After having 2 bad experiences with food over the last 12 months, I heard there were new owners ,so I gave it a go. I wasn't disappointed. I only had a starter garlic mushrooms and a portion of chips,they were very tasty, I will definitely be going back when the full menu is up and running

Home made food is back, we had steak pie with chunky chips and peas chunky pieces of meat, 1 of us had lasagna it was very nice It was very nice

Will not be going again used to be a great place to eat the food the was terrible and the attitude of the women who served left a lot to be desired

We booked a room for 2 days. Room itself isn't bad, but the bathroom is absolutely disgusting. Water is constantly dripping from the showerhead and the pipes make strange noises at night. We asked a refund for 1 day (we moved out around 2pm, right after we came back from work) and we were told we will receive it, unfortunately on the second day I received a message that refund is not an option due to late check out.

All the staff was nice and the food was very delicious. I would recommend coming here for a meal.

Haven't eaten here in years until a couple of weeks back. Enjoyed a nice (individual) steak and ale pie with chips and peas. Pie was piping hot and overall a good portion size. A varied menu with something for everyone. Great price too, I'm l99kokg forward to my next return.

Just full of drunks clogging up the bar. Staff rude and poor. We tried the food before but not much advertised was available and was very basic.

I called.with my friend for a drink on Saturday evening. The two people who were working behind the bar were friendly, respectful, and attentive. We will definitely be back when we have our next catch up. Thank you. X

Visited after soft play, staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was tasty and fresh, very reasonably priced. Accommodated my son's dairy allergy with no issue. For a last minute 'lets go here for lunch' very impressed, would return.

Give it a miss. Tried to visit with family. The pub is a nice clean tidy pub on a busy road. The menu is limited maybe 10 main choice an our visit 4 out of 5 choices were not available. Got the impression they were more bothered about a Christmas booking so decided to give it a miss. No one seemed too bothered about us leaving.

Me and my partner come in Saturday evening for a meal which I can’t fault the food. I just wasn’t happy when I got in taxis and a staff member came out after us saying we didn’t pay the bill but we paid the bill before we left. The incident definitely put me off coming back again

Unfortunately my last visit was very disappointing. The restaurant was cold, the service incredibly slow even though it wasn't busy. I asked for sauces and it didn't arrive til I was half way through my meal. Veg was almost raw and custard luke warm I won't be going back

Can’t comment on eating here as we went into the town, but stayed in a lovely room for one night. Liked that you can park here too. Staff were lovely and helpful.

Probably only pub in Huddersfield i havent been in previously..really lovely atmosphere...efficent staff and cosy decor.

Had an unprompted visit to this pub for Sunday lunch with a table of 6, today. Nice decor, warm amd cosey. Great service. The kids had kids menu, which had good variety and was great value. Adults had a roast, which was a generous portion with four veg, and optional cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets, with a choice of three meats too. Highly recommended.

The lady behind the bar seemed a little skittish and nervous. She kept saying that she was “on her own” so there was a delay to her service. The pub was not that busy so this seemed like an excuse?? The food was average, overpriced for what it was. We were waiting for our drinks for 20+ minutes. Will not be going back.

This is not a pub. Definitely not a Local. More of a Gastro pub. No rapport or atmosphere. Try Weatherspoons. Beer flat and cloudy.

Arrived on time for Mothers Day meal , a group of 12. Still waiting after over an hour, when we queried it, told we had to wait for other diners to finish, due to kitchen space, when asked why book in for times then, just got an apathetic look , they seem to have plenty of time for cigarette breaks. No apologies or anything. The food wasn't even worth the wait. Booked in for 15.45 znd finally left at at 6.30pm . With no deserts. Absolute piss take.

Poor tasteless food, not homemade like the old owners, complained staff didn't do anything about it, same staff but they don't seem the happy friendly staff that they were, we weren't the only one complaining. Going from eating there most Friday to never going again

Less than average food, chunky chips that were slivers of potato, not a chunky insite. Rude staff who felt the need to over charge for drinks and explain what a chunky chip was. Extremely disappointed. I've eaten in this pub for over 20years, but never will again

Came here with my gf and her family, always walked past and never been into this really nice cozy pub. Great choice of drinks and food. All our plates were completely empty afterwards it was all so good ! Service was very pleasant and welcoming, we had a young girl that was very polite serving us. Definitely coming back.

A traditional pub serving good home cooked meals. The service is excellent, but book early if you want a Sunday lunch. Very reasonably priced meals and small portions are available. Highly recommended for either lunch with the ladies or an evening meal with family.

I met 2 friends for a Christmas meal on 4 December.2 of us had starter, main and pudding and our friend a main and pudding.All meals were served hot by very pleasant staff. Lovely good quality food. We all enjoyed the meal very much.

Nothing pretentious about this place, just fab locally cooked food and very friendly staff. We both had the small steak pie with chips and gravy...at £6.50 you can’t beat it ! Home made pastry just like my wife’s mother used to make.We used to have a textile mill opposite the pub which is now a CoOp supermarket (Stanley Mills) until it went bust in the early 60s and my Dad always used to call in at The Croppers for a pint after work but even though he’s been dead 30 years we still call going to the pub, ‘going for a cropper’

Been for our evening meal there. Had the roast beef dinner. It was cooked to perfection.I don't write reviews very often but feel that the Croppers deserves a very good one. Would like to make a special mention of our waitress Eve. She is delightful and a credit to the business.

Visited with our Grandson and received a warm welcome. The drinks choice was good and the food was really good wholesome fare. Highly recommended!

As I have occasionally to visit Huddersfield for work.It's not five star, but I have really enjoyed my stays.The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff are very friendly and the food is excellent. This applies to both the breakfast and the bar meals. Good traditional pub grub. It's also cheap.I like it, and I will be back.

Still great food at this pub since it was taken over. With the added bonus of a nice refurbishment. Very pleasant & accommodating staff. Nice seating area to the back of the pub .would highly recommend a visit .

What a relief to find that an old haunt has maintained such excellent standards. Not been in for a while but where better to have a catch up with old friends. So glad the new owners had the sense to keep the chefs on...as ever, well done Neil for an excellent meal

We tried the Croppers Arms after hearing such good reviews and the fact it was under new management and had had a refurbishment. I must say we were not disappointed the food and ambiance was great. Love the makeover it's clean and fresh. Hats off to the new owners they have obviously worked very hard and know what they are doing. You can't beat home cooked food at great prices, we will definitely be going more often.

Came for tea thursday evening the food was lovely very hot and large portions great value for money . We had steak pie,lasagne, fish n chips .service great too the young lady took are order at the table and are drinks order which was good not having to move. Thank u 5***** WE WILL BE BACK SOON.

Recently redecorated and under new management my wife and went in for an early evening meal at this our local pub. Our experience differed.

We popped to the Croppers having seen via Facebook that it had recently been renovated. We had eaten here a few years ago but hadn't been back for a while.

Stopped by with friends over the festive period for a drinks and food.

Excellent meal in the restaurant. We filled the place, many of us making different choices. Food delicious, served speedily and no mistakes. Well done!

Been here afew times and everytime food has been lovely and good value for money. It's always been busy for food but that has never reflected on the service. Will continue to return.

6 of us came for tea lovely meal we had starters and mains . Great value for money and very big portions. Homemade pie and lasagne was excellent. This is the second time I have dined here and not been disappointed. It is so difficult to find an eatery that produces quality food. It is good pub food, nothing fancy and that is perfect for me, although there is a craze at the moment of cooking a steak pie with ale. If I want ale with my food I buy a glass of it. They serve large portions and that is reflected in the price. The place is clean and homely and was full of older citizens who are very discerning, there was no discount for older persons and that speaks for itself.

My dad lives in walking distance the meal it's self was very good 3 Italian chicken one lasagna one hot dog and chips the atmosphere was laid back the older women was really good coffees ordered the younger women asked if we wonted the bill we was thinking about having a desert but all decided against it as she didn't give us chance to say we wasn't ready after that we all was thinking we had out staid our welcome paid then went don't know if we will go back may be the younger women wonted to go home ????

Visited the Croppers for the first time in many years & the food & service was as good as ever. A group of 15 of us visited on a Friday evening & the pub was busy. We were amazed how quickly the meals were produced & served.

I was in the area or should I say that I would be in the area later and as I was in need of a room the Croppers Arms came up trumps. I arrived about 5.30 and went in and saw the man. My room was arranged quickly and I went up and freshened up. I went back to the bar and ordered a pint of something lovely. The beer was good and the menu looked tempting so I ordered a dish of pork with the seasons vegetables. The food was as great as always and another beer washed my troubles away. I've stayed in the Croppers Arms on quite a few occasions and I've always found the food and beer to be perfect. I often look to see if they have a room free when I need one near Huddersfield and I'm always glad when I get a free room. Needless to say that I'll try again in the future to enjoy another night at The Croppers Arms.

We called for a meal on wednesday, as I was uninspired in the kitchen at home. It was quiet, even for midweek. There was a few regulars at the bar, but only 4 or 5 tables occupied. we got some drinks and chose our meals. Hubby had Seafood Medley, with roasties and 3 veg, there was scampi, plaice + cod goujons. I chose Curry of the day, this was chicken in a medium spiced sauce, with rice + Naan bread. We both enjoyed our meals, hubby cleared his plate [as usual], I left a little though [ I was full up]. Before we left a few more 'diners' had come in out of the cold. The 2 young ladies that looked after us were attentive and pleasant, and said goodbye as we left. It was a nice meal and a break from cooking.

We booked a table in the bar area for 5 people, not knowing how busy or intrusive this would be. In the event we enjoyed good, reasonably-priced food in a pleasant convivial atmosphere, tucked away in a room adjoining the main bar area. Service was good and we enjoyed a couple of beers before and during eating. Very pleasant.

Had a meal while in the area with work. Nice simple pub grub very filling and great value for money. Friendly staff and a good point perfect.

we visited for a meal on wednesday, it was quite busy. we bought our drinks and sat down to peruse the menu. i chose the lasagne starter as i fancied a sweet and did'nt want to overface myself. hubby chose haddock, chips,mushy peas, which came with garden peas instead + wedges replacing the chips, he did'nt mind the changes. my lasagne was plentiful and tasty, but lacked garnish, it would have looked more appetising with a little salad or a garnish at least!. hubby enjoyed his meal mostly, though there were a couple of bones in his fish. the jam + coconut traybake i ordered came without any cream or custard, it would have been dry, but was given some custard when i asked, it was very nice, the pastry melted in the mouth. we've dined here lots of times, this is the first time i've given less than a very good rating. i'm afraid they lost points this time because of the small niggles mentioned above. we'll come again because of past visits that have been very good. the staff were nice and polite though they were quite busy. its a popular pub with a seperate dining room if you prefer. they have 6 ensuite rooms that are nice, and i hear they do a good breakfast. the croppers is in a busy shopping area of MARSH, and the bus stops just outside to go to HUDDS town centre.

We booked a table for 12 people on Tuesday 28 June.The room itself is very tastefully decorated and accessorised. Half of the party had starters and all happy with their choices. I think the 12 of us all chose something different from the menu but,nevertheless, after only a short wait,all the meals arrived together.All of the meals were hot and we'll presented with lovely vegetables and appropriate sauces and accompanying salads were crisp and colourful with even a hard boiled egg,loved it.The staff were attentive and polite but not intrusive.There was not one complaint from any of us.A lovely evening,great food at good prices,lovely staff.Highly recommended, thank you.

We arrived just as they were opening for lunch ar 12 o'clock. I went to the bar and ordered two beef dinners and drinks, which were very quickly served by a very attentive and pleasant waitress. The meals were perfectly cooked, the Yorkshire puds were perfect, just like mother used to make, and the beef and accompaniments were excellent. The pub itself was clean and welcoming. We'll be back.

A traditional pub, serving fine beers and handsome home made meals. Smaller portions if you ask. The fact that it was busy mid-week speaks for it's self.

First visit to the croppers and must say the food was good value for money. The portions were just right. The only criticism is the service was too quick didn't have time to digest between courses. Overall was left satisfied and will visit again.

we went for a midweek meal & combined it with a family catch up. the croppers is a regular meeting place. my niece, myself + my hubby ordered from the specials board, we chose; lemon herbed chicken, caramelised onion sausages + slow cooked belly pork respectively. these came with 3 veg + roast or mashed potatoes. my nieces partner and my brother in law chose from the table menu, roast beef dinner + roast pork dinner were their choices. all the meals were plentiful and tasty [lots of pork on the roast dinner]. the men chatted,[sport mainly,YAWN], the ladies talked, family,hols, e.t.c. a good get together+meal at a good price too.

It was Saturday teatime when we visited. We arrived at 4.55 just as the footy results scores were flowing through on tv. We then found out that food wasn't being served until 5.30, however the menus were on the tables and orders could be made in advance. The pub was quiet and the menu contained plenty of very reasonably priced pub staples, so much so that I struggled to narrow down my choice.Shortly after 5.30 our food arrived. The Hunter's Chicken got a big thumbs up from the missus as did our daughter's fish fingers, chips and peas. That only left me and unfortunately I was underwhelmed. The steak, ale and mushroom pie was tasty enough, it was well presented and there was sufficient of it, however I could only describe the temperature of it as tepid at best i.e. on the low side of warm. As I was ravenous, I was with the family and wished to eat with them, I didn't send it back but instead cleared my plate.This was the only aspect of our experience that didn't come up to scratch and I'm happy to give them another chance... at some point in the near future, I expect.Oh, and I almost forgot to say the Golden Pippin beer didn't disappoint. In fact I enjoyed it more than my meal!

We are lucky this is our local pub,why go anywhere else, great atmosphere,good food,plenty of variety and not overpriced.

I had the pleasure of staying at The Croppers Arms recently and I chose it because I have had good experiences with their menu in the past. In the past I chose a dish from the specials board but tonight I chose from the bar menu. The choice was good and varied and the prices didn't break the bank. They had a specials board but I didn't fancy the duck so I chose a chilli con carne with rice and garlic bread from the bar menu. I also chose a pint of one of their real ales which was another reason to choose The Croppers Arms. My chilli was spiced just right with just the right amount of chilli and the garlic bread wasn't over powerful. All in it was a very good meal washed down with a great pint of beer. A second pint instead of a dessert and I was finished. The Croppers Arms is a great place to eat and also a great Bed and Breakfast. I'll be returning when I need a room in the north next time.

we have just returned form having Sunday lunch, it was by far some of the best roast beef I have had.the food is traditional home cooked and done very well.the prices are not bad, well worth a visit

Paid £45 for Christmas Dinner, we were handed a plated meal akin to a canteen for homeless people......simply rubbish. Nuff said.

4 of us went for a Christmas meal. The service was terrible, it took over an hour to serve two courses. When we had finished our main meal it took 30 minutes to clear the table. We had called in to book the table the week before. At the time of booking we asked if cheese and biscuits would be available for dessert as one of our party is diabetic. We were assured they would be. On the evening the order for cheese and biscuits was taken, the bar staff asked the kitchen if they were available and we were told they were. After 15 minutes the waitress told us there weren't any. Could it have been something to do with the quiz starting and they couldn't be bothered? This rather put a dampener on our evening, the food was mediocre and the service terrible, we had to ask for serviettes as none came with the cutlery for the starter.All in all not a pleasant dining experience.

Called in here with People from work and was thrilled to find fast efficient service and lovely food. They managed to serve 16 of us in our lunch hour and we were all back to work on time. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I will be coming back!

i had'nt named wednesdays tea, and my son was dining out, so i decided to give cooking a rest. we've been here on a few occasions before. from the varied menu and blackboard specials, i chose sausage + bacon pie, this came with a mash topping that had apple sauce in, it was very good, it came with 3 veg, i declined extra potato choice. hubby had slow cooked belly pork, with 3 veg + roast spuds, he emptied his plate so that speaks for itself. we found room for a sweet, hubby had lemon tart + ice cream, i had toffee crunch pie, this was a choc biscuit base with a creamy filling+ toffee crumble topping, both very yummy!. the pub was quite busy, but our meals arrived in good time + were nicely served. 2 good meals for under £12 each, and a break from stove duty for me, RESULT!.

I regularly stay here when visiting relatives. It is always clean, and the staff are very helpful. Breakfast is included in the room rate and there is a choice of cereals and cooked breakfasts and toasts. Only orange juice though and I would have preferred apple. The bar has a good menu and there are additional daily specials. Good Yorkshire home cooking, nothing out of the ordinary but good value for money.Try to get a room at the back though as otherwise the bus may stop outside your bedroom window.

I was in Leeds when it became apparent that I was in need of a room for the night so I checked with LateRooms.com and as Leeds was expensive I found The Croppers Arms in Huddersfield which was at a price I liked. I drove there in the rush hour and found it with ease and I also found the car park at the rear. The inn has its own parking area within the much larger Marsh car park. I went in and was greeted by a smiling land lady who showed me my room and the fire escape. Once I had freshened up I went to see what there was on the great outside. There is a KFC nearby and a Subway fast food place plus the Co Op opposite also does the usual things that Co Ops do. As the town centre seemed to far to walk I decided to eat in The Croppers Arms as it's menu looked tempting. The beer also looked good and as the inn is in the good beer guide it should be. I ordered a pint and I also chose the pork dish off the specials board. The beer was very nice and obviously kept properly and the food was absolutely scrumptious. After I cleared my plate I went for a stroll and as I wandered back I noticed a bus stop right outside the pub. A bus for the town centre came around the corner and I stuck my arm out. The bus stopped and I got on. It cost £1.60 to go to Huddersfield Town centre and I strolled around the town as the evening was a pleasant one. After a while I decided that I had better find the right bus stop to get back and it wasn't long before I was sampling the beer again in the Croppers Arms. As I'd been up early I went up to my room around 9.30 and watched the tele until my eyes felt tired so I was in the comfy bed before long. Sleep quickly found me despite the noise from the quiz and before long I was awake again at 6. I had certainly slept fine and I went into my spacious bathroom to try the shower. It was certainly a power shower at the right temperature and I gave it 5 stars. After my shower I went in search of breakfast and I wasn't disappointed with that either. My English breakfast was hot and freshly cooked with toast and tea to compliment it. After breakfast I paid my bill and headed back to Leeds to continue where I left off yesterday. I enjoyed my stay at the Croppers Arms and I must say that the staff made me feel at home. This is certainly a Northern Delight.

I visited here one Thursday tea-time, the website states that food is served from 5.30. this was when the pub opens, (not sure if it opens earlier on other days).Within 10 minutes of opening the pub was around half full. Many customers were clearly regulars. My friend and I made our choices and placed our order at the bar.Our food arrived quickly and was exactly what we expected, my friend had the meat pie with roastys and veg. I chose a vegetable tart from the vegetarian selection.The pub itself is a little tired but, if you look past that the food is good home cooking, we would happily visit again.

I stayed at the Croppers recently and having booked at short notice, was offered the last available room. Arriving at around 7.30pm I ordered a snack from the specials board, the everyday menu has an extensive choice but the 'pulled pork baguette' special was the one for me. Moist and tender it was gorgeous.My room directly overlooked the main road but the double glazing was very effective at soundproofing and this, combined with the plush, comfy bed, ensured that I slept like a baby!After a well cooked full breakfast, I left the following morning feeling very happy with my stay here, I would certainly stay again and recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, clean and comfortable b & b in this area.

We have eaten here several times and it's always been ok for pub food and prices are reasonable BUT we ate here tonight and both myself and my husband ordered ribeye steak off the specials board, it was horrendous!! When we complained they didn't seem interested and all we were offered was half of our money back as we had eaten some of it. It was small, thin, tasted horrid and badly cooked, worst steak I've eaten so don't order it. This has now totally put us off eating here again.

I've not been here for years, but called in today for Sunday lunch with my sons, three roast dinners, very tasty and generous portions. The staff were very helpful and friendly, I don't live in Hudds, but can recommend this to those that do

It was very crowded when we visited with a full dining room so we ate at a table in the bar. Despite being very busy we did not have to wait long for our meal which I would describe as Good Pub Food. Very reasonably priced. Excellent beers.

On Wednesday 26th Nov 2014 we stopped at the cropper Inn for lunch this is a lovely pub good atmosphere friendly staff we both had a beef & onion sandwich with a side said & onion rings all washed down with a lovely pint of pippings bitter All for £14.05 I Thort this was very good value & we both enjoyed are lunch & we will be going back

The cropper Inn is a lovely local pub with good pub food & a good range of beers to choose from With a warm atmosphere & welcoming staffI will be going back there

we go quite a few times and the meals are good and reasonably priced. they're is a varied menu, from meat +3veg, home made pies, steaks, fish, pasta + veggie options,and always a good pud choice board, if you've got room! good beer selection too!

Went for Sunday afternoon pub dinner while visiting the area with my teenage son. Food was bland and over salted. Vegetables were over cooked. No fish & chips on the menu. It was very hot and stuffy in the dining room and the tables were uncomfortably close to each other. We love exploring England and have visited many, many pubs. This experience rates close to the bottom of our pub adventures.
