We’re staying near Bude and met up halfway with another family who were staying in Looe. We hade a fantastic afternoon in the the pub playing darts & pool, and chatting with the locals. Such a friendly pub full of character. Flo was a wonderful, friendly host. Thank you! We’ll be back! Chris

Nice beer and some lovely people but also a group of 4 young 'men' who enjoyed bragging about which prisons they'd been in. How they'd been greeted by having faeces and urine thrown over them and constantly dropping the f and c bombs. And what did the landlord do? ... Joined in their conversation and encouraged them! I'm glad the child with the lovely family, trying to enjoy their Sunday lunch, was a baby - too young to pick up on the language. Classy joint! Such a shame as it could be such a great pub.

To start with have to say I love the atmosphere of the pub. It is farly large and on the main street in Callington. We booked in here early for dinner as we had to go somewhere afterwards so there were only a few tables occupied. Staff were really friendly and the food was ready quite quickly. We had a couple of pub classics, Hunter's Chicken and Scampi and found them delicious. Also noticed that this is a dog friendly pub which adds to the traditional feel. Serving times are up on notice boards. We will visit this pub again as it is local for us.

To have one bad pint is bad enough, but two is unforgivable! Awful beer, both the Legend and Jail Ale. Should have known something was iffy when asked if beer was alright upon being pulled. A shame as it's location is good and the food looked good too.

We had a lovely meal food was good, nice pub food. However some of the locals didn't seem right. There was a man who was drinking and he has a small Airedale terrier that was going for everyone's dogs and my toddler walked up the stair and the dog lunged for my child.. this left me extremely on edge worrying about if the man would drop his dogs lead again. management need to not allow aggressive and unpredictable dogs in. Staff were kind and helpful

Dropped in for 4 pints and thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff were exceptional. Lady behind the bar--small, light, big glasses, ponytail--was welcoming and friendly beyond the call of duty. Engaged me in conversation whenever I came up to the bar. Makes so much difference whether one stays or not. When Londoner landlord (Tony?) served me, it was similar. Chatted to me about myself and was natural and charming with it. It's the same lively pub as when I used to sometimes drink here in the 80s, passing through. The rooms have been knocked into one, so it looks different; but it still has a traditional pub vibe, with good wooden seating and tables set off against the stone walls. Atmosphere was vibrant. The locals were loud and full on--my type of folk.

This was our first visit we went to this pub as we could take our puppy. The Landlady was friendly and made us feel very welcome and there was a nice atmosphere. The food was great we both had the lamb curry which was really tasty, full of flavour. Would definitely recommend great food, nice people and good service. Also a bonus being able to take our puppy who was also spoilt rotten by staff and customers. Thank you we had a lovely evening and will definitely return on our next visit.

Visited the Bulls Head at Callington as we we were passing through on our way to Plymouth. Well it was the best decision we made. Tracey the bar Manager was phenomenal. Just when we thought the hospitality and welcoming couldn’t be surpassed along came Tony and Carmen the landlord and land lady. Closely followed By John McQuillan and his lovely partner Andy Good who looked so in love even giving us a personally rendition of YMCA. And my husband after tasting the range of ales and beers actually left with them. We heard from all customers how wonderful the food was that we will be returning tomorrow evening for the Gingsters Thursday Club and to sample Jim’s extensive menu which apparently is second to none. 10/10 to all who were present they are a credit to Cornwall and have made our holiday. Roll on Thursday can’t wait to return tomorrow x

We visited on Saturday25th July 2020, something of a treat having visited family after months of not being able to. We had been told that we could expect a great welcome and great food. Sadly the food was not on offer we were a tad late. the welcome was unreal. A Scottish lady and a huge lad who we think was called Bradley were very welcoming. We sat in the snug a smaller area to the back of the pub. It was a lovely evening to start with but as the night rolled on, it got louder and more raucous, maybe to be expected in a local but just weeks into "the new world" we though a little too raucous but in our bolt hole cubby hole, we felt ok! The whole evening was ruined by some idiot proclaiming to be the landlord! A London accent, loud, brash, arrogant, foulmouthed and rude.! Lording it up like some east end geezer (in Cornwall! Really) Frankly a total moron who completely took the whole ambiance to a level not befitting the worst pub you would ever have imagined visiting in your worst nightmare. It was clear that social distancing was in place, the "landlord" had other ideas, encouraging others to huddle, dance, sing and generally break every rule in the book! With great reluctance and given the limited options of dining on a Sunday in a local rural town we went back on Sunday for lunch. We thought we had walked into a different pub! Same décor some familiar faces from the evening before but what a difference. A lady called Tracey, welcomed us and seated us with complete professionalism but with a very friendly attitude, she took the time to welcome us and asked if we were on holiday and welcomed us to Callington/Cornwall. Beyond efficient, she bought our drinks and explained that due to covid there were no menus but the roasts were, Lamb. Pork and Beef with all the trimmings then left us for a few moments to enjoy our drinks. Upon her return, we ordered. Our food turned up in a timely fashion and it was delicious. Roast Beef and Roast Pork with the most amazing crackling. The rosties were piping hot and crispy and the veg..... Cauliflower, peas, swede and carrots. Alongside was a small dish of heaven, cheesy mustard leeks. WOW. Such amazing value for money. Sunday was am amazing day and we have a high regard for Tracey and the young man who delivered our food. Opps forgot the mention the desserts! Sherry trifle - like mum used to make, even had 100's and 1000's and a Panna Cotta that was to die for, with a passion fruit sauce. The food was excellent. Tracey was a great host, very attentive and the whole experience was in complete contrast to the shambles of the night before. Would we recommend this place? Yes and No! If you go and encounter a loud mouth short stocky incredulous Londoner, leave! If you happen across Tracey, or the Scottish lady then yes absolutely stay and enjoy everything the pub has to offer. Great ales, and great food. It's such a shame that our first visit to this pub (Saturday) was marred by such an arrogant, foul mouthed drunken idiot who had no regard for anyone but himself and frankly was rude to us, his hardworking staff and some of the customers including ourselves. Sunday, as i have said could not be more different. Respectful, covid secure and a very pleasant experience. Subsequently, we have established that the moronic foul mouthed idiot supposedly landlord is called Tony. We also believe that he is not in the pub that often but humbly suggest to him that his whole attitude is contrary to the general ambiance of what is a great little pub in the heart of a Cornish town. 100% for everything but him. Thank you Tracey and the Scottish lady who were a credit in the face of adversity. If it had not been for our encounter with the "landlord" we would have scored 5 stars.

Ate with a group of friends on a busy Friday night. Order time to table time was reasonable for freshly cooked food. We had between us Cottage Pie x 2, Fish Pie x 1, Cheese and bacon burger x 2. Food dishes all arrived within a couple of minutes or so of each other so we all ate together. The bacon cheese burger was among the best I have had, simple. Smoked back bacon slice, lovely cheddar. Topped with 3 onion rings. The burgers were home made, and it showed, in taste, texture and appearance. The burger was amazing. Chips, crispy outside soft and fluffy inside, chunky chips and a lovely side salad. Simple food, but so nicely done. All dishes were completely empty at the end.Exceptional value at £8.95 for the loaded burger and chips and salad. If I'd paid £14, I would still have had very good value. A bunch of happy diners. Thank you the Bulls Head.

This is a small pub in a small town in rural East Cornwall.Food quality indifferent, refurbished bar pleasant, staff attentive, prices similar to elsewhere. I doubt much of the food is made on the premises. Looked and ate like freezer food. Easy quick cheap. The Gammon meat sold as 'roast' looked and ate like warmed up ham with gravy on it. Served to table meals should arrive sizzling hot. Ours were not.

A Saturday night with just one bar staff and one waiting on tables! Waited ages for beer at bar and equally for food order. We came in at 7.30 and advised that already out of 2 of the 4 meals ordered. The lasagne was the tiniest little square ever and the pastry on the pie was undercooked. We thought we would give a pudding a go only to be advised the chef had gone home...at 8.35 PM!!! What poor service and bad manners to just up and go home while customers were in the middle of their meal and not even asked if they wanted a pudding before the chef swaned off home! This used to serve great pub food and the service was always wonderful..sad the new owners don't seem to care and allowed this to happen on their watch!!

We have walked past this pub many times and recently decided to stop in for a meal. Really enjoyed the food and you can chose to sit in the main bar area or in a smaller dining area. Although it was mid-week enough people to have some atmosphere and nice decor - I believe recently renovated but still retained an original old pub. Easy parking across the street in the old Co-op car park.

Have regularly eaten and drank here over the last few years. New owners have taken over and while the beer quality is still great. The food has gone down hill. This was the second time we had eaten under the new owners. We order the gammon because is used to be a great dish. What we received was a salty gammon, peas, onion rings and thin chips.Gone was the lovely quality gammon, thick chips and salad. I think in the future we will only use the pub for drinking and eat in other pubs in the area.

Four of us went for a meal at the pub without a booking - no problem. Staff were very nice and they were playing good old fashioned music over the speakers (at a reasonable sound level - you could hear others talking - music was 60's and 70's - not always like that our waitress said - live music is loud). Plenty of choices for drinks - had a very nice ale - food was ordered and appeared in good time and was really good (I got some strange looks when I asked for them to leave off the mushy peas - don't like them!). We're all from New Zealand and it's amazing to see dogs in the pubs - not allowed back home - but they are all well trained and didn't give any cause for concern - in fact it's rather nice to see Mum, Dad, the kids and the family dog all out for the night! We had been greeted nicely when we arrived and got a good send off as we left. Very hospitable - if you're in Callington area I'd recommend the Bulls Head

After having a major overhaul last year The Bulls Head in Callington has transformed itself into a very nice place to eat, drink and meet friends. The modernisation has created a much more spacious drinking area and a pleasant lounge area for more comfort without losing its character. On holiday for a week and we visited 3 times. First time was for a drink only, second for an evening meal and thenthirdnfir Sunday lunch. On all occasions, service was friendly, attentive (without being in your face or false) and courteous. Our evening meal was a beautiful piece of grilled haddock in a very tasty sauce with vegetables and potatoes. We also ordered a side of truffled mac n cheese. It was absolutely amazing. Sunday lunch was probably the best I've ever eaten as a pub dining experience and I've eaten a fair few in my 59 years. We opted for the 3 meat version of beef, pork and turkey. The vegetable selection was interesting and perfectly cooked. The giant yorkshire pudding was delicious but for me, the roast potatoes and gravy were the jewels in the very large crown. There was no room for pudding but on our evening visit, we did share the amaretto chocolate torte, which was fantastic 😀. For the quality and portion sizes, I would say The Pityme Inn is excellent value for money.

Tasty - stopped in to grab a takeaway sausage roll and iced bun. Sausage roll was excellent and will be returning! Coffee was also good. Easy free car parking outside.

The staff were very friendly. The hot drinks were alright and the cakes were alright. They didn't rush us. The whole atmosphere was really nice and lovely. I didn't have to raise my voice to speak to my boyfriend who has a hearing impairment which is a hearing aid.
