The Broken Bridge, Wetherspoons, Pontefract in Wakefield

Went to The Broken Bridge for Sunday lunch and genuinely enjoyed the visit. Yes, it's a Wetherspoons and by definition, you know roughly what you're going to get. However, the staff in Pontefract were very happy, extremely friendly and the food came out to us in good time. A couple of curries had been ordered and they were really very tasty indeed. The papadums were crispy and not at all greasy. The naan was well cooked and the curry was cooked perfectly. We left, well fed and ready to explore the rest if the town. Recommended.

Good value and friendly staff . Food is excellent value for money and shout out to Gemma , who is always busy , but still has a big smile for all the customers.

Love the pub friendly staff Gemma is a absolute diamond friendly helpful it’s a joy to be served by her. Pub wouldn’t be the same without her she’s a great worker love her to bits

I ordered small fish and chips....ham and eggs for my wife. When it came I was furious. On looking at the plate I thought the chef had forgot to put the fish on but, on closer inspection, there was a miniscule portion of battered fish, so small I mistook it for one of the chips..no joking. About 4" long and half inch thick...that was the "fish" I know it sounds like I'm eggagerating here but, on my life, that's what arrived, curled up too. The waitress went back to the kitchen and came back with another piece, the same size, alongside the first piece. ( Photos are with both pieces of fish showing..so imagine how I felt when they first served the one piece) The Manager also turned up and asked me to apologise to the waitress for the use of foul language and suggested I forked out some more money to get something like what I expected in the first place. My wife had finished eating her ham and eggs by this time and was getting at me for the swearing I had done. She agreed I had virtually been robbed, however. So that's done me for ever having food at Weatherspoons again. I wondered how they managed to sell cheap beer. Now I know how. Rob customers with the food.

Very good spoons, but was clearly understaffed. Took ages to get served

A member of staff (LADY) late 50s possibly the manageress, heavy build has seriously poor hygiene, Omg her breath was shocking, (foul) when she passed our table we could smell garlic and a strange fishy smell,, I for one won't go back there I lost my appetite immediately and left,,,

Breakfast was okay this morning but having to wait till after your food for your drinks to arrive is beyond a joke. asked for a kids menu and was told they don’t do kids breakfast but they do as they have them in every other weatherspoons instead they read what’s on over the counter, no good to my 4 year old very poor service need some customer service training

Went in one Thursday evening for some drinks the place was cold , asked the lady behind the bar if she could put heating on as it was cold and we were sat in our coats to keep warm , she refused and said she was warm , no way to treat paying customers

Great spoons. You really wouldn't expect it to be so large and capacious looking at it from the outside. The food and drink came quickly and to the quality we always expect from a Wetherspoons.

Visited to see a friend after they left I stopped for another got off a high stool to get another drink and was informed they didn't like the way I got off it and thought I had to much seriously!!!! a high stool, and u expect people not to get off them great. So had to leave not happy.

Needed a place to chill out and wait for an appointment and just happened to be passing so nipped in for lunch. Ordering with the app was easy and the food/drink arrived quickly. All I ordered was a small pizza and a soft drink and for a fiver you can't complain at all. Can't find any faults, even the WiFi was decent. The pub was tidy and clean. I used the loo before I left and it was equally clean.

Went for food Xmas eve, wasn’t overly busy but had to empty my own table prior to sitting. Ordered meals an send mine back as the chips were flat cold for it to be returned still same temperature. Didn’t bother eating them in the end, the steak was medium to well when I requested rare. My partner asked for tikka which didn’t taste like tikka at all. Won’t be going again for along time. Could have understood had the place been busy but it wasn’t. Staff just didn’t appear interested

A huge pub. Not much by way of atmosphere and hard to find a clean table.

Just another typical Spoons only the toilet is on ground level instead of miles away. Service was pretty quick considering it was fairly busy that morning with the breakfast and coffee drinkers who can’t afford Costa Starbucks. Clean and tidy considering it’s the size of an aircraft hanger. Warm enough to defrost an OAP.

I used to work here so staff always happy to see us and are always made to feel welcome. Very quick service and tasty food (as tasty as it can be microwaved) ha ha! Toilets on pub floor.. not 3 flights. Highly recommend for somewhere cheap and cheerful.

Staff got my order wrong, admitted they made a mistake, but no refund and had to pay for what I actually wanted on top of the wrong meal that arrived.

Very nice food shame I kept getting desterbed while eating to look at the damaged seating fabric on the benches would of been better done out of hours

Food and drink to the usual 'spoons standard. Table clearance shocking - were left looking at our empty plates for an hour or so. Ordered 2nd round of drinks on the app and even when they were brought, they failed to clear the table.

Very poor American Breakfast. Bacon half the size it used to be, yet you still get 4 pancakes. Hash browns were dried out too. Manager fetched when I complained to staff member. Manager apologised for hash browns, but nothing to be done about shrunken bacon. Refund offered and accepted. Shrinking food portions affecting spoons too, it's not just supermarkets ripping us off.

Service deplorable very busy only 2 young bar staff serving. Dont know what the waiting time policy is but i must have shattered it.

Came out for a enjoyable meal... well half of menu was unavailable, no signs to say why the only thing I enjoyed was the drinks both me and my partner had a burger and the chicken was dry it was supposed to come with chips and it arrived with a jacket potato and 1 butter so I asked a staff member if I could have a few more and never arrive to top it all the jacket potato was cold and didn't get and explanation as to not getting the butter absolutely shocking ...

Pleasant staff, good food for 10 of us served close together even though we paid separately. We have used Wetherspoon's all over Britain and find them reliable and consistent.

It's ok in here the food is poor sometimes in my view I've had to send it back and on occasions asked for a refund the tables very rarely get cleaned unless you do it yourself they do seem a bit short staffed not as well run as other Witherspoon's I've been to still the same / new management couple have taken over and things are improving it seems more cleaner the staff work better and faster it's getting there

Terrible food it was disgusting

We had breakfast here a few months ago and it was awful but thought we would give it another go…. Big mistake 🤦‍♀️ the plates were flat cold so everything on the plate was cold the eggs reminded me of those toy rubber eggs you get for children the single mushroom was a joke and the hash brown soggy but the toast was ok .

Absolutely diabolical. Cheap yes, but cheerful no. Ordered two brunches - bacon burnt to a literal crisp, beans cold. Not just lukewarm but cold. Tables filthy, floor looks like it's not been hoovered for weeks and one side of the pub has roadworks barriers sectioning off a pile of furniture?? Staff try their best but this is an awful spoons. Avoid.

Called in for a quick drink with a friend. Very busy but staff friendly and helpful. Good choice of drinks at great prices.

Waited at the bar patiently the 1st time but was over looked and ended up having to ask to be served. 2nd time to the bar I was again overlooked and as more and more customers joined the bar line I mentioned to a member of staff that I was the only person not being served at the bar! This was overlooked again until I finally gave up and left the premises.

Large pub near the centre of town, staff were friendly, food was typical cheap Wetherspoons food.

Don’t agree with these comments they do a great breakfast been going every Saturday morning and love it big up to the staff as well

The food here is just way too expensive now, you used to be able to get a burger and chips for £5, or 3 small plates for less than £10, those three small plates are about £15 now, for what, some chickens bites and chips. It would be okay if the food was anything decent but its just oven/microwaved food and the quality is rather lacking. Still good for drinks so gets a star for that, but just too expensive for food now.

Service when first ordered brill... ordered 2nd drink from the table... had to get myself after waiting 20 mins. if it was busy would understand but staff were stood doing nothing and my drinks were sat there on the bar when I went to ask where they were.. collected myself. cheers guys

Visited broken bridge today with my son not been since February so was looking forward to it, we ordered our food through the app ,the drinks came pretty quickly but the food took 50 minutes to arrive, can't understand why it should take that long as it wasn't busy ,the tables was dirty I had to use a wet wipe that I had in my bag and toilets were filthy.

It's a TARDIS!! It's a Wetherspoons. Very impressed, nice sunny beer garden and the toilets are downstairs. Top marks

Amazingly spacious place that doesn't look it from the exterior.Not as nicely decorated as some of the other Wetherspoons I've visited but clean , tidy and with efficient friendly staff. Food was served very quickly and was piping hot .As with all this chain the prices you pay are a steal for the quality and quantity you get.Well worth a visit if your in Ponte shopping or for a night out with friends.

Mmm for a wetherspoons not a nice pub my hubby went to the bar to order drinks and the bar staff just ignored him so he ordered by phone and the toilets werent very clean some of the door locks werent on very disapointing

Heating never on when it’s cold and told by manager to put your coat on if you’re cold,that’s not good management every other weather spoons we’ve been to the heating is on all night

Fast service, not the best meals we've had, but not bad for the money. It has quite a large dining area but there were very few empty tables, so it is obviously a popular eating venue.

3 weeks running got food order wrong not good when I have food allgies n inform bar staff had a real snotty waitress throw my food at me

Extremely slow service, no where near enough staff.

The evening staff have no customer respect and can be rude and un caring, they need training in customer service if the bar manager owned the pub she’d would have no customers left

There are some times when service is so poor it become samusing! Wasn't busy but the service was so slow could have brewed my own! No guest real ale so settled for Abbot. Abbot is fine bit nothing special. Haven't been in a spoons in years. Are they are this poor? I hope so! Maybe they might start closing!!!

Good atmosphere, plenty of locals frequent this place.

Came for breakfast with friends and a catch up. Oh my lord. No brown sauce for breakfast. My bacon sandwich the bacon was cold and very fatty. Husband big breakfast was cold, sausage , bacon eggs over cooked only think what was warm was extra black pudding. One friend ordered toast n jam that was burnt in my eyes and cold. Staff wasn’t interested. Was going to make it a meet up point for working friends every fortnight for breakfast but been a let down.
