We booked a family lunch in the Brasserie on the strength of the reviews not having been there before. From arriving the staff were friendly and helpful. The ambience in and outside The Brasserie was just what we needed. The food was great especially the puddings. It was a very enjoyable lunch. We thank all the staff who contributed to making it so. Well done!

We dined at the Brasserie two nights in succession whilst staying at the Hotel itself. In (very) warm weather a pre-meal drink on the Patio really starts the whole thing off. Bit disappointed - that it was the same menu two days running. Food was good - rather than outstanding (Puddings were great!!) Portions were a bit on the small side. Service, from the very helpful waiters, was a bit haphazard - better communication needed amongst them to avoid misunderstandings.

Had a fantastic lunch, very fresh and served quickly. Just need to work on the staff! While all were friendly we were greeted and waited initially by what seemed to be the cook? Wasn’t as polished in serving as he other waitress which we also had. Was a perfect sunny day so lunch on the outside terrace was a must and didn’t disappoint. Definitely one to go back to.

We were seated in the patio area of the Brasserie; great on a summers evening. We missed starters - for mains we were able to order two dishes from the vegetarian menu and the remainder from regular menu. Great choices on both menus. I opted for the sea trout, could not fault it at all, great taste, nice portion and well presented. For desert, I had the cheese board, nice twist on crackers - you’ll have to find out for yourself.

Came here for an evening meal with the family, having very much enjoyed the food at the Dining Room (same venue, different restaurant) and hoping for another quality dining experience. The ambience of the Brasserie is great; attentive and friendly staff (if a little slow off the mark at times), soft lighting and pleasant décor, good background music. The menu is a little sparse in terms of choice, but I've found that at quality restaurants, a smaller menu is generally a harbinger of great food. The pea risotto was delicious; the gourmet burger was decent enough. The roast pork special was very disappointing indeed; the meat was rather dry with insufficient gravy/jus to compensate, the root vegetables were bland and tasteless, the roast potatoes were unpleasantly chewy and gave the distinct impression they'd been reheated, and the "Yorkshire pudding" was so hard that you could have used it as a melee weapon. My dessert was similarly uninspiring, a blueberry and blackcurrant cheesecake which looked stunningly beautiful but, through some unknown alchemy, had been rendered almost flavourless. My wife ordered an Irish coffee without recourse to the price list - a mistake, although quite how one justifies £9.50 for a coffee with a splash of Jameson's in it is frankly beyond me, so perhaps we shouldn't blame ourselves too much. In all, a sizeable dent in my wallet, without anything approaching the quality of food which might have excused the expense. A triumph of style over substance, I'm afraid, and poor value for money.

We wanted that weekend where quality and class was assured and Mallory Court was the obvious choice. What transported this experience to FAB was the service at dinner. We opted for the tasting flight menu and it was superb but the wine added to the knowledge of Florie and we are now experiencing a marvellous dining event. It’s that individualistic treatment and that attention to detail that exudes from each aspect of this place; from the wooden panels, to the rose garden to the richly upholstered rooms. Another charming visit in the bag.

The Brasserie is pleasant and as it was a sunny day it was an ideal location. We had drinks in the garden, I ordered a Bloody Mary and it came without vodka. The service was quite low. Ordered from a fairly good menu. I had squid with ginger which was under seasoned and there wasn’t any ginger flavour to it. I then had lamb which was edible. When we sat down my father in law who is quite deaf could hear us all well but then a very noisy party came in and this caused a problem for him. As it became more busy the service tailed off which was annoying especially as it was extremely expensive. I would have expected more for the money.

We were staying nearby and decided to have lunch at the Brasserie. My husband has been here in the past, before we met but for myself it was the first time. Wow what an experience. The starter and the mains which was a fish was absolutely exquisite. It was as it should be cooked, moist, soft very well seasoned with fresh vegetables and roast potatoes. We thoroughly enjoyed it and did not mind the price as it was well worth the whole experience.

We visited for the Boxing Day lunch and it was really wonderful. They had a great starter buffet with poached salmon, rillettes, mackerel, delicious salads etc. This was accompanied by fresh baked rolls and, if you wanted, a nice cup of homemade soup. The main courses were exciting things including black bream with a caviar sauce, gammon (a traditional Boxing Day choice) and roast beef. Generous portions and lovely cheesy broccoli and cauliflower. I had the gammon which was tender and tasty with a mustard sauce and perfectly cooked new potatoes. The puddings were festive and exciting too- we had the ginger sponge with pineapple and the Baileys brûlée with a little glass of Baileys. This was all followed by freshly made mince pies with delicious crispy pastry, chocolates and coffee. All for £35! Great value for such a generous and high quality Boxing Day dinner in lovely surroundings. The restaurant was beautifully decorated in black and gold to match the decor, even down to the excellent crackers. There was a really festive atmosphere and as ever the staff were warm, friendly and efficient. A lovely way to spend Boxing Day. Thank you and I wish all the staff a well-deserved break and a happy new year!

Sadly this place is falling behind the bar set by newer opened restaurants. The room is shabby and needs a refurb, there were flies floating around our table all the time. The menu read really well but the service let us down (we had to ask for the wine we ordered to be brought out, we were pestered for an order, I could go on. When the food arrived (bread - nice sourdough, butter etc, average olives still floating in their marinade then bream with Nicose salad - nice fish, undercooked new potatoes, limited salad & dressing, undercooked triple cooked chips that were a bit soggy) it looked the part but as detailed wasn't really up to it when eaten. Shame - have eaten here over the last 4 years.

After thoroughly enjoying a spa evening booked for us from our children, little did we know the ‘complementary 2 course meal with a glass of bubbly’ would be such a disappointment. After seating in the restaurant we were abruptly told by a member of staff that we only had £25 to spend, money was not a problem but to be told this in front of other guests was disgusting. We sat at the table and ordered our food at 8.15, 9.15 comes we still have no food and are tried to be palmed off with some bread and olives, never mind the fact that now the restaurant was practically empty! Finally we get our food, apparently there was a computer malfunction that only effected our table, as a gesture they bought the round of drinks we had, but no actual apology, it was clearly home time at this point for the staff and they just wanted us out. A round of drinks does not make up for an embarrassment of a meal where you are singled out and discriminated by the staff because you’ve gone using a spa day. Oh and even better when you email the company to say your not happy you get offered another round of drinks... as if we would ever set back foot in that place, ruined the whole evening, and apparently it’s 5 stars!

Mallory Court Brasserie is back on form with the return of a set menu and the addition of a BBQ. Had a lovely lunch and one option was to go and choose meat and salad from the BBQ and salad bar in the garden. Excellent meat and a great idea. Lovely to have a burger cooked just for me and the goats cheese was a great idea. We’d worried the piri piri chicken might be too spicy, but it was juicy and delicious. Dessert dainty, exquisite and brilliant as ever. Love the strawberry juice they do too. Service is always efficient and professional, yet genuinely warm and welcoming and it nice to see so many regular customers each time I go. Coffee has improved and I enjoyed this too. Just two small requests- maybe a mint or biscuit with the coffee? And I’d love to see some new puddings- your regular options are great, but it would be nice to have new choices for us regular customers. A coffee pudding or some kind of ice cream sundae would be exciting.

We have had great meals here before so was expecting something really special. We were welcomed and a drinks order taken and then we were shown to our table. I was disappointed to think the decor was boring and bland and not at all cosy or premium. The choice on the menu was good but we were immediately told that 3 or 4 things were off that evening. We chose the burger and the chicken pitta, with soup to start. The pea soup was very vinegary and no bread was served with it, so was disappointed with that. The mains were very nice, but pretty basic stuff - I've had better chicken pittas at my local farm shop. The onion rings were the highlight of the meal really. The desert was nice, but not amazing and was given to us free because I had to point out that there was a large spot of mould on my pitta bread. Luckily it doesn't really bother me, so I ate the rest of it, but it's not what you expect from a high end restaurant like this. The service was stuffy and uninterested with no smiles. Probably won't choose to go here again.

My husband had advised Mallory Court when he booked our table of 6 that we were celebrating my father-in-law's 90th birthday but there was not a single acknowledgement of that. In fact my inlaws were practically treated soddily by the staff and their meals delivered last or even forgotten. A sharp contrast with the Saxon Mill where we took him for lunch, where he was greeted effusively and afforded every courtesy. The service at the Brasserie was confused. Orders were forgotten. Delays between items being delivered to the table. My sister-in-law's large glass of wine was delivered as a small glass and when she requested a second glass, it turned up after she had completed her meal and so was sent back. The food itself was indifferent. The starters were pleasant. The beef was very pink for something that we'd been told was medium-welldone and the rock hard Yorkshire Puddings were needless to say inedible.Four of six hot drinks arrived and we had to chase up the remaining two. Once delivered not a word of apology was spoken.Extremely disappointing.

We had a large party of us booked in for a birthday party on a Sunday afternoon and had specifically requested 2 round tables. Instead we had 1 long table, which they apologised for but why wasn't it explained when we booked that this wouldn't be possible? We had pre-paid for some prosecco and OJ to have and this was provided free of charge to compensate for the table fiasco. It also took a while for all of the meals to come out at the same time. There were huge gaps between those who ordered soup and those who ordered salmon. Having said that the food was nice and I enjoyed it. We did have to ask for more bread and butter though. When it came to settling the bill, we presumed that all wine had been added onto the same bill. Not the case. One bottle had been billed separate which we weren't aware of, until the manager came running round the car park like a mad man demanding payment for it just as we were leaving. Very unprofessional and baffling to be honest, especially when he had knocked several bottles of expensive prosecco off the bill yet was panicking over some poxy house red? There was also a dispute over a 1 and 2 year old - £12.50 each for the erm what? So we queried this and it was taken off after they realised the absurdity. Anyway shan't be back sadly. The service just wasn't up to scratch.

I had the crab starter, which for £9.50 was barely more than a quenelle. No bread was offered, and when we requested some, it took them an age to 'arrange' some in a basket. Obviously an 'unusual' request! Other courses were much the same, but when we showed our disappointment, it was met with total disinterest by the waiter. Why ask "how things are", if you have no interest in the customers feedback. I was highly embarrassed as well as disappointed, as it was myself that had chosen this venue. The weather on the evening we used the restaurant was chilly and we were not made aware the Brasserie was a separate building until we came down to the reception and naturally we did not have a jacket. It would be a good idea to build a covered in walkway.

We booked our table a month a few weeks before our meal and made sure we specified that the meal was for a special occasion. On arrival there was no warm welcome, or even acknowledgement of our presence for a number of minutes as staff continued with the jobs they were doing such as polishing glasses at the bar right next to us or continuing to lay tables. No apology was given for keeping us waiting either. With the restaurant being quite small and out of town there are few walk-in's and so most diners pre-book, therefore staff should have a good idea when people were arriving. On being shown to our table, we noted that there was only one other table occupied by a family in the restaurant. Despite there being at least three if not four servers working, taking the order took a long time with another table being seated, drinks orders taken and brought before ours were even taken. Very poorWhen the meals arrived the family members who had ordered soups, were given a serving without the offer of bread or if it wasn't being served with it, at least told when ordering in case they wanted any. Why have side plates if there's no bread at all provided for the table? One member of the party received their starter a good few minutes after everyone else, despite ordering the same dish. No apology was provided for this either.Main meals were ok, rather than excellent as had been the case on previous occasions. Following the main we had to wait an awfully long time to get the plates removed and as a result decided to move on to somewhere else rather than staying for desserts, coffees and a few drinks in the bar area.Only when having chased for the third time did the bill arrive, at which point the server asked if we enjoyed the meal. On saying "no, it was poor as was the service". the lady said that they had been busy. That's ridiculous for a restaurant of this "supposed" standard / quality, as someone in a Beefeater, Harvester or any other restaurant would have provided better service to more tables than this entire restaurant on their own. With 4 staff working, there was no excuse for such poor service. On leaving we had to find our own coats from the coat rack near to the bar whilst the maître d' / duty manager stood cleaning glasses. No apology or even a goodbye. As someone who has been visiting Mallory Court for over 30 years, I am extremely disappointed by the service provided and have no plans to return as a result. Standards have most definitely dropped here, and I would urge you to look elsewhere for a meal!

Better than I thought it'd be by a long way, judging by its TA position; maybe this just reflects the large number of good restaurants in the area. The service was very attentive and smiley. The menu wasn't too big but everyone found something they wanted and there were clean plates all round. We were given private dining at no extra charge as there were 9 of us, but we still frequently had a member of the team popping in to cater to our needs. Minor moans only - didn't like the 'elevator music' background to our meal, and the wine glasses were a bit small & the same for red and white.

We decided to spoil ourselves and wanted to check out the venue for my friend's daughter's upcoming wedding and am so glad we did! The place is gorgeous and the service so perfect from the moment that you walk in until you leave. We were invited to sit in the bar whilst we perused the bar and wine lists and our order was taken by a young man {who offered us water as well as our drinks} and we chose our meal whilst sipping on a very good reasonably priced wine and then a charming young woman named Andrea, showed us to our seats in the great dining room. The table was laid with the most sparkling glasses that I have ever seen and the food arrived ~ I can honestly say that it was one of the most perfect meals that I have ever eaten and the silver service was second to none.We had asked a question about the wedding service and we were shown the rooms etc, literature was provided and after we had wandered through the incredible grounds we entered the old house where again we met were met with such politeness and help that we left very happy bunnies!

I have reviewed Mallory court before as we got married there and have eaten there and could not praise highly enough. Thought I would surprise the wife and book a valentines meal which at £80 per head with the £50 drinks flight on top I was expecting the same as I have come to expect. How wrong was I. Booked for 815 on 14th Feb for the 5 course menu. To say the experience was rushed we were being hounded to order coffee at 9.10. Starter of pork belly which I know can be fatty was more fat and very little pork. Venison Wellington had soggy pastry with more mushroom filling than meat. One of the waiters couldn't speak English when asked a basic question regarding menu. Wine experience was well below the standard I would expect for £50. I tried to speak to the waitress when paying the bill and voiced my concerns about the experience but a smile and my card was taken with no mention of speaking to management. We went over to the Brasserie at 930 for a drink while we waited for our cab to be met by the bar manager high fiveing his staff about how much money they had taken that evening. Made to feel like we were intruding asking for a drink.I emailed the management about our experience which has taken over two weeks to get an answer. So taxis and babysitters on top of the £300+ meal and drinks and they admitted in there words 'we got it wrong ' to be offered another meal at Mallory court. A hotel living on past accolades run by what seemed to be bank staff. Won't be going back.

We had heard great reviews so my Husband booked it as a late Valentine's meal at the weekend. On arrival we were greeted and sat in the bar area and told our drinks order would be taken. After 10 minutes no drinks order was taken and we were asked our name and time of booking and then taken through to our table. The room was half empty only 4 tables occupied so I'm unsure why we were left waiting so long. This was when I had a feeling things weren't going to get any better and they didn't.We sat at our table for 5 more minutes before being given a drinks menu. I had to chase for our wine 15 minutes after ordering it and was told the delay was due to it being in the cellar. I think they forgot it. It took 30 minutes from arrival to get our first drink! We ordered the sharing plate of cap of rump steak which was presented beautifully and tasted fantastic! Unfortunately we were left to eat it with a normal dinner knife and had no serving spoon to serve The piping hot dauphinois potatoes so after struggling to cut the beef I had to get up and walk through the restaurant to find someone to give us 2 steak knives and a spoon. No mustard or horseradish was offered for the beef which my husband would have loved but at this point I didn't want to get up again and no staff came to see if we needed anything. The final straw was our side of chips not turning up and our Waitress didn't even realise until I told her when she cleared the table. I politely told them about the catalogue of errors and our poor service received and the explanation was "I'm sorry, I'm sorry but there is a wedding next door"I asked for a manager and he did eventually come and apologised but also explained they were busy next door. He did compensate us by reducing our bill but unfortunately it was a disappointing night out that we had looked forward to.The chef did a fantastic job it's just a shame the kitchens hard work was let down by inexperienced, unsupervised waiting staff and weddings taking priority.

A truly lovely meal with all dishes and courses cooked perfectly. This is a hotel i have returned to many times, both in the fine dining main house restaurant and the brasserie. This meal was in the brasserie thoughOur party ordered dishes from both the set menu and A La Carte menu, and all were as good as each other. Desserts were good, but the main courses excellent. The house red was particularly good too

Visited here for lunch with the family. Car parking for wheelchair users is a bit of a distance but it was a bit downhill to the entrance which made the effort OK.We had the set lunch and found the dishes were very nice indeed with the portion sizes just right for me but some might find the a bit on the small side. The only slight problem I had in the wheelchair was the table was too low for me to get my knees under. Service was just right. Would definitely go again and wouldn't mind sampling Sunday lunch.

We ate in the brasserie from the Sunday lunch menu and both the starters and main course were very nice, we asked for medium rare roast beef and the chef gave us exactly that, roast potatoes were good as were vegetables and yorkshire pudding. The Chocolate Marquis with raspberry sorbet I would give a miss, at first mouthful you could feel the grainy texture of the sugar, then a solid butter, followed by chocolate taste - heavy, solid and not worth the calories, although the raspberry sorbet was very nice.Service was very pleasant

The Main restaurant at the Mallory Court Hotel is excellent but quite expensive. For me this would only be used on special occasions. On the other hand the brasserie is ideal for a leisurely lunch. The menu is not extensive but I have always found something tasty and interesting. As often as not I go for the set lunch suggestion which includes a drink. The service is relaxed but efficient and the food excellent. After lunch you can take a stroll around the grounds including the kitchen garden.

We visited the brasserie for Boxing Day lunch with younger children and friends. The setting of Mallory is lovely at the best of times and on a cold winters day the setting was beautiful. We were greater by very friendly staff whom immediately served the adults with a glass of champagne and the children with fresh orange juice. It wasn't too long at all before the staff showed us to our table and made us feel very welcome. After a short wait we were tentatively greeted by the waiter who took both or drinks and food ordered. The food didn't take too long at all to come out. The goats cheese starter was excellent along with the children's smoked salmon Following this the we ordered the beef dinner which was very well presented with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and a lovely carrot and swede mix. This was accompanied with Cauliflower and broccoli cream cheese altogether a very good portion and excellently cooked. Following the main we were treated to a a delightfully light Lemon tarte with blackberries and raspberries and a spoonful of berry sorbet. All in all a lovely meal and well worth every penny.

We hadn't been to Mallory Court for several years so thought we would try The Brasserie for a family pre Christmas lunchIt was outstanding. The new (to us) building has been thoughtfully designed and beautifully furnished. We each chose different starters and mains and everyone was pleased with their choice. The taste, the portion size and the presentation could not be faulted and all three courses for around £25. We will definitely be returning.

A bit disappointing. Despite being half empty we waited about 20 mins to be seated. Then we were put right next to a noisy drunken group of women. There was a chilly draught coming through the conservatory door and I had to swap seats with my husband. Even the plant on the table looked like it was dying through frost. The menu had detailed annotations for allergies, so hence surprising that they didn't even offer one gluten free dessert.

Ambience excellent, eating outside on a hot day. Food was good and well-priced. The only downside, but a significant one, was that the service was unsophisticated. The staff were eager to please but quite a few things were wrong. We had to make a number of requests more than once - eg to place our order inside. The food then took some time to arrive. And there were other smaller things, etc the obvious misspelling of the English wine as 'Baccus'. We would probably go again, but perhaps think more carefully about it.

We were a party of 8 celebrating two 60th birthdays. We booked for a Saturday evening in August and were a little surprised that the Brasserie was almost empty - only two other tables were occupied apart from ours. We though that this would mean quick and attentive service but it seemed to have the opposite effect - perhaps it was a bad omen. The biggest problem was with the drinks orders - the staff seemed to have had no training in how to handle this and had no knowledge of what they had on offer. We wanted some 'fizz' to celebrate while we studied the menus and asked if the Ridgeview on the list was an English sparkling wine - which the waitress didn't know. Eventually she came back and said it was, so we ordered some but it took nearly 30m to turn up - apparently because they didn't have any in the brasserie and had to get some sent over from the hotel. They also had no idea how to serve drinks - I specifically asked to have a small amount poured into each glass from the first bottle so that we could all drink a toast, but she managed to pour out the whole bottle leaving one person without any! This was symptomatic of our experience all evening. I had to get up from the table twice in order to chase them up to pour drinks or take orders for the next course. There were quite a number of staff on duty but they seemed to be much more intereted in chatting to eachother and messing about with their mobile phones around the bar that worrying about their customers. It was a shame because the food was generally excellent but the kitchen team were badly let down by the front of house team. The Rioja I ordered was not what was provided (different year, not from the winerie shown on the wine list) and the bill was incorrect first time round (charged for a pudding we didn't have). This used to be a good place for a special evening out, but the staff seemed to be inexperienced, poorly trained and have some problems with understanding what we wanted (language issues perhaps). The management really need to do something about this if they don't want to loose custom.

Service was willing and attentive but poorly managed and ineffective, We waited for forty minutes before being brought our wine after three requests. The wine waiter seemed completely absorbed by a VIP (?) table in the corner of the garden. Food was indifferent to bad. My ravioli were almost uncooked, rubbery and tasteless. Fresh cod on an oriental base was edible but ordinary. Sea trout came in a giant, dry fillet on a forgettable sauce. A redeeming feature was a delicious baked chocolate pudding. It is also pleasant place although sitting outside we were aware of the busy road.

The food was reasonably good - I had a watercress panna cotta with radishes which was beautifully presented but quite tasteless and my husband had smoked salmon which he said was ok. We both had the rabbit which was stuffed and rolled and was delicious and then we had a lemon meringue pudding which was tasty. However the service was really slow We had to wait for quite a long time to have our drinks order taken and then we asked for bread with our starter (as we had not realised this is an extra cost) and it came after we had finished the starter. The starter took a long time to come - over 20 minutes - and they were not busy. We then had to wait some time to give our order for dessert and this took a while again
