The Bull Hotel in Milton Keynes

Leaves a lot to be desired. Food was bleak, service was worse, youngish staff who seemed to be a supervisor of some sort was less than welcoming & generally didn't seem as though she wanted to be there at all.

Absolutely fantastic experience as always. Pesto on the camembert was an absolute treat! Lovely welcoming staff and service, been going here for the last 7 years.

Very good but asked no chili jam and they put it and I am disappointed with the pricing . Cherry tree is better and I spend less and I get more food

My mum and I decided we were going to enjoy the sunshine and sit outside for a drink. At our table, like all the others, there was a QR code so we ordered a bottle of wine. After ten minutes my mum went inside to enquire about our order to be told we weren’t able to order outside, table service didn’t exist nor was there the opportunity to do so. Given that we had been able to order and pay from a working menu and show evidence of this you would expect the management to apologise for the inconvenience but instead mum was questioned and dismissed by the manager. Credit due to Harry who was working on the bar he refunded the bottle that was available on their menu which wasn’t actually stocked by them anymore and provided us with a different bottle. You would have thought the management would have 1) come to check the QR “issue” outside 2) been apologetic for their error not ours as the customers. Neither of these things happened. To also be told that they had a problem at NYE where people were scanning to avoid using the bar which then had to be refunded tells me that management may need to have a better control over how they run their business.

Came to watch the rugby. One room booked out for private party so people all over the place in front of the TV. The snug had people just sat eating and not interested in the rugby but stopping other sit and watch it. Why advertise it so much and make it a nightmare to actually watch?? Go down the road to the Swan to watch

Gorgeous lunch, lovely warm restaurant!

Enjoyed a breakfast brunch with family to celebrate my brother’s 60th birthday last weekend. Perfect venue, lovely food and good service.

2nd visit at the Bull everything was excellent the food was delicious and the service was very good. Will certainly be returning in the near future.

We came to The Bull yesterday for a spot of lunch, and sadly the service was horrid. The ordering system was simple, however at the mark of approx 50 mins, I had to ask how long the food would be, I was told that someone was checking and would let me know, behold no one came back to us, about 15 mins later, I got up and asked again and was told the food was coming, about 15 mins after I was told this, I got up again, this time to request a refund as the wait was becoming beyond ridiculous. Whilst I appreciate a full refund, a shockingly bad experience. At no point whilst requesting a table or ordering did we get told that the wait for food was longer than normal, nor did we get told that they didn't have certain items on the menu, They only told us that they didn't have what we had ordered after it was ordered. A clear breakdown between the kitchen and waiters. Communication needs to be improved amongst the departments! A let down lunch at The Bull.

Lovely hotel and very warm and welcoming. Stunning room (2) and breakfast was lovely. Second time staying there and it won't be the last.

A really nice place to eat & be with family. Harry served us and was really helpful & friendly. The food was delicious, fresh & really nicely presented. Thank you to James the chef too, a great Sunday lunch!

I had dinner with a group of friends tonight and I’m happy to say it was a very pleasurable experience, the food was great and the service was even better, our thank go to Non for her very professional and friendly personality, we would recommend the bull for a good night out.

It was fairly quiet but we had a cosy booth table and brilliant service from Alexander. The food was good overall. And the setting was lovely too.

Came in for a meal the other day and Non served me. She was absolutely lovely and made sure everything was alright. 10/10 service would definitely come again.

It is the 5th or 6th time I come and it is worst and worst for the breakfast. I pre ordered the day before to get it at 7:15 (several meetings in the morning) but at 7:45 still nothing after remind my order 3 times… probably my last time here. A good one but not for business trip. The day after, dinner offered by the house ! It’s fair.

Non was great, very helpful and welcoming. Food was excellent, definately recommend if you're in Olney.

Nice welcome and clear instructions on arrival. Room nicely styled. One or two floor boards were very squeaky so had to navigate around these at night but it is all part of the character of this well refurbished hotel. Non looked after us very well from start to finish. Thank you Non

Arrived fairly early in the morning among a group of 16 with no prior booking. The staff rallied, even getting some of the office personnel to share the load, to ensure an efficient service. I only had a pot of tea, which was good, but the food around me looked to be first rate and drew no complaints. The restaurant is in the old courtyard which now has a glass roof, so you can see the buildings as they would have been, offering plenty of natural light in these very pleasant surroundings. Not cheap but lots of character in the building in the centre of Olney and very good staff.

Service was awful. They got the food order wrong and it was not busy at all. The member of staff spent most of the time on his phone or talking to the chef. The place seems to be on a downward slide in terms of standards which is a shame for the town.

Visited on 11/01/25 Service started well, then descended, despite being a quiet evening. Ordered 2 beef burgers, 1 chicken burger. After a while, we received 2 chicken, one beef - despite the waiter explicitly checking. When the incorrect order arrived, we accepted so as to not cause a problem. Waste not want not. Unfortunately, all were underwhelming. Had to request water 3 times from two different waiters before it was received. Pints were good, but everything seemed quite unorganized.

Massaman curry, dreadful. Sauce from a plastic container, lukewarm veg and dry chicken. I've had a few meals before and there is usually a delay or some part of the meal that arrives cold or overcooked. Menu needs a re-think to ensure meals are freshly cooked and not "assembled"

I made a bookings for two rooms on Christmas Day We checked in at 3pm and I asked to confirm if one of my rooms had a cot. I was told these were limited and unless I had asked for one he couldn’t guarantee one would be free. I advised I had contacted someone called Noreen in July to confirm my request as I wasn’t sure it would have been noted given we booked via booking.com and Noreen had confirmed my request. Upon entry to the room there was no cot. I saw housekeeping in the corridor and asked for one. It was at this point a lady arrived - I now know her name to be Letty. She was incredibly rude, raised her voice and told me that no one had let her know we needed a cot. I advised her that I had confirmed this back in July. She again repeated no one had told her. I pointed out poor communication within the hotel wasn’t my concern. She went off and came back with a cot, slamming it down on the floor and saying “we charge £20 for these. You’ve already paid to stay so I don’t know what we do”. I told her I wasn’t paying for a cot as at no point in time had anyone advised there was a cost. She asked where I wanted the cot putting up and then started dragging chairs around the room saying there wasn’t enough space. She walked off after barking orders at Millie to “just put it up”. I had to help Millie set up the cot as she was struggling to do it. She told Millie to put a towel over the base. We weren’t even offered a single sheet folded around it. It didn’t make for a comfortable nights sleep for my son as the towel was scratchy and hard. We came down for breakfast on Boxing Day at 8.45am and Letty was in the restaurant. We went to sit at a table and she said we couldn’t sit there and said “over there” and pointed to another part of the restaurant. She was incredibly abrupt. I asked for a high chair and this was slammed on the floor beside me. I moved a chair to make room for the high chair so my son could sit at the table, she came back and picked up the chair I had moved and huffed loudly. At this point I told Letty she was being rude and asked her to move away. She started raising her voice to me saying “rude. I’m not rude. No no.” Again I asked her to leave the area but she continued to shout in front of other customers quite loudly that she wasn’t being rude. She did eventually walk off. We ordered breakfast and I asked for a yoghurt for my son. I was told this wasn’t possible as it couldn’t be put through the till. I was told the server would look at what was in the kids menu but she then clocked off and never came back. We sadly waited over 90 minutes for breakfast. Whilst waiting a man went to the young manager and said his wife had arrived and could she have a fried breakfast. Her food came out within 5 mins whilst we were still waiting for our food. When the food did arrive it was cold. Upon checking out I asked to speak to the young manager. I was explaining our experiences and Letty made another appearance. She started talking over me, telling the young manager that she wanted to complain about me shouting at her the day before over the cot. I advised her there had been no shouting from anyone except herself. I asked her to tone her voice down in front of my son and pointed out she was shouting, she just kept saying she wasn’t shouting and that I was being rude to her. I asked her to leave the area as she was being rude. She refused to leave so I had to ask my mother to take my son away from the area as he was beginning to get frightened by her shouting (he is only 1 years old). The young manager asked her to calm down and leave a number of times but she refused. Letty continued shouting that she had never been rude and that I was the problem. She said she had worked there for 7 years and never had a problem with complaints. Given her attitude I find this hard to believe. To have a member of staff speak to paying guests the way Letty spoke to myself on both occasions I dealt with her is inexcusable. Avoid!

Went for a Christmas Eve meal with family. The food and atmosphere was lovely but unfortunately the service didn't match the food. We had been for an hour and a half and only received our starters. I would like to say that the staff were off there feet and extremely busy but this can't have been the case as I witnessed a member of service staff having a chat with the chef over the pass for atleast 10 minutes. We were also only served 2 rounds of drinks in 3 hours as it was basically impossible to get staffs attention. To add to this we were called about 30 minutes before arrival to say that some of the dishes we pre order weeks in advance were not available (what's the point of a pre order in that case). On the flip side the food that was available was lovely, shame it was let down by the service. We will be going somewhere else for our Xmas eve meal in future.

Very sad as this was a Christmas day meal with family . Sad for the staff . Meals were cold . But at the end of the meal . Person in charge cleared our Bill . As she had to for several other tables. As it was 100 pounds approx each person . There were 9 of us .it certainly wasn't a good day for The Bull hotel.

Disappointed there were 3 items on the menu that were not available esp as one of them was fish. Other than that it was a great meal. Turkey and leek pie was good. Our server Emma was excellent. A real credit to you.

We were a group of 29 who were in The Bull for an annual breakfast together. We pre-ordered our food and drinks and everything was perfect. All our breakfasts came together and the staff, Holley, Grace and Zoltan (in the kitchen) were welcoming friendly and efficient. It is not an easy task to feed 29 people all at the same time, all with different requirements but The Bull did a great job.

Excellent choice. Rooms and decor really nice. In a great spot on the high street in Olney. Breakfast was spot on too.

Such a great experience from start to finish. We had a three course meal for Sunday lunch and all courses were delicious. The service from Emma was fantastic. Highly recommended.

I live locally but have not been to the bull for a few years I always remember it being very good for both food and service .I booked a meal for me and my girlfriend. Our waitress told us they're is a bit of a wait for food .we wanted for 30 min before anyone came near us. again .we ordered drinks and water .drinks came but no water .nibbles were ordered which came in good time .I ordered the salt and pepper squid which I tried but was really bad I ate one and left the rest .nobody asked if our food was OK at any time .our booking was for 7.30 we got to our table at 7 15 .service was so slow I got up from my table and got my drinks from the bar myself. At 9.15 there was still no sign of our main course .people from other tables also had no food so we all started talking to each other about how long they had waited .the.table next to ours had been there since 7pm .At 9.30 our food for turned up theres did not which made them more uspset .my belly pork was ok but something in the veg was not nice and gave off a funny smell like perfume. My girlfriend curry was a very small portion and she added chicken more like .child's portion. All of a sudden she cried out ..it had uncooked.really hot chopped chilli all over it which burned her mouth and she spat it out . When we paid the waitress who was lovely and trying her best keep saying sorry but it was just to late .we left before dessert and went across the road to tesco and brought a cheese cake to eat at home .this was after 10 pm by this point we just could not stand the wait any longer for drinks or food .I told a mate about our experience and he said it yes it's always that bad nothing to do with Christmas.

Always a great experience with terrific staff like Alex and Holly. An excellent market town pub well worth a visit. Great location and easy parking.

Much as we tried to not write this review, in all conscience it has to be left. Communication was awful - trying to update the booking was met with the spinning wheel of death by the dining app. Three phone calls went unanswered and no response to the request for a call back. The simple request for some crudities to accompany the baked Camembert was met with a flat no (one of our party was on a keto diet) despite our offer to go to Tescos and buy the necessary ingredients.... Apparently the totally ineffective manager does not have any authority not only over the kitchen, but also cannot be bothered to respond to phone messages. We've tried to give The Bull the benefit of the doubt, but it really is so poorly run that we have had enough. Don't even want to go to the general unavailability of real ale, which is ridiculous for a pub owned by a brewery. Far better options are available in Olney, which we will use until a radical change in management takes place.

We were swiftly and professionally served by Annie, she was so slowly and friendly and made us feel welcome from her first greeting. She recommended her favourite dish and made the whole experience worthwhile. The food was fantastic. The open kitchen really added to the ambience and when the food left…wow. Unbelievable flavours, superb wine selection and fantastic prices! Cannot wait to come again, made our night out one to remember.

Great Hotel overall I've stayed here several times and have always enjoyed my visits. The rooms are well-appointed and impeccably clean, and the food—especially breakfast—is excellent. However, I do have a minor complaint. Upon check-in, I was told that the bar closed at 11 PM. When I returned around 10:35 PM after a late meeting, I was disappointed to find it closed, despite a few customers still inside. I wasn't even offered a drink to take to my room. It was a bit disheartening, especially with just 20 minutes left before closing.

Nice bar and what looks like a good restaurant. We'll try it in the near future. We thought the bar prices were a bit high, but I guess that's the cost of living going up

Ate there yesterday. Waited 10 minutes to get served a drink at the bar and having then had our starters waited 45 minutes for the main courses. When mine came (crispy chicken burger) the chicken was not fully cooked and the 'crispy coating' was soft indicating, despite the delay in getting it to us, the cooking process was rushed. I cannot see any reason to go there again as there are plenty of other establishments in the area. The bar staff and waitresses were clearly new and undertrained. This is a comment that is repeatedly made by dissatisfied customers yet there does not result in management making sufficient improvements.

Only had breakfast but cooked to order. Absolutely delicious. Room well furnished and comfortable. Staff pleasant and friendly.

The service was great and the food very tasty. We had a roast and pudding for £22 which was good value for money. Would definitely return.

Today’s visit to The Bull was a disappointment! I ordered a Caesar salad only to be told that there was no avocado available even though that was part of the ingredients on the menu - apparently they had run out of avocado in the morning and, despite there being many shops locally, had none to serve for those ordering late lunches! When I asked to replace the avocado with extra chicken, I was advised that this would not be possible given the difference in the price of ingredients. As it happens, my salad arrived with no chicken whatsoever! Service was fine but customer satisfaction on this occasion certainly was not!

Stylish hotel with great design and ambience in restuarant and bar. Staff were friendly and helpful. I ordered salad on flatbreads. It was very tasty and well presented. However, it was served on a narrow piece of wood with paper serviettes underneath the flatbreads. The paper made it impossible to cut through the breads and keep the food on the platter, so I used cutlery for the salad and ate the bread with fingers. The salad itself was quite sparse and mostly based on large lengths of red cabbage. At £13.50 I thought it was too expensive for such a simple recipe.

We asked for a gluten free menu as I am coeliac. The staff explained the allergen menu is online. There was no mobile signal in the restaurant, so I needed to log on to their WiFi. This involved a longwinded process, including submitting personal details such as dob etc. Eventually I logged on to the allergen menu site, selected "gluten free", and then the site crashed. As this whole process had akready taken 10 minutes, I decided to read the paper menu and take a guess at what was gluten free. This isn't very hospitable when I was expecting a relaxing lunch. More seriously, this could be dangerous. I won't be returning to this restaurant.

We had family dinner here on Sunday 22 September for my mother-in-law birthday got to restaurant and was turned away to say was closed due to leaks, with no telephone or email to let us know, we travelled 40 minutes to venue so was very annoyed

Went for coffee . Waited 45 minutes went to the bar 3 times to advise staff we had not got coffee. Won't go.there again

We stayed 2 nights. Pub reports to close at 11. There was still a really loud gathering going on at 12. I went down only to meet 3 more young ladies being let into the pub. I made a "what's going on" gesture to the group only to be ignored. The noise continued until 1/4 to 4!!! Each time someone left the door slammed and yelling goodbye etc ensued. AND VERY LITTLE SLEEP HAPPENED FOR US! We came down for breakfast next morning, another guest complained. We added our complaint. The woman who was with the manager down played the incident. He said he would look into it. We heard nothing else. We stayed another night and the frosty reception from said woman was palpable. 2nd night was quiet as a mouse. Room was nice, bed comfortable. Not sure that I could recommend staying here.

I had made an advance booking for 4 people for their Sunday Roast (as stated on the booking form) On arrival we were told they had sold out of all roasts but the a la carte menu was still available. On being seated and handed menu’s we were told there were limited amounts left of fish & chips or burgers available. Waitress went to get some water for the table so we perused the menu… The waitress returned to take our order. As we started to request our choices we were told both the fish and burger were now sold out too. Leaving a choice of either Caesar Salad or Curry, or choose from their new ‘Specials Menu’ which was either Hake, Duck or a vegetarian option which didn’t appeal to all of us. I expressed that a telephone call would have been appreciated to let us know in advance that their stock levels would not cater for us arriving at 6pm so we could make alternative arrangements. I was told they only ran out 15 minutes prior to our arrival so there was no time to telephone! Appalling stock control, the kitchen staff would have been well aware of how many covers they could cater for and how many confirmed bookings they had much earlier in the day. Disappointed customers. This was supposed to be a farewell meal booked in advance. We had no choice but to go elsewhere.

Consistently crap service on drinks. I spent the day here yesterday. It was the Olney food festival, so was pretty busy. I ordered drinks on the app, they didn't turn up in over 30 minutes, so I went to ask the bar staff who eventually made them for me. Ordered from the app again, this time waited for an hour. Asked the bar staff again, apparently my order hadn't even been registered on the system, even though I was charged for the drinks. Eventually again, they were made up for me. The bar staff were clearly short staffed, but there was a girl with long blonde hair on the bar who ignored me and served someone else who had arrived at the bar after me. Maybe she didn't realise, but I thought this was poor. My boyfriend then said the same girl was rude to him and unhelpful later when he asked if she had seen something of his which was left behind on a table. Won't be returning!

Stayed for our anniversary Spacious nicely decorated room and great meal in the evening, staff were very nice and welcoming.

Lots of places that are considerably less expensive and significantly better close by. Extremely average burger, also ordered monkfish and received a bowl of tinned chopped tomatoes with a tiny bit of fish on top. Disappointing as you would expect better for the price. Service is great though so a shame as should be very impressive.

Probably one of the worst meals we have experienced: This was a family 21 birthday. They sent a menu which was 6 months out of date. This meant the pre orders were no longer available. Rather than taking all the orders from scratch, they tried to override the pre orders that went horribly wrong. Many did not get the food we ordered and then extra dishes were brought to the table that had not ordered. They then forgot the the Birthday boys dinner completely, who then had to eat on his own. A very pop selection of beer. Service was slow and disorganised. The be fair the manager gave us a 25% discount, but the experience for 14 was ruined, especially for those that travelled from Basingstoke. I for one will never return.

Really nice pub and garden, great restaurant. Service was a little swept off their feet when it wasn't too busy but they were anticipating a rush so the staff seemed a bit stressed.

Attended a wedding at the hotel with exclusive use. The staff were all fantastic. The food was absolutely amazing catered for vegan and gluten free......and there was no critisim on portion size/ selection/ taste. The bull offered an informal atmosphere where the guests could mingle giving a room to party to the DJ and areas where you could chat to other guests with ease. Thoroughly loved it and would definitely recommend. The staff went above and beyond to make the day special. Thankyou

Stayed here July 2024 over Formula 1 weekend. Family of 4. Had 2 double rooms. Car park only holds 5 cars but plenty of parking on the street. Staff here are fantastic. Very friendly, polite and helpful. Especially Tony at the bar, great guy. Credit to the establishment. Rooms are very comfortable with everything you need. Beds were wonderful, as was the shower. Had a meal in the restaurant on the Saturday as it was my birthday and it wasn’t very good unfortunately. My steak cost £27 and was full of fat and gristle, couldn’t eat it, I left it all. Daughters burger was dripping in wetness from the sauces it was falling apart and messy. Wife’s salad and child’s meal were good however. Breakfast was very enjoyable. I’d recommend as a hotel and pub but not the restaurant. Restaurant does have the potential to be great as it’s a lovely setting with very good attentive waiting staff.

My family and I came here last week to celebrate my birthday, really glad we chose to come here as we had a wonderful time. The pub is decorated beautifully, with a lovely outdoor area too. We all had roasts and the food quality and quantity was excellent. Really good service too. The staff were so friendly and accommodating to our two small children. We will definitely be back. Stayed here for the British GP and it was perfect for us, we didn’t have food as most of the main courses were off the menu so ate at the Cherry Tree almost next door which was exceptional. Rooms are quirky and kind of vintage feel to them, room was VERY warm but they supplied a fan which was great. TV signal was not great and WiFi a bit hit and miss but bed was very comfy so got a good nights sleep. Bathroom was in the main room so it much privacy but fine for a couple. Staff were lovely and friendly and bar drinks were well priced and a good selection with a lovely bar atmosphere- rooms were good value for money with lots of nice little extras - would stay again in room 2 - son and his girlfriend stayed in room 1 which wasn’t as fab as our room but still nice but very hot and apparently bed was quite uncomfortable.

Had Sunday lunch on the 16th June with my sister and nan had a really nice welcome felt well looked after and the food was delicious would definitely come back for enough Sunday roast I'm the future 😄

Always a great late afternoon or night at the Bull - the staff a friendly and the Aussie girl Jaz made such a great effort when taking our orders - she made us feel really welcome. 🙂

Delicious food, and a lovely setting, well worth a visit. Stopped here for a lovely pub lunch in the sun. The pub has some outdoor seating to the front, and has wonderful staff. The fried chicken burger had great flavour, and was very juicy! Only comment we would make is that the coleslaw side could do with being twice the size

We visited around 2.30 p.m. in the afternoon, it was rather quiet so we were a little surprised why it took so long to produce our meals, 40 plus minutes, with nobody else in the Restaurant

Lovely Sunday lunch, varied menu including roasts. Very well prepared and presented. Good seating and good atmosphere. Worth a visit.
