The Boshaw Trout in Kirklees

We had an amazing Sunday roast here, the portions were big and excellent value. The meat was cooked to perfection. However, even more impressive is that as a celiac I could have it completely gluten free with homemade Yorkshire puddings!!! I’ve never had that anywhere else. The service was really good, staff friendly and the views are stunning. Can’t recommend enough

Went in a couple of years ago for food. Was ok is all I remember but this time, last Sunday...two years on, the food was, I can only say astounding, perfect, a taste sensation!!! My partner had fish n chips which was so nice and she commented that the home made tartare sauce was simply to die for. I had the beef steak n ale pie...wow!!! So nice, so tasty. The chips n mushy peas were perfect and the homemade beef gravy literally gave me a taste bud explosion. So dramatic I hear you say but go and experience their beautiful food and you'll see what I mean.

Lovely place, food is lovely, good friendly service, great value for money! We will definitely visit again on our way over to visit family & friends!

Had a lovely stay whilst visiting for a gig at the Picturedrome. The room was small but then we went for the cheapest. It was exceptionally clean, lovely decor. Everything you needed eg hairdryer etc. I expect the view on a summers evening from the window would be lovely. It was also really warm (easy to adjust if needed). We ate in the pub for tea and breakfast and both were great. It was easy to get a taxi into Holmfirth. Staff really friendly and helpful. Would recommend.

The Bowshaw Trout offered good value rooms, we stayed in the basic double room and whilst we had everything in the room it was so small that it shouldn't really be categorised as a double room. The bed was pushed against the wall and so you could only get out of the bed by clamouring over the other person. Everything was clean and the breakfast was small but nice. Staff were lovely and a credit to the place.

Really nice inn located in the countryside of Holmfirth, Hade Egde. Rooms clean and they have nice, traditional, english breakfast. Enjoyed breakfast in very calm surroundings with qa view over the countryside and some horses grassing peacefully ringt outside the window. Lots of different beer in the pub, also from the local Nook brewery. Enjoyed local brewed stout next to the lit wood stove. Really nice staff, made us feel welcome the moment we entered the door! Will be back.

Stayed here for one night as we were attending a concert in local Holmfirth. On arrival we were given a warm welcome by the lady checking us in and we were shown to our room. The room was large, refurbished and furnished to a high standard, clean and tidy. The en-suite was lovely, shower powerful and with plenty of hot water, fluffy towels and toiletries provided. The bed was comfortable and a good nights sleep was had. The views from our room were amazing! We ate here and had a few drinks in the bar before heading off to our concert. The food was delicious, well presented with ample sized portions. A great selection of drinks on offer and the wine was lovely. All the staff were friendly, jolly, helpful, courteous and smartly dressed. A big shout out to Issi and Ben and to pass on our compliments to the chef. Breakfast was lovely, great selection and served in the conservatory which had amazing views also. All sorts of artwork some framed by local artists were in the pub area and for sale, all extremely well priced. We bought two pictures one of which was given as a present and the recipient delighted with this. We can highly recommend staying here or just visiting for a bite to eat and a few drinks. We look forward to a return visit here one day especially if we book anymore concerts in Holmfirth.

Visited on a Tuesday evening and it was quiet so quickly seated and served. Excellent hummus sharing starter and very good mains. Friendly staff. We will be back to try the new menu.

The 3/4 bed was crushed against a wall no room whatsoever for two people. Bed was small uncomfortable. Room noise really bad could hear everything. Only way out for an early start was down a fire escape not hood in the dark with heals on. Staff nice but would never stay again

We called in for a drink on a busy afternoon and decided to sample some food. We chose the meat sharing platter for £14.00. When it came it was nicely presented however, we did feel there could have been a tad more bread, meat and cheese on it and less salad. Maybe a balsamic pot instead. There was however plenty of humous on it which was home made and really nice! We were disappointed there wasn’t any olives on it either,so, the following day we checked your menu and it stated the platter should have come with olives. You were very busy and we should have checked the menu there and then so our fault as much as yours. Everything else was spot on! Lovely friendly attentive staff and a very quirky cosy pub in a lovely location!

Hi. We were a group from Sweden who greeted our English friends from Penistone. We ate and drank and everyone, without exception, was completely lyrical about the food, which was incredibly good and well prepared. All staff have our highest rating. pleasant, knowledgeable and unbelievably service-infected. Two of us are soon on our way back again on 13/9, uAgneta and Torbjörn. I am sure they will come again. Torbjörn has talked so much about the fallow deer he ate. The best meat he had ever eaten. Have a nice time. Hug. Kenneth

This was my first time going to the Boshaw Trout, and wow I was extremely impressed. The views were beautiful, and the food was even better. I highly recommend the honey parsnip soup, best roast parsnip soup of my life, but then again I’ve only had it once. The staff were lovely and very welcoming. I did order a lemonade and it tasted like soda water, however the fantastic staff were apologetic, and offered to make me a new one. The only one thing I could say which is negative is the beer garden grass needs a trim, but if that’s the only negative you are doing something right. Will definitely be back again soon.

Great location, very nice pub and staff, fantastic views, I drove over from the south of Sheffield 20 miles only to be disapointed by certain aspects of the food. very small portions of very thin slices of lamb 3 in total , Extremly tough beef 2 slice small, And its the first time we have been served a Sunday dinner without any roast potatoes, Exelent Yorkshire pudding though, They do have some good real ales that was a bonus, I would love to return but proberly not.

Terrible service. My wife's meal came out 15 minutes before mine. When my meal finally did show up, it wasn’t what I ordered. When I asked for a partial refund due to my dissatisfaction,I was told I had to send an email to the manager l, who accepted no responsibility at all and refused to give any refund. A lovely, welcoming place. I'd struggeld to find accommodation nearby and being on a bike had little choice - the Nook phoned through and late in the day found me a room here, which had everything I needed. I had a delicious, well-priced evening meal and an outstanding breakfast, all at a reasonable price. I'll definitely be back.

Amazing place. Beautiful setting. Stayed one night and couldn't have asked for anything more. Had breakfast which was great and came back for Sunday lunch which was out of this world. The staff are brilliant, incredibly friendly and can't do enough for you. Rooms are great. Very clean and comfortable. A very short (£5) taxi ride to Holmfirth centre. Lovely walks close by too. I had a one night stay in the deluxe double room with en-suite bathroom. It was super clean, comfortable, warm and spacious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious with generous portions. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

From the first warm welcome to the last good bye, the staff, food, drink and atmosphere was most excellent. Stayed for one night in a really comfortable and cosy room. Me and my daughter visited with our dogs as it was on walking distance from where we were staying. Great place. Really good food. Gluten free options and vegetarian options. Very friendly staff and accomadating of our dogs. Will visit again before going home .

Our friends picked this B&B for us to meet up for the weekend, do was unsure what to expect. We stayed 2 nights and from arrival to leaving couldn't fault anything. We had Sunday lunch on our 2nd evening having previously eaten elsewhere the day before, the food was lovely and excellent value for money, wished we had eaten here on our first night. Credit to the team who were all friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The views from the bedrooms/conservatory and beer garden were stunning. Looking forward to returning in the future.

As we were staying here overnight we decided to eat there too. Lovely staff, nothing a problem at all. Our starters came quickly and were superb. Our mains did take a little while, they were very busy, but nothing that caused us to not enjoy our meal. The fish and chips were brilliant.....according to my other half! I ordered the steak pie, the filing chips and mushy ease and gravy where all delicious, the bottom pastry on the i.e was delicious too, but the top was that hard I couldn't eat it, but it didn't take away from the filling which is the most important. Overall we loved it, and will definitely eat there again.

Very rare to find such an enthusiastic team of staff! Lisa, Olivia and Mitchell were so welcoming and friendly and could not have been more helpful. We stayed here for a weekend with friends and found the rooms very clean and the beds very comfortable. The pub has a great atmosphere and the food was delicious. We ate here both nights! I can highly recommend the Barnsley chop. Only five minutes from town so a great location. We have already booked a return visit.

Excellent quality food, just the portion size for mains and desserts were a little underwhelming. Would definitely return but would have to order xtra veg begrudgingly based on the prices.

When we arrived we were shown to our table that was booked through the website. I'd mentioned on the booking there was one vegetarian, so a vegetarian / vegan menu was provided. Table service was excellent, as was the food. Good size portions and good value for money. I'd definitely recommend it.

We had a fantastic Sunday roast dinner one lamb and one beef. Both delicious! Amazing Yorkshire puddings, amazing gravy & tasty brownie for pudding. A real treat and nearby a reservoir for a walk. Lovely staff and dog friendly! We booked, but you wouldn’t necessarily need to do so, although some days can be quite busy. We sat in the conservatory which had amazing views! We will definitely be returning. Thanks for a lovely experience. XX

We’ve eaten at The Boshaw a few times, it came as a recommendation to us and we have enjoyed it every time but tonight was so different. Unfortunately this time we took friends with us who haven’t been before, we thought safe in the knowledge we’d receive great service and food. Can’t fault the polite young staff who were very attentive , but the waiting time was beyond what you’d expect for home cooked food ( which were happy to wait longer for), the drinks also took a while to arrive! The gents ordered pie , which looked pretty appetising and home made, although not a great value portion size, but the real disappointment was the harissa lamb flatbread. Couldn’t get a knife through the overdone flatbread which was dry . Again a pretty poor portion size too with minimal salad and some dry fries. Puddings we thought couldn’t be overcooked… sticky toffee was good, but two of us chose jam roly poly and custard. Another small potion but I never thought I’d eat jam roly poly with a crust you couldn’t cut through! It tasted as though it had been reheated a few times in a microwave, very dry 😢. The couple on the table next to us complained their food took too long to arrive and when it did they sent half of it back and asked to cancel the order as it didn’t taste nice. After visiting the loos before leaving it was clear there were quite a few leftovers on other diners plates too. I’m just so disappointed after having visited the pub a few times in the last 2-3 years and not having had any complaints at all. What’s changed?

Can’t fault this place…amazing views, great service and the food was divine. I came for a Sunday roast and ordered the beef…it came just how I like it - not pink and melted in the mouth. Simply divine. The rest of it was a delight - all home-cooked and freshly prepared. I had the cheeseboard for afters and it was big enough to two-three people. Never thought I’d say this, but maybe they should reduce the portion for some profit! Maybe I’m just used to big prices small portions in city centre places. I saw a review from someone complaining about kids running the place - they might be young, but nothing was too much trouble for them. And most of them could ask questions and have a conversation. My glass was never empty for too long. I came alone and felt very well looked after - an overall unexpectedly incredible dining experience, and I’d probably come back to the area to just to eat here.

First time visiting this venue we found the food was amazing and the staff were great very helpful and couldn't do enough for us we coming up again soon from Kent can't wait see you soon guys and thanks again

Fantastic gluten free burger for my wife and (non gluten free) fish and chips for me. Outstanding food, great service (Mitch and Nat), lovely atmosphere. Staff are attentive and friendly. Couldn’t ask for more, especially when the whole pub sang Happy Birthday to my wife (it was her Birthday!) arrived early enough for a couple of pints in Happy Hour too.

I am coeliac and dairy intolerant, this restaurant not only had a great menu but felt extremely looked after. The staff went over and above with service. We sat in the conservatory overlooking the reservoir and sat in sunshine in February what a great view. Thank you

Good food made in house, the service is friendly and atmosphere is relaxed, great to stop in for a drink whilst out walking, very dog friendly which is great, I've been for lunch and dinner, well worth a visit, I'm really looking forward to booking in for a night's stay.

Food very bland and uninspiring service was ok but the place is run by kids A bit drab inside also like a tap room rather than a welcoming warm restaurant The food though was the biggest disappointment and the menu choice was very limited The Hake risotto was expensive and tasteless, a tiny piece of fish on a pesto risotto which was tasteless Wouldn’t go back

Can highly recommend the Boshaw Trout. We have been several times now with groups of friends and the last time on Xmas Eve with extended family. The Sunday lunch is always superb, great variety of vegetables all cooked really well, and as a vegetarian the veggie Sunday lunch with veggie sausages is lovely! Our party of 10 were all impressed with the Christmas lunch too. The atmosphere is great, the staff are really friendly and efficient and communication for booking etc is really good. The service is exceptional - quick and nothing is too much trouble. The location is also great with fantastic views. Dogs are welcome. We have done a few local walks with friends, finishing with a meal at the pub. My husband says the beer is great too! Great value considering the standard and quality of the food. We will be back!

Great food, excellent service. Nice atmosphere with log burner and very attentive staff. We all had the roast beef Sunday lunch which came with an assortment of lovely veg and a huge Yorkshire pud.

After much deliberation about where to go, we called at The Boshaw Trout for lunch midweek - and we were so glad we did! We ordered a Cheese burger with fries and the Harissa lamb flatbread with handcut chips (I upgraded to handcut chips from fries because I just can't resist a proper chip!). Both were good sized portions, well presented and tasted absolutely delicious! They were served by lovely, polite and friendly staff and the pub atmosphere was warm and cosy on a cold day. In all, it was a lovely experience and we'll definitely be making this a favourite.

Had dirty fries, normally a nice big bowl and tasty this time crammed in to tiny bowl about 1/3 or normal portion, won’t have again

What a great find.Honestly the staff are wonderful and anything we required was of no trouble. The menu offers great choice of food and most is Gluton free. We both had the fish and chips and the fish was perfect and fell apart easily. I did struggle what to order from the menu as so much choice.They are pet friendly which is great as there are a lot of walks around that area, so what more could you, Great Walk then relax in lovely pub with hot food and a nice ale.We will without return.
