Looked a lovely little pub fro. The outside and obviously very popular. Quite a few people sat outside, quieter inside. Ordered food and drinks, as it got busier and after 45 minutes we asked how long it would be to be told that it would be the next order to come out. When the food did arrive we could see straight away that the Beef Rogan Josh looked a bit dry, however it was also luke warm. We told a member of staff would then told a member of the bar staff, who then took it to the kitchen. When the meal came back (same meal) it was hot but even more dried up than before. The member of staff who had taken it to the kitchen came to clear the table and we told her it wasn't good just to have sorry I will tell the chef but the kitchen has been really busy. According to the kitchen opening times it opens at 5pm, we placed our order around 5.25pm.....

Been here on many occasions. Great for the dogs. But recently decided to have something to eat . We decided on just chips for 2 of us. The wife went and ordered them . She came back and said I hope there nice and come in large bowls because its just cost over £6 . There was hardly anyone there but took 30 minutes to arrive. 2 SMALL BOWLS OF CHIPS. Should take 15 minutes at most from frozen. When they did oh dear a small bowl of frozen style chips from a supermarket. That's the first time and the last we'll eat there mainly cost speed size of portions and snail service .

Tried the Beef Rogan Josh for a change as food is usual ok but this meal was awful. Curry sauce looked more like gravy and the taste was very spicy hot without tasting of curry. The beef was apparently pulled beef rather than chunks of beef but the taste and texture was not good. To me it tasted more like fish than beef and the texture was strange. Wouldn't have it again. Cost me a fair amount of money and spoiled meal. Staff where informed.

Disappointingly I am writing this review after our visit their 2 hours ago . We in the past have had no issues with our food or drink and have always sung its praises to family and friends and was always the place we would take our grandkids too when they were with us . My partner ordered sausage egg chips and beans at a cost of £8.95 , when it arrived the portion sizes were that of a child’s portion , a table spoon of beans , 2 sausages 1 egg and a handful of chips , our 5 year old grand son would have loved it. The plate was small and their was plenty of space left but portion size did not justify the price and was not a meal you would serve to an adult . What he had was tasty and he said as much to the girl who collected our plates but said he felt like he was being fed as a child not a grown man . She said she would tell the manager but that was as far as it got , no one came out to see US , not even the owner . In the meantime we were subject to the rude Newly appointed young manager who came out and shouted across the conservatory area where we were sitting to a table of regulars of 4 people who had 2 dogs one of which was a 4 month older black Labrador puppy who had emptied the water bowl and was playing with it . This manager shouted for them to control their puppy and for it to stop playing with the water bowl, he then went back inside to the bar and within a couple of minutes stormed back out to them to tell them to keep their dog on a lead ! The puppy was only saying hello to us and no one else , and was not causing any issues . Appreciate that said puppy could have wondered to another table where folk or other dogs may not have been appreciative of his friendly nature, however there was no need for this newly appointed manager to have shouted across the room to them , his manners left a lot to be desired . The conservatory room at this pub as a lovely sign above the door that states about “ man is trained for the convenience of the dog” and basically about the pub being Dog friendly! Anyhow that family with their 2 dogs who said they have been going their for 5 years left like us , where we both ended up at another venue down the road to finish off our evening. We shall not return to Brean Down which is sad

I have eaten here for past few years and been happy with meals, but today I was very disappointed because I ordered sausage egg beans and chips and was very disappointed as it was a like a having a child meal. I spoke to the waitress and complained and said please let the manager know but nobody came out. I went had a child's meal at another venue and the portion was the same size for half the price that they were charging. While we we're there we called a friendly puppy dog over to us for s stroke but the the new appointed manager marched out and shouted across the room to get dog on a lead. Nobody had complained. The new bar manager is very rude. Been coming for years but because of this managers attitude I will not be returning again.

I then asked another waitress who told me she didn’t serve our side of the seating area but would get our waitress to come and take our order. ( this didn’t happen!) After waiting a bit longer I asked another waitress who said she only collected empty glasses , Eventually after 30 minutes a waitress came to our side of the pub. I asked her if we could order drinks? She shouted at me to wait my turn and she would work her way down the tables to us, even though the other tables had already got drinks. I said we have already been waiting 30minutes to which she replied ‘ how would you like to work in this hot weather if you want to be served quicker go to the Beachcomber!’ Which we did and had a lovely welcoming experience plus a drink. We wouldn’t go back to that pub if you paid us,

I have been going to brean for 30 years. The brean down inn has been a staple in my bank holiday diet for decades. I am beyond disappointed, to the extent where I felt it necessary to leave a review. Staff were not only terribly slow, with no sense of urgency, but down right rude. There was no order to any of the tabling, some customers were being served drinks and then food and then another round of drinks before some tables were even able to submit a drinks order. Family’s with very young children left without water or any offers of sustenance. The split between the table sections meant that one side was fully served, which had the hardest working & most polite man in bean who was clearly grafting his a** off in comparison to a side which was dying of a drought. It got so bad, I felt like going to grab an apron myself and offering my service for free. Honestly, sort it out, I went for a weekend away and left with a broken heart! Still waiting for my pint....

Walked round the back to find someone to be told we were quiet so locked up even though we told them we were on our way down. Pubs are complaining that they need trade and then pull stunts like this. Don’t waste your time offering them trade. We walked 2 minutes up the road and found The Beachcomber. They were very professional and helped us out. Food was excellent standard, plentiful and not the usual microwave food many pubs serve up, dog friendly also and ran by a villa fan. What more can you ask for 😂

Been going to the Brean Down in for over 14 yrs. the last couple of years it was a mess. Dirty, lazy staff. We went at tea time once and dinner plates still left dirty in outside area. This year WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT.

We initially went in for coffee with our jack Russell, she was greeted warmly and given loads of treats and really fussed over the coffee was good. We then went back after our walk for lunch both of us had fish and chips which was very good the batter was light and cooked very well. Chips were good too. Unfortunately our dog peed on the stone floor but we were told d not to worry and sure lots of others had done it and they came with bucket and mop and gave it a good clean up. The place is quite dated but clean and lots of seats indoors and out. We will be going againt

We called in here whilst on holiday when Aston Villa were playin in the playoff final. The managers are fVilla fans but had a laugh with us in Wolves shirts! It is dog and child friendly. We ate here twice and the service and food were excellent. I recommend it to anyone

Met up with family and chose this place because it was in a convenient location. We were so glad that we did. 2 meat eaters 1 vegetarian and 1 vegan. All really well catered for. Great food , good value and friendly helpful staff. Although it's dog friendly we were really pleased that there is a separate dining room which is dog free! I like dogs but not where I'm eating so such a good idea to have a dog free space for folk like me. Will definitely return if we are ever in the area again. What an amazing find!

Fed up of our usual places for lunch so came here for the first time today. Was surprised how quiet it was, perhaps because the season is over? There is a large under cover seating area plus a large conservatory. We sat in the bar and ordered cheese bacon burger which came with chips and coleslaw. Did not have long to wait and it was very tasty. Only a few more people came in before we left which is a shame as the food is very good and the staff friendly.

This is the most dog friendly pub in Brean. They are allowed in the pub, conservatory, and the over head outdoor canopy. They even have dog treats on the bar.

Firstly I was met with incredible customer service from the lady I spoke to today (Friday 20th sept 2024) which was initially why I had chosen this truck stop as she was informative on the phone about directions, facilities and spaces and the same in person upon arrival telling me clearly where things are and so on. The toilets and showers here was clean and tidy but as for the cafe given my late arrival on a Friday this was closed but this is to be expected as a HGV driver. Just over the road is a pub that serves good food and drink as well as hotels and shops within walking distance so this is a fantastic location for a truck stop that I see doing well in the future.

Popped in off the off-chance of a place for 2 for carvery, having come acctoss the place walking our dog by the canal and was not disappointed. Landlord most welcoming, food excellent, staff attentive. Would be nice in the summer with outside area available and easy access close to M5. Recommended

Awful ! Overpriced ... poor service ! No meals except pastries .... a sausage roll was £6.95 ! I know it's a National Trust and we are members I agree they do a great deal of good. However, with such a prime seaside spot .... loads of families on the beach ...they should offer normal seaside food and priced! We had a coffee and a slice of cake and it came to £20 for 2 of us. Families are struggling at the moment. I can't understand why they don't offer traditional seaside food like a bag of chips, ice creams, lollies, milk shakes etc. They have a prime spot with a captive audience as its the only cafe at Brean down. Felt very dissapointed it could be so much improved !.... prices are Ridiculous !!!!! Service is bad you order then go to another partcto collect , no please or thank you ! I think they love dogs more than people !
