I visited Leggers for dinner and a drink to celebrate a birthday . The menu looked great and would have been if half of my main meal wasn’t cold . Chips and peppercorn sauce were tepid . I ask for my fillet steak rare and it was cooked through . Everyone else’s chips and sauce were cold too. My meal was changed without question and with a smile . I had the stew and dumplings , it was piping hot and very nice . It was quiet so I don’t know why the food was cold . The overall experience was good and the bar staff , especially Lydia were lovely and very friendly . I would have preferred to be able to buy a 750ml bottle of red wine rather than those little ones . All other colours of wine came in large bottles so don’t know why red didn’t . Would I go again? …. Yes but not for a celebratory meal . I may have expected too much from a pub . The meals that were coming out for other people looked lovely especially the Yorkshire pudding sharing platter , it was massive .

Having walked here numerous times for drinks in the sunshine we decided to call for lunch. Mentioned to the barmaid it was disappointing and not as sunny as planned to which she replied I'm glad and I hope its crap all weekend then I can finish early!!!!! We ordered drinks and asked if we could have a tab with a view to ordering food. She said no and by the way it's a limited menu so dont bother making your mind up from the menu board. We were given a limited menu and placed our order. She told me to get my own knives forks salt pepper vinegar and napkins whilst juggling two pints and had to navigate the stairs. When the steak and ale pie with peas and gravy came it was so disappointing. The half spoonful of peas was on top of a stale pie containing one piece of meat. Very very disappointing food and service

Really disappointing. Been to parties here previously but massively gone down hill. Can't blame the bar staff but just generally bad management. My mum and dad had a 30th wedding anniversary party. Room was double booked which the other guests came to tell us. I can only assume they got our food buffet because ours was shocking, not worth £470 for sure. They have given half money back but I honestly don't think it quite cuts it! We was there from 3pm it's a long time to go without decent food. DJ was great and it is in nice grounds.

Really disappointed to write this review as this is somewhere we have been meaning to try for the last few months after seeing the amazing looking food on Facebook. The experience we had today was so poor, we chose to come today (Monday lunchtime around 12:30pm) for a nice lunch before my friend started work. We were the only ones in the pub and weren’t even greeted with a hello! After saying we wanted to eat we were given 2 ‘lazy Sunday’ menus, which was confusing as it was Monday & the spring/summer menu is what drew us to go here (served 12-3 excluding sat & sun) I asked for the Philly cheese steak sandwich and was abruptly told they weren’t doing that menu today. We decided on the ‘bun bun platter’ two burgers & a side for £30. We ordered and paid for our food and drinks at the bar. About 10 minutes of waiting the girl from the bar came over and said unfortunately their meat fridge had been turned off therefore they would have to go out and get supplies which would mean a long wait! I just think this was a terrible excuse, how could this even happen? Just seemed like they didn’t want to start cooking just for us. We got our money back & won’t be returning. We felt uncomfortable & felt like we weren’t wanted there. I’m presuming it would be different all together if we went on a weekend, however this has now put us off.

8 of us went for a meal yesterday after looking at the pictures and reviews on here. We wanted to go for some nice food, play a game of pool. And somewhere the kids could also play. It looks so nice on the photos but it was really run down in person. The kids play area is not like the photos, the slides are missing, the climbing frame is broken and dangerous. The sand pit is filthy. The bar man was welcoming though and the food was really nice. Its situated in a lovely place with the canal boats. Its just a shame they haven't kept up with cleaning and maintenance of the site. But we do recommend the food. We had the ribs and salmon and the kids pizza meal.

Heard great things about this place and visited for the first time on Saturday. A few people in our group ordered loaded chips and the toppings looked so nice. I decided to order salt n pepper chips expecting fresh toppings but all I got was a powdered seasoning which was disappointing. Toilets absolutely disgusting and I had my 2 month old with me, so when I went to change him in the baby changing it looked like it had never been cleaned and it stank. So glad I have a travel changing mat because I would not be putting my baby on that thing I would have changed him in the middle of the room on a table! I was a bit hesitant putting my mat on the dirty changing table tbh. I'm sure it's nice in summer being able to eat outside by the canal and I will come back to do that. The food did look nice and everyone else enjoyed theirs, it was just very disappointing when I got mine. Hopefully the toilets will be clean by the time I return.

Really disappointed with my visit from yesterday! I rang in advance to book a table and then arrived yesterday to be told it’s only starters and shares? So basically it was loaded chips or wings… and we didn’t want any of that. I came for one of your gorgeous burgers or halloumi wraps I had seen.. I would have appreciated a call beforehand to tell me your only serving starters or sharers to start with before we wasted our time coming down. We then saw lots of burgers coming out the kitchen and given to a family.. so I asked the lady behind the bar and they said they just made up this menu now and that’s all that’s available.. no burgers to be seen on it. So why did these people get special treatment? We left and went elsewhere. Really disappointed and didn’t realise you had to be special to be given a secret menu.

From the outside the pub looked lovely. Music playing, by the water with barges and plenty of seating but unfortunately the food was a bit of a let down. The vegan burger was over cooked, chips cold, parmo had no bechamel or marinara sauce on, battered Mars bar smelt like fish (I can only assume it was cooked in same oil as the fish) and although the apple crumble (vegan) was lovely, there was no vegan option for custard or ice cream so had to have it plain. The most disappointing bit by far was the rudeness of the waitress who served us. I’d have got more charisma and manners from a lettuce leaf! She may as well have rolled her eyes in front of us; she absolutely did not want to be there!! (and made us not want to return).

My local. Great pub. As an ale and craft beer drinker, options are limited, but this is a village pub catering for everyone, so can't focus on one type of clientèle, so provides more options across all tastes, rather than just a more niche group. People are friendly as are the staff and you can see in the age range how this pub services its' community.

I had lunch there with my daughter today. Whilst the food was super, we asked for some allergy advice. We were offered a large file of all the allergy issues for everything on the menu. I have never seen such attention to detail and the restaurant and staff deserve to be lauded for not only having this file but the charming and friendly way in which it was handled. We had a lovely time there. Thanks to everyone. Great beer too!

There were menu items marked “available gluten free”. I specifically said I was allergic to gluten and my meal needed to be gluten free. I asked them to make sure nothing containing gluten was put on the plate. They put pickled beetroot on my salad. Pickled in barley malt vinegar. When my mouth started to burn I asked if the vinegar was gluten free? The lady in the kitchen said yes, it only contains barley. I had to tell her that barley is gluten! I tried to be brave but five minutes later I ran down to the toilets and vomited. They didn’t even come down to see if I was ok or if I needed an ambulance or anything (luckily I didn’t). I’ve been ill for two days now. Do not eat here if you have allergies or need a free from meal!

This place is a hidden gem! We had a dinner, bed and breakfast package for just one night and it was amazing value for money. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. There was an extensive menu choice for our evening meal and all the items we ordered were good quality, well cooked and generous in terms of portion size. The beer was well kept and the wine list surprisingly good and reasonably priced in my view. We had the full English breakfast in the morning with items being locally sourced and high quality. The coffee was good and the toast was made from artisan sourdough bread. The staff are terrific, being friendly, polite and professional and they worked together as a well-organised team. One last thing to mention is that the Olive Branch is perfectly located for walks along the canal.

This was our second ‘family’ visit to this highly popular gastro pub based in Honley, near Holmfirth. We’d booked for four people but when five of us turned up, they very easily found a table big enough for us without any fuss. The drinks order was taken and delivered very promptly. The cask bitter from Wainwrights brewery was excellent and was the wine, gin and diet cokes! We orders pink sirloin of beef x 3, a venison and a pork…. All with Yorkshire puddings and vegetables with gravy. All came out quickly and piping hot. We had cheese cake for desert. All the food and service was excellent. The price was very reasonable too. We shall return. This place is highly recommended and hugely popular with a great atmosphere and great friendly staff! 😉👍
