On the back of previous reviews we gave the Boot Inn a try and so, so glad we did. Arrived early evening and felt really at home, with a friendly barman and locals making us welcome, with good conversation, a proper old English pub at its best….good local ale and quality red wine. To cap it all the food exceeding all expectations. We enjoyed the baked Camembert and pâté to start and we both had the ribeye steak for main with beautiful sweet tomatoes, mushroom and wicked homemade chips. We also had both homemade sauces, one peppercorn, the other Stilton. OMG…they were exceptional and I’m prone to be critical so that is real praise. We will definitely return when we next visit the area. It wasn’t cheap but was real value in a world where all too often you are left feeling disappointed. 10/10 ….keep up the great work

We always visit The Boot Inn when we’re staying in Calstock and it never fails to disappoint. We love the cosy atmosphere which you don’t have in many pubs these days. The food is absolutely fantastic and the presentation is spot on. Everything is reasonably priced as are the drinks. It’s a family owned pub and they are all very welcoming and friendly. We cannot wait to visit again next year when we’re back in Calstock.

Roast perfection!!!! This hidden gem in the heart of Calstock served up the most wonderful of Sunday Roast Dinners. The delicious food was generously portioned, and in fact the chef added a little special extra to enjoy… the cosy ambience and friendly staff created a thoroughly enjoyable Sunday afternoon for our family, and we will DEFINITELY be returning to sample some more of the incredible food.

We visited Calstock this easter. It poured with rain. The lowest point was finding out that there was no food available in Calstock where we were staying, on Tuesday, after bank holiday Monday. So, miserable and with two miniature Schnauzers in tow, we went back to our favourite pub, the Boot Inn, to order a packet of crisps and some drinks for supper. Even though the restaurant was shut, the owner took pity on us, opened the kitchen and cooked the best meal we had on our short stay. The food was cooked with loving care and we experienced a real Cornish welcome. My advice is simple: You need to book early - and avoid the wrong telephone number on a web site - don’t bother going anywhere else for supper in Calstock. And there is a real wood fire to warm yourself if it is wet and cold. 😀

We have recently moved nearby, but I think we can still get away with reviewing The Boot from first impressions as a visitor. If you are coming to Calstock, or staying in the area, you have to go to The Boot. It is vibrant, local, welcoming and unique. The food is great, and there is a good variety - not "pub food", much more thoughtful than that. It is a good restaurant set in a pub. The moment you walk in you know it is a genuine part of the community and even as a visitor you can borrow a part of village life for a few hours. Like the whole of Calstock, The Boot is not just for the summer visitors and is a reminder of what so many other places have lost. This shows, because you will want to visit again.

Dropped in without reservation, for a Sunday Roast. Very welcoming, allowed well behaved dogs. Gave us a great table, took a drink order quickly, and the food order was also taken in good time. The roast was delicious, on of the best we have had. Loads of veg, loads of meat and very good homemade Yorkies. Good veggie choice as well. The barman was a very pleasant chap, who gave us a good 15 minutes notice that our table was reserved from 1.30pm, so we didn’t feel rushed at all. Had a nice chat with te staff whilst settling the bill. Definitely worth a visit, probably best to book, we were lucky, it is a very small pub, so tables are taken quickly.

Called in for lunch today, as whenever I can when in the area, this is my favourite local pub for food in Cornwall. As expected, we ordered food and not long after, out came 2 amazing meals. My Chicken was proper Roast Chicken, more vegetables than the local grocers and my friends Sea Bass was loved by them. The Cauliflour Cheese was something I normally avoid, but here it was enjoyed and inspired my taste buds. A visit to The Boot is worth it for excellent food, most welcoming and lovely hosts in a true, proper pub atmosphere without the fast pace of most pubs. As always I'll be back as soon as I can.

On our second visit we were delighted that the food was again, utterly delicious and the welcome was equally as warm. Loved this pub. Firstly they got us a drink when they were actually closed as we were in desperate need after a huge walk. Really nice of them when they didn’t have to! Our friends have moved nearby so we had some great chats about the local area and came back for a pint that night. Last night we had the most wonderful meal, Shaun cooked to perfection 4 completely different meals including fish, duck, steak and lamb - each of which has a knack to getting perfect, which he achieved. We had scallops to start which were divine! We were also provided with his homemade Irish soda bread which was delicious. Kim and Harry kept us in drinks and banter and it was lovely that we got to compliment Shaun in person before we left, what a lovely family. Thank you guys, we will be back next year 💚🇮🇪☘️

On 16th May in the morning we visited Calstock and looked at the menu of The Boot Inn and also the Tamar Inn and decided that it was The Boot for us as the menu was more interesting. The sign outside said open for meals on Tuesday to Saturday and it was indeed a Tuesday. On the evening of Tuesday 16th May we parked at the bottom and walked up, but the place looked to be closed, my wife tried the door which was locked and very shortly afterwards a lady opened it and informed us they were closed. These words were backed up by a man whose tirade was extremely offensive. We had no option other than to beat a hasty retreat, go down the hill and throw our lot in at The Tamar Inn. We were both impressed by the standard of cooking, our meal was first class.

Close to the beach but wildly overpriced for really basic fare and their “artisan gelato” is disgusting. We tried three flavours and they were all terrible, but the chocolate was so atrocious we couldn’t finish it. Ask yourself when the last time you didn’t finish an ice cream was!

On holiday for a week and we visited 3 times. First time was for a drink only, second for an evening meal and thenthirdnfir Sunday lunch. On all occasions, service was friendly, attentive (without being in your face or false) and courteous. Our evening meal was a beautiful piece of grilled haddock in a very tasty sauce with vegetables and potatoes. We also ordered a side of truffled mac n cheese. It was absolutely amazing. Sunday lunch was probably the best I've ever eaten as a pub dining experience and I've eaten a fair few in my 59 years. We opted for the 3 meat version of beef, pork and turkey. The vegetable selection was interesting and perfectly cooked. The giant yorkshire pudding was delicious but for me, the roast potatoes and gravy were the jewels in the very large crown. There was no room for pudding but on our evening visit, we did share the amaretto chocolate torte, which was fantastic 😀. For the quality and portion sizes, I would say The Pityme Inn is excellent value for money.
