Had a lovely roast here! They were excellent at catering for vegan & gluten free guests. All the staff were really friendly and helpful.

Ate here recently, lunch from the Christmas menu. Dining room very nicely presented, great service, very nice food....all very quiet and calm despite most tables being full. Will be back!

Always top notch food and service. Great themed nights every so often. Recent family funeral at the Markham moor was the best selection of food for a funeral we have ever seen. Everyone in attendance was raving about the quality. Plenty of parking. Bar area for none formal dining and drinks.

We went last Wednesday (23rd October) for lunch, on their website it said it would be open and in fact when we arrived it was clearly closed, indeed another vehicle came and saw it closed and left, a little disappointed as we travelled from Newark area. We have been a number of times and it has always been wonderful but if you are going to close on a certain day you really need to put it on the website to save unnecessary disappointment!

Easily Accessible from the A1 at Markham Moor. Ample parking outside. Level ( Disabled) access to interior. Clean, well lit modern interior. Excellent service. Well trained staff. Friendly & happy in their work. Food was well cooked ,very well presented & reasonable value. Recommended. Definitely will return .. Cannot speak to rooms, only went here to eat.

Went for sunday lunch last weekend, absolutely delicious! Complimentary homemade bread with flavoured butter, great choice of starters and mains and very generous portions. Everything was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Coffee came with homemade fudge! Staff were friendly and chatty, I really can't fault this place and can't wait to return.

Went for sunday lunch....if only my own roast dinners were this good. Gorgeous veg (some of which they grow themselves apparently) and tender juicy beef, mash and roast potatoes, it was amazing. My mum had the roast pork which she said was really good too. Lovely starters and puddings. Staff were friendly and chatty and service was excellent. I also had the best margerita I've ever had...yum yum yum.

No idea why people rave about this place at all. Had Sunday lunch earlier today, and I have to say was MASSIVELY OVER PRICED, for very poor quality food made extremely blandly, along with TINY portions and was like stepping back in time. Silver service for a pub??, really? And who puts cherry tomatoes with a Sunday roast??, might as well have opted for a cheese and tomato sandwich!! £60 NOT well spent!!

Stopped by for a drink the other day. Ordered a pint of cider and a single gin with tonic (no ice or lemon available). The cost? £13. Two drinks. £13. We won't be going there again in a hurry.

This place is becoming a regular pilgrimage for us. We had the full works and everything was beautifully presented and tasty. I have not gone into details as I have on previous reviews but rest assured you won't be dissappointed. Service was excellent without being overbearing. It's not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. If you want cheap go to McDonald's across the roundabout. Well done again Markham Moor and all your staff.

Went here last night for a birthday meal and it is such a treat. The service is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. As for the food, evert single bite was yummy, the menu was well thought out, excellent quality and portion sizes just right. Everything is just quietly elegant and quality. It's more than 'jeans and a nice top' - although that would be fine - It's a proper, beautiful restaurant not a pub with delusions of grandeur. Can't fault it.

What a pleasant surprise to find this lovely restaurant on our recent trip to Newark. The friendly staff were very highly trained, and the A La Cart meal was delicious. I started with the Venison Kofta in an Apricot Sauce - cooked to perfection, followed by the Pork Marbella with Prunes, Capers & Broccoli and finishing with a White Chocolate Custard Tart. The service was perfect, without being overly attentive. We would thoroughly recommend that you visit this Restaurant for a wonderful dining experience!

This restaurant is consistently superb and my favourite for miles. The decor is warm and comfortable with plenty of room for pre dinner drinks. The tables are beautifully set with oil burners and crisp white linen cloths. The menu is absolutely inspiring, Each dish is expertly presented, bursting with rich flavours and fabulous textures. You will always find a warm welcome from all the staff who will provide you with the best service you will experience in miles. I would highly recommend a visit

A friend purchased the 5 course dining experience for myself and my wife some time ago. Unfortunately the Markham Moor Inn refused to honour it, as it was purchased more than 12 months ago. They said it was due to tax reasons. Poor excuse in my opinion. £100 wasted.

Place seemed pretty dead and I only called in to charge my EV as they have a fast BP Pulse charger. Unfortunately, second time around, it would not charge my vehicle. Should point out that was a vehicle fault and nothing to do with the charger.

Absolutely Fantastic. Visited on Saturday evening with friends to the Japanese tasting menu… WOW the food was stunning. All 6 courses were delicious. Especially desert- the chocolate ganache is something else. Highly recommend the themed evenings, can’t wait to bring my friends again and try the Italian tasting menu. Super accommodating, one of the guests in my party had a seafood allergy and they ensured my friend had alternative options. He loved the duck on the first course. Staff were brilliant and so friendly, we were never without a drink, couldn’t ask for a better service. Can’t wait to be back AGAIN!!

Don't be deceived by the slightly random external appearance! We enjoyed a super lunch here - a good choice of dishes, well executed with quality ingredients - and first class, friendly and faultless service. If we lived a little closer, it would definitely be a regular haunt and will certainly be aiming to call again any time we are travelling along the A1.

Have been for a drink a couple of times & was never aware that they had a dining room that served food. Staff member with bow tie was pretty strange but other than that the service & food was quality, will definitely be visiting in near future.

A rather strange place. Doesn’t match up to the reviews read on here. Very dated & expensive for the venue! Service was ok, we only had the guy behind the bar who seemed to be very busy/slow & a bit abrupt but pleasant. Food was good I’ll give it that, pizza was huge & homemade. Annoying how a lager shandy is the same price as a normal pint. Lager shandy £6.25!!!! 3 stars, wouldn’t rush back 👍🏼

Really warm welcome on a wet and chilly evening. Was there for Father in Laws 80th birthday. We arrived early but made very welcome and put near a raaring fire in the bar. Moved to lounge area when others arrived and then into dining restaurant. Served excellent food with a nice ala Carte twist to all the courses. All was very well presented and cooked with some more unusual dishes which added to the occasion. Would highly recommend as a venue for that special occasion meal!

As always, both the food and the service here really could not be faulted. We were there for a family dinner after an unfortunate event, and the staff all treat us as if we were part of their family. If you want some of the best quality food with exceptional service, I would recommend you give the Markham Moor a try.

Nice food clean reasonable price

My partner booked a weekend package for an early valentines treat and we were honestly both blown away. We arrived on the Saturday evening and were greeted and shown to our room and asked what time we wanted dinner in the morning.We were in room one and the room was spacious and clean, the bathroom a little dated but still good. We had a dinner reservation for 7 but came down a little before to have a drink before. We had some really lovely cocktails and were shown the dinner menu. A bottle of wine was included in the package and the server took us through our options. We were then taken to our table where our bottle was waiting for us. And then we had the most amazing three courses, the service was top notch and the food outstanding. Honestly couldn’t fault anything. After we’d settled the bill we were told where breakfast would be. Can’t deny it was lovely to walk 30 seconds to our room afterwards. In the morning we had our breakfast which was a full English breakfast with tea and juice. What an absolute gem of a place. We’ve already spoken about coming back later in the year.

We went for tea last night .. staff very attentive and friendly ..nothing was too much trouble...food was lovely and had been cooked to order....relaxing atmosphere...very clean and modern...a proper fire which was nice to see especially on cold nights...really enjoyed the experience there ...Will definitely go again. I love this place. Only a few miles out of Retford. It’s always so lovely. The place is so comfortable and welcoming. It really is fine dining. Food is excellent and service impeccable. Throughly recommend.

We met with our friends at Markahm Moore Inn as a half way point . Second visit . Excellent Christmas lunch , especilly tasy gluten free options.... Service amazing .... What more can I say except we will be back again ... Happy Christmas to all the staff...

Can't fault it. Our third visit and food excellent, staff so friendly and helpful. We booked for "pub menu" this time but no problem mixing between Pub Menu and A La Carte. Pub menu prices little more than average pub but food so much better. See you soon.

August 2023 update - nothing has changed much -still excellent food and really good service ! Rooms are good here - quiet and clean and a good price - breakfast is included in the price and is a good breakfast . It's the restaurant that is the main attraction here - the food is superb - really good service comes with it ! We travel for two and a half hours to get here for the night - never been disappointed with the food in all the times I've been ! 2022 update I am very happy to report that absolutely nothing has changed -room's ate good - food still sublime. Evening menu was 2 courses £44 -3 courses are £50 ,you get pre pudding ,pre starter and breads inc with the the 3 course option . Breakfast is still good, too.

We visited for Sunday lunch on 6th Aug and had a lovely time. We received a very warm welcome from the staff. Food was delicious and fresh. The on-site veggie patch obviously obliged us that day. We will be back. Highly recommend

My family and I stayed here for two nights to attend a wedding very near by. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was absolutely superb. Special mention to the really nice guy who dropped us to the wedding venue when we couldn't get a taxi and to the lovely lady who served our breakfast. The dining room had a great ambience in the evening - no wonder the themed taster evenings are popular. If we lived nearer, this place would be a favourite.

We were making our way back to our holiday stay and came across this lovely Inn. Tables were laid with crisp and clean tablecloths and fresh flowers. Staff were all very helpful and served you with great positivity but weren't intrusive at all. The food is beautifully cooked and presented - we both enjoyed every mouthful and morsel of our starters and main courses. There was no need for a dessert but the choices there were very good as well. We both sent our compliments to the chefs! Thoroughly recommended to everyone.

We stopped at this pub to charge the car and had the best time! It's very convenient for a pit-stop off the A1 where it meets the A57. I would definitely recommend; the service was super friendly & welcoming to children, the food quick, and when it arrived was fresh and delicious! Honestly, even the chips and onion rings had clearly been freshly chopped and fried, they were a revelation! A bit of a gem.

This is our second visit in 4 weeks. After our previous fine dining experience we thought we would "Slum it a bit" and go with the pub menu. I am of course being waggish. Just can't fault it. Great service, great food. It is not even expensive compared with other pub food that simply doesn't come up to the same standard. Thank you.

As a previous reviewer has stated, don't be fooled by the location. It is not the most glamorous location or looking pub from the outside but it is the food cooked inside that matters. We went for the 7 course fine dining and what a great treat it was. The greeting was friendly and the service was impeccable throughout the evening. Our server super friendly and a lovely smile. I was really looking forward to going having heard good things about Markham Moor Inn. Often as a result, we set out expectations too high and are disappointed. Not so in this case, exceeded. We couldn't fault anything. The presentation of the food was excellent for every course on piping hot dishes where appropriate. Even the napkins were all folded differently for that quality vibe. As for the food it was so tasty and some unusual dishes that enhances the fine dining experience. If I were to pick one item that shone it was the monk fish wrapped in pancetta. It was outstanding. I don't want to go over every course but rest assured everything is done to a lovely standard. Well done the chef. We will definitely be back

Chose this restaurant solely because it was halfway between myself and my friends I was meeting. Unassuming building but my goodness, what a find. Went for lunch and enjoyed three delicious courses. Have not seen a better dessert menu anywhere ( and I usually skip dessert!) Will be back, was well worth the 180 mile round trip! Thank you Markham Moor Inn.

Stayed at Markham Moor Inn on Saturday 27th May for one night, as we were attending a wedding close by. Absolute first class service! The staff were extremely friendly, nothing was too much trouble and they went above and beyond. Would highly recommend

Another amazing meal with superb choices friendly staff lovely atmosphere. Puddings all sounded so nice we couldn’t choose so we had one of each and oh my goodness what a treat they were all absolutely amazing and went down really well. Would highly recommend coming here for any occasion and sampling the delicious menu.

Don't be deceived by the location of this place, close to the A1 and next to an agricultural machinery depot. We stayed over for a night and chose the fine dining option. I can honestly say it was the best food we've eaten in a restaurant in many years. Very creative and amazing flavours and of course the presentation was excellent. Extremely talented chefs in this gem of a hotel. The service was also superb and couldn't have been friendlier. It's great when things work out way above your expectations!

The food at Markham is out of this world, from the way it tastes to how it’s presented. The service is amazing and everyone is always so attentive, really feel like my family is well looked after here. Cannot fault, I would recommend this restaurant to everybody. Can’t wait to be back for the dark chocolate tart- it’s a must, in fact the best dessert I’ve ever had! DELICIOUS 10/10

My Husband and |I have visited Markham Moor Inn on many occasions both with Friends/Relatives and also to Celebrate Our Wedding Anniversaries, and the occasional Birthday. It is a special place for us. The service is excellent,the staff friendly and always make you feel welcome and the food is so different and beautifully cooked and presented. Their standards never changes. A place I would certainly visit again and again.

Once entering this dated establishment by the corner door near the car park , my first thought was dated and uncomfortable , however I was on the end of a 10ht shift and meeting two friends who were already there! So the poor review wasn’t because the boring decor, I ordered a pint of Guinness and it cost £6.50! I think because this place calls itself a fine dinning place to eat! no one wearing a tux on the near empty fine dinning part of this place, Over priced , location is great if ur having an affair or want somewhere quiet an no where comfy to sit , just expect to pay stupid prices ,

Found via Google when travelling down the A1. Unbelievable food and such friendly service - my four food allergies did not phase them at it - in fact they gave me so many options of meals they could adapt for me, I was spoilt for choice - believe me that never happens! They said they could make gluten free batter for fish and chips, they could make me a beetroot & feta burger without breadcrumbs etc. I chose the latter and it was delicious as was the accompanying salad and fresh chips. We will look to arranging our many trips to see parents to take in meals in this pub.

We enjoyed a wonderful Mother’s Day meal yesterday, each course was beautifully presented, we love the attention to detail, compliments to the chef and kitchen staff. We stayed at the Markham Moor Inn for two nights with our wedding party at the married at the nearby Pheasantry Brewery. We were able to block book accommodation and organise meals together for our large group. The rooms were perfect for our needs, very clean and spacious. The food was delicious, and we were particularly grateful to be able to take advantage of the wonderful a la carte menu the night before our wedding. Breakfast was plentiful and varied, with fantastic service from start to finish. Thanks to all at the Markham Moor Inn for playing such an important part in the success of our wedding day.

Went Boxing Day with friends Everything was just lovely Cosy, modern, warm and welcoming. Staff very friendly and chatty. (Actually knew one lady. ) Drinks good quality. Excellent food. Visited with a friend for my birthday. The food was superb and the service excellent. The very petty young waitress when asked said it was only her second week and she had not worked in a restaurant before but she was friendly, professional and you would not have known this , well done to her and the management for training her.

I visited with my friend for her belated birthday dinner We have not been for almost 2yrs because of Covid but will certainly be going back to celebrate my own birthday in a few weeks time. The service was first class and the food was fabulous, the best meal l have had since l stayed at the Ritz 3yrs ago which had only been superseded by L’Enclume a 2 star Michelin restaurant in the Lake District. When I first saw the menu I thought it looked expensive but the flavours and quality made it worth every penny. Congratulations to the chefs and thank you to the waiting staff. On a long journey from Norfolk to Teeside, this inn was a perfect stopping off point next to the A1. The food was delicious and the service excellent.
