Staying locally for the weekend and recommended by a neighbour. So glad I listened. Rung through my order for Sunday lunch and collected. The owner / chef is delightful, knowledgeable and very accommodating. My wife is vegetarian and gluten intolerant and so she came up with a list of dishes she could make for her. Food served on proper plates (to be returned) with takeaway pots of differing gravy. The food is delicious, hot and very good value. You will not find a better roast dinner more tasty, varied and at a fantastic price anywhere. Well done Butchers’s arms!

We met up with friends for a meal, having not eaten here before we were kind of Interested to see what it was like! My friends didn't like it at all, but to be fair I thought it was good for a Norfolk village pub! The food was piping hot and tasty pub grub. The atmosphere was a bit dull, we just felt a bit stared at from a couple of regulars but that could of been due to my mates being loud. I'd certainly eat here again..or drink, probably without my mates though! The barman explained there is a big refurbishment due to take place so it will be interesting to see how it changes. The toilets had all sorts of supplies for customers- a really nice touch. Plenty of parking. Dont expect the Ritz, it's a local pub. I'd rate it a good but that isnt available via this app...its average or very good, I'd say it's in the middle of the two!

My partner and I decided to stop here today and have a drink. I have never had a Pinot Grigio served in such a large glass in my life, most strange. On walking in, we found three, or was it four people just sitting around, chatting. They obviously knew each other well. We were the only other customers in there. I expect they were regulars, although why on earth anyone would go there is beyond me altogether. The only up side was a fire blazing, awful music playing, a local radio station, just dreadful. Total lack of atmosphere, perhaps it jollies up in the evening, who knows. On leaving, we both said thank you, to be polite and one of the females answered in a very odd tone. I would never return here. Much better places to have a drink, but we wanted to try somewhere else, shame we did.

This was only our 3rd visit to the Butchers Arms and it was a really nice night out. The Landlord was welcoming (good sense of humour), the food was excellent and the Beer tasty (Hop house 13). We have eaten at quite a lot of Pubs in North Norfolk down the years, last Saturdays meal for me was the best one ever. The owners have clearly overcome the problems of the past and my 2 regrets are that I've only just discovered it and I live 120 miles away! If you like a relaxed atmosphere, a normal for Norfolk welcome and tasty home cooking then this little gem is a must.

I have just enjoyed a superb meal at this pub alongside 40 others and there didn't appear to be a bad word said about it. The service was efficient and friendly, the food excellent- especially as they were catering for such a big crowd in one sitting and the staff were really friendly and welcoming. I really can't find anything to complain about. Even the loos had useful bits and pieces lying around for customers use. The drinks we had were just drinks- acceptable and did what they said on the bottle, pump or can. How can our experience be so different? Thoroughly recommend and will certainly return even if it is 22 miles from home.

A quaint building that did not appear to offer a large space for dining. However, once inside we found plenty of tables in the bar area, among which was one booked ahead for us, and a larger restaurant room to the rear. Service behind the bar was a little 'rustic' but that should not put you off. Overall service and food was good.

At a time when local pubs struggle to stay open, I find it absolutely baffling why the staff working at the bar continually make up prices. Every time I've visited, prices have been massively inconsistent for the same drinks. Staff blatantly hesitating and making up prices on the spot. When visiting with a few friends the price of the round has varied depending on who has gone to the bar to get (the same) drinks! Larger and Guinness have been undrinkable on multiple occasions and vodka without question was watered down. I apologise for giving a bad review, however it's totally unacceptable for the two nominal functions of a pub - the drink and prices - to be how they are. This review is not based on speculation or a one-time bad visit, but numerous visits in hope that things had improved and trying to give the pub it's fair chance.

Whilst visiting the area, came across this pub and popped in on a Friday evening. Quite busy especially as it was foggy outside and this is very much a village pub out in the countryside. Was made to feel very welcome by both the staff and locals alike. Decided to have a meal...an extensive menu that will cater for all tastes...... ( I had the Special Boards - Greek Meze and my wife had chicken and chips ). Pretty sure if its not on the menu and they have it,.....they'll cook it for you !!! Both meals were piping hot, freshly made and good portions. Spent longer than anticipated in this pub as the atmosphere was very welcoming. Local ales on tap.Highly recommend if you are anywhere near this neck of the woods.

The Butcher's was the venue for one of our vintage motorcycle club rallies. They couldn't have been more welcoming, nor looked after us better. Home-made, good quality and well-served food which was very reasonably priced as were the drinks. It will never make the 'gastro-pub' stakes, nor is it furnished to the latest, 'stylish' fashion. But if it were, it wouldn't be worthy of this review's title.

Nice little atmospheric pub. It was far from buzzing on a Thursday night. The wife asked for her steak to be rare, in my book that is bloody, there wasn't a trace of blood in it, ie well done. I had a steak & kidney pie. I think there was one bit of meat in it and the pastry was tough as old shoes. My cauliflower was cooked to buggery and the large floret just about disintegrated when I touched it. On the plus side the portions were quite generous and the price very reasonable, had it been better cooked. Must have been an off day.

Recommended in the guide book of the cottage we were renting locally so we thought we would take a stroll up the road and give it a try. A lovely country pub, clean and well presented with a charming selection of old (and VERY comfortable) leather armchairs and settees. Landlord and staff are very welcoming and nothing seems to be too much trouble - we enjoyed a very nice pint whilst perusing the menu. There are the usual pub staples, combined with some specials which change daily and according to the season and availability of local produce. All meals freshly cooked and beautifully servedin the well appointed dining room - again, the staff do their very best to ensure that you enjoy your meal. Everything beautifully cooked and the portions are ample. We didn't have room for a dessert!! Sadly, we left it until almost the end of our stay in East Ruston to try the Butcher's Arms - not a mistake we will make the next time we are in the area. We were staying in a holiday cottage with our dogs just down the road from this pub and as they are dog friendly decided to give it a go.Went there for Sunday evening dinner. Customers with dogs can eat in the bar area. We found the staff helpful and friendly. Most of us ( a party of nine) had the roast dinner of either Turkey or Beef, one had meat pie. We all found the food, plentiful, good quality and value for money. I had the beef and it was tender. So the staff are helpful, it's dog friendly and the food is good and plentiful. What more could you want? Well my daughter is a vegan and they catered superbly for her. She had her own menu with about five different vegan main courses. Most restaurants provide a token vegetable pasta dish so that made a refreshing change. She chose the five bean chilli and like the rest of us found it plentiful and tasty. One thing though they don't take cards, so do take actual money to pay. Can't fault this pub.

I personally didn't go to this pub but my husband and three of his friends went there for lunch yesterday. They tend to go out for lunch once a month, have long discussions where to go and as the Butchers Arms was recommended to one of them they decided to give it a try.Two of them ordered fish and chips, one ordered ham, egg and chips and my husband ordered steak and kidney pie with chips. He said the pie was ok, but that was the only plus. The fish was grey, and left an awful taste in the mouth, the ham and eggs were average and everyone said the chips were totally tasteless, hard, but not crispy and couldn't work out what was wrong with them. As for the peas, they were the cheap kind. My husband's friend was upset as he had suggested going there. He is now talking about going out for a meal again soon. Not I might add there!

Heard good reports about the food at this place, especially the themed nights.Went there for the first time last Sunday (Mother's Day) and loved the pub/restaurant and especially the amazing service. The food was above average, but not fantastic on this occasion: the vegetables on the roast dinners were over cooked (almost mushy) and the fish (cod and chips) was also overcooked. The above perhaps due to being too busy. The desserts were very much enjoyed by the party. Looked very yummy.Would I go back again? Perhaps would give it another chance due to family members having had great meals here before.

The Butchers Arms is our local, so was the obvious choice for our Valentines Dinner as we could walk there! Julie often does Themed Nights for an excellent price and this was no different. Three courses with a glass of fizz, coffee and chocolates for £30 a couple! There were several people in, as it was half term there was also a family who dined from the main menu as well. Hubby and I ate from the Valentines Menu and had the fish sharing platter to start. What a platter! Scampi, calamari, fishcakes, whitebait with a salad side and tasty dip! For mains hubby had the honey lamb cutlets (4!) and I had the haggis stuffed chicken with creamy whiskey sauce! Both came with roast potatoes, roast parsnips, carrots and peas.Julie is known for her generous portions and we were both beaten before we could finish it all! We did however have room for a small dessert so we each had a Pot Of Heaven, with Hubby choosing the passion fruit ( so fruity!) and I had chocolate salted caramel! Then came coffee! Hubby likes his in a mug so we retired to the bar where he had coffee and it came with two homemade shortbread heart biscuits! We left with our complimentary chocolates gift wrapped in valentines cellophane, and although this was for Valentines Meal customers, Julie made sure that no-one left without some chocolates, including the family and all the men!Another lovely evening at our local!

Dad had scampi salad and I was amazed at the 18 pieces of scampi on that wonderful scallop shaped plate :) Mum & I had the roast and it was just like a homemade roast, most enjoyable. Prices very reasonable, but I was surprised they didn't accept payment by bank card :( The decor was ok, a bit quirky but I loved the homemade things dotted about for sale :) Also loved all the old sofas & armchairs too!! Keep up the good work, we will definitely be returning.

If you like a pub that's a proper pub with friendly staff and is rather quirky then this pub is for you. Food was good, roast at £6.00 very good, pork, beef and turkey were excellent. The pink dining room was brilliant - more like a tart's boudoir but great fun.We all (four of us) thought it was great.

To start with a positive, the outside of the pub is traditional and full of character and the welcome was warm. Otherwise the bar area looks like it was furnished from the leftovers from a old peoples home, it is mostly sofa's and chairs that make my 85 year old mothers house look modern. The food is in the same era, our fish, chips and peas clearly came out from a catering pack from the freezer. The pub on a Saturday lunchtime was empty, as we entered my I instinct told me to turnaround but as we were hungry and were told the kitchen was closing at 13.45 we needed to order now so we did.One of the worst pub meals I have ever had, I love quirky and old fashioned, this place is simply odd. We left half finished meals and half finished drinks. We visited a garden nearby and the person at the ticket desk she would never go in the pub, but would not say more as she did not want to be negative. My advice is go elsewhere.

Visited for the first time recently and warmly welcomed by the barman into a lovely beamy olde world bar area. Having got our drinks we were, for some reason as the pub was not full, shown into a separate dining area which is so pink and girly it hurt my eyes! The decor was way over the top and the piped music was only needed to cover our conversation, it being almost empty. Nearly everything on the menu is £9.50 being too much for what is mostly a huge plate full of chips. Not sure what the £6 roasts are like and why they should be cheaper. Don't think I'll be going back. Cash only. I think they need to catch up with the 21st century.

The pub is a bit of a step back in time, no problem. One end looks like my nan's back room but never mind. We only stopped for one drink because the barman/owner announced that they had no cider!!Two of us are cider drinkers so that was a real disappointment, doubly so as we were staying in East Ruston, a stone's throw from this pub. Needless to say they lost our custom for the duration of our holiday. Their loss was our gain, we ended up at The Star, Lessingham.Fabulous pub, super food and.... You've guessed it.... Barrel loads of cider

If you want basic home cooked meals then come here- we have had a few meals here now and have never been disappointed. The decor of the place is unique and will not be to everyone's taste but the welcome and friendliness of the place is great. Its a traditional Norfolk pub and long may it continue.

What a find! The food is home cooked, plentiful and varied and SUCH good value. We arrived without sufficient cash (they don't seem to take credit cards) but were welcomed and were told that they would supply us with a bill and we could wend them a cheque in the post later. We obviously looked that hungry! Suffice it to say we returned pronto after the meal with the cash. You donlt get that sort of service often nowdays.

Nice meal, decent beer and the staff could not have been more helpful when sorting out a choice for my 4 year old granddaughter.. Does feel like you are stepping back in time coming from a fairly modern city to rural Norfolk.

Arrived on a cold. wet Sunday lunch time to an equally cold welcome in a nearly deserted pub. The barman was rude and dismissive and seemed to regard us as an annoying interruption to his conversation with a friend! Lunch was good but the plates were cold. The only saving grace was the very nice woman who served us and also, I think, had cooked the food. The Butchers Arms does not accept cards, only cash which seems extraordinary. We shall not return.

I attended this pub with 27 others for our AGM (North Norfolk Morris Minors) as others have said the decor is not one of these poncey gastro pubs that seem to infest this area but what you do get is honest wholesome food and lots of it as well as extremely good value. The staff and chef were very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble, my steak and ale pie was to die for, really well cooked tender beef with proper thick gravy, roast spuds and fresh veg all bar the peas, for dessert I had lemon lush and it was, we then we finished with coffee....all for £11.50 a head, don't know how they do it for that price. All the meals arrived within good time so no one was left waiting around for their meal. I will certainly be calling again. If you want decor by lawrence llewyn bowen with a wilderbeast lemon compote served with lightly fried nettle flowers on a bed of rose petals at 30 quid a portion then this isn't the pub for you, if however you want honest food in a traditional pub then give it a try.

Very quiet (early Wednesday evening), out of the way, cosy, welcoming, traditional pub with some excellent value and quality food. Quirky décor and 60's crooners quietly doing their thing on the PA along with Cash Only (No New Fangled Credit Cards here !), soft leather seating in some areas and some interesting? pinkish bunting and dining area only add to the experience. My wife enjoyed the Pork Roast @ £11 + Treacle Tart (with Ice Cream) for £1 extra !! and I finished off a whole Rack of BBQ'd Ribs (with Chips) @ £12. Hope to visit again before returning home at the weekend :-) .Note: This pub is Closed on Monday's

Have popped in occasionally and had the most delicious pie and gravy. Was in the area Saturday and thought a lovely pie and gravy will go down a treat on such a cold day. Saturday luch time, no pies on the menu, just a very basic baguette, omlette, baked potato menu, really disappointed. Should have guessed, very sparse of dinners. Ordered the egg baguette, to be told a minute later 'we can't get hold of any eggs'. So all the omlettes were unavailable too. I've just been to a farmers market down the road that's full of eggs and pies! Cheese baguette ok, very cheap colesaw on side( sorry being really picky now). It has changed hands and don't believe the menu online, we won't be going back.

Great staff, amazing views, nice range of beers. They continue to do a great job on the pier, we are so lucky to have it. It's a treasure that has been beautifully maintained.
