Really overpriced and overrated for what was essentially a chicken kebab plus a couple of glasses of wine was £50. £11.35 for a 175ml glass of Sauvignon is a joke. No wonder the place was empty. No atmosphere and poor service. A 2 is generous.

We came on Saturday the 17th of August at 6.00pm We were a table of 16 adults and 1 child, but on the morning of the meal date, my brother fell ill and tested positive with Covid. I emailed Gabi straight away to let the restaurant know. We all arrived on time and sat down for our meal. All went smoothly, and our waiter, young blonde lad, did a great job. They had a power cut when pudding was being served, which is one of those things. The food was ok , small portions, but we ate it all. I couldn't pay the bill because they had no electricity, so I wrote down my details, and they said they would bill me. It felt very strange dining there and leaving without paying. Like I was a criminal lol. That night, they emailed me the bill and a breakdown of people and what they ate. The invoice stated 15, and I didn't realize this until I paid the bill. When you counted the meals, it was 14. I would know how many people came and celebrated my son's birthday, and it was definitely 14 people. I emailed them as soon as I realized and nothing back. They did send me a link to review the meal, but there's no refund for the invisible man. Botanist is a nice place to dine. Just check your bill for future reference.

First of all, I would like to say the staff here are 10/10. Very accommodating and friendly. The food on the other hand is awful. The vegan burger was hard like it had been microwaved for way too long. Pretty much inedible. The chicken hanging skewer was dry. Insane prices. Absolute rip off. I would not recommend.

Marnie and Dan could not have been more helpful and friendly when I and two friends called in at The Botanist. We were struggling with bus times and they both went out of their way to help with times and directions, Dan even accompanied us to the bus stop around the corner. It was a breath of fresh air meeting them, we would definitely use the Botanist if we were local. Also, the setting was superb with the quirky light fittings......very different! The wine was very good too!!

Unfortunately we had a disappointing experience at The Botanist. The front of house staff were professional and lovely, the food however wasn't great. 3 of our group ordered steaks rare and medium rare, all 3 were well done. They took the steaks back and then we waited 45 minutes for the second set of steaks to arrive, 2 were well done again and 1 was raw. By the time the second steaks were brought out, others in our group had finished their meals and everyone was fed up and wanted to leave. We weren't charged for the steaks, but it was little consolation as our evening was pretty much ruined.

Had a lovely evening meal at The Botanist in Marlow, staff were very friendly and the food was amazing. I would definitely recommend their legendary hanging kebabs, they are something special! For dessert I had the Cookie Dough and ice cream which was hmmmmm. Make sure you book in advance as it can get quite busy. 10/10 overall

We went on a Sunday. It didn’t appear busy, yet had to keep approaching staff nearer the front of the restaurant for drinks, to clear our table etc. Once staff left the table you were just forgotten about. Felt was really poor considering charge 12.5% service charge. Probably a better venue for drinks.

Very disappointing. I reserved a table for 9 people in the bar area on 12 April for a visit on 15 June. I paid a £90 deposit. I told them it was for my 50th. On arrival the high tables all had reserved signs so I assumed one was mine. When I asked if the table was ready they said mine was around the corner from the bar area and was shown to two small low tables with four chairs. I was told they could bring extra chairs. I told the girl how disappointing this was as the whole point was to be near the dance floor etc. She said they had a table of 20 coming so there was no choice. Extra chairs were brought out and we were squeezed in and in the way as we were in the walkway to get to the toilets upstairs. The cocktails and the music were great but myself and my friend, who was also 50, were left extremely disappointed, as well as embarrassed at being squeezed around the corner away from the liveliness of the bar. We'd been looking forward to this for months and it should have been made clear if they'd not been able to accommodate us comfortably.

Our experience was mixed. We had booked a table for a Saturday evening, we arrived and were seated promptly. Drink order was taken and then the food order. Our drinks and starters arrived in good time. Then we waited approx 50 mins for our main meals. We were patient and didn’t chase it up as our waitress was really busy. We were not offered more drinks during this 50 mins wait. We suspected something was wrong as our waitress who had usually smiled when passing, was avoiding our eye contact. Our main meal finally arrived with a chap who was very apologetic and explained our wait was so long as our meal was dropped as it left the kitchen by him, he said no one else wanted to deliver our food (due to embarrassment) and so he wanted to deliver our food, explain and apologise. He offered us complementary drinks as an apology. He was pleasant. Now this is no issue as accidents happen, but actually it would have been much better handled if we had been informed of this when it had happened, rather than avoided by our waitress and a manager lady. Our starters were delicious, our mains were only ok and the chips were not nice, we both left almost our whole portions. I probably would not return. The atmosphere and decor was lovely. Just wish our delay was better explained.

We came here for lunch today and the location, decor, food and staff were all really great. The food was some of the tastiest and well presented food we’ve ever had. We will be back in Marlow soon and the botanist will definitely be high on the list of places we will be back to first. Cannot recommend this enough.

Went here for cocktail making during the day. Had one cocktail to start and then got to make two in a competition type style which made it more fun. Was a great 2hrs spent, you don't get to choose the cocktails you make which is a shame as I found them too sweet but is fun. Inside is a great vibe and would definitely recommend coming with friends.

Grace was a superstar, highly recommended! I recently dined at The Botanist in Marlow and had a fantastic experience, thanks to our waitress, Grace. Although it was only her first week, she provided outstanding service, recommending delicious options and catering to all our needs. What stood out most was her genuine enthusiasm and attention to detail. She checked in on us regularly to ensure everything was perfect and was quick to accommodate any requests we had. It's rare to find such a combination of warmth and efficiency, especially from someone just starting out. Kudos to The Botanist for having such a fantastic team member. Highly recommended!

We were treated out for my husband's 60th birthday present and we were all looking forward to it as the reviews were fairly good. It was last Saturday so being noisy was expected. Food was good and our waitress was friendly and efficient. However, what let our experience down was a different waitress coming over and reminding us in no certain terms we had to vacate the table in the next 30 mins which we were aware of and had finished dinner anyway just finishing the last of our drinks. It was just rude and not the way you want the evening to end. It wasn't what she said it was her delivery.Some customer training would not go amiss!

Great atmosphere. Decor is a bit aged and tired now and it has a terrible gluten free menu but otherwise good. Please up your game on the gluten free side. Having people scan a qr code and having very little options isn't an experience coeliacs (who may I remind you don't choose to have this condition) want to endure.

We had a lovely meal, and were enjoying my daughter’s 21st Birthday meal with family. Until we got ushered from our table 30 mins early to make room for another party. Family members were left without seats until we demanded some. The waitress we had was lovely, but the manager was rude and unhelpful. Would have loved to have gone back again, but after the way we were treated towards then end of the night, I doubt we would go back again! Very disappointed

Birthday celebration for my 2 children. Great atmosphere in the restaurant with the live singer but very noisy from the jam packed bar area. Lighting a little dark for my "old eyes" but pretty decor. Food amazing, all our dishes were very tasty. Disappointed that my request for a birthday candle in the puddings as I pre-requested didn't happen :( Issue with communication due to the noise around choosing the correct wine. Expected te £25 bottle i pointed to on the menu but realised from the bill later we had drunk the £40 bottle! So a very expensive night.

It was great, a family of 6, 3 adults 3 children, the food was top notch. But I guess one of your staff members does not understand that if you are waiting for the disabled toilet your possibly disabled even though you don't look disabled it's called a hidden disability..I don't need someone shouting at me the toilets are up stairs sir, across the bar, also my partner drinks zero zero beer for a reason. A very good reason, so when asking for another they bought a pint off beer with with alcohol. I never made a scene, but was so angry, but I will be back, as I said the foot was excellent, thank you.

Went for Valentines dinner 14/02/24, expected regular valentines shenanigans as it’s a busy holiday. We’ve been previously for a 17th birthday in 2023 which we had issues with staff. We came back for Valentines hoping that service had improved. 24/02 Unfortunately, we were forgotten about on multiple occasions where we had to chase our drinks order at least 3 times, by this point we had already received and finished our starters by the time the drinks had finally arrived, it was two of the set menu strawberry elderflower cocktails. Sadly, even with the delay and chasing they arrived without the water we asked for as well. We spoke to the host and two other waiters about our drinks, the host was quite cold and inattentive. Later in the evening, we ordered a second glass of wine that never arrived and we had to request be removed from the bill. We ordered the Valentines set menu sharing kebab, the prawns were cold and the lamb was chewy. There was no check backs and we struggled to speak to a waiter as no one would interact or look at us. So we were not able to share our feedback at the time. We ordered a side portion of calamari which was good, and some buffalo fries that were nice. Our mains were cleared by the host and I asked if dessert would come straight out or if our waiter would speak to us first about our choice of dessert. She claimed he would come over but after 20 minutes of no one speaking to us and still unable to get someone’s attention I had to directly wave someone over to ask if we could chase it up. Luckily dessert was decent, can’t really do a bad cookie dough! Table placement was quite squished to the side as on a few occasions staff were dragging bins out the door behind our chairs. Although the unfortunate show of an evening, Rory was very apologetic for our experience and was helpful to remove the missing items from the bill. Getting the bill was also a long wait, which with being Valentines was expected and we were expecting delays. But after the lack of acknowledgment from staff and painful waiting times we were done and felt unsatisfied with the evening. Given it put a damper moment on the special night. Hopefully, others didn’t have the same experience.

We have been here multiple times and it's one of our favourite restaurants and as it was my wife's birthday she chose to come here and normally we can't find fault, unfortunately this time we went we when it was relatively quiet and there plenty of free tables, we were sat right next a large table which looked like it was expecting a large party and sure enough just after we started our meal the large party turned up literally right next to us, throughout the meal they continually got up and down and it got a point wherea a large number of them they were standing right behind my wife's chair not a care in the world or an ounce of respect for us, in the end I had to ask to move to another table for our dessert as we couldnt hear each other so unfortunately what should of been a quite romantic meal ended up being disappointing experience amongst a noisy crowd of people, I just don't understand why we were seated there when there were many more suitable options and it was obviously going to be noisy, exceptionally poor I'm afraid.

While we appreciate it was Mother’s Day and was going to busy , our table was booked for 630pm We had no one come over to us until we asked 7.10pm then the lady came back as the iPad didn’t save the order We eventually got our drinks at 7.35 nearly a hour of been sat down Food arrived and wasn’t the normal standard you would expect for the price you pay lamb kebabs were over cooked The chicken was dry , been to the botanist in reading before and the service and food was much better . We then got given dessert menu at 8.05 someone came back at 8.25 to ask if we wanted to order dessert at this point the kids were tired and the meal experience for us on Mother’s Day was ruined we just wanted to leave

First time at the Botanist as we wanted somewhere more 'premium' as a treat. Waiting staff were incredibly attentive and checked in on us numerous times, but felt that our disappointment was probably a regular occurrence? The prawns for the starter were cold and did'nt hold any flavour... despite being one of the most expensive starters on the menu. My chicken, noodle salad for main was a HUGE disappointment. I had researched the meal before I ordered it. Rice noodles weren't small and my salad seemed to be missing all the main ingredients like sugar snap peas and peppers?! Partners fries were over cooked and just oily. We gave feedback and were expecting maybe a drink or desert as an apology, but nothing offered. We then received the bill and were annoyed by the automatic service charge. We did choose to pay the service charge as the waitress had been very good. Eventually a manager allowed a 20% discount off our bill. Prior to us leaving, the waitress did comment that the food was not up to their usual standards.

I came here last year and it was exceptional... I came back this year for mother's day and it was beyond tragic - shambolic to say the least. Not sure if there have been cut backs, but if so, this is highly evidenced in your food quality and the lack of service. My family and I arrived for my mothers day booking at 6pm and we were seated in a corner hidden away from everyone (sounds nice, until you realise it was just some unused corner where they've whacked a table and a bench). This area used to have booths and they had been ripped out, which you could see on the wallpaper - definitely need to get the decorators in, I'm sure you lot have some money to spare for that. The table had two chairs and a really long bench which was longer than the entire table, further adding to the fact that these were just plonked here. I sat on the bench as I knew it would be uncomfortable for anyone else to sit here. It took 20 minutes to get served by the waitress. I assume she forgot about us because we were shoved in a corner. I was very close to getting my things and leaving due to the lack of service. I could see other waiters/waitresses attending tables quickly, just not ours... why was this? After 20 minutes, we were served and we thought it was best to do the whole order otherwise we feared no one else would come back and we'd be left there to die... we probably could have died there, no one would have bloody noticed. Drinks took a long time to come... however they were the only nice part of the meal. Another server bought over my son's burger and before I could ask for ketchup, he disappeared. He should have asked my son if he wanted condiments - he's a child, not a dog, he would have answered. Trying to get anyone's attention was like trying to get blood out of a stone. No one looked our way. I ordered the roast chicken, it was ok - mediocre and bland. Quite dry as well and nearly choked, so that was a nice touch. My partner ordered the lamb and i've never seen lamb look so burnt and overcooked in all my life. It looked like an old leather boot on his plate. Most of it was bone. He tried to call someone over and no one looked our way. No one checked on us either. He ate the food (mostly the side dishes) as he was so hungry and was annoyed with the service. Safe to say we wanted to eat up and get out. I wanted to leave, but he suggested trying the dessert, so I did and it was gross. The cookie dough dessert was the most vile thing I tasted. It was burnt tasting and just looked like they bought things from tesco and heated it up, nothing amazing about it. My son only liked part of his dessert as well, which is a surprise as he usually demolishes it. You need to upgrade your menu, especially the dessert menu, it's all cookie dough. There's nothing else aside from this... pizza hut does better cookie dough than this. Would it kill the establishment to whip out a bit of cake or meringue?! I regret allowing my partner to pay the included service charge. Not being funny, but we didn't get any service at all. It seems like the staff are everywhere, they don't have allocated sections. They're confused and all I could see were waiters/waitresses apologising to people - doesn't look good. Management should review this immediately. There weren't any check backs to our table at all and no eye contact from staff, so it seems they wanted to avoid being asked for anything. The smell coming from this place is bad as well. The front smelt like cigarettes and wee. That needs sorting. I must say, my partner became extremely ill from the lamb dish, I think this food must have been off. It's safe to say that this practically FOAMED out of him... and he's had diarrhoea. Not sure how long you've had that lamb sitting there, but if it's foaming out of a human upon leaving the body, there's a problem (enjoy the humour here people, my partner isn't laughing though). We will not be back here again. It's gone downhill badly. Last year I was impressed. This year, I am not. I know there's a cost of living crisis affecting businesses, but if we're spending our hard earned money dining out as a treat, it shouldn't be like this, especially not on a day like mother's day. This whole restaurant is screaming "WE'RE IN A CRISIS HELP US". Sort it out.

I went to this place last night with my friend, on account of their menu which on the face of it looked very appealing. However, as we shall learn, never judge a book by its cover. The staff here were very polite and welcoming, however, I did clearly ask (very nicely I should point out) for my Coke to be brought out with my starter - I'm not sure what part of this wasn't clear, but she brought me my Coke long before the starter turned up. I had the king prawns, which by my estimations were far from "king" sized. But I will say they DID de-vein them which was a nice touch. They were swimming in a watery base - which wasn't really suitable for the nice, but hard bread I was given with them. My main course was their salt and pepper pork belly. This arrived dry, hard and not very edible at all. I was asked how my meal was, and so I politely told them. They kindly offered me a fresh one, so I accepted this. The waitress went away, but then came back to inform me that a fresh one would just be the same as it due to the length of time it needs to be cooked. Trust me I've had plenty of pork belly before now and it does NOT need to be cooked until it's dried out and hard. Just because your chef can't cook pork belly properly, doesn't mean I have to accept that fob off. I settled for the lamb kofta instead, which was equally disappointing, but at least no excuses came for overcooking it. For pudding I had cookie dough, which although tiny was at least pleasant. Our bill was just over £89, which WAS NOT in any way justified. A forced "Service" charge of £9.97 was put on the bill, which considering that when the waitress brought my replacement dish, she didn't also bring back another plate to eat it off of, was certainly not justified (I've been a waiter in the past - to bring a plate to eat food off of is kind of a basic, in my view). Do not get me wrong, if food is outstanding, or just really nice, I do not have an issue with a bill of £89 for just 2 people and 3 courses. But when all you get is a kebab on a fancy hanger thing, and a SMALL bowl of average chips (the menu bizarrely calls these "properly seasoned chips" - which is interesting because they were not seasoned with anything whatsoever). When asked "would you like any sauces with that", the ONLY 2 choices were ketchup or mayonnaise. This is the selection level of a greasy spoon cafe, not somewhere that's going to charge you over £89 for just 2 people. I think basically what you're paying for here is the pretentious and wholly unnecessary presentation, the hanging kebabs. How about just put them on a plate and knock £20 off?

There were elements that were great, but also elements that let it down :( the staff at first were lovely, though it started to feel like very rushed service, when our food came out we weren’t asked by our food runner if we wanted any sauces, any more drinks or just generally if we had anything, not even an “enjoy your food” just basic customer service qualities. Our food came out really quick, almost too quick that it was slightly questionable, two minutes, if that, after we had ordered, we were just slightly puzzled at how quick it came out! It wasn’t spectacular food, nothing you couldn’t get anywhere else, and for the price you would think it would maybe be slightly better. Despite this we do have to mention that the waitress Sienna was fabulous, very attentive, seemed to really care and was just overall really lovely. I think if she had been our waitress the entire time we wouldn’t have had an issue with the service. She needs credit for her work and hope this doesn’t go unnoticed by the management team!

Such a shame! Booked my first Botanist experience during my 50th birthday week, as we were in Marlow for the family get together bit, and met friends there. Sadly our food all arrived to the table cold so we had to send it back to be re cooked fresh. I was asked if I wanted it reheated but I politely asked for my rice to not be reheated. Food hygiene basics with rice. The bar manager did shout me the cocktail I ordered later but I was disappointed that I remember the cold food over the lovely cocktail.

Great atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. We ate in the restaurant, our starter was fantastic. Main course was okay, the chips were lovely. Wine was very nice. They had live music in the bar which was good but it went through the speakers in the restaurant which was too loud to be honest and I couldn't hear the person opposite me. Just need to be turned down a bit. Service was generally good, had to ask twice for water and ketchup. Raffy our drinks server was very good and quick. I think we would go back as it was a lovely place to eat, just a few small things could have made it extra special. I would recommend to others

First time I even went thanks to a friend inviting me 10/02/24 and the service from the general manager was appalling! Not only did she mess our reservation up but she also rushed us towards the end! Her attitude was shocking and you would think we were not paying customers. Shout to the lovely staff members who were apologetic on their general managers behalf. Definitely wont be coming back again!!

Visited the Botanist for the 2nd time yesterday 10th Feb. I want to start by saying the attitude of the manager on duty was absolutely disgusting. The other members of staff were lovely and accommodating It is such a shame there is a member of management with clear discriminatory behaviour. I invited 2 friends along who are not from the area to experience something outside of London and I felt embarrassed to say the least. First, on arrival the manager tried to place us at the bar despite me booking a table. Then Whilst we were waiting for our dessert the manager decided to come over to let us know someone will need our table in 10 minutes, the delay in us receiving our dessert would in fact be with the kitchen and not the customer I would have thought. The customer service has always been outstanding here but this individual will definitely bring this establishment down. What an amazing night we had! I took my parents and children for my daughter’s 17th Birthday last weekend. The food was amazing as usual, service great despite being very busy. My son struggles with certain foods due to sensory issues and no request to the staff was too much. More importantly I want to mention Dan, the Manager, who was just awesome and spoke to myself and my elderly Dad about the hanging skewers. A nicely laid out restaurant area at the back with good wheelchair access and loo. Food for 8 was generally okay if not overly exciting. The hanging kebabs were very good. But the 2 whole baked Camembert (£16each) in sour dough starters had almost no actual cheese in them. They had filled the centres with onion marmalade and put a thin layer of cheese around the inside. Definitely not a whole Camembert - probably not even between the 2. They had probably run out of cheese and did not want to take yet another item off the menu due to their low post New Years supply levels. Didn’t spoil our final Canadian family gathering by complaining then and there. Doing that and not spoiling the evening is easier said than done hence this review. We’d be cautious about going again

Booked for festive lunch as we did 2 years ago but appalled at the slow service - had to ask for tap water 5 times in 2 hours, messed up at least one order, subpar food quality (gravy on turkey kebab was too thick and did not flow down the kebab like it did previously), no allowance for a customer who wanted neither an alcohol beverage or a fizzy drink for her choice of drink (festive menu should be more inclusive). On top of all of this, they tried to charge us more on the day than the booking - thank goodness I had saved my email which showed what the breakdown should have been. Will not dine here again

Everything ok, food was good and service was good. Our booking was 6.30 till 9pm. Was not happy to be told we had to be off our table by 8.30 as it was booked to another party! To be told to either drink up or move to the bar area after spending alot of money with you at aroind 8.15pm was not acceptable. We were then told again that we had to be off our table by 8.30!! I was then given the bill without asking and felt we were being rushed out again. When i booked with you i paid £100 deposit that WASN'T taken off the final bill, which i ha d to ask to be taken off. Overall the food and service was good, but to be rushed out after eating and drinking for 2 hours wasn't really acceptable.

Myself and 2 friends came on the 29th December to have some lunch and a catch up in Marlow. My friend had asked for some water for the table . We waited half an hour for that so I had to ask again and eventually got some. It really wasn’t that busy? A lady took our order who gave us the water and everything was fine. The table next to us on the right were a family. For what ever reason their food kept coming to our table every time they ordered something and it was getting a bit annoying and I think they were getting annoyed too. The servers didn’t apologise when mixing up the tables either nor did they say what the food/drink was. They just plonked it down on our table and tried to get away as quick as they could and of course we said something. Overall, the food was delicious, was very impressed. The service, really not so sure….

Starting with the positives: Our waitress was very kind & professional throughout. We were grateful for our table placement, we had plenty of room for our pram. Negatives: Leading up to our booking, two emails requesting to alter our pre-order due to a change in dietary requirements were never responded to, or actioned. Our meal was frequently interrupted by waiters with food or drinks for other tables. One main arrived after everyone else had finished eating. When we complained, the manager immediately tried to pass the blame by saying we hadn’t pre-ordered it. We know this is untrue - we have email confirmation of the pre-order & our waitress had already informed us that the main would be slightly delayed due to a kitchen issue. The bill was nearly £20 over what it should have been. When a revised bill was bought back to us, no changes had been made. No staff were around so we went up to speak with the manager. Again, she immediately blamed us & said it was because we asked another waiter for the bill. We had not & were defeated by this point so sat back down. We finally paid 40 minutes after receiving the first bill.

We have visited Botanist on couple of occasions. Normally the food is very good. This time however we came on the 26th for our Xmas lunch which we booked online several weeks in advance. 1. The restaurant no longer offered Xmas menu even though that’s what was advertised on the website. (We were offered to have some of the options from the Xmas menu but not many options were available) 2. The pigs in blankets arrived fried and stuck together as if they were frozen like that and then reheated. Horrible 3. The green salad also consisted of overcooked broccoli that were falling apart but swimming on a paddle of oil. 4. Sea bass was flavourless and also swimming in soup of oil. Horrible. Luckily burgers we ordered were very good and all in all we had not too dreadful experience. The staff were helpful and responsive. However we waited for 30 for our food white the restaurant was not even half full. I’m not sure what happened there since usually this place is a great choose for Sunday roast. I’m not sure if we would be coming back after this experience.
