The Breakwater Bistro in Torbay

Attend a wedding reception at bistro in October, what a fantastic place. The food and the sevice was outstanding . The view from the bistro is amazing and it made for a perfect setting the wedding reception . The staff work tirelessly thought the whole evening and nothing was too much trouble. I highly recommend you visit this place if your in the area.

Great beach side restaurant serving the best chips in Brixham, especially when eaten on the beach. Really friendly staff. Great for a rest stop if you are walking the South West costal path or admiring all the boats and ships sailing into the Harbour. The ice cream is also Fantastic!

Ate here years ago and were blown away by the food and the knowledge and professionalism of the staff. It's still a lovely place but it feels like the evening service isn't the main event any more. Very young staff with no idea about the menu. Drinks on the menu not available. Young staff left doing all the work while other staff were downstairs chatting. Not sure I'll return for an evening meal in future. Very sorry to say.

This place has had a major refurbish since my last visit many many years ago. It really is in a wonderful position looking out over Brixham Harbour and the fresh local seafood was wonderful.

Sunday breakfast on the bank holiday weekend, so we were worried we’d have to wait to be seated, particularly as there were 7 of us, plus dog. However, we arrived just before 10am and were seated straight away. Menu was fab with lots of choice. Food was served promptly and was piping hot and very tasty. We ordered big breakfasts, bacon cobs, scallops & bacon etc. hot chocolates were amazing and coffee just what was needed. Staff very friendly and attentive. Will def return.

Great location arrived 7.15pm ordered 7.20pm starter and drinks arrived10minutes later so far good .At 8.30pm main had not arrived I spoke to waitress she said they had been busy with TAKE AWAYS so I said I would pay for what we had and walk away as I was not waiting any longer. Told our food was on its way eventually arrived 8.45pm If you want very SLOW service this is the place to go I asked for and got 20% discount on the meal so if you are kept waiting ask for discount

We booked a dinner at 19:15 only hours before we went, no issues. It has all been re-done since we was last in Brixham and looked lovely. Given a nice table upstairs to sit and view the sea. Staff was all friendly and helpful. Food was yummy and kids absolutely loved the dessert. Would I come back - yes. (No dogs in the restaurant)

We ate and drank there several times during a weeks break having Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. Sitting inside above the beach we enjoyed fantastic fresh seafood. Staff are really attentive. Reasonable prices for the quality of food when considered against other local places. Only used the outdoor serving hatch twice, once for a drink on the first day before going inside to sit down and eat and once on the last day for a ice cream. The ice cream trip was the only negative when served by a staff member that was obviously having a bad day with the string of customers outside the Bistro.

We had a very nice meal here, a lovely outlook over the bay and a good menu. If you enjoy fish and seafood you will love the food. Staff were friendly and the service was good. I think the setting of this restaurant is it's biggest pull and I am told it does a great breakfast as well. Prices were not cheap, but the fish is fresh so I expected high prices. Lobster, mussells, turbot, scallops, there is a great choice. I would recommend to friends.

Decided to dodge the showers and head to the breakwater bistro for some lunch now the new menu has been launched. We weren’t disappointed as there is a lot to choose from including sandwiches, small plates to salads to the tempting grill. Trying to stay light we both had a fisherman’s salad which is very generous in size and delicious in taste. One small point to consider the large king prawns could have done with deveining so we decided to leave them but in fairness they didn’t need them. Being sited where it is it seemed every other table had a wet dog so if you’re allergic bear in mind. Will definitely go back but probably go in the evening to try the ambience

For no rhyme nor reason we haven’t been to the Breakwater Bistro for a little while. But I must say when we went one wet Sunday for breakfast it was superb, really superb! Everything was nicely cooked and piping hot. The service was friendly and efficient, and the view, well that just never changes. Love it, won’t leave it so long to go back next time.

Whilst spending a week in Brixham we visited here twice, once for drinks and secondly for breakfast. The place is clean, warm and the team are all great. The breakfast was stunning and the local coffee was smooth and rich. We had a small breakfast and hash brown bap. Top quality food at a reasonable price point with great great local views. A must to visit at anytime of the year.

The staff were very sullen. No smiles. Prawn rose Marie sarnie had only a minimum amount of the sauce and was tasteless. Best thing was the lovely view. Doubt it we will visit again.

I love this place - there is always a friendly member of staff, & brilliant food. I had a berry tea & passion cake: bloomin marvellous. It’s right on the beach & they just don’t take anything for granted, it’s good every time & I’ve been here for everything from morning coffee, lunch, cocktails & nachos, evening dinner & Sunday roast. Don’t miss it if you’re coming to Brixham, it’s a gem (not sure about the bell art installation though, more funeral toll than jolly seaside ding!)

This is one of our favourite places as a family to sit with a coffee and enjoy the view. The service is friendly and excellent and they always handle our complicated drinks order with ease. Just a shame it's full of dogs. We counted at least ten this visit!

A family dinner for four - on a cold November night. We had booked earlier in the day, although it was fairly quiet we visited. Our group had a veggie, meat eater and two who preferred fishy items. We all found something to like on the menu - as well as on the drinks menu! Service also good - attentive but not over bearing. Well done!

Really lovely spot with splendid views, friendly staff and good food. This place is dog friendly and they have two tables just inside for those who cannot manage the stairs. This is so much appreciated as we all have mobility issues including the dog.Always visit when in the area.

Very disappointing. We used to go years ago, but stopped during the pandemic. We ventured back despite the disappointing menu (their seafood platters used to be legendary), but really wish we hadn’t. Stuffed with tacky plastic Halloween tat and seems confused about what it wants to be. It certainly isn’t a good restaurant anymore.

Visited today, family of 3 plus a dog. Table was booked via Facebook messenger a few weeks ago, and thank goodness we did as they were fully booked. We had a lovely table upstairs with a great view. Ordered 2x Sunday dinners, 1x burger. Food was really good, couldn’t fault it. Service was great too. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Visited as a large family for Sunday lunch had a lovely seat in the window, all meals were thoroughly enjoyed would recommend !

Heard a lot of rumours about this place & our curiosity got the better of us. Had the most incredible breakfast, scallops & bacon are a must. We also had some lush smoothies & the coffee was lovely too. Staff were amazing and all clearly have a great working relationship with eachother, the atmosphere was just so.nice. Will be back soon for breakfast, lunch & dinner. xxx

Two out of five for the fact that we have so many wonderful memories here over the years but it has just gone down hill so much. Really sad and I hope it one day gets back to being what it deserves to be. Nice staff but the service is appalling.

The choice of menu is not as good as when the previous owner had it ! Our food was served cold ! We will not be returning!

What a beautiful setting. We enjoyed a lovely day at Brixham and stumbled upon this lovely place at the end of the harbour. We enjoyed a takeaway drink and sat in the benches watching people enjoy the late summer evening. Such a great spot away from the main bars near the centre. As it was so beautiful there, we decided to give the Bistro a go for our evening meal. Sitting on the balcony enjoying the view was stunning. The staff were welcoming without being pushy and allowed us time to enjoy. Our meal was hot and delicious, one of the juiciest burgers I’d had in a long while. Thank you.

My husbands family is here and he grew up on this beach so it’s a very special place for us that we visit each and every time we come to Brixham. Over the years we have seen it through rough times, through storms that battered it and watched it rise again each time. This time however it certainly hasn’t reached its peak. I’ll admit it looks better, the building and layout have certainly seen some TLC, but the service was just ok, and the food was nowhere near its best and had a very limited menu. I had a smoked salmon and cucumber sandwich - the bread was thin, clearly shopbought, with not much salmon and huge cucumber chunks rather than slices. My husbands burger was ok but the chips were greasy and very over cooked . I hope that the bistro continues as it’s an amazing place and we love dearly but it definitely needs some work on the service and food offerings. The view however will never change and is one of the best things in the world to us.

Went for breakfast at 10 a.m.we were abruptly told by the little lady receptionist that they weren't open (even though one of her chums was sipping coffee) and the sign on the door clearly said 9 a.m opening time. We ❤️ the Breakwater Bistro and having drinks at the beach. Love the location and the casual outdoor bar. So laid back, in a beautiful spot and visit every evening when in Brixham ln hols. Hopefully will continue to visit the beach bar going forward even when new developments push ahead.
