Absolutely perfect experience. We came for our 30th wedding anniversary for lunch and it was perfect. Genuinely faultless food , should be at least 2 Michelin stars . Having eaten at 2 of Kerridge's places recently I would rate them as good quality , certainly not Michelin starred compared to The Bull. We'll be back with more of the family and friends

I really enjoyed The Bull. It's happy noisy and you need a torch to read the menu, but the atmosphere was warm and inviting and the food was excellent. Most of the dishes are pretty simple but they're prepared using seasonal local ingredients and the quality is evident in the taste. We were a large group, so it took us a while to work out what to choose from the menu. However, we were served by the Manager who was informative and clearly very passionate about The Bull and its mission. For example, we couldn't decide on our wine choice so he brought us several wines to taste. He also explained the provenance of the food and suggested different combinations of dishes that would complement each other. All in all, a lovely evening out.

Visited as a stop through town. We walked through the door and the host was on the phone, thought nothing of it as it wasn’t busy and decided to go and find a table for ourselves. We were told we needed to be seated by the host by another member of staff. So we were then stood back next to the host whilst he finished his phone call and another family walked in, they were then seated first by another member of staff. The host had then finished his phone call and proceeded to seat us, sitting us at a large table outside. Then we were presented with the menu - a small sheet of paper with two words describing each dish. Cucumber, mint £15 Flat iron chicken £19. When the server came to our table we were asked if we needed help with the menu. I mean really, what sort of place has to ask if you need help with the menu, clearly aware that it ridiculous. We asked about the children’s menu as there was nothing in n the table, we were told Sausages, fish goujons or chicken… okay with what? We have never been anywhere more pretentious in our lives. Get a grip and get some new chairs the ones outside are rusty. (Food was rubbish by the way)

Was given a menu and showed to our table, menu is quite ridiculous, and very expensive looking. 20mins later we still haven’t anyone take our order so I go to the bar and get some drinks. Another 35 mins later, drinks all finished we still haven’t had anyone take our order. My family are by now starving,we couldn’t wait any longer and left to go elsewhere. Place is trying to be too trendy as far as we were concerned, food on other tables looked ok but definitely not worth the money. Place is way too dark and lit by candles. 12 1/2 % service charge on the total, shouldn’t be allowed, tips are for a good experience. Would certainly not return or recommend to anyone.

It’s a lovely old pub in a small village. A romantic setting for some drinks by candlelight. The staff are very good and the service is spot on. But I could not see my meal. Which is a problem if you’ve ordered the pork chop, because although it’s cooked perfectly and carved, there are gristly bits on the plate. You don’t know what you’re picking up. It’s difficult to give a restaurant top marks when it’s as overpriced as this place is. Yes the food is good, but this is taking Cotswold pricing too far for what you get. By the time you add a side dish or two (because it doesn’t come with anything) you’re into 40-45 quid for a main course. It’s just too much. It’s nowhere near fine dining, which is a good thing. But the prices have to be reflective of the food you get.

As someone who has eaten at The Bull multiple times yesterday made me feel like I never want to go back. I arrived at around 1pm and the place was practically empty which seemed odd. I then asked about a regular food item, their heavily promoted pie, that is now missing from the menu and was told it was taken off because who wants to eat a pie and mash in the summer? Well, I do. So how rude. Without the pie, there is nothing remotely suitable on the menu for a pub lunch or that's what I presume because the silly menu fails to provide any clues as to what you might receive on your plate other than the raw ingredients. The prices have also risen by pounds overnight when they already had to be making a very healthy margin. I emailed the marketing manager at the head office to advise of my experience and all he did was stalk my social media rather than provide any reply. I guess that's a typical millennial response. So I am done with the place. There is no room for rudeness or arrogance in a village pub or anywhere else.

Came across this completely by accident while looking for somewhere for lunch. Amazing building with that typical English olde worlde village pub atmosphere and the staff were welcoming and friendly. We had not booked but they managed to find us a table. The food was excellent - well prepared and well presented and the range of drinks was good. My only criticism would be the price - and I am aware that we would be paying 'Cotswolds' prices here but nearly £90 for a three course lunch for two in the midweek seemed a bit steep.

Overwhelming price for Underwhelming food - it was not awful by any means, but it was not very good - and their prices should mean that everything should be either really good or indeed great -- Costly fish (which one would not mind if it were excellent) was a bit over cooked and had lost it's moisture. Overall, the food presentation was somewhat lacking and a little unappealing. Our wine was good. The service was fine and the staff could all describe how things were prepared and cooked which these days one would expect. Sadly though, we left somewhat disappointed overall with the experience, and £260 lighter of pocket for the two of us, which we would not mind spending, or indeed more, if the experience and food matched the spend, which The Bull did not.

We live in Charlbury and visited for an evening meal on the 19th May 2024. The staff were friendly and courteous. The decor was bare and "cold". The music was not soft and relaxing. The cutlery was very old ( you could pick this up cheaply in charity shops or low quality antique shops, nothing matched. We were very disappointed with the menu choices and quality of the food especially the vegetable accompaniments. I had the The Bull Pie - Chicken and Ham, it came served on mashed potato the pastry was soft and thick. The chicken was dry and over cooked, not sure where the ham was and there was very little gravy/moisture within the pie and it was not served with gravy on the side. The vegetable choices were so poor we opted to share the beetroot and ricotta as this was at least to be served hot - Two beetroots, barely warm, unpeeled so tough on the outside and hard on the inside. My husband had the Pork chop which came with 2 asparagus spears, he thought there was mash but, no, he shared mine and we shared the beetroot. The chop was charred on the outside and the fat had not been rendered but the meat was good. I had a Bull Whippy which consisted of "Mr Whippy" style ice cream served in a half pint beer mug with a chocolate flake. My husband had Rhubarb and custard meringue which was very good. The bill was £94 which included 2 glasses of wine. Poor value for money. The Bull used to serve great food - we will not be returning or recommending until we see a change in the menu.

We spent two days in the Cotswolds and the Bull gave us a disappointing experience. The waiting staff were all pleasant & the service was faultless. The food however was full of faults. The red mullet (starter) was fresh but the fish wasn’t scaled properly which means it wasn’t cleaned properly. The langoustine ‘gravy’ didn’t taste of anything and was just a watery extremely salty fluid. Main course, Brill, fries & green salad. The Brill was well cooked but the fries, served on a side plate became cold, tough and tasteless very quickly. The green salad was simply lettuce leaves lightly tossed with salad dressing , to call this salad is a huge stretch. All in all I felt the food had been cooked with little skill, care or understanding of food . The company needs to invest in some new and appropriate crockery. We regretted dining here & the bill of £160 made us both feel ripped off. I would not recommend eating here. Thankfully, after chatting with the staff back at the hotel where we were staying they’ve now removed the Bull from their recommendation list. Bad food Never has the hype of a restaurant been so undeserved.

Sadly this did not live up to the usually reliable reviews in the Michelin Guide or The Times. Awkward seating arrangements (table wrong size for banquettes) and a gloomy interior set the tone. Crummy cutlery and dogs a la table. Charming and adaptable wait staff. OK food, but nothing special. Some so called hot dishes were cold and we returned a steak which had the briefest of searing. Salad straight from the bag. Very expensive wines - some very nice ones but a poor range by the glass. We didnt stay for dessert and the coffee machine was broken down.

Really underwhelming! We went for a family birthday meal having heard lots of hype about the place. Atmosphere - When we arrived the place was absolutely packed and the downside to this being a beautiful old Cotswold building is that the stone floors and walls mean that the sound from all of those people echoes and the place was too loud for a conversation to be had at our dinner table! Lighting - Also, they have tried to create an intimate atmosphere with the lighting, but have gone way too far. It's so dark and for most people almost impossible to read the menu without holding it right up to one of the candles or using phone light! Menu - When we read the menu, none of us were blown away by it. One of the party was a vegan and this place isn't geared up for that. In fairness, we should have done some better research beforehand. They did try to accommodate and made something up for her, but decided to use the same sauce for both the starter and main! Food - I must say, the food that we did have was very nice and cooked extremely well. Price - Personally I was expecting the prices to be higher than they were. I think the pricing is fair and reasonable. Service - Poor. We were waiting ages to order, for the wine to arrive, for the bill to arrive, and then to be able to actually pay! In summary, the food was good as was the pricing, but it was everything else that lets the place down.

Very disappointing and expensive pub food . The menu has too much fishseafood with little other choice. We had to ask for the table to be cleaned as it was sticky to touch when we sat down. The only starter I could choose was a green salad. I had the flat iron steak - chewy but then it is a cheap cut but no other choice of steak other than rib to share at £90! . You need to order sides otherwise just meat on the plate with a bit of horseradish . However my husband enjoyed his fish starter and main of pollock. They serve the sides on flat plates so the food goes cold really quickly - nothing worse than cold mash or soggy fries which we experienced . Beware- we were kicked out at 8.40 ( table was for 7.00pm and we were on time).Very rushed and unpleasant as we hadn't finished our meal and no time for dessert, music was too loud - not a relaxing Saturday night out. Service was attentive. Overall not good value for money at over £130 for 2 people with one bottle of averaged price wine.

It's had new owners/management from last May, and was a great pub. Not so much now. It seems to be catering for the "Chipping Norton Set", with zero "pub food" and just expensive Michelin style food. Went with my brother, 5.80 a pint of non alcoholic beer. Hoping for a classic nice burger they used to do, but no. Food on menu isn't clear with what comes with the main, starters are all fancier style now (read small and min £16+), no chips. I had one item that sounded ok of the "bar snacks", and they didn't have it (1 hr after opening, not busy either, so not sure how that ran out). Asked about bar crisps. Nope. Seems they want all pub style food gone. All the comfy sofas have gone as well!

The Bull is situated on a cross roads in the pretty old part of the town very close to the station . There is no parking at the pub itself and limited outside parking. The building is beautiful and well decorated with a good layout and bar area with lots of space and two large fires that were lit and warming . Large outside space at the rear . The menu uses local producers and is based on a kind of pick and mix share principle . There are mains and smaller plates together with sides mainly to share . 16 quid for a veg plate was I thought was high. I admire the ambition but the food is just ok.

As we had heard that this was a good trendy place we booked for dinner. However, we found the experience very disappointing; the reviews have overrated it. The pub was very crowded so the service therefore somewhat slow. The staff were good, but over-worked. More significantly I ordered a steak which was completely inedible - so chewy I couldn't swallow it. The prices are ridiculously high for gastropub, even by Cotswolds standards, especially since the vegetables have to be ordered separately - £16 for a dish of green vegetables for 2 people is outrageous. They weren't even particularly good. For dessert I ordered a chocolate mousse which had so much salt on it was barely edible. The manager did credit the steak dish, but despite this, with only four glasses of wine the bill for two was over £140. The building is an old pub but the ambience is no better than many other Cotswold pubs and suffers from being too crowded.

What a magical find! We booked dinner here last minute as a family of 4. It was a wet evening and as soon as we entered we were made to feel so welcome! Beautiful pub/ restaurant with lovely decor! If only the fireplace had been on but that didn’t deter! We ordered some lively starters the aubergine starter with bread was yum and for mains we had standard fish and chips and myself a lovely veg quinoa salad and veg option for main which was wonderful. I think having a more set kids menu option for variety would have befn better but nevertheless they enjoyed their food and the different icecream flavours! The service is what made this place, nothing was too much of an ask, food arrived promptly and the kids loved it! Extremely clean and very covid secure! Thank you!!

We recently stayed in Room 7 at The Bull Inn, and it was great. Staff were super friendly, the food was excellent quality and a step above 'pub food'. Breakfast staff were super accommodating too. Will definitely stay again.

We called in for my first post lockdown pint. They only had one real ale on offer so I went for that. When it came time to pay they told me how much which I duly paid and I (for once) took the receipt. They had slipped a 75p service charge in without my knowledge and subtlety noted on the receipt that it was optional.I won't be going there again.

Arrived 7 July, just after LockDown was winding down. The food was great. The safety precautions were as they should be. We wandered in off the street looking for a bit of a celebratory lunch for a 73 year old’s birthday. It worked. The old man enjoyed it. We had the shared platter of cold meats etc and hand pulled IPA. It felt like a special day. The young lass behind the bar was delightful. The one way system, and other anti- virus precautions were sensible, and we felt quite safe. Our first meal out in 3 months, and we enjoyed it.

Aceptaron aceptar La reserva nuevamente.

We walked to this little pub from the neighbouring village where we were staying. Our dog was welcomed too. Had a delicious breakfast with great fresh lattes in big mugs - just what we needed. I had the brioche French toast with cinnamon sugar and fruit compote - it was delicious. My husband had a full English breakfast which was also very good. Would highly recommend this pub.

Luckily we were able to book a table on Sunday (poor planning by me). The service was superb, we were offered drinks as we sat. The food was ordered when the drinks were served. The starters were delicious, we opted for a sharing plate and some snacks - the belly pork stood out. We ordered the main courses of roast pork, lamb, a burger and halloumi burger. The meat burger was clearly homemade, thick if not slightly decadent within a soft brioche bun. The halloumi was described as the winner, well balanced and tasty. Both roasts came with crispy roast potatoes, carrots and greens (no need for additional side orders). Dinner for 4 came in at £30 a head, with no one having any room for dessert - but a couple of us did have some coffee. This is a pub with a restaurant/tables that does good food. It is not overpriced. We nearly did not book due to the previous reviews and actually, perhaps that is why we got a table, but if you didn't come because of them you missed a treat. We all really enjoyed our late lunch and can recommend this as a destination pub.

For £17 the Sunday roast was sorely average. The gravy was thin and watery. The sticky toffee pudding was lacking in stickiness to say the least, just a few cold biege blobs where the sauce should have been. Won't be rushing back.

Service was good and the coffee average. Where Costa Chipping Norton exceeds all expectation is in the grubbiness of the furniture. All of the soft furnishing looks like it has been a recent victim of incontinence. I would have sat on a chair but fear I might have caught the plague off it. Burn it all!

Went later than normal lunch so wasn't so packed and sat in the undercover corridoor just outside the giftshop entrance. It was quite cold out in the courtyard and indoors seemed a bit chaotic with lots of staff clearing tables and kids running around. The ordering line blocks the view of the cakes so you need to be in the line to see them, but it moves so slowly and you can't get a good look at everything all at once which made me bounce between decisions a lot. The location of the clean trays didn't make sense and I had to leave my spot in the line to pick one up. Others in the queue didn't mind though so I was able to jump back in, but not before another couple hijacked my empty space to get the till operator to fix their order which had something wrong with it, leaving me standing there a little awkwardly holding an empty tray for a while. With my poor eyesight I couldn't make out the small writing on the menu which was way back behind the till and everything turned out to be quite pricey but that was expected. Ordered a carrot and walnut cake, sausage roll, and a latte. My coffee was excellent, though I had to stand there with a loaded tray waiting for it as it was the slowest moving part of the process with only a single barista and machine. The susage roll was still hot and really tasty, and the cake was fantastic. Staff were friendly and helpful.
