Ate there yesterday. Waited 10 minutes to get served a drink at the bar and having then had our starters waited 45 minutes for the main courses. When mine came (crispy chicken burger) the chicken was not fully cooked and the 'crispy coating' was soft indicating, despite the delay in getting it to us, the cooking process was rushed. I cannot see any reason to go there again as there are plenty of other establishments in the area. The bar staff and waitresses were clearly new and undertrained. This is a comment that is repeatedly made by dissatisfied customers yet there does not result in management making sufficient improvements.

Only had breakfast but cooked to order. Absolutely delicious. Room well furnished and comfortable. Staff pleasant and friendly.

The service was great and the food very tasty. We had a roast and pudding for £22 which was good value for money. Would definitely return.

Today’s visit to The Bull was a disappointment! I ordered a Caesar salad only to be told that there was no avocado available even though that was part of the ingredients on the menu - apparently they had run out of avocado in the morning and, despite there being many shops locally, had none to serve for those ordering late lunches! When I asked to replace the avocado with extra chicken, I was advised that this would not be possible given the difference in the price of ingredients. As it happens, my salad arrived with no chicken whatsoever! Service was fine but customer satisfaction on this occasion certainly was not!

Stylish hotel with great design and ambience in restuarant and bar. Staff were friendly and helpful. I ordered salad on flatbreads. It was very tasty and well presented. However, it was served on a narrow piece of wood with paper serviettes underneath the flatbreads. The paper made it impossible to cut through the breads and keep the food on the platter, so I used cutlery for the salad and ate the bread with fingers. The salad itself was quite sparse and mostly based on large lengths of red cabbage. At £13.50 I thought it was too expensive for such a simple recipe.

We asked for a gluten free menu as I am coeliac. The staff explained the allergen menu is online. There was no mobile signal in the restaurant, so I needed to log on to their WiFi. This involved a longwinded process, including submitting personal details such as dob etc. Eventually I logged on to the allergen menu site, selected "gluten free", and then the site crashed. As this whole process had akready taken 10 minutes, I decided to read the paper menu and take a guess at what was gluten free. This isn't very hospitable when I was expecting a relaxing lunch. More seriously, this could be dangerous. I won't be returning to this restaurant.

We had family dinner here on Sunday 22 September for my mother-in-law birthday got to restaurant and was turned away to say was closed due to leaks, with no telephone or email to let us know, we travelled 40 minutes to venue so was very annoyed

Went for coffee . Waited 45 minutes went to the bar 3 times to advise staff we had not got coffee. Won't go.there again

We stayed 2 nights. Pub reports to close at 11. There was still a really loud gathering going on at 12. I went down only to meet 3 more young ladies being let into the pub. I made a "what's going on" gesture to the group only to be ignored. The noise continued until 1/4 to 4!!! Each time someone left the door slammed and yelling goodbye etc ensued. AND VERY LITTLE SLEEP HAPPENED FOR US! We came down for breakfast next morning, another guest complained. We added our complaint. The woman who was with the manager down played the incident. He said he would look into it. We heard nothing else. We stayed another night and the frosty reception from said woman was palpable. 2nd night was quiet as a mouse. Room was nice, bed comfortable. Not sure that I could recommend staying here.

I had made an advance booking for 4 people for their Sunday Roast (as stated on the booking form) On arrival we were told they had sold out of all roasts but the a la carte menu was still available. On being seated and handed menu’s we were told there were limited amounts left of fish & chips or burgers available. Waitress went to get some water for the table so we perused the menu… The waitress returned to take our order. As we started to request our choices we were told both the fish and burger were now sold out too. Leaving a choice of either Caesar Salad or Curry, or choose from their new ‘Specials Menu’ which was either Hake, Duck or a vegetarian option which didn’t appeal to all of us. I expressed that a telephone call would have been appreciated to let us know in advance that their stock levels would not cater for us arriving at 6pm so we could make alternative arrangements. I was told they only ran out 15 minutes prior to our arrival so there was no time to telephone! Appalling stock control, the kitchen staff would have been well aware of how many covers they could cater for and how many confirmed bookings they had much earlier in the day. Disappointed customers. This was supposed to be a farewell meal booked in advance. We had no choice but to go elsewhere.

Consistently crap service on drinks. I spent the day here yesterday. It was the Olney food festival, so was pretty busy. I ordered drinks on the app, they didn't turn up in over 30 minutes, so I went to ask the bar staff who eventually made them for me. Ordered from the app again, this time waited for an hour. Asked the bar staff again, apparently my order hadn't even been registered on the system, even though I was charged for the drinks. Eventually again, they were made up for me. The bar staff were clearly short staffed, but there was a girl with long blonde hair on the bar who ignored me and served someone else who had arrived at the bar after me. Maybe she didn't realise, but I thought this was poor. My boyfriend then said the same girl was rude to him and unhelpful later when he asked if she had seen something of his which was left behind on a table. Won't be returning!

Stayed for our anniversary Spacious nicely decorated room and great meal in the evening, staff were very nice and welcoming.

Lots of places that are considerably less expensive and significantly better close by. Extremely average burger, also ordered monkfish and received a bowl of tinned chopped tomatoes with a tiny bit of fish on top. Disappointing as you would expect better for the price. Service is great though so a shame as should be very impressive.

Probably one of the worst meals we have experienced: This was a family 21 birthday. They sent a menu which was 6 months out of date. This meant the pre orders were no longer available. Rather than taking all the orders from scratch, they tried to override the pre orders that went horribly wrong. Many did not get the food we ordered and then extra dishes were brought to the table that had not ordered. They then forgot the the Birthday boys dinner completely, who then had to eat on his own. A very pop selection of beer. Service was slow and disorganised. The be fair the manager gave us a 25% discount, but the experience for 14 was ruined, especially for those that travelled from Basingstoke. I for one will never return.

Really nice pub and garden, great restaurant. Service was a little swept off their feet when it wasn't too busy but they were anticipating a rush so the staff seemed a bit stressed.

Attended a wedding at the hotel with exclusive use. The staff were all fantastic. The food was absolutely amazing catered for vegan and gluten free......and there was no critisim on portion size/ selection/ taste. The bull offered an informal atmosphere where the guests could mingle giving a room to party to the DJ and areas where you could chat to other guests with ease. Thoroughly loved it and would definitely recommend. The staff went above and beyond to make the day special. Thankyou

Stayed here July 2024 over Formula 1 weekend. Family of 4. Had 2 double rooms. Car park only holds 5 cars but plenty of parking on the street. Staff here are fantastic. Very friendly, polite and helpful. Especially Tony at the bar, great guy. Credit to the establishment. Rooms are very comfortable with everything you need. Beds were wonderful, as was the shower. Had a meal in the restaurant on the Saturday as it was my birthday and it wasn’t very good unfortunately. My steak cost £27 and was full of fat and gristle, couldn’t eat it, I left it all. Daughters burger was dripping in wetness from the sauces it was falling apart and messy. Wife’s salad and child’s meal were good however. Breakfast was very enjoyable. I’d recommend as a hotel and pub but not the restaurant. Restaurant does have the potential to be great as it’s a lovely setting with very good attentive waiting staff.

My family and I came here last week to celebrate my birthday, really glad we chose to come here as we had a wonderful time. The pub is decorated beautifully, with a lovely outdoor area too. We all had roasts and the food quality and quantity was excellent. Really good service too. The staff were so friendly and accommodating to our two small children. We will definitely be back. Stayed here for the British GP and it was perfect for us, we didn’t have food as most of the main courses were off the menu so ate at the Cherry Tree almost next door which was exceptional. Rooms are quirky and kind of vintage feel to them, room was VERY warm but they supplied a fan which was great. TV signal was not great and WiFi a bit hit and miss but bed was very comfy so got a good nights sleep. Bathroom was in the main room so it much privacy but fine for a couple. Staff were lovely and friendly and bar drinks were well priced and a good selection with a lovely bar atmosphere- rooms were good value for money with lots of nice little extras - would stay again in room 2 - son and his girlfriend stayed in room 1 which wasn’t as fab as our room but still nice but very hot and apparently bed was quite uncomfortable.

Had Sunday lunch on the 16th June with my sister and nan had a really nice welcome felt well looked after and the food was delicious would definitely come back for enough Sunday roast I'm the future 😄

Always a great late afternoon or night at the Bull - the staff a friendly and the Aussie girl Jaz made such a great effort when taking our orders - she made us feel really welcome. 🙂

Delicious food, and a lovely setting, well worth a visit. Stopped here for a lovely pub lunch in the sun. The pub has some outdoor seating to the front, and has wonderful staff. The fried chicken burger had great flavour, and was very juicy! Only comment we would make is that the coleslaw side could do with being twice the size

We visited around 2.30 p.m. in the afternoon, it was rather quiet so we were a little surprised why it took so long to produce our meals, 40 plus minutes, with nobody else in the Restaurant

A charming pub and hotel! Food is more than just your average pub grub and all the staff are friendly, professional and attentive. Just celebrated our five year anniversary here - we stayed in room 7 (The Dairy) which was immaculate and offered a slice of luxury! The roll top bath is lovely and the giant four poster bed gave us the best nights sleep. The room overlooks the beer garden which again is really nice. Breakfast was included with the room aswell which was a lovely touch. A big thank you to all the staff at The Bull for making our weekend so special.

Only been in for a few drinks but staff are always lovely. It's clean and a nice place for a quiet drink and catch up. Food does smell great though!! Update : visited a few times for food now and the food is amazing, particularly the chicken burger and the chips are amazing. Definitely a regular for me and a friend meeting in the middle :)

We came for Sunday lunch. The service was great, fast and friendly. The creme brulee was one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. Dogs are welcome in the bar area.

Lovely setting but disappointing food. My partner ordered the terrine starter which was barely a slither but covered in too much mustard, however my squid was lovely. I then ordered the risotto with seabass which was watery and tasteless. I then reordered the steak which was over seasoned with salt. The manager did take money off the bill but the service was slow despite there being very few other tables. Very disappointing.

Awesome pub, restaurant and bed and breakfast... was fortunate to of stayed a couple of times and the accommodation is off the charts, super comfy beds and cool decor. Most recent surprise mothers day visit was lovely too Thank you staff for a great adventure experience xxx

We had a lovely early Mother’s Day celebration. The atmosphere was buzzing; the food was excellent and the waitress was very personable.

1 Food cold, then microwaved this was a special treat on Mother’s Day never visit again, they did take the meal off the bill but that isn’t the point when we were expecting a good meal.

Despite assurances that although the bath was in the room the shower and toilet facilities were separate and private but unfortunately this is not the case. The shower is in the room with no real privacy and the toilet separated by a flimsy opaque glass door. Not particularly private unless you are a couple! The shower head was tiny and the temperature control faulty as the water was scolding hot only! (I did report this). The breakfast was equally disappointing having been told there were some things not available on the breakfast menu we asked if one of those missing items could be replaced with halloumi cheese available on one of the other selections and was told no it was too expensive to offer as an alternative. Considering the room rate we paid, I find this shocking! We were told the coffee and tea was self service to find no cups available and instant coffee in a bowl.overall the stay was NOT good value for money and I certainly would look at alternatives when staying in Olney again.

Once again The Bull staff delivered excellent service and the food was delicious. After ordering a light lunch we couldn't resist adding a portion of the pork scratchings served with apple sauce. A very pleasant impromptu break spent with my husband in a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

Brooke was an amazing host tonight. She made our night special and the good was great.

Stayed here recently for 1 night. It was absolutely lovely in a perfect location. The room was very nice and very clean. The staff were extremely welcoming. We dined there as well and had lovely tasty meals. Our waitress was so attentive and friendly. I think her name was Vinja (apologies if that is not spelt correctly). We will certainly return.

Stopped in Olney to find somewhere to eat and settled on trying The Bull. The atmosphere was very inviting and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food was incredible and very good value for money. We will definitely be returning!

Previously had a fabulously nice meals at the Bull ( 3 courses too ) but tonight, booked in at 7.30pm, we ordered our wine ahead of our waitress taking our food order but they had already run out of 3 key classic main courses out of 6 as well as 1 of the specials (1 out of 2)-. Manager was great, apologising and offered us wine to accompany our alternative choices, the risotto was fine but the fish and chips poor ( small cod with thick batter and oil soaked chips which I left. We were very disappointed, like most people, a meal out is a huge investment, our money and time, and tonight we looked forward to our meal at the bull to be completely let down.

Terrine starter came with no bread/toast. We were told we could buy some…therefore making the starter £13. Mussels may as well have been served in cloudy water for there was a distinct lack of wine or garlic taste We both had pork belly Bon Bon which arrived cold and extremely greasy and was sent back to be re heated The lady manager apologised but the bill was £70 for what was a shocking lunch and experience. We certainly won’t be returning and other people we’ve since spoken to have had similar experiences, sadly. Just a shame we didn’t know that beforehand.

Visited this venue for Sunday lunch for the first time as we were visiting friends in the area and to be honest we booked as it was the only restaurant that had availability. Well, that was to our advantage. Best Sunday roast we've had in ages. Lovely friendly staff. The desserts were to die for. We will definitely return when next in Olney.

We had Sunday lunch here today and it was was absolutely fabulous. The nibbles menu had the best belly pork bites I have ever tasted, very moreish. The ravioli and kofta starters were very tasty. The roasts were huge and beautifully presented, two of us had the trio of meats and one had the beef, no complaints there. Sides of red cabbage and cauliflower and leek cheese were also very nice, the the pigs in blankets were a little bland. The service was excellent, our waitress was polite and very helpful, think she was called Brook, a credit to the establishment.

Lovely surroundings with a great atmosphere. We were a party of 14 to celebrate a retirement and the food was delicious. Only criticism is some of the food could have been hotter. The staff were very professional, attentive and friendly and a credit to The Bull.

We had a lovely meal - 1 pie and chips and 2 sea bass risotto - nothing sent back as we all enjoyed our meals. For pudding 1 stick toffee pudding and 1 cheese board for 2. Again we really enjoyed . Great service from Non and Chris and cannot say anything bad. Would recommend.

Terrible Sunday lunch,waiting staff were lovely but they all need training as they don’t seem to know what each other were doing!!, but this is down to the managers.overcooked beef,dry chicken soggy veg and no Yorkshire pudding . Won’t be returning In reply to your answer our bill was around £40 a head and I didn’t have a starter or pudding, telling us there’s no Yorkshire puddings as the plate is put on the table ( after waiting a long time )and the advertised beef was meant to be pink that turned up overcooked didn’t fulfil your advertised description ! If you weren’t staffed properly why did you continue to take more covers in the restaurant and unfortunately tarnish your reputation

Not many eating on this occasion, one long table and ourselves . Had waldolf salad , almost a bowl of lettuce! As I ate it I found gritty bits not very nice at all . Ordered a latte later and it was really strong like bitter gravy . Such a shame as they really tried with the service but with the rest it really let them down and I think apart coming in for a drink I would avoid which is a shame for such a lovely place.

Very very bad, lamb cofta.. like a stone waste of time, sunday lunch lamb.. uncooked sent back, chicken solid sent back, thai green curry.. nothing thai about it. Dont waste your money

Hmmmm..... Sunday. The waiting staff were pleasant enough. Service was VERY slow. Food is ok. Starters that took ages to arrive didn't manage to come out in one go (only a table of 6) we had to ask for the last starter! Long wait till mains. We were told there was an accident with the Yorkshire puddings, (I mean the amount of time we were waiting more could have been cooked!!) We were told extra veg was added to compensate...... Well I'm not sure how much veg you get as standard, there wasn't a lot there!!..... But then about 10 mins later a bowl of red cabbage was bought out 🤷‍♂️ Chicken was very dry, beef was overcooked. Again a good wait to order puds/coffee's. Two of the coffees were just about warm by the time they arrived, which again took some time. Eventually the puds arrived. Then a wait for us to ask for the bill..... Then some time after we were asked if we wanted anything else "no, just the bill, someone was already supposed to be doing that...." The place was not busy, so god knows what it'd have been like if it was. One couple did give up and leave!! Nice pub, but don't know if there were new cooks etc, because it wasn't their finest hour that's for sure. Table booked for 6, and we were put on a pretty small table as well.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights over the Christmas period whilst visiting family nearby. We got back to our room on the first night and there was a mouse in the bathroom. With it being late, there was no one around to make them aware of this, we contacted the out of hours helpline 10 times over the course of an hour and no one came back to us. My husband stuffed all the holes in the bathroom in hope that the mouse wouldn't return. We didn't want to stay in the room but sadly we had no choice. This is an old hotel, but having mice is simple unacceptable and very unhygienic. The next morning we made a member of the staff aware, she didn't even apologise and we asked to be moved rooms for our second night. She said she would give us a call later on. We didn't receive a call so we went back to ask about changing rooms. They were able to move us, but still no apology about the night before.

Brilliant gastro pub with rooms. Dead hot in the summer however with no air con. Food is either brilliant or sub-par, depends which chef you have working. Used to be an older bloke from Sheffield and he was a great cook, but wasn't there last visit whilst working.

I’ve stayed at this fabulous hotel on a few visits back to the Uk now. The staff are always extremely accommodating and service is excellent! A big Thank you to Noreen for going above and beyond with customer service !!! Rooms are unique and very comfortable ! Breakfast is wonderful !

Great pub plenty of seating and good service

We visit you all the time and choose you for your great service and excellent food. That’s why we booked on Christmas Eve for a very special lunch to celebrate Christmas and also the engagement of our daughter . It was a very important get together and we had traveled far and wide to be there. Unfortunately our lunch was a very disappointing experience which was such a great pity . One of our daughters and my husband had fish and chips ,not that hard to get right … however it was wet and soggy ,they said it tasted like a cheap frozen ready meal not what you expect from The Bull . Our son in law had a risotto which he said was very bland and I had Caesar salad with a chunk of incinerated chicken on top which looked and tasted dire . We mentioned it was a very special engagement celebration, we live far apart and although our waitress was pleasant enough she made no fuss or tried to make it feel special . Such a huge shame as we are folks that are easily pleased . We are really sad that the very special lunch , which costs a reasonable amount of money and we had all anticipated did not live up to our expectations in any way . Such a shame .

Great pub in the centre of Olney, our usual "go to" pub of choice. Always a friendly atmosphere and nice place to be.

Barman and waiter were excellent. Food was lovely. I thought prices could be a bit lower though. Expensive for what we had. Nice environment. The price is the only thing that would make me think twice about going back.

Excellent breakfast served for 20 of us! Food was delivered with good speed and excellent quality. We were looked after well by the staff who served us. Thank you to the team 😊

Had a large group booking for Sunday lunch in the Green Room. We had several changes to the number in the group due to illness over the preceding week and when ringing up to amend the booking the staff were very helpful and friendly. The Green Room was a perfect setting, especially as we had a number of under 5s in the group so were able to avoid disturbing other diners in the main restaurant area. The food was excellent, as was the service. Wouldn't hesitate to visit again, especially as a large group

We had a great Sunday lunch at the Bull last weekend. The food was excellent as was the service from all of the staff. A very enjoyable afternoon we will definitely come again.

4 of us booked for breakfast prior to The Dickins of a Christmas Artisan market. Booked for 9am. Arrived at 9 to find all doors locked. No bell no intercom. Tried ringing no answer. We could see people inside sitting at a table and knocked...

Needed a place to stay for a night on business, was recommended The Bull and it didn't disappoint. Courteous staff were really helpful upon arrival and the room was really good too - not the regular 'box' of a Premier Inn but actually had some character! Beer selection from the bar was good and the breakfast in the morning was excellent - Eggs Benedict, see photo.

As Olney locals, we have eaten at The Bull a number of times and always enjoyed the food. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was embarrassing and I'm unsure whether we'll return. Our reservation had been pre-booked, so we were a little disappointed when we were...

Just went there for lunch. The atmosphere, food and prices were all really good. The quality of service was poor. Almost empty yet a long wait to order, a long time to serve food and a ridiculous wait for the bill. If it's that bad when it is so empty I dread to think how bad it is at busy times.
