, we had lunch at the Cardigan a few months ago and it was good, so we were excited about having a Sunday roast there, were left angry, frustrated and disappointed.

Came for family lunch gathering as a group of ten. We received excellent, friendly service and they went out of their way to look after us. They offer an interesting and locally sourced menu with a good list of specials, and extensive choice of beers and wine. Lovely old building which is obviously very well looked after. Prices very reasonable for the quality. Would highly recommend.

The Cadogan hosted our livery yard Christmas meal. Twenty five of us sat down to a delicious three course set menu, the tables were set with Christmas crackers to get us in the festive mood and the lovely and efficient staff ensured that the evening flowed. Everyone had a splendid evening, it was a lot of fun and we all wish Matt and the Cadogan team a fabulous Christmas and wonderful New Year 🍾

Great menu and food always nicely cooked. Service is very kind. Is not like your usual pub, very nice atmosphere especially when the fireplace is on. The sunday roast was great, but all the other dishes I have had have been great as well. Only downside Id say is I think drinks are slightly overpriced but just my opinion.

Well that was a great find. Been really difficult to find a restaurant in or around bury st Edmunds that does a decent Sunday lunch. Absolutely fabulous. Compliments to the chef. Service was exceptional too. Our new ‘go to’ place.

I've stopped here again from work for 3 reasons, 1, the staff, brilliant, attentive, professional, personable, polite. 2, the steak, perfect, stunning, delicious, 3 the beer, the pale ale is delicious. So some context, I'm here with work, I could have easily stayed at a fancy golf club, somewhere different, but when you find a place to sleep and eat that is as close to perfect as you could wish for, you go back, right ? Lovely place, great food, great staff, great beer. Simple.

Lovely place to stop off for dinner en route to a wedding in the area. Staff were really polite and attentive. The food was very good and well presented. No idea if it’s a good location, but seems very popular.

Went for a meal not to stay. Light, airy and tastefully decorated with very pleasant outdoor area. Food was reasonably priced and good quality. Staff very pleasant.

Stopped in here last Saturday lunchtime for a bite to eat with my good wife, the food was lovely (had the mackerel salad) and the service i would have given 6 out of 5 if I could. Will call again.

Great food and - just as important - excellent service. We arrived a bit bedraggled from a wet 30 miles cycling and received a warm welcome from a young manager who, from that point onwards, treated us very well. In fact both the staff who served us were very good at their jobs. Polite, professional, friendly and communicated well with two old codgers probably 4x their ages! Haddock and chips (substantial portions) cooked and presented to perfection. Faultless food and service. What a lucky village to have such a pub / restaurant (decor lovely too).

Surprise 80th birthday celebrations for my mum. I can honestly say from start to finish all was excellent. Jack, Matt and the team certainly delivered.

We had our wedding reception here and had an excellent experience. Our venue host, Matt, and all the staff worked exceptionally hard to ensure the booking, meal arrangements, preparation, and everything on the day went smoothly. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, and the garden is fully enclosed. However, small children need to be supervised on the play area.

My Sister in law had her wedding reception here and the service and the food was fantastic. The garden is great as it is completely enclosed so the youngsters could run around without parents worrying.

We went lat Monday (Bank Holiday) and everything was perfect!! Starters mains and especially service. Great to see a young crew work so well together. You are all a credit to whoever trained you. We will be back!!

We visited the Cadogan for lunch - food was beautifully prepared, very tasty and good value for money. Staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Their garden would be lovely in the summer - they have a play area for younger guests too!

Great service and meal. We hadn't booked but they still found a space for us. Belly pork roast was particularly good.

These guys are always my first stop when I head down to visit my buddy who lives nearby- really cozy pub with excellent characters as wait and bar-staff!

Group of eleven of us met here for a meal. Very good service. We were put in the conservatory which suited us fine. They handled the large group well with food coming out hot and all together.

We went for family birthdays, met up there as we are all spread out. Lovely place, we all opted for the Sunday roast and it was amazing with the biggest portions of veg brought to the table!! All was piping hot and great quality, will definately be our designated meet up place from now on 😊

Recently attended a wake here and stayed one night. On booking over the phone, we were not told they do not serve breakfast, also we were not told to settle our bill the night before departure, as no one is about until midday.....and no one answered the phone! Nice room..... although toilets could do with a deep clean, nice food, but a definite lack of communication.....and I really can't understand why a hotel doesn't provide breakfast.....wouldn't stay again because of this.

My wife and I shared the 32oz sharing 32 dry ages rib eye. We were advised there would be a 40 minute wait before ordering. We went at lunchtime, and whilst I didn't time it, it felt that it arrived between 20-30 mins. On arrival it was worth the wait. Cooked to perfection with skinny chips and sauces accompanied by a side of onion rings. Onion rings were some of the best I've had. Overall we were thoroughly satisfied with the meal. If it was closer and we didn't have children, I'd go more often. We couldn't drink due to driving, but have drank there before. It's part of the Brewshed chain which is local to Bury St Edmunds and have some really good local craft beers. If you want a good meal and drinks then I highly recommend it.

Had a family meal here for 12. We had preordered. The service was excellent and friendly staff helped us enjoy the occasion from start to finish. Loved the atmosphere. Food was brilliant. Will be repeating the visit again.

Disappointed that yet another business is refusing to take cash payments. The customers are paying the higher costs of bank transactions. Reduce the bank charges and accept cash. I only visited the bar.

Today we held a family get together 15 of us for a sit down meal From beginning to end it was fantastic The staff were brilliant timing was perfect The assistant manager was just incredible in his ability and attitude, The quality of the food was off the scale several people saying the steak was the best they had ever had Well done to everyone involved

A 4* hotel with truly 5* service. I booked a VERY VERY last minute room while travelling along the A134 and the team were so accommodating and helpful, ensuring I had a dinner and drink waiting for me when I arrived so I didn't miss the kitchen closing. Really grateful for this brilliant hotel / pub.

Fantastic food delivered with excellent service.

Its such a lovely setting, a warm and friendly welcome from the staff, we had a lovely table for two in the window the sun broke through the rainy gloom. Water in an engraved bottle, and wines galore, we were recommended the South African Pinot Noire a really great choice. The staff kindly made us the lamb dish from the night time menu, it was very delicious, pink, with some fat attached, saddle back potatoes, lovely carrots and the lamb cooked to perfection. I'm sure if we had asked for some mint sauce it would have appeared. Other dishes we noticed, cod cheeks, apple crumble on and on. We had more wine and coffee. Well worth the trip, its on the dinner menu for a few weeks, more, they made it especially for us, so thrilled, so ruddy yummy.

Wonderful place for a delicious and relaxed Sunday lunch with friends. Staff were attentive and worked out what my friend who has an intolerance to onion and garlic could happily eat with no problems at all. We also had a great bottle of Georgian white wine which we had never tried before.

Amazing food, easily and without fuss catering to our specific dietary requirements. The team literally went out of their way to ensure we had what turned out to be, one of the best meals out we have all had in a very long time. Every single member of staff we met was super friendly, professional and genuinely lovely. The atmosphere and decor are welcoming and tasteful. What a wonderful evening we had!

Lunched here yesterday and it's a lovely restaurant. Very welcoming service, nice environment and importantly food was spot on. Rib eye steaks were top quality, really melted in the mouth.

Great steak. Sparse trimmings. Wife's haddock dry and boring. Frozen? Service adequate. One waitress totally unsmiling. Initial drink order taken at bar which we then had to carry to our table. Scraps of food under tables. We were first to eat . Table not properly wiped. Had to ask for irritating and unnecessary piped to be turned down. Whiny dog at closeby table . Expensive. But my streak was very good. We've been going to Cadogan Arms for over 50 years!

Lovely restaurant friendly staff

Having been let down in a big way at another place I called the Cadogan on the day before the event. It was a 60's band get together with people coming from all over the country and abroad. They fitted us in but bear in mind there were 17 of us. They could not have been more helpful! They set up a long table in an area where we would not disturb other guests and everything was brilliant. Food was first class and we enjoyed a memorable day. A million thank you's to the Cadogan and staff and we will be back next year!!

Cannot comment on the hotels or rooms as we didn’t stay here, however we did come for lunch at around 2pm on Friday, and came back for Sunday roast after reading all the good reviews. The food was really good on both visits. I had the whitebait starter and 16oz bone in sirloin on Friday, and my wife had the duck Bon bons to start, and the 9oz Rump for main. Both our meals were very good. For dessert I had the cheeseboard and a very larger glass of port, and my wife had the Passionfruit Eton mess, which were both very nice. On Sunday we both had the very highly rated and recommended beef roast, which was incredible, and we both had the same desserts as we had on the Friday. Be sure to ask for extra crackers with your cheeseboard as it only comes with 6, which wasn’t enough for me personally. All in all a lovely’s pub / restaurant, with very friendly staff, and amazing food

Disappointing visit, we have walked here many times since living in Culford a neighbouring village. Whilst we have had a mix response on occasions we have always managed to eat here even if we've had to wait a couple of hours, no issue when walking! But on this occasion we arrived on a Sunday having checked how long they served until (5pm). We arrived at 2.30pm with quite a few people seen leaving as we walked in. There were tables a plenty to chose from, but walked in behind another family, that also looked to have walked, they were turned away saying they were fully booked. I then asked if we could have food only to be told the same, very dismissively. Looking around at many empty tables I persevered and asked if they could fit us in. The younger bar person seemed uncertain, but the older young lady asked if we had booked to which I said no, we were told there was no room. The younger of the bar staff then said they could offer us crisps and drinks. We then walked home and drove to the Masons Arms in Bury St Edmunds only to be welcomed and sat at a table immediately, yet they seemed just as busy.

This was the best food of our visit. Staff were friendly. Highly recommend you check it out. We will be back.

Came for lunch today as we were doing some walks in the area. The staff were very pleasant, and the food was sooo good! We often find eating out disappointing but it was delicious. 10/10

Went here for lunch and then again for dinner, a really good place to go! Lovely staff, good food, good drinks... Much better than their local competitor The Elveden Inn! That place is awful!

Called in during a Suffolk driving tour thanks to Trip Advisor reviews .... Warm welcome and (according to my husband), excellent real ale! We each enjoyed a light lunch in the form of two delicious starters, the chilli beef & squid with noodles and pea velote with hash brown and egg. Lovely garden setting, shame we don't have opportunity to come back for evening meal as the menu looks fab

Stopped in for a meal while traveling. What a great find. Very pleasant staff who were happy to advise on the menu, even checking with the chef if our request was possible. We both chose different dishes. Both nicely prepared and tasted great. If we are passing again or in the area we would happily return.

Fantastic food, perfectly cooked. We found the staff to be knowledgeable about the food. They tired their best to accommodate our requests and were able to explain why when one request wasn't possible. They checked back with us that the food was perfect. When I had finished my drink we were asked if we wanted more. Overall a perfect experience

2, service was slow choice of rose wine until going to the bar myself as no wine list on the table. Some staff very rude. They said I’m glad she’s gone

Great Sunday lunch - roast options were fab, but also happy vegetarian guest! Puddings were tasty and also a lovely cheeseboard option. Friendly and efficient staff.

We didn't stay over so can't comment on the accommodation, but we ate here twice over the last 2 weeks and had a really wonderful experience both times. Food was consistently good, but the service we received here has outshone all the other restaurants/pubs we have eaten at during our time in Bury St Edmunds. Staff are knowledgeable, friendly, unobtrusive and on the ball. We think they should be training all the other restaurant staff in the area :-)

Safe to say that we found our new favorite spot for Sunday roast. The reviews about the beef roast are not exaggerated at all. It was everything!! We plan to come back soon to try the pork belly. The sourdough was soft and delicious as a starter and we finished our meal with the ice cream trio. Also delicious!! Excellent quality. We’ll be back soon! Highly recommend.

Food and drink review: have been for food here a few times recently and it never fails to impress. The service is high quality with just the right amount of attention. The food is consistently very good. Most recently I had the octopus starter and the steak for main. Both dishes were very tasty and I highly recommend.

Had a lovely lunch here with my two sisters ( ladies who lunch). We were served by a lovely young man who couldn’t do enough for us. We complicated matters by one of us having a gluten allergy but there was something for them. I had a great trout dish while the others had the tempura veggies. Nice that the veggie options weren’t just cheese based. Spoilt a bit by the meringue desert but all very nice. Would recommend.
