Sunday roast. Service slow, food portions good but bland and lukewarm. Atmosphere not helped by pub being cold.

What a lovely place with a welcoming staff and a roaring fire. The pub must be about 600 years old and it has retained its character well. The carvings on the bar are something quite special. We have been in a few times since the new Landlord/lady took over and it’s hasn’t disappointed. We even came for Christmas Day and the food was incredible. We had heard that the chef had changed over the New Year so we came in for Sunday Dinner today. We were not disappointed. The proportions are big and the quality is really good. Piping hot too. We will certainly be back again and I’d have no issues recommending it to anyone - just don’t bother with breakfast before you go!! Kids seem to be most welcome and there is good disabled access. The car park is huge and is matched by the size of the beer garden (which will be outstanding in summer!!).

Chicken wings starter no tast and very little chicken on not good value at £6 main courses were good although the pepper corn sauce at £4.50 a portion is way over priced and no dessert menu at all

What a find! Lovely traditional country pub a couple of minutes from Filey. Excellent home cooked food; ‘drunken cow’ was the best steak and ale pie I’ve ever had! The rest of the family loved their food too (Mediterranean pie, stuffed chicken, burger, chicken nuggets). Really friendly staff with a wonderful and hilarious chef Prices unbelievably reasonable. Will definitely go again if we’re in the area. Thanks for a lovely night :)

A friendly country pub with brilliant food. I had the steak and ale pie and it was amazing. I'm still thinking about it now :). The barman was very friendly and you could tell the chef really cared about his dishes. He came out after we had eaten our food (which we all thoroughly loved) and checked to see if we enjoyed our food.

Me and my partner travelled from Grimsby and were staying near Killerby. We were struggling to find somewhere nice to eat and saw this place on Google and thought the food looked nice so drove here. I ordered the burger and my partner ordered the fish. The burger was the best burger I’ve had in a long time and my partner said his fish was the best he’s had (and we’re from a fishing town) The staff were so lovely too! Always eaten here ,we have a caravan at primrose valley, and always recommend bull in to our friends and guests, not no more ,the main course was nice ,but we had garlic mushrooms as a starter ,which we have always enjoyed before,this time they were shocking and tasted of vinegar and not of garlic ,we told the waiter ,we were not happy with the starter and we couldn't eat it ,when I asked for the bill I was charged for the 2 starters,I asked 2 speak to the manager, who came out of the kitchen ,she was rude and said I had to pay ,NEVER AGAIN BULL IN

Call up last minute for a table, very helpful and managed to find a table. Great service food friendly staff, children welcome, cosy village pub. Will go again.

Sunday roast dinner was superb so went back Friday night and the homemade chicken,ham and leek pie was to die for. Bonus was the pub is dog friendly.

Lovely, quaint little country pub in Gristhorpe, near Filey. We were on a Haven holiday in October, out of season, so it was fairly quiet when we went (Thurs evening) and there were only about 2 other tables occupied. The staff were so lovely and attentive and provided a really great service! The food was lovely, with generous portion sizes. I highly recommend this place and would visit again!

This is a great place for traditional pub food and drinks. Reasonably priced good quality food and drinks served in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The Landlady & her staff are very welcoming and can’t do too much to serve you. I strongly recommend booking a table in advance to dine here as it’s very popular.

Lovely back street pub! Didn't have food but the food coming out looked gorgeous and generous! There was a live folk band playing which was really nice to listen to while sat drinking the beautiful afternoon away! Definitely come again.

Excellent food and lovely staff .....service was excellent too...there was a couple of mix ups with order but was instantly rectified.. Steak pie mash and veg was lovely steak was very tender .curry had lovely big chunks of chicken . The gourmet fish fingers in the children menu were a bit of a let down as expected battered fresh fish but came as breaded fish fingers like out of a box from the freezer but it was still eaten as my granddaughter was hungry ...the choc sponge was delicious ask for custard as it is a rich chocolate pud ! It still went down well ..all in all it was a lovely meal ....would go again ...

Lovely Sunday roast with our dogs and the best thing is that you can buy a roast dinner for the dogs which we did and took it back to the campsite. They thoroughly enjoyed it, thank you 🐾

Ate here a few times on our recent holiday, absolutely faultless. Delicious fresh food, lovely selection of desserts. Great service as well, there were lots of staff and they kept checking everything was ok.

We went to the Bull Inn for lunch last Sunday, the staff were friendly and welcoming (even though our party had 5 dogs) It was a carvery and the quality of the food was amazing, the portions were very generous and the service was excellent. We were so impressed we booked to go again on Thursday and can confirm the bar menu/food was equally as good with very generous portions. If you're in the area I would definitely recommend booking!!!

Bit confused by The Bull. We stayed on a campsite nearby and it was the “recommended” eatery. Walked there (2.5 mile round trip) one day and it was closed. The note on the door said they had posted the closure for the day on Facebook due to unforeseen circumstances. Acceptable and not that much of a problem. Walked again on the Friday evening (7pm) hoping to have a meal but realising it may be too busy. Were quite surprised to see no one sitting outside and a few inside. No one eating. Asked if they were doing food snd was told they were fully booked. Really??? Decided two visits were as much as we were prepared to give. The Toll Bar up the road were fantastic in atmosphere and quality of meals. You takes your choice and pays your money. Reply to their reply. Really not miffed at all, we had a lovely meal at The Tow Bar thank you. I still say there was absolutely no one seated or eating outside, nor in the bar area. I saw no one eating at all. Not what I would expect from a fully booked establishment with generally good reviews.

Proper good country pub ...fresh food , well cooked - pub grub , very tasty Sunday lunch - the puds weren't home made but everything else was so nice and fresh , it didn't matter !....cosy , comfy , lovely staff,very helpful and efficient .... good bar , well- kept , dog friendly with a pretty garden area ...ample parking ....highly recommend for a good value meal in a friendly , attractive location .

Turned up at the Bull with no booking for 2 adults and baby who needed high chair on a busy Saturday evening. Staff were very welcoming. Home cooked food absolutely beautiful and massive portions. Service was best I've ever had, very attentive, kept asking if we needed more drinks and if the meal was ok. Nothing seemed too much trouble. First class experience

Went for a meal on are last of holiday. My wife and daughter meal was fine. I ordered a 12oz sirloin the meal was cold as the waitress didn't know which table had ordered it after she visited numerous tables she took it back to the kitchen then came to our table asking had I ordered a rump steak? No took it back to the kitchen only to return saying it was sirloin. Half was inedable fat and tendons couldn't cut with a steak knife. Didn't have the energy to complain but surely a 3/4 full plate would be a give away.

Just finished lunch at this large and lovely, traditional pub. Seated and attended to immediately, with our drinks order and left to peruse the extensive menu. Looked a little on the pricey side, for a group of four on a budget, so we ordered accordingly. 3 had fish and chips, the fish was huge, overhanging the plate, batter was beautifully crispy and the fish, soft and flakey. I had the chicken in peppercorn sauce. A full chicken breast, cooked to perfction, with a rich and creamy peppercorn sauce.All four meals were served with large, chunky, triple cooked chips. Four very full bellies, which put the pricing, well and truly into perspective. Would thoroughly recommend.

EDITED: Upmarket eatery, don't bother if just wanting a drink. Poor selection of cider, Strongbow only normal and dark fruit, no bottles except kopparberg, 2 pumps but only only one beer on when we walked in which was an average tasting pint of black sheep at best according to my mum, staff uninterested after pouncing on you to see if you've come in for food. NO I HAVE NOT REVIEWED THE WRONG PUB!!!! I'll add rude staff to this now and dock another star.

Toilets absolutely terrible and no disable toilets or baby change toilets available. Also staff are not considerate towards those with mental or physical disabilities. Don't go to this pub if you have disabilities.

I very rarely give negative reviews but the Texan BBQ burger was THE worst burger I've ever had by far and cost £15! Patė was tiny and the taste of Pepper was very over powering, it was absolutely disgusting and couldn't eat it and fed it to the dog.

Expensive £5-50p a pint , cost £15-97 for 2pints and a hot chocolate. Food ain't cheap either

We (including our dogs) received a warm welcome at this dog-friendly pub. The food was delicious (and good anti-Covid measures are in place.) Highly recommended. Update: visited again. The food remains very good, the service friendly and dogs are welcomed.

Booked a table but I didn't realise the lady on the phone forgot to ask for my name until I was pulling into the car park. I thought she would have atleast written it in the table reservations. When we arrived a young lady asked if we booked a table, I explained what happened she went to check with a lady behind the bar who looked like a manager who said their was no booking in the diary. There was atleast 6 members of staff at the till just staring at us, they could not offer us another table inside not even for a short space of time. The manager couldn't even be bothered to come and talk to us and hear what happened for herself. I definitely won't be going back, shocking customer service, one of the worst I have ever experience in Yorkshire!

Staff delightful, very friendly and brought the dogs a bi of water as soon as we sat down Veggie burger special was truly delightful and the fish and chips of beautifully large proportions at a time when other places are cutting back. Very happy customer.

Can't fault this place. Vegetarian Sunday roast was simple and delicious. Staff without exception were friendly and efficient. A really enjoyable experience all round. Think carefully before ordering a large roast! The medium was more than enough for me and I'm fat and greedy 🤣

Yes a decent meal, loved the hanging kebabs, the halloumi was a novelty but good. We had limited time as it was busy and the table was pre booked but no problem we were hungry and needed feeding!! Will go again when in the area.

On the plus side, lovely chips, three of our four meals were fine,but on the negative front lamb burger not so good and as soon as we entered were ushered to a table where 3 other tables were occupied, when rest of pub was empty. Would have preferred to have chosen our table not so close to other diners. Prices a little on the pricey side too, particularly for the wine.

On holiday in the area, my son booked us both in for Sunday lunch as l love a roast dinner. It was spectacular, we had a good variety of fresh vegetables, we both had roast beef it melted in your mouth delicious. The staff were all very pleasant, thankyou all for a very enjoyable meal. If you like bland, tasteless, overcooked and overpriced food then go here. All chicken dishes were bland and overcooked, chicken goujon starter was sent back and a new one brought without apology for the poor quality by the manager. Creamy garlic mushrooms should not be sold as such as there was not a trace of garlic on the plate, maybe even the pub. Creamy sauce tasted of literally nothing. Both starters were almost £8. Nearly £18 chicken kebab tasted of nothing and chicken and leek pie had anaemic chunks of chicken in a watery sauce. 1 star redeemed for the frozen glass provided with my bottled beer. There are barely any other pubs in the area and this one fully takes advantage of this by marking up the price for poor food.

Thoroughly disappointed. Cannot remember the last time I was charged so much for food so poor. The chicken wasn't even seasoned and was unbelievably dry. Obviously taking advantage of being one of two pubs in the area that serves food. Had there been anywhere else I would have left after the disgrace of a starter.

Stopped here for food and we were not disappointed. Portions were generous and food was fresh and delicious, highly recommended

Cosy country pub. Took the dog too. Home cooked, delicious and huge portions. Managed to book a table last minute on Sunday evening and we were all so pleased we did. Four clean plates and full bellies! Really happy with the choice of vegetarian food, i had the vegetarian lasagna which was made fresh with quorn mince. Also came with thick cut home cooked chips like what your nan makes in the chip pan! Lol Would definitely recommend and will return when we go back to the coast!

10 of us went for Sunday lunch last and the dinner was so,s but not great. Mash was cold and we had very little gravy on the meat, which led us to ask for more, no one told us this would incur a charge for the smallest jug ever. When we got the bill they charged us £1.49 per jug!! The dessert were great but wint rush back.

Been here twice in the last few weeks. Mother’s Day for lunch - 9+ a high chair. Food was delicious & even though they were packed to the rafter nothing was two much trouble. Every mother were treated to chocolates. Called yesterday, three + high chair. Went for tea & the staff again were so pleasant, plus being very good with my grandson who in the high chair who was adamant he was going to have his daddy’s knife & fork, he was brought a spoon which did the trick, it was just his. Again the food was amazing. Can’t fault this place.

Disappointed. Was asked for drinks before we’d even sat down. They wouldn’t serve us tap water, this is illegal for a licensed venue under uk legislation. Excuse of cloudy water doesn’t hold as we’ve been drinking Filey water for years. No drinks menu or price list. The 3 J20’s ordered were the wrong flavour and arrived in glasses, they could have been anything. Food average and overpriced. Hunters chicken saturated in BBQ sauce and the salad was old and partially rotten.
