Visited here as it was the landing point for a canoe trip down the Wye. Very disappointed with the food. Of the four meals served both burgers had burnt brioche buns and the steak and ale pie was so dry I can only assume it was reheated from at least 2 days previous. The accompanying excess of gravy was there presumably to mask this. Similarly, the rolls served with the starter were dry and hard in the middle so I guess these were yesterday’s too. As far as service was concerned one of the waitresses was very polite and attentive; the other slopped the soup starter as she put it down on the table; no apology was forthcoming. Very little "atmosphere" apart from the loud heavy rock music for the first 20 minutes, then no background music as (I presume) the manager was conducting business on his mobile at the bar. Can't help suspecting this establishment is only surviving as, like us, customers are looking for convenient place to restock the calories after canoeing.

Four of us went for Sunday lunch and ordered beef. When it came we were missing the new potatoes. When asked where they were as they were on the menu, they brought us extra Yorkshire puddings. We asked again where the new potatoes were and they brought us roasters. We were disappointed at this as one of the party didn't like roast potatoes, so only had what was on the plate that it came out with. There was no explanation as to why they wouldn't bring us potatoes. We were very disappointed and won't be having a Sunday lunch there again.

Visited with my daughter for lunch. Wasn’t disappointed at all. View is absolutely stunning, The staff couldn’t do enough for us and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend 100%

I was looking for a pub/restaurant that did a proper vegan Sunday raost dinner around hay-on-Wye. Many places say they cater for vegans but when you get their meat eaters can have roast dinners but vegan are offered their usual vegan options. On social media Danny from The Boat Inn responded to say they do a full vegan roast dinner so I booked immediately. I had the 'No nuts' nutroast which is lovely. My partner had the beef whichh she said was lovely too. The service was fab and friendly and the location and views by the river are a huge bonus. Will definitely go back there again soon.

We visited on 14 June for lunch, on our way to our stay at Brilleys Cabins - the hosts had recommended The Boat Inn on their information of "what to do in the area" so it was high on our "must do" list. We weren't disappointed. We were bowled over by not only the view but also the incredibly warm welcome we received when we arrived. The staff were faultless and the food was delicious and came out really quickly. We unfortunately didn't receive our cheesy chips but this wasn't a problem at all, the staff were apologetic but we probably couldn't have eaten them anyway as we were stuffed ;p There is a beautiful outdoor seating area, and it would have been lovely to sit out there but the weather was really unsettled and very very windy so we sat by the window inside taking in the phenomenal view. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely be visiting again when we return to the area. Thanks guys for making our visit brilliant!

A great and tasty meal. The welcome by the Manager (Joanne..I think her name was) was very welcoming with nothing being too much trouble. The burger was very tasty and my Nepalese Chicken curry was absolutely divine. Presented beautifully and the chicken was so tender and the taste remarkable. In Hay on Wye for a few days, looking for Dog friendly pub. Came across the Boat Inn. Ordered 2 meals, steak and scampi. Absolutely fantastic service, food came with all trimmings. My steak locally sourced was tender, tasty and cooked to perfection. Locals entered into great chat, made to feel really at home and to top it all table by window looking over river Wye. Thanks to all, we will be back.

Not overly impressed with this place at all. Used to go some years ago and the food was superb. Now it’s chips chips chips mostly and it’s like a fast food restaurant and to top it all asked for a bottle of white Zinfandel and got a bottle of medium rosé sort of red wine which was disgusting but they insisted it was a Zinfandel. Clearly it wasn’t. We paid for this bottle of wine, which we. shouldn’t have done really we should’ve asked them to change it for one that suited us and was correct. Had to buy lemonade to mix with the wine to make it palatable for us. This put a damper on the evening really for us which was supposed to be a nice celebration of family getting together. Haven’t seen each other for a long time. The best dish was the barbecue crispy chicken bites which was a starter. These are really nice. Wouldn’t go again at all

Myself and 2 friends, enjoyed a evening catching up at this beautiful pub, sat outside next to the river, late evening sun was setting and sky loooked fab. Food was top notch, I had fish and chips, the chips are AMAZING big chunky and crispy!! Fish very good to. My friends both had steak and enjoyed it thoroughly. Waitress and bar man really friendly and welcoming! Have been here a few times for food now and have never been disappointed.

We had a very nice evening meal here. Fish and chips with light crisp batter and big chunky home made chips. Lamb steaks with new potatoes and veg was also good. Reasonably priced wine. Good service. Lovely Riverside location with outside seating if weather cooperates.

We stopped at this lovely pub for Sunday lunch, after a weekend away. There were 14 of us and they managed to fit us in, despite being busy. Tables overlooked the beautiful river Wye and countryside. The Sunday lunch was delicious, with plenty of meat and vegetables. Very friendly and efficient service too.

Terrible! Ive had better school dinners. Im a foodie and this food was sooooo disappointing and not cheap. I had a roast beef dinner. The beef was cheap, i assume boiled and disgusting and the Yorkshire puddings were poorly cooked oit of a packet. I was so hungry entering that pub, and it still tasted awful.

Absolutely disgusting meal ordered a steak burger which sounded very. Ice on the menu but when it came out I would call it more of a frozen burger! I did complain but their was no mention of replacing my meal, the ‘home made chips’ were more mccains home frozen! Terrible food would not recommend if was starving of food

We have been to the Boat Inn numerous times and are never disappointed. The location overlooking the river Wye is great and we like sitting either outside or at one of the tables inside by the window, depending on the weather. Watching the river go by whilst eating lunch is wonderful, for bird watchers it is great. Herons, sand martins, gold finches all types of birds put in a n appearance. As for the food, I personally rate it highly. The steak burger is fantastic, the veggie burger is excellent too. Fish and chips, really good. The deserts are good too. The choice of beer is excellent. This pub is around a 40 minute drive each way from home for us and we will happily make the journey. It is also handy as it is on the route from Hereford to Hay on Wye which we take frequently.

Stopped on off chance for a light bite and drink...good welcome...good menu...good beer(and cider) on draught...all local. Well worth a visit. Next to River Wye. Better than going into Hay!!!

This was our first visit to the Boat Inn, it won’t be the last. Fantastic setting on the river. We watched Herons, White egret, Swallows and canoeists whilst enjoying a very well kept beer and a bowl of delicious, crispy, piping hot chips. We finished off with 3 scoops of homemade ice cream to share. Pineapple, Peanut butter and Blackcurrant. Delicious! The staff were all very happy, friendly and courteous. As we were staying at Hay on Wye and wanted to go somewhere a few miles away looked on trip advisor saw it was good and decided to try The Boat Inn. we were warmly welcomed and given river view seats, we wanted just a couple of plain meals, Bacon & Liver & sausages in a Yorkshire pudding. We arrived there after canoeing and there was a big group of us (23 adults and children mixed) the staff put us in a private room and were very helpful and accommodating. The food was delicious and the service was great.
