Well the day after my daughters wedding, we decided to have a family & friends get together & with the upstairs room it was a absolutely ideal venue, we all had to pay a £10 deposit which is fine great food all round & good beer so this helped make it a lovely afternoon for one & all

Can only judge it on atmosphere and service as we only popped in for a drink as the last time we were here it was a burnt out wreck, it’s been well restored with many original features plus a lovely outside space. We didn’t see food service but as a St Austell pub it will be tasty pub grub no doubt.

Having read the reviews of the Fisherman’s Arms we could not resist and booked for dinner. Great atmosphere, even the quieter restaurant area upstairs. A good pint and glass of white wine with some fantastic food. Catch of the Day was lemon sole served with new potatoes and broccoli. A very full dish but the sole was so lite it was a perfect dish. The young man that served us was very attentive, very informative and of great character.

We thought we were visiting a top end restaurant so booked for special occasion. When we arrived, we were initially ignored then seated near the door. We waited 15 mins for someone to come and serve us. We took this time to choose our food. The bored manager came over and told us that the veggie curry I had ordered was sold out, as was the pork belly my husband had chosen additional they had no chips. There was only one other veggie dish which appeared to the left over Christmas option. I was unable to eat this as I am allergic to beetroot. We asked if the chef could cook anything else veggie, to be told no. Surely in a restaurant of the standard, the chef could have knocked up an omelette. We surmised that the food was all pre prepared and just heated. The manager did not seem bothered at all and said ‘stock issues’. We had to leave. Very disappointing, had better experience at Subway. I reluctantly gave one star as no stars is not an option.

First visit to this establishment, during a short break spending time with family who live locally, a very pleasant establishment, however with so many people in a small space, with a log burning fire, I was absolutely burning, I can't judge the owners for this though, as I'm someone who wears shorts and a t-shirt all year round. But even by my standards this felt excessively stuffy, and is the only reason I can't give a 5 star, I'm sure normal people won't have any issues with the climate, otherwise an all round place, I might use the outdoor seating area on my next visit if my associates are willing

Ordered 2 steaks @£28 a plate. I would have expected good quality meat at that price. The sauce was a bit watery but my main gripe was about the quality of the steak. I gave feedback to the waiter who was very polite. He offered and did deduct 20% off the bill. My main gripe is he didn't take on board my feedback and said they were having issues with the butcher. My reply was get another butcher. I love this pub and wish it well but unfortunately the consistency of providing good food and service isn't consistent. We had good service and poor food last night Previously we had good food and poor service. Twice we have had great food and great service. Would I recommend it to people? Not at the moment until they up their game. Newlyn is getting very competitive with regards to eating out. There are plenty of alternatives so it's down to customers where they choose to eat. Personally I hope this place gets it's act together. It has an amazing location and view and should be able to take advantage and become one of Cornwall's premier restaurants. . I hope all goes well for you moving forward .

The food is good albeit expensive for what it is. I made a complaint that the selection of bread was not a selection but just toasted bread! No real response from staff! Just something for management to consider, on warm nights when the bifold windows are open the smell of the smokers outside comes into the bar where we were eating… we found this really off putting!!! I can recommend the honey chipolatas on the starter menu which were delicious. The restaurant accepts dogs in the bar but they are not allowed in the main restaurant upstairs. We visit the area every year trying nice eatery venues but unfortunately this place well and truly under delivered. It all started when the food came to our table, then after some time waiting for the remainder of our meals to arrive they were taken away from us. Informing another table had ordered 'exactly' the same as us, hmmmm - there was five us, one child - exactly the same? Small apology made, then after a considerable amount of time our food came to us, which we all thought had been sat under the hot plate as it didn't seem freshly cooked. We informed the waitress about this asking to pass the message onto the duty manager and more so the expensive craw fish which was incredibly chewy. No sign of them at all as we were upstairs and suppose out of the way to make any further comment. When coming to pay, we mentioned it again at the bar and nothing was said, not even an apology but happily took the money before we headed out. Such a shame we were treated in this manner as the place is nice inside with lovely views. The staff need to care more about their customers!

Not the most inspiring building for this great position on the harbour but you come here for the food. This is beautifully cooked fresh by a chef who is clearly top of his job. The wide basic menu is supplemented by a menu of about six very special dishes. I doubt if there anywhere else as good for lunch as two other local recommended venues only start at 5.30pm. Quiet atmosphere, half way between a restaurant and a cafe, not a pub in spite of its name. We'll worth a visit.

Automatic got me goin' like Gen'ral Electric. Damn the harbour lights were blinking. I'm thinking It's was all over when I go out fishing. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, the experience was nothing short of remarkable. The service was exemplary – attentive, yet unobtrusive, and every staff member seemed genuinely dedicated to ensuring our meal was enjoyable. The atmosphere struck a perfect balance between elegance and comfort. The tasteful decor and ambient lighting created an inviting environment that enhanced our dining experience. As for the food, it was a culinary delight. The 6oz burger was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful, with every bite leaving us wanting more. But the real star of the evening was the Cajun hake accompanied by soft stem broccoli. The hake was seasoned masterfully, with the Cajun spices complementing the fish's natural flavors without overpowering them. The broccoli was a fresh, vibrant side that completed the dish beautifully. The vine selection wasn't impressive, but where selection is lacking it usually compensates in quality and the sweet Zinfandel we chose was exquisite. It paired wonderfully with our meals, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to our dining experience. In summary, this restaurant exceeded all our expectations in terms of service, atmosphere, and food quality. It's a gem that we'll be returning to and recommending to friends and family. A well-deserved five-star rating!

Excellent host. Continental breakfast. Parking. Easy access to most areas in Cornwall. Would stay again.

Stumbled across Golant following an aborted trip to Fowey. Delightful find and kudos to the chef for accommodating a difficult combination of food allergies at short notice.

5 stars for the Sunday dinner but 2 stars for the short white haired woman with glasses that works there. She was so rude and tried to use humour to hide it. When we booked and sat down, she said, “Do you want cutlery or will you eat with your hands?”. Which I didn’t know was a genuine question or not, so I awkwardly laughed and said, “Cutlery please”. She then proceeded to put down one piece of cultural each time she walked past and commented, “we’re one step closer”. Me and my parents were not amused. However, when our food came through, it was so lush. Very traditional and you can tell everything was cooked from scratch. When I was two spoonfuls away from finishing, the woman came back and asked if we were finished. I said, “Almost”, as I was seeing if my puppy would eat boiled sprouts and carrots. She then replied with, “Stop feeding your dog and finish eating then”. Extremely rude and uncalled for. We came for a quiet family holiday and this was not needed, especially for a quiet village. Please know your audience if you’re saying humorous comments as it was downright rude and insulting telling off a 30 year old woman. I guess they’re extremely keen to get their table back. Dessert wasn’t offered at all and we had to queue to get our bill. The lush food wouldn’t be enticing enough to bring us back and £10 for a pint is ridiculous. * edit - we only purchased one pint, two soft drinks and three Sunday roast dinners. I would not be coming back to this pub nor will I be recommending this establishment to anyone. It’s more likely that I will tell people to avoid this pub and the older woman with short white hair and glasses will forever be in the story I tell everyone who was passive aggressive in asking if I will be eating my Sunday roast dinner with my hands and tell a 30 year old woman off for feeding her dog.
