Honest review. Oh no, says The Bull! Drinks? Good selection and considerably cheaper than elsewhere. Food, traditional pub grub and out of necessity only available mid-week onwards. However experienced the Sunday roast first hand and can confirm it is excellent. The pub itself is clean and tidy, well laid out with large dining area with bar area including some very comfortable leather furniture but using the latter you need to take care, there's a dartboard behind you! Customers? Good mix, all sorts, they even let me in Lol. Nice garden with tables and benches. Adequate parking. But what makes a pub? In my opinion, the staff and here they are excellent, very friendly and helpful. I have only been a regular for about 6 months and I can see even in that time the pub is becoming increasingly popular. Highly recommended.

We ordered our selection from the menu at the bar from friendly staff and enjoyed our drinks while we waited for our food which was all freshly prepared. A stream of good natured locals continued through the door all evening adding to the friendly atmosphere. We had the chicken curry, the Gammon Steak and the vegetable bourginion pie which came with a side of red cabbage like I have never tasted before, sweat and melt in the mouth, chef was kind enough to let me have the recipe but I fear I may struggle to reproduce it. This pub is recently reopened and is now a delightful traditional pub location serving breakfast, lunch and dinner and with a selection of community evenings for various enthusiasts, a classic car meet and a Saturday morning motorcycle ride out were on the boards for the next couple of weeks when we visited. 5 stars from us! Thank You!

Group of elderly people had lunch here on Thursday 25th July very well organised. We had name place settings with what we ordered on the reverse, ( brilliant idea) especially with those who had forgotten what they ordered. Food was wonderful, beautifully cooked Ian and the staff were so attentive could not fault them. Nice new decor in the large function room downstairs. The dessert homemade cheesecake was my choice it was exceptional no added chemicals BEAUTIFUL and tasty well done chef all round n all a lovely lunch and a great price will definitely go back.

Never been to this pub before but it’s recently been refurbished and the menu looked good so we thought we would go for a meal on a rainy Saturday lunchtime. We shared Camembert as a starter and it was lovely. Then for main my partner had the mussels with chips and I had the lamb flatbread. The mussels were nice but not worth the money, the portion size was small and no separate bowl came for the shells or a spoon for the sauce. The lamb flatbread was very poor quality. The meat was absolutely vile, very fatty and it was meant to come with Mediterranean couscous. The couscous was just plain with chopped cucumber in it and pomegranate - very tasteless. I mentioned how poor the lamb flatbread meal was to the waitress and she said she would speak to the chef. Anyway she was gone for ages and came back explaining the meat they use for that meal is lamb rump which is a good cut of meat and the couscous was what came with their order that week. Well why advertise something totally different on the menu in terms of the couscous? Then the bill came, still with the lamb flatbread on it. The best they could do was 20% discount! I’m not one to usually complain but I’ve worked in hospitality and if you want people to return this is not how you carry on! We definitely won’t be back.

I visited The Bull Inn with my friend on a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon. We wanted somewhere where we could chill and just relax in a garden with a few bubbles after a lovely river walk. This we achieved here...its clear to see that the new management team are working hard to turn this pub around!! Everyone was very polite and when the odd mistake was made they couldn't be more apologetic! The interior is looking good, clean and smart and I also noticed a dart board too for you dart players! We stayed for drinks and had a light bite (nachos). Was planning on having more of a lunch but we were told to be fair that they were running a limited menu. Being a nice day we were hoping to see a salad or 2 on there (they did have a ploughmans) or a few more lighter bites rather than full meals. The food that we did see come out looked good though...burgers, fish & chips, ham egg & chips. The garden is still a working progress but there are table and chairs out in the garden for you you to soak up the glorious sun when it appears!! We stayed all afternoon...it was just that relaxing!! For you dog owners out there, dogs seemed to be very welcome plus they are building a dog grooming cabin at the end of the garden. Please everybody give this pub a try and help it build up its business again!! I will definitely be returning at some point! Many thanks for a lovely afternoon!!

I am still in absolute shock at how we were treated. My wife and children were told to f off out their pub at least 10 times before being told we would be thrown out if we didn’t leave. We were leaving just not quick enough I suppose. We only questioned the quality of the food which is supposed to be fresh, my children were served smash…that’s not fresh food and a kids meal is £10 each! I was with my 2 year old playing in what you could describe as a play area when I was approached by one of the owners shouting at me from the doorway. I couldn’t say a word before the tirade of abuse rained down from discriminating comments to profanity around my children, absolutely awful and will be reporting to trading standards! DO NOT GO TO THIS PUB, you will be disappointed!!

Having visited this pub many years ago with fond memories I was excited to take my family to the fun day….what a mistake. “Farm” was a few chickens. The bouncy train had grey water sloshing about in it and if you survived that you had to navigate a swingball to get out. Queue for drink was 20 people so didn’t bother. Stayed 10 minutes and left. Will never visit again.

Not as expected. Animals are just Chickens, Ducks and Rabbits in small dirty cages. Skip with Rubbish in bottom of garden next to the animals. One person behind bar serving and queues for a beer taking over 20mins, when I did eventually get a pint it tasted off. Couldn’t drink it. Had to queue up again for a bottled cider. Bar serving soft drinks from 2l bottles bought from local shop. Food over priced £6.50 a hotdog) and only a handful of tables in garden to sit down. Bouncy Castle dirty with water, moss and full of wood chips. Avoid.

. The bouncy castle was dirty with water all in none of the kids could use .. the animals were chickens and ducks that was unclean with dirty water and not enough space. There was not enough bar staff so had to queue for drink over 30 mins with dirty glasses and warm coke out of bottle… the food looked awful everyone was complaining! And there was no where near enough seating! Definitely not what you expect as an advertised family day out!

Went to the family day. It wasn’t thought out at all. The lay out was terrible. If you sat in the garden area by the playground it wasn’t easy to get to the BBQ, animals, live music, as they were round the other side and not easy to get too with a pushchair- which I had. It was a constant struggle with the children going from one place to the other. The bouncy castle was dirty. The play ground area looked like it was about to collapse any minute. It all just looked a mess!! The food was ridiculously over priced. £6:50 for a cheese burger! 😳 Was told there would be half hour wait for a small portion of chips. It wasn’t even that busy, just think the staff had no idea what they were doing. Seemed flustered. Will not be returning to the pub again. Shambles.

Came for family ‘fun’ day, not enough benches, animals in over crowded pens, skips and piles of rubbish at the bottom of the garden, soft drinks served from bottles, warm drinks, filthy glasses, got warned against even buying food and was shown a black sausage which was raw in the middle, even the kids complained that the bouncy castle was full of wood chips and water … and no responses defending this please! Totally inexcusable we asked for local recommendation and left

We got there at 12.30 and after 30 mins we managed to get a drink. We managed to get a bench outside to sit at as I am disabled. My daughter went to queue up for chips and burgers for the children as we thought it would be the quickest and how wrong were we . 45 mins later and only 2 people serving we decided to call it a day. Everything looked dirty, the bouncy castle/train was unusable because it was full of water , moss and leaves. They advertised it and didn’t even clean it, it was disgusting. The so called farm was just a few dirty enclosures with not much grass and a few chicken , and sheep in. We left after not being able to get food for ages and went into Maidstone to get something. Never will we go back there as there was just a lack of staff. 2 cooking food and taking money and 2 people serving in the bar. I was in the trade for 25 years and you always get extra staff when you have some kind of function on.

I visited with my two children & friend, with their two children… The “farm” isn’t a farm at all it’s one house and a badly cared for sheep in the smallest of enclosures with no grass just mud! Then some pens packed with geese and chicken that barely have any space to more! Then there is rubbish and sharp bits of wood, metal a big heap right in the middle of the “farm” which had been stacked up to have a bonfire…. Did I mention the “farm” is also at the back on the car park…. It’s TERRIBLE! Then we went inside.. Wasn’t bad but I’d never go back! The floor felt sticky where it was dirty, it’s a kids family fun day and ketchup and been over pumped every where no one even bothered to wipe it up. I was served my kids Icecream by a girl who told me she was 13 and to be honest looked like she hadn’t washed her hands in a month. Then the food… was awful!!! My salad was disgusting ! My friend ordered a tuna salad…. It was dry tuna thrown over a big bag of leaves, when she asked for mayo she was told she’d have to pay extra ?? But of the family fun day was that each child could eat for £6… It was TERRIBLE all 4 kids didn’t touch it! All had nuggets and chips… my 7 year old said the kids tasted like nail polish remover and the nuggets was fired so much they was rock hard. I didn’t expect Michelin but I did expect edible. The mascots that then came out looked like they was from the 80’s and hadn’t been washed since The play area was ok, but a broken fence & gate meant the play area was open to the car park The bouncy castle lasted all of half hour and broke but it was filthy and covered in moss. Just over all terrible & dirty! The worst thing for us was how they advertised this as a “farm” they need reporting for the care of these animals ! I wish I’d seen the Facebook reviews before even dreaming of visiting this place !

Where do I begin, What was planned for a nice day out ended up turning very bad, Firstly when we arrived they had no record of our booking which from other reviews is a common issue at the bull, Then after waiting around 30 minutes to order drinks we were asked if we could keep it simple as the waitress couldn't remember and then tried to only give us a jug of water and forgetting the kids drink, We were told it would be a hour wait for food which was fine then after around 2 hours i was then told I must pay before the food which I was told was being dished up, Then after around 15 minutes I went in to ask and was told another 15-20 minutes for food so went and told my family then coming back I was then told they had no idea when the food would be ready , I know you couldn't make this up could you but wait for this. The so called owner Dan came out and become aggressive to my partner and intimidating to her when I was not there and then stopped when I went in clearly trying to bully a young woman with a child (Disabled child at that) and clearly a coward of a man as he could not look me in the eye, Then my partner told me she had asked him to do chips for my 5 year old non verbal autistic son as he was very hungry and does not know how to handle these feelings and was becoming stressed to him replying 'SO WHAT' I then told him I wanted my money back and he disappeared to hide in office and sent waitress to give me refund, We then went back to garden to collect our items and others asked us what had happened as they had also been waiting hours and most people were disgusted by this, Lastly he then also came out to bar us and I asked him why he was barring us as he had discriminated against a disabled child and the coward had nothing to say clearly has a issue with disabled such a shame in this day and age. Also very disappointing during this pandemic with people dying they are not practicing any COVID-19 rules with not enforcing mask, No social distancing, No hand gel and no track and test what so ever with the owner Dan himself flaunting the rules as per attached photoAlso they have wrote a review themselves pretending to be us even copying our order of food and advising how lovely it was as I stated I would leave them a review really is unbelievable they have now been reported to the local licensing authority

I witnessed a young lady complaining that she had been waiting for an hour and thirty minutes for some chips for her autistic son to which the landlord replied well I'm dyslexic so he's gonna have to wait the girl became upset he then told her to leave that they were no longer welcome . Absolutely shocking upon witnessing this we promptly left my advice to the young lady as I left was to contact the local licensing authority and make a complaint.

This review saddens me to write in an already difficult time for hospitality but no one should have their day ruined!!I booked here after seeing it online - petting farm live singer and Carvery. We was celebrating a special birthday and this would be the first time meeting up after a long lockdown, it started with a mess up on tables, which was sorted. We put in our orders and paid promptly and went to see the petting farm, on our way there was 2 tables who had their meals saying this is the worse food they had ever eaten!! The petting farm was a sad looking place!! We returned to our table where we waited and waited and waited for our starter, then they came to say there is no Tomato soup (we had waited 45 minutes already, so we chose again and waited and waited and waited, we was now at 1 hour 40 minutes!! I asked where the food was and the live singer and was told “singer has had a operation” and food would be here soon as they was sorting the just eat orders first!!Finally the starters arrived (not terrible)Then the wait for our main meals began and we waited and we waited and we waited, after being in the pub for 2 and a half hours and only a starter eaten with no main course in site, we gave up and I asked for a refund (even this process was painfully slow)! My advise would be if you like the food and want to eat from there then you should order it from just eat as this appears to work better then trying to eat in the actual pub!!All in all a total shambles, and at almost 4pm we had to go and find an alternative place to eat!!

We rang The Bull Inn on Friday the 2nd of October to see if they were open on Mondays and if we could park our motorhome in their carpark and have dinner in their restaurant there; basically to confirm what we read on their website. They confirmed everything was fine, they were open on Monday evening and they were happy to take our booking for a table at 7:30pm. We arrived early, it was scruffy around the back but we had made our commitment. However when we tried to enter the pub/restaurant it was in complete darkness and the door was locked. The place was closed. Clearly the management are either totally irresponsible or have no idea how to manage a business. I suspect it’s a mixture of both. In truth the state of the place had put us off so perhaps they did us a favour. We moved on to the Bo Peep in Chelsfield, Bromley where we received a lovely reception and superb dinner.

Wouldn’t recommend this to eat or for a quiet drink. I met some friends here at 3pm in the afternoon and the music was so loud we couldn’t hear each other. The food was also terrible.

Took the children for a lovely meal out, They had a wonderful selection of meals to choose from, While me and my husband were chatting away the children went to go and look at the animals or play on the climbing frame. Absolutely beautiful evening, Thank you to the lovely owners for giving up their time to let the kids hold the rabbits...... will be back soon

I honestly cannot begin to explain just how awful these two are. This is the place that compelled me to set up a TripAdvisor account. The staff are so rude. One of the guys that runs the place was just wondering around in his tracksuit. I'm pretty sure it hadn't been washed. Grim!My other half ordered from their takeaway menu due to lockdown. We wanted to make sure we were still supporting businesses that were bound to struggle. What a mistake! Not only did the order take 2 hours to be cooked but then we had the wrong food delivered. The food that was delivered looked like it had been vomited up by a 2 year old. We were met with snide remarks and terrible customer service. When Boris finally lets us back in to pubs, avoid this one at all costs!

We came as a fairly large group of walkers needing a watering hole en route as weather was certainly not in our favour! Treated ourselves to food from the lunch time special menu, great to have a traditional homemade lunch, a choice of pies plus a range of other traditional dishes. Will definitely be back to try the Sunday carvery soon.

Thought I'd give the new owners a try but was a shambles from start to finish, 1 of the owners didn't have a clue about measures! 1 didn't know how to work the till, we were going to eat but decided against it when we see other meals coming from the kitchen. One lady was complaining about her burger. There was a man also walking in and out of the kitchen with hi vis clothes on, that put me off straight away!So we stayed for a few drinks then left! Pub looks nice though.

The Bull Inn is a fine establishment, the moment I walked through the door I felt the instant warmth of the lovely open fire the in the corner, with the comfy lounges to sprawl out onto. Its is a family friendly place with great food and prices to go with it. The people that run the pub are fantastic, they are very friendly and welcoming and would make anyone feel comfortable spending time in their nice venue. I would recommend the Bull Inn to everyone, its a genuine, feel good place to go.

Chaotic behind the bar with staff running to & fro to little effect. Service was slow, and some of the carvery food cold when served - cauliflower cheese is my favourite, and this was a disappointment. We’d been meaning to go for ages, but won’t be rushing back.

Went last night and the food was absolutely delicious and the portions huge! I had the Thai vegetable curry, husband had the lamb, both really good. The brownie sundae was good too, but next time we’ll ask them to hold the marshmallows. Totally enjoyable meal, we’ll be back

The bull inn advertised all over groups on Facebook that at Christmas they would have a full four course vegan Christmas menu. I organised 6 of us to go on the 7th December ‘19 (probably one of the first groups to try said menu) and even though I paid a deposit and pre- ordered 1 month in advance -on the day we only had starters and an incomplete main as the food hadn’t come in.

Second visit after a successful dinner the other night. In my opinion the best pub around now it has attentive and caring management. Rob and Colin are excellent hosts and the decor is modern and clean. The food is basic but done well and very good value. Now with the added incentive to become a local by way of themed nights it is surely a hit and currently a pleasure to frequent. Let's see when it becomes truly busy as it surely will if it keeps to the same high standards. Definitely worth a visit.

I popped into this pub after a dog walk for a drink and some quick lunch. I ordered a burger and chips at 13:00 when the pub only had a small amount of people in. After an hour I still had no food so I asked the chef whom seem to have no idea what I wanted. They then said that the looked for me and couldn’t find me. Which I find hard to believe as I was the only person with a dog and was sat next to the bar so hardly hard to find. They offered me the food for free however by this point the chef had told me that the food had been sat there for 25 minutes and no one collected it so didn’t fancy eating this.

As the the title suggests we only popped in for a couple and ended up staying all afternoon and evening. The singer was fantastic, such and amazing voice with matched the feel of the pub perfectly. What a lovely way to spend an afternoon/evening a few drinks with my partner and my parents sitting in front of the open fire. The staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough and I thought the new owners did a fantastic job on what was a very busy first weekend for them. Will definitely be heading back soon.

The new owners have not made a good impression on me with their first Sunday Carvery. Under the previous owners the carvery was great but despite retaining good, experienced staff the new owners have gone in with changes on their first weekend and not all of it good. Obviously there will be teething problems until they find their feet, but the existing staff know their customers and know what works. Bring in changes by all means but get to know your customers first before losing them all with brashness and unwelcome changes. I would have walked over hot coals to get to the roast potatoes before, but not the ones served up today! Have spent the afternoon with a greasy taste in my mouth. Fingers crossed things improve over the next couple of weeks otherwise I will be looking for somewhere else for my weekly treat.

Rang the Bull fairly early Sunday morning to try and get a last minute carvery booking for later the same day with a couple of friends of ours. Julie answered the phone and was very apologetic, informing me she may be a member of staff down due to illness the previous day, and if they didn't come in then she may have to reduce the covers for the day. She invited me to ring back towards lunchtime when she would have a better idea of the situation. As we all had a penchant for a roast dinner on a rare Sunday without our young daughter, we really didn't want to miss the opportunity! Pleased to say Julie saved the day and booked us in for a late lunch. All four of us had a different choice of meats and all of us said how well cooked they were. Yorkshires and veg were all good and particular credit goes to the lovely roast potatoes! Only slight disappointment was the lack of cauliflower cheese as I love a good one of those, and the fact my wife was a bit slow going back to get some more of the lovey roasties with some gravy as they had packed it up for the day (we were the last of the day). Julie (who carved the meat) was pleasant and chatty despite running around all over the place. One or two of the younger service staff were a bit 'green' but as I now understand from her comment to a previous review some staff were new and in training. it wasn't a problem and the young girls were very pleasant and polite to us. Beer was nice and well kept (Sussex Best) and not stupid money.

Visited for sunday lunch in a group. The waiters are polite but poorly trained. Lack of service and attentiveness to customers. Multiple times we had to go and get things that were missing like cutlery, source, bread etc. The food was good and some of the food was delicious. Again service on the carvery was poor. Just hovering round waiting to be served at one point. I would unfortunately not return.

We were visiting a nearby farm so looked on trip advisor for a nice local pub. The reviews on here looked ok so as it was the nearest we booked a table. Very friendly staff and a good menu choice. A few homemade options too and special diets were catered for. A very pretty, modern and clean feel to the pub and all the food was delicious. Perfect day thank you.

Went here one evening as staying local for the weekend. Food order (scampi and pie. The latter being “highly recommended” by the bar staff who were pleasant enough), took nearly an hour to arrive despite the fact we were the only two people eating in the whole pub. Pie was basically a filling (which my other half said was tasteless) with just a pastry top which sadly was not fully cooked in the middle despite the long wait, both chips were warm, not hot. Whilst they say food is cooked to order it doesn’t take an hour for what we ordered to be cooked. By the time we did get our order they had stopped cooking. Wouldn’t return. Found the Sunday Roast much better both in taste and value at The Victory by the bridge popular with boaters and locals.

We arrived about an hour after first cook time of the evening and wanted a simple English meal: we'd been here before but not for a while. The menu was nearly all spicy with the exception of a sirloin steak or gammon, eggs and chips. We went for the gammon. Approximately 40 minutes later (I'm being generous) the meal finally arrived. when I asked why the delay I was told "the fat in the fryer needed warming up". As stated we arrived an hour after first cooking. The ham was fatty, discoloured in places and the darker meat had a very disturbing taste. The eggs were overcooked to the point where every part of them was hard and they were sprinkled with some form of green stuff: possibly to disguise the taste. The chips were quite dry and tasteless as I would expect oven chips to be, and if these were deep fried the cook is a genius. One of the worst meals it has been my misfortune to attempt: never ate all of it as couldn't get past the funny flavours. Explained all this to the bar lady who said sorry and I'm not sure if the sorry was for the meal or for the fact that she had to put up with me complaining. I would write to the licensee but there are no signs telling me who they / he / she is. I shall know NOT TO GO THERE again.

Phoned the day before and was told that we didn't need to book a table in order to eat, yet the following day we turned up and was refused food as we hadn't booked a table, even though we were told not to book the day before, wasn't able to book one there and then either, staff weren't accommodating and actually quite rude. We ended up going to the fish & chips

Chilston Manor hotel is a lovely hotel with friendly staff but I and my husband were very disappointed with what they call a luxury afternoon tea…we had three little finger sandwich's with hardly any filling in them….dry scones…what was nice was the sausage roll,we had to ask for the tea as it didn’t arrive, when it did it was stewed & strong…will be returning NO !!!!

UPDATE… This store has been run into the ground, the lovely staff members have all left, one very nice young man “sacked” for a pathetic reason. We now go to Sainsbury’s and buy large rolls and fillings and make our own. What can one say.... it’s a big roll with filling. Staff mostly friendly. Can run low on fillings towards the end of the day.
