Nice clean, local pub. Food's good and quite a few choices for lager, some ciders and one ale. All well kept. Staff work hard to keep the place running, locals are a welcoming bunch and I'm glad the village has this as an asset.

Went for a drink with friends, the sportsman's Arms is a sports pub with a large screen TV showing the current sport. We were able to sit away from the screen and talk amongst ourselves. Dog friendly.

We’ve been into The Sportsman’s Arms on a number of occasions but Saturday 2nd September was the first time that we had eaten there. We booked a table for 4 and as usual, we were warmly welcomed. The menu was lovely and there was something for everyone. We ordered baked Camembert to share and some crispy chilli beef as starters. There was the option of freshly made pizza on that evening, which 3 of us had and I can honestly say it was amongst the very best pizza I’ve eaten. Perfectly cooked, slightly crispy underneath and generously topped…… delicious! As we were all hungry we ordered a side of chips for the table too. Our eyes were very much bigger than our bellys and we ended up with boxes of pizza to take away. Excellent service, excellent selection of beers and spirits, excellent food. We will definitely eat here again.

Very warm welcome from bar staff and strangers alike, great selection of fine beers 🍻 and a beautifully selected menu which is perfect, the food is absolutely amazing and the mains are suitable for the heartiest of appetites. I would recommend this place as its down to earth and doesn't pretend to be something it's not, genuine honest people and fine foods and drink, please visit the sportsmans Arms you will not be disappointed

A local pub but made us welcome

I would have put more stars as we were warmly welcomed on Sat 29th July where staff & locals were really friendly & asked if we could watch F1 on the Sunday which the landlady said was fine but unfortunately the barmaid said she didnt want it on....we were disappointed as there were 4 of us that would have eaten & obviously had a drink or 3!

Small, friendly, very welcoming pub, great atmosphere, great service and amazing food. The wife thought she'd have something light and went for the fish and chips, it came out and it was a whale and the portion and half of chips, OMG, she managed it all, I had the rump steak (rare) and it was cooked to perfection, one of the best meals we have eaten out in a long time.

Went her by chance before attending at event at the school. We got there before the kitchen opened but they offered to open early as we were in a rush. World cup burgers were very tasty, well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Would go again and very much recommend.

Lovely village pub! Was working in the village and popped in after work and I'm glad I did. Open fire, fantastic pool table and welcoming locals. On my list to visit for food next time.

Tapas nights on Wednesdays are so delicious! Freshly cooked, generous portions and great choices. Such good value and worth every penny. We love the food here and the a la carte menu is fab too. This is our 'go to' place and on our doorstep too!

Just don't bother to visit for Sunday lunch unless you want good, honest, plentiful and well-cooked food. Don't bother if you want a menu as Sunday Lunch is a verbal 'pork, beef, chicken'. And never, ever come here if you don't want to sit in the small main room of the bar and chat with the very friendly locals. And don't bother with this place if you don't want to be served by chef/cook carrying plates the size of small cartwheels. But please tell chef not to be upset if you can't eat it all (which I did and I couldn't...). As for value... what can I say. We paid the same for two meals plus two drinks that we would pay for one meal in town. If I could I would give it 6*.

Exhausted after a big drive to Penzance we visited this pub as it was a short walk from our cottage and one of the neighbours recommended it to us, we were not disappointed. The food was awesome, freshly cooked, tasty and generous portion sizes. The pub has a fantastically friendly atmosphere and both staff and regulars made us feel very welcome. It’s a pity this pub isn’t our local back home as we would be there every week, it’s a real gem.

We were holidaying in the area and this was the local pub, so thought we would try it because we’ve had a few bad experiences. We had an absolutely lovely meal and was the best meal we have had since we have been here! We came with our little boy and all the locals in the pub were so friendly and gave us more recommendations on things to do in the local area. The portions are very generous you will not be leaving hungry!!

Staying in the village for a holiday and family member gifted us a gift voucher for this pub. Friendly staff on arrival. Decided on hake, fish and chips and linguine. Absolutely stunning meals, thoroughly enjoyed by all. Big portion sizes and delicious flavours. Had puddings or syrup sponge and eton mess, both were very tasty. Overall, delicious meals and very presented.

Daniella, we would just like to say thank you for the 3 visits this week, the sizzling steak, the Hake crumb, king prawn , to name a few were fantastic, your certainly the best Taven host we encountered, and your chef was incredibly talented, after a long day having adventures throughout Cornwall was wonderful to frequent you amazing inn with amazing food, we so hope to see you all again soon , cheers

Delicious, fresh food prepared to perfection. Hard to choose from the menu as all dishes are so tempting! I chose hake in breadcrumbs on a bed of leeks, asparagus and crushed new potatoes with a silky lemon veloute. Husband's surf and turf was cooked perfectly, just as he likes it, medium-rare. So lucky to have this pub on our doorstep. We ate out recently in Bournemouth and had very disappointing meals. Came home to the best meal of the week! Thank you, Jamie, Daniella and newly appointed chef, Jay.

Good local pub with decent food.

What an friendly place, the locals and staff are so friendly and the food is absolutely amazing, they also have entertainment and theme nights which are also great fun where everyone joins in, if you are down this way it's one not to be missed, even just for a drink, which I'm sure will soon turn to a night out when you see the food coming from the kitchen. All the best for the future.

Really good food and friendly locals.

We are staying on a local caravan site for our holiday and we was advised to visit this amazing bar. We felt so welcome by the staff and locals, who gave us lots of walks ideas with our dog. Sitting by an open fire whilst our dog stretched out very comfortably, we had the most amazing steak, it was cooked to perfection! I went to pay the bill and I'm still in shock how cheap it was. Lovely service, very clean and tidy, good food.

Staying at a nearby holiday cottage and looked up local eateries, pre booked as advised. Arrived and greeted by a friendly barman, the roast came and it was superb, beef was tender, vegetables cooked just right and the roasties were some of the best I’ve ever had, too much for me to finish. Would recommend anyone who is in the area to go

Checked on the way past, late afternoon, when do you do food, 6 - 8.30. We turned up at 7.30 having walked down there to be told they weren't doing food tonight, not amused.

The crab linguine was to die for!

We stayed in a cosy cottage in Heamoor through Airbnb and were advised by the owner to visit this local pub. We stayed for a week at the beginning of September and decided to try our luck on the 1st night we arrived. The barmaid was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, and even though we hadn't booked fitted us in for a meal. The food over the next few days was exceptional. Sunday Dinner was lovely especially the mouth watering tender beef. We recommend the fish and steak if you visit more than once. On each visit the barmaid or landlady was very friendly and always served us with a smile. Good selection of draught beers and lagers too.Highly Recommend

We just tried the Sunday roast takeaway, wow, what a plateful! Lovely tender meat (beef and gammon tried!) great selection of vegetables, gravy, Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes! Highly recommended, if you live in Penzance (we're only half a mile away!) or a bit further away, superb quality Sunday lunch for a reasonable price. Lovely helpful staff, food loaded into our car all cling fim covered and in plastic transport trays... Just a perfect lunch solution!

We just love this , our local pub. The food is amazing, generous portions and great value too. The fish and chips is the best around by far - fresh fish from Newlyn and lovely home made chips. Pizzas are enormous on home made bases, the crab linguine is one of our newly found favourites - a generous amount of crab and the most delicious sauce. Delivered to our door even! Or eat in and have the best steak and chips with all the trimmings although I do think that the slow roasted pork with apple mash might even beat it!Friendly service, delicious food, generous portions and great value. We recommend most highly!

Piping hot, generous portions of succulent, slow cooked, tender beef and pork, with fresh vegetables. Such good value. Takeaways and delivery options also available. Why cook at home?!! They are SO busy so advanced bookings recommended to avoid disappointment. The weekday restaurant menu is also superb. As locals, we really enjoy the walk down the road!

Had a really good meal. It's not an obvious tourist pub but the food was excellent, very good size portions. One real ale on which was also very good.

Couldn't praise this gem of a pub enough. Came down on holiday and we had been recommended to visit the sportsmans arms. I'm so glad we did. The food was top notch the chef certainly knows how to cook. The bar staff and locals are all very friendly, we were made to feel very welcome. So sad when it came to the end of the evening had had to leave. We definitely will be back to visit. The current landlords are wonderful and we wish them all the luck in the world.

Just finished my fish and chips on a Tuesday and it was absolutely beautiful. Lovely batter, lovely fish, awesome chips. I'd have to say the best I've had, anywhere. If only they could deliver to Warwickshire I'd order next week too 😁

Brilliant place nice evening with friends

We were staying locally at Boscrowan Farm (highly recommended) and were looking forward to visiting this pub . We have dined here before and remembered that the food was excellent so we thought that we would try their takeaways. I can honestly say that they are the best takeaways we have ever had. They were so good, in fact, that we ended up going five times! We tried the fish and chips, burgers (on Burgers of the World night), pizza, special cottage pie and even a jacket potato. They were all very tasty and the portions were big. Excellent value for money. The couple who run the pub were very welcoming and have obviously made a success of their takeaway business during these difficult times. We wish them every success and hope that locals and visitors will continue to support them so that we can enjoy the food again when we next return.

Nice locals pub, dog friendly,human friendly. After travelling down from Wales 6 hours journey, it was nice to find this place, perfect for us. We had a freshly made pizza and chips to takeaway which was the best pizza we have ever tasted.

What a dreadful colour this pub is painted it looks more like a prison than a Inn.

I would just like to say how very pleased we are with the take away delivery service, during the lockdown. The young couple are very polite & obliging. The fish & chips are really delicious ( although, I would prefer my chips a little more coloured! ) They are also very reliable,punctual & so reasonable. It has been a highlight for us & I can definitely recommend.

The Sportsmans is a typical local Cornish pub. The banter from the locals is friendly and funny. You are made welcome and that is a nice thing. They have a nice selection of spirits to try, surprisingly so for somewhere out of the main town.

As residents of Heamoor, we do eat here quite often, as they have a very good menu as well as theme nights - eg. fish and chips on Tuesdays, curries on Wednesdays, steak night on Fridays. But it was the Sunday roast that we cannot recommend highly enough. Succulent, lean beef that melted in the mouth and fresh, piping hot veg and plates. We so enjoyed it and hope others will too.

Great food and service. Even though the vegetarian options are very limited and there's only one vegan dish, the available option is absolutely amazing!

Friendly staff, good choice of beers

Small and basic, the Sportsmans clearly caters for the local populace who, I accept, are entitled to use fruity language in the games room and at the bar; just wish I'd been more aware before I sat down with my drink.

Popped in for a beer only, late one afternoon. A very friendly atmosphere in the main bar. I took my dog in and she was very much given love as were two more dogs also in the bar. A good selection of guest ales and the one I went for had been very well kept. I wouldn't hesitate to re-vist the pub for another beer or two.

Our roast meals of beef and chicken were great and the whole meal went down a treat! We also enjoyed delicious desserts. The lad who served us was very efficient and friendly and the atmosphere appropriate for our needs.

Enjoyed a fabulous meal here last night. The belly pork on wholegrain mustard mash with red cabbage was sublime and the men enjoyed an excellent value rump steak with all the trimmings for under £12 per head. Would definitely recommend and will be returning. Great food, excellent friendly service - nothing too much trouble, in fairly traditional village pub decor.

Went here last night for a pub quiz,ok,lots of laughs,great friends,but by god do not drink anything from a pump.Been there before,had a few of their look like nice beers,boy that doesn`t happen,beer is crap,thought i`d give it another go,beer is still crap,and then, to top of the nastyness of alcoholic beverages,they start serving shorts,you know,either with coke etc,but no,ask for lemonade and you get soda water,don`t get told and still get charged,cheers for that,always like getting charged for stuff that you don`t get.......

Had a few meals here whilst we were staying locally at Boscrowan Farm (fabulous place!). All the food was lovely, excellent value for money and the locals were very friendly. If you just judge it on the décor (very simple) you will be missing out on some quite amazing food - the place is a definite asset to the village.

Nous ne nous attendions pas à de la nourriture gastronomique mais quelque chose de correct pour un repas au pub un samedi soir. Malheureusement non seulement nous avons attendu presque 1 heure pour être servi mais le burger thaï au poulet ainsi que le burger standard étaient plus que basic et j’ai trouvé un gros morceau d’aluminium dans mon burger. le burger thaï constituait en un morceau de poulet agrémenté d’une sauce aigre-douce dans un pain. Bref très décu.

Great little family pub! Lovely food too

My partner and I were staying just a few minutes up the road from this pub over the Easter weekend so we called in for dinner on Friday evening. We did not have a booking but that didn't matter as the staff were very accommodating and we were sat in the small restaurant area away from the busy bar. The lady advised us that there would be a wait for food however, this did not materialise and we felt that our food arrived in good time. For starters I had the pate which was delicious and I opted for a burger for my main. The burger was served in a French baguette which was a first for me but it was delicious. Unfortunately we were both too full afterwards for dessert but we would definitely visit again.

We've just had a lovely belated Valentine meal, the food was amazing and as always the service was friendly, helpful and very welcoming. Thank you to all the staff who made our evening so enjoyable.

Pub is recovering from a troubled past ie bad management. It's in safe hands now and hopefully future reports will be better

My husband and I enjoy Sunday lunch here whenever we can. Tender beef with all the trimmings. Theme nights on the last Saturday of the month have also been delicious. The most recent, an Indian night, was superb. Home cooked and so much choice. We went for starters of chicken and pakoras, followed by the chicken Jalfrezi and lamb dhansak. As lovers of Indian food, this was as good, if not tastier, than our favourite Indian restaurant in the town. Hope you repeat this sometime soon, Jamie!

I didn't get chance to try the food but I had a drink. Good prices, good selection. Nice outdoor seating area. Interior still looks like a work in progress. Had a bit of a social club feel. Staff were friendly too. The reputation of the food is good, with regular curry nights and other themed menus. I will definitely return to try the food and maybe push it up to four stars, but I wouldn't go out of my way to drink here again.

Acompañada de un buen vino tinto y un personal agradable, una vez más, disfrutamos de un paseo por la calle y sentir muy afortunados de tener esta calidad de comida de origen local en la puerta. Supera a cocinar!

Habíamos comido aquí y disfrutamos de buena comida, así que decidimos probar la noche bistec en 9 libras por cabeza. Guau. Suculentos cadera, tan tierno que era el mejor de todos. Aros de cebolla y una variedad de salsas sin costo extra. Buenos vinos. Una noche realmente fabulosa. Sin duda volveremos. El restaurante estaba lleno y un residente local dijo que estaba tan buena salud y su familia vienen a menudo. Así que vale la pena apoyar la gestión familiar.

Reservamos una mesa para 11 ya que tenía amigos que venían para el fin de semana de cumpleaños, reserva era sin ningún problema, nos sentamos en el lado del pub restaurante me di cuenta de que ha sido reformado y tiene buena pinta. Como era la noche del filete que decidimos tener la cadera por £9, fue genial, no duro, una muy buena comida, con opciones de hortalizas y patatas, todo el mundo alabó la calidad y relación calidad-precio. El servicio era excelente, nada era demasiado problema. Usted podría dan este pequeño pub local si estás pensando en comer en Penzance, pero ¡no! No te decepcionará si estás buscando mejor que 'pub' en los precios de la comida de pub. La casa es muy buena por cierto Merlot. . . . .

The bar staff really friendly and that was really nice I decided to have a Sunday dinner at 1 o'clock should've been okay and the food kind of vegetables were overcooked the point being watery I've mentioned it to the chef said Well the best for customers we have to like it and I went off shortly after I finished others wanted to have Sunday dinner and it was barely 1:30 did not give a good impression won't be having food there again

No creo que jamás una crítica, pero por dejar que encontramos esta pequeña joya y no pude resistir! Comida increíble a precios fantásticos (más de lo que esperábamos, lo cual fue una ventaja) personal amable que nos dio una cálida bienvenida. El tamaño de las porciones son muy generosas, apenas podíamos gestionar postre después de nuestro venado y carne sizzler, ambos estaban cocinadas a tales normas bueno, pero el casero profiteroles y salsa de chocolate eran deliciosos. No cabe duda de que volveremos a probar más del menú!

Estancia con un amigo que vive por la carretera, se tomó su salida como agradecimiento. El joven chef Fraser/camarero era muy amable y la comida era maravillosa. Su hermano Cameron que estuvo en el bar era muy agradable también. Un gran negocio familiar

This place has changed hands. The existing chef Jamie is now at the helm. Steak and chips with side of veges and lamb shank don't sound adventurous but when all is cooked well, tasty and served well by Jennifer who can complain. And we were hungry. Good size portions. No room for sweets.

cracking little pub. staff are always welcoming behind the bar and always chatty. After the new owners took 9ver the place has really updated with the look. food was awesome as you would expect from a quirky small village pub. can't wait to return. :)

What can I say? We were staying at a nearby B&B, where we asked for somewhere to get dinner on the evening we arrived - The Sportsmans Arms was recommended. The bar was busy as they were showing the football, however they were very happy to seat us in the dining room where it was quieter and we were able to enjoy a decent pub meal - exactly what we needed after a fairly long drive.
