The Butt of Sherry in Shepway

Went there today while visiting Hythe. Hade a very nice lunch. All the staff were on the ball and are waitress (sorry, didn’t get her name) was really pleasant and helpful. The food was clearly not out of pre-made packets and real food, prepared in a real kitchen by a real Chef. Will defo visit again.

Absolutely delicious. I had steak kidney and Guinness pie and my wife had burger and chips. Lovely food and great atmosphere. I had some food envy as every dish that came out looked lovely.

The only complaint was the frozen chips served. Very powdery. Oh. And the smells from the toilet but only if you're sitting by the toilet door. Just the toxic smell of chemicals as you would expect from a toilet I suppose. Probably best just remove that table.

Too hot for a full meal so had a baguettes or wraps 😋 really nice loads of fillings hips to die for. Back soon hopefully Highly recommended 👌

Met friends here for lunch. Huss was on menu and where I live Huss isn’t widely available. Selected this and it didn’t disappoint it was delicious 😋 our friends visit regularly as they live here

We ordered a salmon meal and a veggie pie. The salmon looked like it was out of a packet from Tesco and the veggie pie had a topping of puff pastry (not a proper pie imo). The mashed potato tasted like frozen balls of mash from Tesco. Both were overpriced and we wished we had gone home and eaten our own frozen Tesco mash and cheap salmon. Won’t be recommending or eating here again.

Lovely staff. We had table outside in the sunshine. We ordered a seafood platter for two,IT WAS AMAZING all perfectly cooked and presented, washed down with a glass of Rose and a non alcoholic lager.Perfect . Thank you all

Wonderful as always, they always have fresh fish dishes on their specials board and their pies and curries etc delicious.

Never been in this place previously and won't be returning. I ordered the Special of Skate, chips and vegetables. I started eating and then realised there weren't any chips as specified on the menu so I had to call over a waitress who said the chef must have forgotten and went to get some! I then discovered my skate wasn't cooked in the middle. I left the uncooked parts and when the waitress cleared the plates away, didn't even ask if it was OK. I don't like complaining and thought something would be said when we paid. No they just took the money, didn't even ask if it had been OK. On the whole I don't think the staff were concerned about the customers just content having conversations amongst themselves.

Starter no complaints very nice As for the Sunday roast we waited and waited in the end I had to go and speak to the staff. More time spent waiting When it arrived it was cold and no Yorkshire puddings and the gravy was like runny fat So can't recommend this place And iam very sorry to say this As I often take my visiting family

I don't really like eating out as I am extremely fussy when it comes to food! However, it was a very dear friends birthday so I made an exception. I ordered the liver and bacon and I must say it was excellent! The best liver and bacon meal I have ever had. It was very tasty and piping hot. Staff very friendly and attentive. Will definitely return.

Service excellent, food excellent, menu excellent, specials excellent - nice variety of fresh fish always available. However, the music is a bit too loud.

I have visited this old fashioned style pub a few times now, always for food. The choice of food, portion size and quality is always good. The welcome is always good and the service efficient and friendly.

Another first-class meal at The Butt of Sherry. The sizzling tiger prawns are my favourites and today’s were absolutely excellent, as was my wife’s local fish, huss. Service was fast and efficient and the staff here are friendly and welcoming. Prices are very reasonable and the portions are large. Thoroughly recommended.

The food is absolutely amazing, my husband had a roast and I had Tuna steak with stir fry veg and rice, it was absolutely delicious, staff are really friendly. Definitely going back 😀

This pub seems to be a very popular spot for locals; the interior is very traditional, although slightly run down. We stopped for a quick drink, which were reasonably priced. Staff here were fine, my only grunt was I feel a staff smoking area would be appropriate. Good place for a drink, plenty of seating & food served during the day.

We ordered a drink my friend was told No Brandy behind the bar as that's the only thing she drinks she wasn't happy then a man went off & came back with half a bottle!! Meal & service were great, then we got our desert's & I have to say the chef needs to learn how to make bread and butter pudding because It's meant to be squidgy & tasty what we got was layer's of dry bread & fruit thank god we had custard or ice-cream with it. Sorry to say that was not proper bread & butter pudding!!

We have dined at a few pubs in Hythe during our annual visits to Hythe. They have all been good but this has now to be our favourite. The quality of the cooking is superb and the service was friendly and very good humoured. The whole experience made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Great traditional pub. Very quirky! I had Huss, chips and peas at £16.50, and my partner had a cheese ploughman for £12.50. The portion sizes were large, but would have been happy with less to make it slightly cheaper. 2 meals with 1.5 pints of beer came to £40 for a lunch which is on the high side, but all the staff were lovely, the pub was welcoming, and the food was fresh and tasty. I would go back if in the area again, and everyone we overheard leaving was commenting on how lovely their food was. The pub is dog friendly too, and not really set up for children (which was good for us!)

The pub was busy but managed to find a table for us - excellent food and super service - our table had vision into the kitchen brilliant coordination chef and kitchen staff - all worked their socks off on a busy night and watched them thoroughly clean down the kitchen at end of service. I am currently sat in the garden having just had the best beef and Stilton pie I’ve ever had. It was that good I had to come straight on to review it! The meat was cooked beautifully and there was lots of it! They’d got the Stilton balance perfect too as it wasn’t over powering.My father also had a fisherman’s pie that he said was an 11 out of 10 and packed with fish. My mother had fish and chips and she said it was delicious!Definitely recommend!!

We were staying overnight in the area and saw the good ratings and feedback for this place and were not disappointed. We had a thoroughly lovely meal - food was cooked to perfection and nice portion sizes. Plenty of choice with a standard menu but also specials available. The only thing that took away a little from the excellent meal was our server, who although helpful was a little cold - we didn’t take this personally and didn’t affect our rating for our visit. We would definitely eat here again.

Ate here at lunch today following a recommendation. Two adults and two children. Tasty food with great portions (the ploughman’s was enormous). Friendly service. Lovely!! Highly recommended - but book a table as we arrived at 12 and they were full!!

We ate twice in this pub/restaurant during a week's holiday. We hadn't booked but we were found a table on the first occasion and we ate a really great meal. The fixed menu was very varied and was supplemented by a 'specials' board which changed every day. We were very impressed by the staff with there efficiency whilst they also had time for a chat. The food portions were very generous. We were so impressed we decided to have dinner here on our last night in Hythe. It was 'pie night' but we didn't choose any pies but the selction was amazing. Great place and we would return anytime.

Stumbled on this during visit to Hythe and could not be happier. Excellent choice of menu at reasonable prices. Staff friendly and efficient despite being extremely busy. Highly recommended.

Wow! Food is amazing! I had fish pie with lashings of fish and beautiful creamy cheesy mash. Partner had stake and ale pie which was simply delicious! Service is amazing! I will be back!
