The Bluebell Inn in Bassetlaw

Absolutely stunning. Food and service were brilliant. Booked for next week Party of 4 all had the same meal, unusual for us but wow, great choice

At the end of August I stayed three nights at the Bluebell Inn, for a peacegul stop-off on my way home to London after a holiday in Northumbria. What a beautiful village! So peaceful, picturesque and easy to explore, and I was lucky with some warm, sunny evenings, as I wandered with my tiny dog around the winding back lanes. Everyone I met was friendly. The Bluebell Inn welcomed me and my dog, and offered lots of help with finding dog-friendly places to visit and eat when their restaurant was closed. There were good, basic Continental breakfast items in my room, which was spotlessly clean, comfortable, warm and well furnished with table and chairs, chest of drawers, bedside cabinet and excellent light for reading in bed! All the staff were so helpful, and Lynn and Brian went out of their way to make sure I had all I needed. It's not easy travelling solo with health conditions but I felt extremely safe, reassured and well looked after! When the restaurant opened on my last night, I was able to eat there. What a delicious meal! Fantastic chef and thoughtful, focused menu. My sea bass was pan fried to soft perfection, and all the vegetables were cooked perfectly and full of flavour. The chocolate brownie was shockingly good, and even I couldn't finish it, which is rare. I will definitely visit again. PS I was given a secluded corner in the restaurant beause there was a pool tournament going on in the main bar. I was surrounded by books and beautiful, interesting objects. All the clientele who passed me on their way to the gents were so polite, friendly and smiley! it felt good. PPS There was an OS map of the area framed on my bedroom wall. Brilliant.

A warm welcome from Nat & the team as soon as you walk through the door. Drinks order taken quickly. Menus are changed weekly & the choice of seasonal variety is great to see. Not many local restaurants do this, so it is a nice change to see a Chef who does this. Plenty of time was given for us to make our choices and there’s no rush or pressure to get the order in, again a nice touch as it was a lovely summers evening, so you want to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Starters delivered in a timely manner and tasted amazing and really fresh. The Camembert is always a family fave so nice to see it on the menu. The Scotch egg is perfectly soft. The mushroom fondue was full of flavour & again the poached egg was squishy! The main course came in a reasonable time after we finished our starters & again all cooked perfectly. The steak was cooked as requested and (so I am told) tasted wonderfully, the ribs had obviously been cooked for hours as all of the meat, which was plentiful, fell straight off of the bone. Overall, you will not be disappointed dining here. From the service to the old style decor, which is very in keeping with the pub & the local area. The quirky “off sales”window is fabulous to see & saves the people who are sat enjoying the evening sunshine, going round to the bar as it is just by the front entrance.

Visited with my husband for a birthday celebration, food and service was amazing, the only reason ive removed 1 star is I just think it was expensive given it is an old pub, it was nearly £10 for a 20cl glass of prosecco. Would I go again most definately but for celebrations.

Our happy place! Cannot fault a thing, staff are welcoming and so efficient and the food is simply fabulous! A little village pub that serves way better than the usual “pub food” from the Sunday lunches to the weekly menu, everything is always perfect. A true little gem.

Live music . Very loud. Cracking toons!(sic) Energetic . Friendly drunken locals. Staff efficient , if somewhat favouring of local pretty boys. This meant if you approached the 'too tight' green vest wearing Rubinesque proportions ginger haired young woman behind the bar with a cheeky ' I'm interested in you' smile, you could push in & be served despite others openly & patiently waiting for service with empty glasses & money in front of them. In fact she actively told them where to stand as they had 'mistakenly' pushed into the bar staff only service area. - so she redirected them to another corner & served then first despite three other people waiting for service along the bar front. ( I hope she got lucky with him !) Maybe it's jealousy .. No, they weren't band members or staff. Didn't try the food. Can't speak to that.

Always lovely homemade food, friendly staff and cold beer! Would highly recommend.

Came again on Saturday night and food was once again amazing. We love this pub so much and never have a bad meal. I had fish cake and my partner had the Camembert to start. Then we had the full rack of ribs and Barnsley chop for main. All with a lovely bottle of wine. My eyes were far too big for my belly and I couldn’t quite eat all the ribs but my other half soon helped me out! The food was delicious as usual and service was excellent again. The waitress who is normally there on a Saturday night (Lil) I think she is called is absolutely superb. Such politeness and so efficient. The landlady is also exceptional always making us feel so welcome, remembering our names every time and what we normally like to eat and drink. We love coming to this pub and whenever we book we always look forward to it so much as we have never been disappointed!

Really appetising pub food served with humour and warm welcome

Lovely pub... with exceptional service, both friendly and efficient. Visited twice for Sunday lunch, and the quiz night on Tuesday. Staff , service and food were excellent... we would certainly visit again. Nice to receive good old-fashioned service ... something not many places provide these days.

Fantastic visit here Sunday! I'd heard great things, the pub was busy as soon as we walked in. They have a traditional tap room - which my husband loved (showing the football game) there is a pool table in there too but this was covered due to being so busy with drinkers! The restaurant is situated in the lounge, it is a quite small I think maybe only 9 or 10 tables, which explains why you should book in advance if there's a few of you - as they don't have much room. We had a few starters for the table, a scotch egg to share - which they kindly put on 2 plates to make sharing easier, lovely touch! Then we sampled pork, lamb & beef Sunday roast - we were told the beef is served pink but that's just how we like it. It was ALL delicious, each meat had its own gravy which was so tasty. We were offered more veg and gravy should we need it. 5 out of 5 for the food! The staff were so friendly, and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, our glasses never got empty. Despite them all being so busy we felt very well looked after. Can't wait to come and try the weekly changing menu!

Cracking village pub. Friendly and welcoming landlady made space for us in the bar so we could have a last minute Sunday lunch. The food was delicious. Welbeck Abbey beers on tap. Open fire. And a great bunch of locals who were happy to share their pub with us! Loved it

Absolutely lovely place to eat, fantastic food at reasonable prices, no paying through the nose. The staff are all brilliant, very attentive and welcoming and very on hand, nothing is too much trouble. The atmosphere is so relaxed, the landlady makes you feel so at home, and will make light conversation, which is so nice to see. Never ever had a bad meal, all been absolutely delicious, a credit to the chef and all the staff. Keep doing what you are doing you won't go wrong.

Love this place, fabulous food, home cooked, served with style, the staff are great, the landlady is always super friendly, professional, polite, extremely accommodating, nothing is too much trouble, can’t find fault with any part of our visit, we will certainly be regulars 😁

I’ve visited here afew times now with my family and every time we have been warmly welcomed by the landlady Natalie who was very polite and friendly and made sure we were happy and the other staff were also great. The food was top notch and couldn’t fault anything and the kids love their brownie and ice cream. We will be back again soon and highly recommend.

Lovely pub but in the wrong hands, land lady was rude and abrupt towards me and her staff in front of everyone. Beer was good and the rest of the staff very friendly

We went on Xmas day in a party of 8 plus a toddler. Food excellent Service excellent Ambience excellent. I can't find fault. Thank you Nat, Mikey and your superb Staff.

The experience from start to finish was outstanding. The attention to detail, the service and the food was phenomenal. It was our first visit here and we were made to feel very welcome. Our drinks order was taken immediately after seating and no more than five minutes later we had our order. The menu is done on a weekly basis to ensure the freshest seasonal produce is available. We had the mini camembert starter and scotch egg starter, both absolutely delicious. Once again the service was amazing from the team. The main meals were delivered to the table in quick succession and were beautifully cooked. I would highly recommend coming here and we will certainly be back!

Pub is one of the best I've been to as a seasonal professional pub goer, Staff are simply lovely and professional which creates such a friendly environment. The food is out of this world if tha wants some proper food this is the place had bangers and mash with mac and cheese and was honestly the best I've ever had, the mac and cheese is to die for would travel hours for it. 10/10 would recommend 👌

Had a wonderful meal at the Bluebell yesterday evening. Shared a couple of mini camemberts with crusty bread and sweet chilli jam. Two of us chose the Lamb demi pie which was a work of art. Demi apparently as its a lamb shank that's cooked slowly and then the meat is mixed with herbs and reformed around the lamb shank bone and wrapped in strips of delightful pastry. Absolute knockout! Beautifully cooked vegetables and a delightful sauce. Great friendly service too. Well done to all the team.

The service was first class. The food was excellent. We stayed in the campsite to the rear of the pub all in a lovely setting

The Blubell is a proper local pub with four lovely well-equipped rooms to stay. We often stay here when visiting family in the local area. The rooms are spacious and clean with everything provided, including tea and coffee, a pint of milk in your own fridge, and a continental breakfast. There is excellent homemade food available in the pub (but you need to remember to book in advance) and it's a great place for an evening with a pint, chatting to the very friendly staff and locals. The dominos board might even make an appearance. Recommended 100%

Sunday roast at the Bluebell Lound. Disappointing for the price - £15.95 The pork was tough, appeared to be from a cheap pork roll - not a fresh joint The mixed veg was frozen & hard , should have boiled longer. , not edible like under cooked veg is.

Absolutely fantastic food and great staff too. We have now enjoyed many lovely Sunday roasts since first discovering Bluebell Inn and the food is consistently really nice. We would recommend to anyone and everyone, as a must try location so add it to the list. We will back for many more Sunday roasts and are looking forward to trying the other dishes you offer in the week as well as trying to make one of your special events. A quick FYI, I think the menus changes often, so that is why there isn't one online.

Fantastic food and room .friendly staff

Smashing country pub set in an ideal location. The menu changes every Wednesday but the 'constant' sandwich menu was excellent. The staff were very pleasant and attentive and the Saturday lunchtime atmosphere was very friendly. Definitely added to my 'Visit Again' list.

Went for a Sunday after been told how good it was, I wasn't disappointed. Definitely will be making more trips and Great friendly staff,

Great customer service. Guinness is A1. Keeps traditional values with a tap/sports room with pool table, next door is a lounge which is lovely and serves superb meals!

What a great experience. In a country where poor service and bad food is almost accepted, here we had the opposite. A great welcome. Friendly, efficient service. High quality, perfectly seasoned and well-executed food, reasonable prices and a lovely atmosphere. Really, really genuinely good. Well done to the team there. A must visit if you like such good stuff.

Fab meal last night. 2 calamari which where gluten free and lovely, 2 braised beef cheek , again gluten free, 1 beef stroganoff pie and1 fillet steak + a side of onion rings + 1 sticky toffee pudding. All absolutely lovely. Again the onion rings and sticky toffee pudding where done gluten free. The landy said why not do them gluten free when they taste just as good. Highly recommended. Will be back.

If you haven't eaten here yet you're seriously missing out... I had the chorizo cocktail sausage starter with a bacon mayonnaise I would happily have swam in and my partner had the apple and parsnip soup which was amazing. Main course was rib eye for me cooked to perfection and liver for the bloke...again just outstanding in terms of taste, quality of ingredients and presentation...too full for pudding unfortunately. Lovely friendly service and a great choice of drinks make this a must for anyone looking for a great night out...thanks Nat and team...be seeing you soon 😘

Proper pub in a quiet village. They have 4 rooms that operate as a B&B. The rooms are high quality clean, private and can be accessed at all times so not disturbing or being disturbed. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. Great selection of real ale and Gin and tonics and a good wine list which brings us to the restaurant. You would, at first glance think this is regular pub grub. Do not be fooled. The food is outstanding both in terms of the preparation and presentation. Best chicken Caesar I have ever had. Home made croutons and the chicken cooked perfectly not dry and tasteless which is often the case. The sea trout was also first rate. (We share). The taurine was so good we should have had two instead of sharing the starter.

Roasties were abit over cooked and too crunch but overall was a great meal and the chocolate fudge cake was extremely amazing

Very nice little country pub with friendly staff. Food is good aswell. Its a small pub with a big heart. Very good outdoor area and can take dogs there too.

Very good beers and friendly staff, made to feel very welcome and a relaxed atmosphere to drink in. The pub is clean and well maintained and is everything a country pub should be. They also have a very nice beer garden including a covered patio area so you still have a drink outside with getting too hot or too wet.

Had a wonderful meal here great food and lovely staff. I had the steak and stilton salad. The steak was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend

We had a wonderful stay for three nights in a pleasant modern room. Our hosts were welcoming, helpful, and friendly. The bed was very comfortable, and the in-room continental breakfast excellent. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner at the pub (amazing steak and pork ribs) and look forward to our next visit.

Just been here for Sunday lunch, the food was amazing, and such a friendly place. Can’t recommend this place highly enough.

This a great place for good food, good beer and good banter. All the staff are attentive and well mannered. The service is just the right pace so you don't get over whelmed. All in all a great eating experience. The menu changes weekly so there is something different and exciting to try.

Amazing place to eat! We have eaten here a few times over the past few weeks, I had a steak sandwich which is served on a Saturday afternoon which was delicious, we will definitely be going back for one. We then had a Sunday roast which was one of the best Sunday roasts we have ever had! The staff are very friendly, and accommodating, nothing is too much trouble. Last minute we phoned to change a table booking of 5 to a table of 7 which we knew was a push but it was no trouble at all. Also a great place to have a drink and a game of pool. We have told so many friends and work colleagues about this pub, we can’t recommend this pub enough!

Friendly staff, very clean rooms, well worth a visit/stay, real pub.

This place has recently been taken over, which is not always a good thing. Before the takeover the pub, food and campsite were excellent (particularly the food). We were a little anxious when we booked in for food and camping last night, however we had no need to worry, the staff were very polite, professional and humorous (especially the landlady, Natalie). The food was superb. Good portions, cooked fresh and served piping hot and arrived really quickly. This is still possibly our favourite place to dine and camp over. Thanks so much. We will be back again soon.
