We booked the Piebald for a 3 night stay with our dog! We was greeted and shown to our room which was lovely, we chose to eat at the Piebald on our first evening and the food was lovely, however the service was lacking that attention to detail, service was a bit slow considering it was a fairly quiet! We was overcharged for our drinks, which was sorted at breakfast the next morning after we brought it up! Breakfast was ok cooked breakfast was nice, lack of choice for continental, a bowl with fruit and cereal and no yoghurt, no eggs Benedict, I expected a lot more after paying £145 a night! Couldn’t fault the room, service was average unfortunately, friendly but sloppy and lacked the detail you expect for that price.

Having read a recent scathing review, we must say that, from first arrival to leaving, we couldn't fault the staff in any way whatsoever. Yes, there is currently a kitchen problem, but this is fully indicated on the phone message if you could bother to call first, as we did. It was also explained by the staff, with sincere apologies, that this unfortunate and unavoidable problem was through a very genuine reason, and had nothing whatsoever to do with the owners, who we found extremely approachable, pleasant and helpful. As for staff leaving, and then coming back, this was entirely down to Covid and furlough, and the fact that the staff so affected came back as soon as was feasible suggests that they also were very happy with the establishment and the owners.

Arrived this evening after a great day walking up an appetite on the cliffs of Flamborough for a birthday treat meal for my son and our family. Sat in the beer garden waiting to be served as advised when we were overlooked by both the waitress and proprietor in favour of other customers that arrived after ourselves. When the waitress could actually be bothered to take our order and we asked for menus we were advised that we were not entitled to have a meal as we were not staying at the camp site or had booked months earlier. This was 20mins + after arrival. No mention of this at the entrance or carpark which would have been nice or even for someone to approach and advise on arrival. When I suggested they should advise customers of this she just said she had been there 2 days and it had nothing to do with her. Fair enough put the proprietor had as mentioned walked past us at least twice blatantly ignoring our presence. I now understand after arriving home that they have lost their catering staff and this is on the website but we were as many others will be passing trade. Total arrogance and lack of customer appreciation or communication. Disgraceful and probably indicative of why their staff have left them. Clearly it would have been themselves that have kept the place running previously as the owner clearly hasn't a clue.

We have visited this place on a number of occasions when we have been staying in the areaWe pre ordered pies on the morning of our visitOn arrival we were informed all the mash had gone even though we had preordered it so we had chips - not a good startThe pies arrived and 2 were great, tasted good and were packed with filling The 3rd was very disappointing with little to no filling. My wife doesn’t like complaining and ate what she could but when we were asked if everything was ok I couldn’t help myself and told the truth. The lady said she would tell the kitchen. No apology was given and no goodwill gesture so we paid £12.95 for chips, peas and crust with a curry sauce fillingWhoever plated that meal would have known it wasn’t up to scratch and it should not have been servedSorry but 2 out of 3 isn’t good enough and therefore we will not be returning

We had a meal at night which was amazing (best pies ever) and staff were great, at the end of the night the owner was sat near the door saying goodbye too all the customers which was really nice too see. We went back in Friday for breakfast and the lady serving was so lovely and friendly. Can honestly say was the best breakfast we have ever had. Can't wait too come back !!!! Highly reccomend

The landlord, landlady and staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The food and service were both excellent, the pies are so good and tasty, extremely good sized portions as well.Even though there is a reduced menu, there is still plenty of choice. The system to comply with the current requirements is straightforward and was well explained.Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area, many thanks to all, we will be back!

It was very average and not sure the contents worked with a pastry lid.It wasn’t that big and could easily have eaten more - it certainly wasn’t overwhelming.Wine was excellent and in a good glass - Pinot noir.Definitely worth a visit and go for a meat pie!

Been here before in the height of Summer and service was very slow. We assumed it was due to the time of year but we were wrong. Went last night, booked a table and were told there as a 20 minute food wait which we were fine with. The food arrived an hour later (after changing one of the choices, we were told that one of the choices had run out after waiting for 35 minutes!). Anyhow, good points lovely, polite young members of staff, food nice and fresh, lovely ruby mild beer and Covid safety was excellent. Might return for a drink but food service is far too slow.

If you want a Gluten free pie do not go to the Piebald Inn at Hunmanby. It says online if you want Gluten free pies you need to ring 24 hours in advance, this is ok and i don't mind. I rang 48 hours in advance to give them plenty of time I told him which pie I had chosen and told him the day and time. He told me that it was ok.When I arrived I told the lady I had already ordered so she took our drink order and my busband ordered his "normal" pie. Ten minutes later they came back to me and told me the manager who took my order had not put my order through to the kitchen so therefore I could not have any pie, they offered me some pie filling with mash potatoes I then walked out in disgust and very upset they don't realise what it's like to be Gluten free you build your hopes up to having lovely food and then get let down. I travelled 60 miles to Piebald today and then 60 miles back home with no lunch.

No atmosphere and suffering from a lack of TLC. Menu was not limited but actually almost non-existant. Should have left before ordering. Good portions but chips were underdone wedges, mushy peas just stodge, no sides available and could not help but feel we were eating leftovers. Both our pies were dry and stale and the gravy weak and tasteless. Felt a bit embarrassed for the waitresses. Paid over £40 for 2 pies and 2 pints. Expected and paid for better. Will not revisit and would not recommend.

'World Famous Pies' they say. Mmmmn....................We went here with friends a couple of weeks ago with high expectations ahead of TA reviews. Sadly. it was a disappointment. We had booked for 4 but turned up with 6 as some other friends had arrived unexpectedly. When my wife asked if we could have a table for 6 the waitress said, 'I'll see if I can squeeze you in,' sarcastically. Given the empty echoing spaces inside the pub you'd think they'd be delighted to have additional customers.Menu was very restricted to what is offered on the website, and I mean severely limited. One of the party was drinking Wold Top and they ran out of that on our second round of drinks. This was around 8pm on a Saturday night. You could throw a cricket ball from the front door of the pub into the brewery so there's really little in the way of an excuse for being the pub with no beer. Pies were rather dry and the pastry could have been used to tile the pub floor. Rock hard ; like granite. Fillings were ok' ish but the impression that I got was that none of the food was fresh and that mine at least had seen the inside of an over on several occasions. The liver in mine was very dry.The Piebald Inn was devoid of any atmosphere at what should have been a busy time. It wasn't. I know it's hard for pubs and restaurants to make a living during Covid and we've done our best to support small businesses. The overall impression of the Piebald Inn is of a business running on fumes. Seriously people, a smile, a welcoming face, some beer to drink and fresh food will make all the difference, although I suspect that may be too long a list for them proprietors here. Would I visit the Piebald Inn again? There are lots of other places to go before i'd even think about it.

Recently stayed at a local holiday park and saw the sign. We rang and booked and weren’t disappointed! With an amazing choice of pies, changed daily, all named after horse breeds we opted for our choices from the chalk board. We are asked to take a picture of the board and then we’re seated in a horse themed annexe of the inn. We can then read all about the pies and make our choice. Although I am not vegetarian I opted for one of the vegetarian pies on offer and it was sublime. My husband and son had one of the beef pies on offer and there was plenty of beef in them! The four of us who (are in a social bubble) where seated on a central table, which had constant footfall around us. Sat very closely to an angling table, we asked for a move, but this was refused, with a suck it leave attitude, due to other bookings, however has the night progressed it was clear there where tables we could have moved to! It was the constant flow of meals staff from the kitchen, it felt unsafe, and frankly like sitting in a corridor, I feel the management team need to reconsider their seating arrangements, I understand they want to accommodate more people in a larger space, but the seating arrangements are not working. Felt quite unprotected,

We booked a table for Saturday night. When we arrived we sanitised our hands and scanned the NHS QR code. We were asked to take a picture of the pies available which were on a blackboard in the main pub area. We were then led to our table which was in a back room which looked like it was an old stable block. All socially distanced. We looked at the menu to determine what pies were available. When they arrived there was a very generous portion! They were both excellent - an 'Irish' which was beef and guiness with very tender chunks of meat and a 'wonkey donkey' which was described as a Christmas dinner in a pie. This was delicious even though the cranberries were a bit sour but I just left them to the side. A good meal with pleasant staff.

We each got a different pie and all agreed it was very good two friends failed to finish the meal but it was no indication on the quality it was self inflicted slightly too much beer the night before (just in case the staff were wondering ) . Staff were great and friendly and the cost we thought was great if not cheaper than what we were expecting to pay for a meal so big and tasty. For anyone worried about covid the staff all had masks/visors ect ,toilets were spotless and the pub was spotless . Also a reduced menu is in force but still at least a dozen pies to suit every pallet available . I’ll certainly be back when I’m next around Filey.

The breakfast was also very nice, there was your normal English full breakfast, which could be changed to your own preference as well as a good choice of cereal or a continental breakfast was also available. The menu has been cut back some due to the current situation with covid but they are doing what they can with what they have and are doing a very fine job of it.These are strange times and all small independently run businesses are struggling to survive and this one certainly deserves to be one that does.Would we go back... Having booked, we were shown to our table and given the full menu for the descriptions of the pies, while it was indicated what was available on the board. Only limited fillings at this time - be warned your favourite may not be available! We were disappointed that chips were not available, but the fryer had broken the previous day and they had not received the replacement. This meant fish and scampi were also unavailable. So we ordered our pies, only to be told a few minutes later that some were no longer available and we had to choose different ones. Next disappointment was the roast potatoes we were offered as an alternative to chips were not available as they had run out! Mash or new potatoes were the only thing available. Disappointed with this, we eagerly looked forward to our pies, and were not disappointed - huge portion of each pie ordered, and we even managed to squeeze in a dessert. Not the usual experience here and the staff were apologetic for it. We will be back, just maybe not too soon.

I had a chicken pie and my partner had a steak one which looked delicious and he said it was, however I was disappointed with my pie was the pastry was raw on the bottom of it so I didn’t eat it. There was no check back and when the waitress came to take our plates I explained the pastry was raw on the bottom of my pie, she responded with OK then walked off with the plates and we didn’t see her again. Only after we’d paid was we asked if anything was ok! I explained about the pastry and got a half hearted apology.

We were seated at the bar whilst we waited for our table (for nearly half an hour) and unfortunately social distancing in this area was not effective due to the size of the space. We booked a couple of days away with my elderly parents and my Sister in law, first time since lockdown. We have been to the pie place in Kelk which was fantastic, was told the idea was originally from the Piebald so we thought we would try it. We arrived on time the lady took our track & trace details, then we was shown to our table. We chose our options of pies. When our food arrived my pie was cold in the middle. I called over a member of the team to be asked would I like it warmed in the microwave or a fresh one, I replied a fresh one I wasn't going to be paying £16.50 for warmed up microwave pie. Her reply was well you will wait a long time, your other guests will have finished. I said that was ok, my family had finished when the same lady came over to collect plates, she made a comment i see you have not got your meal," I said no". Her reply was its because you wanted a fresh one in a condescending way .My second pie arrive 25 minutes later, couldn't believe it the pastry was raw top and bottom so much it had collapsed on my plate, the vegetables i ordered with the pie, the carrot i could snap in half, I demonstrated to the team member that neither was the pie or the vegetables was cooked, she said she would speak to the chef, she then came back from the kitchen and said you won't be charged for that. I would think not because i had not eaten anything. Another team member came over with a desert menu, my husband gave her his choice she then left without asking anyone else. I was left hungry my members of family left without desert. I must say I'm so disappointed in the service and the food. The pies are huge, delicious and full of meat unfortunately two came out piping hot and one of the came out stone cold. When we complained about the cold one the lady said I’ll sort it so we were left with the decision to wait for the replacement hot pie and let the other two go cold or start eating until the replacement pie arrived. After 20 minutes we’d finished our pies but my mother’s pie was a no show. She’d decided she didn’t want to eat alone so we went to pay the bill for what we’d eaten. When we made them aware that they would have to remove one pie from the bill the staff went in to the kitchen and came out with pie, chips and peas on a plate and said “here it’s done now do you want to take it with you” to which we obviously replied no we wanted to sit down and eat a warm meal as a family. Next we were subjected to a 10 minute argument with the lass because we refused to pay for a pie we hadn’t eaten and because she said we should have told her we didn’t want another pie, but we did want another pie just not 20 minutes later. She should have either taken all three pies back and brought out three warm ones or at the very least informed us how long it would take so we could have made a decision. Nobody wants to sit there eating alone after all the others have finished. We’d already waited over an hour for the food to come in the first place. Like I said the pies are gorgeous when they’re hot it’s a shame we didn’t get to try them as a family and an even bigger shame we had to have an argument in front of a full pub of customers about a being charged for a pie that never made to our table let alone our stomachs.

We’ve been talking about this place for years & many of our friends have been and loved it. We finally got booked in for Tuesday & we were looking forward to it. There were two staff that stood out. A lady called Tracy that did her best to fix things and a Scottish Lady who just created havoc. Our table was given away to start. Staff were being marched around with orders and it created a stressed environment. Dog friendly which is good for some. We ordered drinks which came eventually. Took ages to order food as they were quickly rubbing them off the board so felt panicked that we weren't going to get what we wanted. Then we were relocated by the scottish lady as she wanted someone else to sit where we were. Nearly 1.5hrs we waited for food so was almost passed it when it came. Ordered more drinks & then lady spilled it over us grabbing receipt of bottom of glass as we took off tray. Food came, was great, could not fault that but it was just so long & the whole thing was hard work. Tracy kept us going & apologised on other staff’s behalf. Thanks for that. Decided we weren't willing to wait for dessert for another hour. Disappointed

Was recommended this, but disappointed! Considering specialist in pies, what was on the blackboard, did not tally with the server taking the order. This happened with our table and the next table. Staff and service felt a little abrupt. Child's portion chicken pie, for £7.20, was dry, had 1 piece of chicken. Conveyed this to 2 sets of staff, made little difference. If you want a really good pie, for almost half the price, go to the Horseshoe Inn!My pie was full of meat, but considering they are pie specialists, they could be actually better. They need to NOT offer so many pies, make less but better. And serve it better.

Stayed here for 2 nights with another couple of friends this month. Ate in the restaurant the first night and breakfast 2 days and lots of drinks in the bar!.Firstly the hotel. Rooms were large clean and very modern. Patio doors opened to our own terrace, just couldn't use because of the rain! Had absolutely no issues with the rooms at all, faultless. The food. Very busy at all times. Restaurant layout very good especially under current restrictions as was the whole establishment. We all had the pies, what can I say but absolutely superb. My wife doesn't eat pie but had one and cleared her plate, so full afterwards. Breakfast again was excellent, good choice nothing to complain about at all.The staff. Everyone single one of the people who worked at the Piebald we're happy, friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Barbara at breakfast was great fun and a proper character who was so helpful. All of them work so hard. Will definitely return.Thank you to everyone at the Piebald

Despite the menu being restricted, there was still plenty of choice. There were eight of us in our party and only two of us had to make a different choice based on the restricted menu. We were greeted at the door and shown immediately to our table. We were able to give our drink and food order without delay. The food was hot, tasted fresh and as usual, was plentiful. We have eaten here before and have our own favourites, but a few of us chose new things to try. The service was fantastic from Tracy and very attentive. Tracy was thorough to address our needs and was friendly and approachable in equal measure. Puddings were a delight and all in all, we were not let down by the experience.

We returned again, having visited 2 years ago. I was a little nervous, as there had been some less than favourable reviews recently, but pleased to report I needn't have worried.Very good service from start to finish. Whilst the menu is a little smaller than our last visit, there was still plenty of choice. Nice sized portions for adults and kids, delicious pies and some well kept beer. Can't really ask for more?

My partner liked this place, I did not so much. We struggled to get a table when we rang up to book (they said we had to eat at 4pm for a table) but we were the only people in there so I'm confused how they could seat us a little later. Staff were friendly generally. Children's meals were very expensive. The children had sausage and mash and they were catering sausages! Didn't expect this. The wine was warm and I had to ask for ice. The positives... My partner liked his pie, the pub itself was cute and traditional. However the reduced menu was not great. Very expensive for what it was. I personally do not understand the hype here! Would not ever visit again, waste of £75

We called in at the piebald after a visit to the beach. We didnt have a reservation as it was a spurr of the moment visit and was greeted with quite a frosty reception. The pub was more or less empty at the time; and we were made to feel like we had put the staff out by wanting to visit. The service was terrible, staff members were frosty, abrupt and rude.Theres absoluey no atmosphere at all it was so deathly quiet we didnt even feel like we could have a conversation.I see from previous reviews that the restuarant seems to be relying on covid as as an excuse for the bad reviews its receiving; however there is no excuse for bad manners, rudeness and poor service. Customer service and hospitality training are definitley required. Being served a meal by Tracey was like being served by a prison guard rather than a waitress! We certainly wont be going again, which is a shame because the food itself was good.

We come here every year on our annual visit to Filey. It has a remarkable array of pies with a quantity of fillings (pork shoulder, with black pudding and apple is recommended). Usually a large menu means compromised quality, but the pies have always been top notch. The restaurant (& hotel) itself is a well ran establishment with friendly, chatty staff (I spoke to the landlord briefly and he seems a good bloke who genuinely seems to care about the customer experience and running things as they should be). The bar area has all the charm of an old school traditional pub, while the restaurant area is more contemporary and has the feel of a proper dining experience. Well recommended for pie lovers and for an alternative to eating in cafes or chip shops whilst in Filey.

We decided to book this place after seeing it on Four in a bed a number of months ago. My husband and I had been searching for weeks for a place to go but could not agree until we checkout out the Piebald online.. We booked for the 14th for two nights a superior garden room. The room was stunning, spacious and immaculately clean. When we arrived we entered via the bar and was impressed to see safety measures in place with reference to Covid19. We ate in the restaurant on our first night as we wanted to experience the selection of Pies ourselves. The food was excellent, I had the Shewbald and my Irish hubby has the Irish pie. The fillings were very generous and tasty. My only observation would be the menu was limited, I'm assuming due to the current situation.NOW Onto the staff who where all friendly helpful. I would like to make a particular mention to a member of staff who was a master of service and multitasking. Barbara was a breath of fresh air making breakfast a great start to the morning . Such a lovely upbeat lady lady whose service put you in a great mood for the day ahead. After breakfast the first day we left her in the dining room only to find her cleaning rooms next as we left for the day. Day two check out day she made breakfast a personalised service and then again after as the check out lady.. you have a diamond member of staff in her. My only issue was noisy neighbours - sounded like a creche of children wearing clogs Thanks again‍‍

An oasis of calm during my trip this week for work I stayed here and couldn’t be happier. It was immaculate. The welcome was lovely. The facilities and attention to detail superb. The room was tastefully decorated, great beds, bedding good, and hygienic sealed spares if you need a nice touch. I loved the tea and coffee selection , there was even biscuits and mini chocolates. The big fluffy towels are a nice touch , as are the pump bottles of toiletries. I really enjoyed the air con, private terrace, and my own key and private entrance perfect. I had a delightful steak one evening and the pies looked lovely too. Overall especially for the situation we are in, there’s not one thing I would change, and I will be booking in every month for the foreseeable now for work.

We came for an early evening meal. Waited to be seated after using hand sanitizer at the door and leaving a contact for track and trace. So far so good in the light of Covid 19. They are running a reduced menu due to the current situation. We mainly booked here because of its ability to provide a decent gluten free menu for one of our party, yet when we asked for a menu we were told that nothing could be provided or made specially because we hadn’t pre ordered it.During the phone conversation when booking this restaurant I asked if they provided gluten free pies and was told yes we do. Not a single mention of needing to pre order it !! Surely that would’ve been the thing to do !!! What’s the point in advertising Gluten Free. My husband enjoyed his pie it was crammed full of stewed steak but unfortunately I left mine entirely, it was dry, stale tasting and the chicken filling had definitely been re heated more than once. 80% of it consisted of a very thick heavy bottomed pasty. The chips were also jacket potato wedges made soggy by gravy being poured all over them. Terrible. Our Children’s meal was very average and on the side of expensive. It took us 2 hours in total to have one course mid week in the early afternoon. We left without desserts. I didn’t fancy waiting another 2 hours for that. Thank god it was 50% off !!!! Our meal would’ve been over £75. We definitely wouldn’t recommend or return.

We booked a table and arrived at the pub, we were met at the entrance by a lovely lady who sat us at our table. Our Drinks order was taken and then our food order. When the meals came it looked delicious - but a bit over facing as the portions are suitable for a giant!! The pastry in my pie was gross, all soggy on the bottom and about 1cm thick - stuck to my fork! Yuk! It was inedible - but I scraped out the meat and ate that. My husbands pie was a bit better, but not a lot! Not sure if the pies are frozen, not cooked properly or the pastry is just too thick! We did tell the staff that I couldn't eat mine and they discounted it 50%We wouldn't recommend this place,

Our meal was booked for 5 o clock showed to our table and given a menu. We chose a mince beef pie and the lamb barb pie. When it arrived I was disappointed gravy had already been put on my pie and it had soaked through the pie. The pastry was dreadful both myself and my husband left it all. The chips were not as expected they were jacket potatoes cut into chip shapes with no colour to them what so ever. The peas were dried up. For 2 pie dinners and 1 drink each cost 37.10 what we didn't eat. I was very disappointed with this. Breakfast interval morning good and the 2 ladies that looked after us were very accommadating this was on sat 1st August. Bamboozled by this place. Booking - very helpful and pleasant.Arrived to be seated and was barked at by a lady at the door asking whether we had a booking. Confirmed we had and had the door closed in our faces whilst she checked. Then more confusion ensued over the dog. All felt a bit confrontational.Once this was sorted and we were shown to our table. Service was quick and polite. However, that seemed to change once staff were not directly dealing with customers. Older staff seemed a bit fraught. Our food was nice but the atmosphere around us felt hostile and a bit like we were an inconvenience. BUT the food was great - best chips I’ve had in ages and really lovely gravy. The only people that showed any signs of happiness in their work were the two younger servers and the lady behind the bar with brown hair tied up. Definitely wouldn’t have been happy to pay the full price and not somewhere we intend to visit again. Shame really as we had such high hopes.

The restaurant had all the precautions for Covid-19 which was reassuring. Having ordered a round of drinks we ordered our meals. We were told there would be a 30 min wait for the freshly made pies. After an hours wait we hadn’t been given any update so we asked about progress on the food and were told the order had not been processed. Suitably frustrated we left after receiving an apology and a refund for our drinks. The restaurant wasn’t busy when we arrived and there were plenty of staff. However, they just were not attentive to their customers. They may have good pies but they need to work on customer service first.

Visited The Piebald after reading reviews so were really looking forward to our first visit. Booked in advance, not informed of reduced menu, nothing on the website as studied beforehand in anticipation. We arrived at 6.40, table booked for 7 but were happy to sit and have a drink first. We were a party of 4 adults and 2 dogs so were sat in the bar area which was empty when we arrived. Our drinks order was taken and we waited a few minutes for it to arrive although only sitting 6 feet away from the bar. Plenty of staff milling around, answering the phone, getting drinks etc. at 7.10 our order was taken from a very reduced menu, 2 chose pie with mash 1 with chips and 1 with new potatoes. we waited over an hour for the food to arrive. A family sat next to us and a " guest" who they managed to squeeze in. No one else in the bar area. when the food eventually arrived the 2 with mash the mash was luke warm but we had waited so long decided to just eat it as we were starving. The 1 with new potatoes had 2 small potatoes cut in half. The pies were ok, mine the pastry was so thick (corner piece) you could have built with it.We had to ask for more drinks even though the staff were virtually on top of us. The table next to us complained they had been waiting a long time to be told " oh yeah sorry we've only got 1 chef on and people have been coming early so its thrown us !!!!! When asked if their meal was ok they also had cold mash, waitress just said oh sorry about that. After hearing that we decided there was no point in complaining so paid the bill and left. Over priced at £80 for 4 average meals and 2 rounds of drinks (beer). We will not be returning. I understand that Covid has presented problems for the industry but if a pub takes booking they should staff it accordingly. You cannot blame poor management on Covid. A few nights later we went to another village pub in Lebberstone that we always visit on a trip to Cayton Bay and the food, service and welcome was just as excellent as it always is , so it can be done.

I asked to speak to the manager, this is when she told me she was the manager, I said wow I am shocked at this , that a manager could be so rude , she said that she was deaf and that is why, she shouts, I pointed out that I had not heard her shout at anyone else, I have been twice before and really enjoyed past experiences . I then had a horrible young waitress being rude moaning about us to all the staff and some customers, staring and talking as we were leaving , I said to her again that she is rude she started shouting back at me I just kept repeating how rude she was, another customer that was stood outside said yes she has been rude to us as well. Booked a deluxe garden room, which I felt was a little expensive, however it was a very nice room. The shower was exceptionally stiff to turn on and adjust. The gown had no loops for the belt, they were both broken. There was an ample supply of teas/coffees, biscuits etc on the tray. Large, comfortable bed.The restaurant was chaotic. We booked evening dinner for 6.30 p.m. On ordering, the pie which I ordered was no longer available "just sold the last one", so I chose the steak and kidney pie which was very nice indeed. The gentleman at the next table ordered a different pie, to be told none left "just sold the last one". There was only one young girl taking orders, cleaning tables and running about like a headless chicken. The drinks we ordered from the bar never arrived until we asked another lady who said she would chase them up. After the meal we went back to our room for an hour and then went into the bar. It was absolutely deserted and the staff were cleaning up. It was extremely late, 9.00 p.m.!!!! The rest of the staff left and only one lady behind the bar. The owner passed through the bar with his dog, and didn't even acknowledge our presence. There was only us staying at the hotel that night. Breakfast has to be pre-ordered the night before, which we did. We had ordered breakfast for 8.30 a.m. and on arrival there was another lady, flushed, running around trying to organise things. We were a group of 27. All meals ordered in advance. On the night, food was slow out of the kitchen and we resorted to starting to eat before it was all served as it was going cold. One dish was brought out that no-one ordered. It was just left on the table by the waitress. Eventually all but 4 meals were served. Then other tables were being served! We had to ask where the 4 missing meals were! After a while 2 meals appeared. Then the waitress took the cold meal that had been dumped on the table and came back out with it saying it was a totally different dish! In fact, one of the missing meals! It was my table neighbours meal, a totally different named pie to the one that had been originally called. She tried to suggest it was still hot. Considering most of us had finished eating by then, unlikely! She took it away and warmed it in the microwave. Is this hygienic and healthy? It still left one other person. We caught a passing waitress and she said the meal was just being warmed up now!!!! What??? By the time it came out everyone had finished their food . At no time was an apology offered. One waitress made some remark about how it had all got a bit muddled up! If they can't cope with a large party they shouldn't accept the booking. The pies were ok but the crusts were rock hard and many of us left them. Useless service, no customer care.

We have been to Filey Bay for a few days. The Piebald Inn was recommended to my daughter by her friend so we went for lunch one day. All three of us had different pies which were packed with lovely fillings. We all enjoyed the food and would definitely recommend to our friends who come to Filey regularly.

Booked ahead (recommended) 3 pages of pies any imaginable all tastes catered for! 1 page of not pies. Choice of chunky homemade chips / mash / other potatoes. Local seasonal veg / peas or mushy peas. We had a side order of beer battered onion rings beautiful. Massive portions! Great friendly service and value. Not posh but clean and well looked after. Crazy amount of gins and a great selection of real ale. Their own is lovely. I have common food allergy (anaphylactic) and a rare one - they were great. Defo recommend and will be back!
