Don’t even deserve one star for allowing a dangerous dog in there pub which is supposed to be a dog friendly pub I would never bring my dog there after what happened, twice in one night this dog attacked, then because I protected my dog and they turned on me because they allowed it to happen and could of happened again to another dog. Just warning people now it’s not a dog friendly pub that’s for sure I highly recommend going to a different pub! Don’t waste your time

We were here for dinner on a recommendation, all the staff were very welcoming and friendly. They went out of their way to ensure we were looked after and it was done in a friendly but casual way. The menu is limited but that is a good sign as everything we had was tasty and well cooked and turned up hot - Our 3 basic requirements! Its not cheap but we felt we had value for money in a lovely setting. They also have a lovely garden at the rear, which is not clear if you are passing buy, as all you see is some locals hanging around outside the front, just go in and its worth it.

Have walked to this pub many times since moving to Bishops Waltham 2 years ago. Staff are very friendly and have made us feel at home on every visit. Have eaten here a as a couple & with friends and the food is always good, especially Sunday lunch. On our latest visit there was a pop up kitchen and we thoroughly enjoyed our Tapas, which was excellent value, the Banana Brioche pudding was delicious. It has become our go to local even though it's a 2 mile walk from home.

Came here for Sunday lunch just before Christmas. A very warm welcome and we had a good table for 4 by a window. The food (we all had roasts) was excellent. Obviously freshly cooked, very tasty and good portion sizes. This is a fantastic village pub - lovely ambience, open fires - perfect little country pub. One drawback - at one point there seemed to be more dogs in the pub than there were human customers. I know that this should be somewhat expected when visiting a country pub - and it didn't bother me - but if you do have a bit of an issue with dogs (as one of our party did) - it might be a bit of an issue. Probably not so much of an issue in the summer when the lovely garden out the back would be open. Sorry for the slight negativity here as the everything else was fantastic!

What a fantastic experience from start to finish. We were greeted by two lovely ladies who couldn’t be friendlier and more accommodating. Sat by the fire place with the resident pet, Basil. For a Wednesday lunch time, the pub was full of families and groups of shooting parties. We had the loveliest food we’ve had for a long time. Our starter of crispy pork bits, although sounded simple, it was cooked perfectly and delicious. Partridge for mains with the most scrumptious jus, was simply sublime. We also had the beef cheeks in a bun which again was cooked perfectly and so tender. The dessert had to be the panna cotta. So light and had the perfect wobble. We can not wait to visit again. Highly recommend.

I only dropped into this little hidden gem in Upham whilst on a countryside drive. Understand, this isn't an easy place to find, but I'm guessing with SatNav discovery is easier than guessing? Very nice staff and seems to be very well supported, presumably by locals rather than those travelling from distance? Not exactly overflowing with choices in their beers, ales, lagers and ciders, but I had a very good pint of Goodens Gold Bitter...and at £4.50 was very well priced and tasted great. Definitely worth searching for.

Lovely village pub. I’m currently visiting the village and was invited to attend a quiz night at the pub. Ashamed to say it was my first ever pub quiz and I wasn’t too much help yo my team who came in 2nd. The pub is quintessentially English with exposed beams and several fire places. Upham is a small, rural village and therefore it seems like all the patrons know each other. Sorta reminded me of the sitcom ‘Cheers’. The menu looks great and I’m reliably told by several of the patrons that the food is very good. I had bangers and mash on quiz night and can confirm it was great. Well worth a pop in to wet your whistle if you’re passing through Upham.

Family lunchtime meal. Had never visited before but most definitely will again. The menu changes daily depending upon the local produce and is cooked to perfection. Chicken on the bone was succulent, fish juicy and tender. My son's hogget tasted delicious. Great starters and puds too. My ginger pudding was so flavoursome. I shouldn't forget the beers and ciders, all from local brewers. This is a great country pub restaurant, if you're in the area it really is worth a visit. Six of us had lunch after a long walk. We had a very friendly welcome and service was also friendly as well as efficient. All of us enjoyed our main course (including four fish and chips). Only three of the group had a dessert, all having rhubarb mess. Unfortunately, none of the three thought it was up to the standard of the main courses. It was just a bit bland, very little taste of rhubarb, and could have been presented better. Overall though, we enjoyed our trip to the Brushmakers.

We booked Sunday lunch with my sister and brother in law, we wanted to try the Chestnut Horse with the intention to book for Christmas. The starters were lovely but not to be said for the main course, my sister and I had the roast beef, the beef was cut thickly and the whole plate full was verging on cold, my sister order extra cauliflower cheese which arrived towards the end of her meal. We ordered puddings, my sisters came first, ice cream, and ours arrived half an hour later and was not fully as we ordered. The staff were very pleasant and apologetic. Such a shame for a lovely country pub.
