The Broughton Inn in Preston

Our second time at The Broughton Inn, the first experience wasn't great but thought we would give it another go for a second chance since it's fairly local to us. It was a bad experience start to finish, despite the booking for a table of 8 a while ago it wasn't on the system. Understably drinks were sold out, that's fine its christmas but there was multiple meals unavailable, after making our orders to be told some of these also wasn't available. Being a table of 8 ordering starters and mains we said to the waitress do you not need to write it down? to which she replied " no i have a really good memory ". Then we was made to feel bad when she came back to write down our orders again as so much had changed despite it being their fault as the meals we ordered were not available. The young waitress serving at dinner time today has a serious attitude problem and really needs to work on her customer service skills. We actually joked about them running out of food and telling us mid meal when everyone else had theirs. Then we was told that one meal had basically been forgotten! The waitress with the great memory even forgot to come back to take drinks order when we was waiting. My meal was dry and not the best, even my 4 year old commented how dry her chicken was on our way home. A mistake or two is fine, we are human but this has to be the worst meal out to date and it was a celebratory occasion too, such a shame. My mum and dad waited 40 years to get married just a low key thing small family gathering and the day was ruined by Broughton inn and it’s completely unprofessional staff. I’d warn anyone thinking of going to Broughton Inn please do not go and waste your money! Stay home and give the money to charity and you will have a better time than going to this place!

Oh dear, what a disappointment. We'd chosen this place for their "Festive Menu" as it would be the only opportunity this year for "Christmas Dinner" with the in-laws, so we really didn't need anything to be wrong. Other than that, my expectations for a pub lunch aren't high. The Festive Menu was 2-courses for £26.50 and £29.50 for 3-courses, and having viewed the website, we knew what to look forward to. The starters were well-received - I had the camembert & cheddar mushroom fondue, which was very nice. Things went downhill after that. Whilst three tucked into their turkey dinners*, the only vegetarian dish on the Festive Menu (root vegetable wellington) wasn't available. We were told a large group had pre-ordered it, so there was none for us. Sneaky, as there's nothing on the website to say vegetarians need to pre-order their food. Aubergine gratin was a poor substitution - it wasn't Christmas dinner, was it? *The carrots were too tough (undercooked) to cut with a knife. And yes, we did mention it at the time. Still, there was pudding to look forward to, or was there? After ordering profiteroles, we were informed they weren't available either! So we left and bought cake from the co-op next door and went home for a cup of tea. Also, it is worth mentioning the service. The one young lady covering table service was pleasant and working hard, but with all the tables to cover on her own service was inevitably slow (it took ages for the starters to arrive). From us walking in to leaving was 2 hours, and bear in mind we had 2-courses and not the three we had intended. As we stood in the car park saying our goodbyes, we talked about planning our next meal and get-together. We all agreed it wouldn't be here. You don't get a second chance to make a first impression, and I'm sorry Broughton Inn but you let yourself down today.

Second time visiting, we were here last year for our annual birthdays and was so good we did it again this year, we also plan to come again next year... Today was 5 of us. The food is prepared really well and piping hot when served. Attention to detail is pretty good too. 100% honesty we had 1 missing portion of stuffing and 1 drink mix up which was very minor, did not detract from the meal at all and was rectified within no time at all. All five of us enjoyed our meals, the atmosphere was very pleasant as well which also helped. Pictures are of my dish of "Trio of meats Roast" and my wife had "Lamb Rump Roast" with a "Sticky Toffee Pudding" and "Eton Mess". We had a lovely time, see you next year the Wallace group at 1pm. Came here for tea. Couldn’t not recommend it enough. I had the Ribeye and my partner had the lamb shank. Amazing. Service was spot on and drinks were lovely. Definitely come here. We will be back (Schwarzenegger accent)

Always great food and friendly service. Could just do with being spruced up on the outside, looking tired and run down - peeling paint, cracked walls and leaky gutters!

We were recommended this place by a friend from Preston to stop at on our way to our honeymoon. So glad we did! Delicious home made food, with great chunky tasty chips! Tom and Ollie were so lovely and thoughtful! We liked it so much we are hoping to call again on our way back! Just off the M6 and easy to get to. 5* highly recommend.

Overall ambience and service was second to none. Seated straight away and allowed time to browse extensive menu. Offered drinks whilst choosing. Staff were polite and well presented. Food was Amazing!!

Great pub, great atmosphere. We stayed there in our motorhome and made to feel very welcome.

Love the cosy surroundings and ambience. Staff are always friendly and attentive and there is a great selection of food and drink - Most importantly of all, we are able to bring our dog.

Sunday roast well below average and certainly not worth the money charged for it. Maybe the management should visit the hunters and see how a roast dinner should be at that price. Will definitely not visit again

Excellent food. Garlic mushrooms were very tasty. Had fish and chips for main course. Fish was very fresh with great crispy batter. Chips nice and crispy. Very clean. Friendly, helpful staff. Very comfortable large table for our group of five. Great character wooden rafters and general decor. Good parking.

Went for the Lunch time special, 3 courses £20.50, definately wasnt dissappointed, the food was hot, beautifully presented and delicious. Lovely friendly staff and warm atmosphere. Will be going again.

Truly disappointed in my first visit. Stood for a while waiting at the 'please wait to be seated' sign, had to attract attention to be attended to. After being seated in the pet friendly area, despite not having any animals, I could have been allergic, and we had booked the other area, we were told there was no table service, and we had to order at the bar. Decided on drinks first, and waited at the bar, very slow service (other tables were being waited on, despite us being told there was no table service) once drinks were got, we all decided on what food. I returned to the bar to queue again. After 10 minutes waiting, I ordered the Sunday roast trio, was told there was no beef, only one turkey left and 5 lamb. I opted for pork belly instead. I ordered 2 of the pie of the day - to be told - no pies left. We then had to choose other items, which were not what we had come for. I ordered the kids pizza, which was tiny! The size of my hand, and for £8.50! I ordered pate to start, had to ask for butter. My brother chose the hunters chicken schnitzel, which arrived burnt and the salad was dire. After the tiny pizza was eaten my son was still hungry so I had to purchase him another. After ordering again at the bar, more queuing, took my seat for a waitress to come over and say there was now no more pizza. I had to get a refund as it was just too late to order more food and wait, they did offer some fries. Unfortunately these 'free' fries took so long to arrive it was too late. We tried to queue once again to discuss our concerns/disappointment in the food and service, but honestly couldn't wait any longer to see someone so just left. We will not be visiting again, and won't be recommending it either.

Stopped of on route to Scotland with the Campervan, we parked up and went in for dinner, we both had the Penang Curry, delicious even though it was very sticky Jasmine rice!! Customer service was a 10/10, had an issue with our drinks, asked for Cider but was given Madri, barman said it was different but after several sips we were not convinced, brought this to the attention of a member of staff, they went to investigate and returned with 2 new ciders and I could keep the Madri!! That’s customer service, thank you see you again!!

Vegetables undercooked, meat cold, gravy thin, potatos overcooked (couldnt use blunt knife to cut), overpriced for the quality in my opinion. Wont be going back.

Lovely cosy pub with great staff and varied food menu. Good selection of beers on tap. Dog friendly inc some dining areas. Recommend the lamb dishes, steak, pork belly and pies. The mini desserts and coffee are also a perfect way to end your meal.. top tip.. the crumble isn’t so mini 😉

Went here for a lunch with the family including my infant daughter. Wait staff were very accommodating and friendly. Food was good, I had the Gammon steak, which was good. Probably would get something else next time, but it’s not the fault of the chef, just a poor choice on my part. Everyone’s meals looked amazing, and my wife who has to eat a vegan diet due to allergies, was very impressed by everything. Absolutely would come again, the location makes it a great middle point between Blackburn and St Anne’s.

As a vegetarian for 30 years this is without doubt the best Sunday dinner I have ever had. The wellington absolutely first class. Never been to a place that caterer so well to vegetarians/vegans without the usual curry dishes.

Really looked forward to something special for a Sunday roast, mainly because of the price. But regrettably received a very below par meal. Roast potatoes are actually fried new potatoes, tasted like they were tinned, belly pork was dry, served without any crispy crackling, and strangely served with an apple pie, which to be fair was ok, would’ve been nicer with a bowl of custard. Very nice surroundings, staff were nice, but the food was poor, definitely won’t be going back.

So bad .. burnt food. Absolutely no offer of compensation and was told had to pay for drinks as we had drunk them. Even though most of it was drunk awaiting for burnt food to arrive. Head chef was off and GENERAL MANAGER WAS ACTING HEAD CHEF .. COULDNT GET ANY WORSE. WONT BE BACK. LEFT A BAD REVIEW

My mum and I came earlier today for the first time and it was honestly a lovely experience. Tom was super friendly and you can tell he just likes talking to people. He was super helpful when I asked for a modification on a burger and made us feel very welcome. The place also looks awesome. It reminds me of a modern DnD tavern (this is a compliment). I would really recommend a visit!

Came in for some dinner and was thrilled with their hearty seasonal pub food as well as a large selection of lager and craft ale. Service was excellent and staff were both friendly and attentive. Was served by Catherine who did a great job of managing a busy restaurant while taking extra care to ensure we had everything we needed. Will definitely be visiting again in the near future.

Annie was wonderful and very helpful, nothing to much of a problem. Another night Grace was amazing, very helpful, upped my stars to five 😜

Had a lovely meal here recently. Chicken burger, steak and fries. The honeycomb bomb was beautifully presented. All delicious. Service was excellent as well.

Brilliant pub. Classic pub meals. Cater for young children as well which worked perfect after a long drive.

I visited a couple of times while in the area. First night the lamb rump, second night the pie of the day. Friendly place and pleasant staff with some nice beers on tap. Price probably about average these days. On the second visit they had put an extra beer on the bill which I noticed and they rectified immediately with an apology- always a good sign of customer service - how they deal with issues. I would be happy to return

We went to the Broughton Inn having been delighted to see it was offering food on a Monday lunchtime - increasingly rare in pubs these days. We had the £15.95 special lunch menu (2 courses, £19.95 for 3). I had the mac n cheese with extra bacon - delicious! - and my friend had the steak frites. The desserts and coffee were excellent too. Add to that the very friendly and efficient service, and reasonably priced drinks and it made the perfect lunchtime outing.

We called in on spec and so pleased that we did. What a great place. It is a tardis inside and so homely. We opted for the Thai curry. Absolutely delicious. We were looked after so well by Jess who served us and Tom the general manager, came and discussed ingredients etc due to allergies. We will definitely come again to this superb pub and highly recommend a visit. A beautiful place.

We had the set lunch menu and it was delicious food and great value.....so much better than franchise places!!!

Got the calamari for starters and gammon for my main, overall the food was amazing and extremely great for value. The service was kimd and attentive and made sure to check in often, would definitely recommend coming here and get the calamari!

Come to the Broughton Inn regularly and always have a great time. Good food and atmosphere, also great in winter with the fire roaring.

From the moment we walked in felt a warm local buzz around the bar area. Ordered drinks and went through to the dining area another warm welcome. Great service and amazing food. Will be back that's for sure

Lovely pub, felt very welcome and the service was impeccable. We had the fish and chips, lasagna and pizza, all really good. Will definitely book again. If we lived closer I think we’d be in there heck of a lot!

Really nice building but lacking in finishing touches. Sat in the lounge area but it smelt of smoke as people were stood smoking just by the back door. Really stale strong smell. £7+ for a single vodka and ginger served by a really ignorant bar girl who left my partner's beer to go and chat with her mates. Won't be going back in a hurry. This used to be a lovely pub. Shame.

We booked a part of this beautiful pub for our 'Local Vocals' get together that we have every half term. The staff were very friendly and helpful, a couple of us are disabled and in wheelchairs, buggys or on crutches. The food was amazing. The place itself is stunning!! With all the beams, fireplaces and original features. It's like a tardlis inside and has a lovely beer garden outside. I'll definitely be going back.

Went for a friends birthday meal. Food was lovely but the service was absolutely terrible. They would not take any responsibility for the poor service it all seemed to be our fault. Charged us for service without asking. Highly recommended to give it a miss. Definitely won’t be back.

We ate a very nice hamburger 🍔, it came very quickly. Brownie and americano ☕️ were very nice. I loved the local pub.

Had dinner here a few consecutive days, so I was able to try several of their starters and main courses. There is a nice variety of options and the served food always met or exceeded expectations. The staff is really friendly and on top of things. Can reccommend for sure.

Went for a works meal & after being stuck in traffic for a long while, the broughton did not disappoint. The food was lovely, hot and the portion sizes are great for the prices. Our group really enjoyed the experience and cannot fault anything. Thankyou Tom and team for the lovely hospitality.

We come here regularly. Recently popped in for a quick lunch with my mum. Great food as always but It is the guy in charge who really makes this place. Friendly warm and creates a lovely atmosphere here. Thanks x x
