Food slightly over priced for the quality, but my biggest gripe is the extortionate prices they charge for drinks. How can they warrant charging nearly £7 for a pint of peroni and nearly £5 for a bacardi, that means they are getting about £130.00 for a £20 bottle, total rip off, would never go again

Stopping at the nearby Premier Inn, the Blue Boar is just a stones throw away. Perfect for a drink or two and/or food. We booked a table in advance for 4 adults online which was straight forward and did not require a deposit. Upon arrival, we we shown to the dining area located beyond the bar. We were presented with menus and our drinks order was taken. The choice of meals on the menu is vast and there is something for everyone. The prices are reasonable given the quality of the food available (none of this ready made microwave meals!). Food was served promptly following the order. Staff were incredibly friendly and more than happy to help with any questions we had about the menu. The only downside for me would be the lack of drinks menus on the tables in the dining area. As this is set away from the bar, it would be useful for a simple list of drinks on tap and soft drinks which are available. I wish I lived closer, this would be my go to spot weekly!

Fantastic lunch, served to us by Jenny who was a fabulous waitress. Between us we had fish and chips and the roast pork belly, both of which were delicious. The batter on the fish was lovely, thin and crisp. The pork belly and all the accompaniments were well Cooked and full of flavour. And all reasonably priced. A great place and definitely recommended!

Lovely old pub in the centre of Chipping Norton, very friendly and efficient staff. There was a good choice on the menu and our food was tasty. The only slight criticism was that my dish (duck cassoulet) could have been hotter. I would definitely return though.

Sunday lunch on a beautiful day. Booked online greeted with a very warm welcome seated quickly with a nice chilled bottle of water as you browse the great menu. Drinks orders take followed by food orders. The service was real quick. The staff were great had time to explain anything you needed to ask and just for a general chat. Brilliant service. Great setting.

A Wonderful Sunday Lunch at The Blue Boar I recently dined at The Blue Boar in the Cotswolds with my son, who visited from South Africa. He was eager to experience a traditional English Sunday lunch, and this pub truly delivered! The atmosphere was cosy and warm, capturing the charm of an old-world English pub with its rustic decor and crackling fireplace. We enjoyed the various roast dinner, which was exceptional—tender meat, perfectly roasted vegetables, and rich gravy. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to our memorable experience. If you’re looking for an authentic pub experience in the Cotswolds, The Blue Boar is a must-visit!

This is a nice old pub. Four of us went for lunch on a quiet Wednesday in early February. We only wanted a light lunch so two of us had whitebait from the starter menu, one had parsnip soup and the fourth had a fish finger brioche roll. The first choice of one of us would have been chicken liver parfait, which was not available. The brioche roll came with a rocket garnish but it was not possible to replace the rocket with a few alternative salad leaves, which seemed strange. Everyone enjoyed their food and the guy behind the bar and the waitress were both helpful and pleasant. Just a shame about the parfait and the inability to be more flexible about the side salad.

Very disappointed with the service we received today. I went with my mum and dad (handicapped) to have a nice dinner at 7:30pm and we were told that the food service was already finished and they were only doing drinks until 10pm. If I could give it less than one star I would. When we arrived we were told off for arriving at the time of our reservation because everyone else also arrived on time and we weren't allowed to order for another 30 minuets. We were then served freezing food that was sent back and microwaved - this was admitted when questioned. The other meals were not as on menu. Only one meal was deducted from bill. The waitress who was nice was treated horribly by other staff and was close to tears the whole time. Other customers also told us they were unhappy. Toilets were absolute filthy. Avoid like the plague.

Came for a new years day lunch and the food was lovely. I had to take a star off because as nice as the staff were, we felt pretty ignored. We sat in the garden room and were given table service. Me and my partner both had the beef roast dinner which was lovely. However, the staffs attitude really ruined the evening for us. We asked to move tables as we had been sat next to a very busy table with hardly any room between us. The host of the evening was rather arrogant and told us because we were walks in they couldn’t move us. However, when my partner explained that we had booked, his attitude changed and he said ‘let me see what I can do’. Not quite sure why this should make a difference on how customers are treated? The bar staff seemed miserable, not even a hello when we entered. We weren’t checked on our entire meal despite staff stood around / walking past our table not doing anything. When my partner asked if we were to leave and eat elsewhere due to their lack of customer service, they couldn’t give him a definite answer of wether we would be charged the £20 deposit that is paid when booking a table. We were extremely disappointed and quite frankly wished we had spent our money elsewhere.

Very nice place - food very good rather than exceptional but pub food not fine dining. Portions good size and no complaints. Stables was a great area for a large group. If I lived in Chipping Norton I could easily see this being my local - cosy and comfortable at the front, bigger as you move back through what is a very big pub. Parking not ideal although a big carpark about 4 minutes away by foot. Not a reason not to go but I would suggest that you put New Street parking in the satnav rather than being disorganised(or as we call it going with the flow)

Whilst the service was good we felt the meals were overpriced, especially the starters which were very small for £9. The poached pear starter was ice cold sitting on a hot plate with a side salad of lettuce and pine nuts. The sausages in the ‘sausage and mash’ dishes had clearly been reheated and the skins dry and in some cases inedible. The burger with trimmings turned out to be a stacked burger bun with fries in a tin pot. The pub itself has charm but the gents toilets are disgraceful with badly damaged flooring (floor tiles stacked under the urinals), broken taps, no paper towels, and plaster coming off the walls. We were there three weeks ago for a family celebration and the toilets were exactly the same then. At the early December family meal for 10 people, all had the pre-ordered Christmas menu but the meals were served lukewarm and on cold plates. My wife had pre-ordered turkey only to be told they had run out so she had to have chicken. Both meals charged a 12.5% service charge which, though optional, was added at point of payment. As hosts on both occasions we did not want to make a fuss about the meals and paid. It was however wholly undeserved. Our experience in early December (8th) was so poor that we would have cancelled the meal for the 26th but we couldn’t find an alternative at this late stage. Overall a very, very disappointing experience. Though local, we hadn’t been for a couple of years and previous experiences had been good, and needed somewhere that could accommodate our numbers at a busy time of the year. This seemed the place to go. We will not be returning

Great food, helpful staff - particularly the Romanian waitress - good atmosphere .. the place was buzzing. My starter of figs and chicory was tasty and my husband’s pie was hot and enjoyable. Hot plate - well done! So good to get gravy in a jug WITH A HANDLE unlike so many trendy pubs serving hot sauces in handleless jugs 🤔. The only downside was the ice cream dessert , two boules in a bowl, no attempt to make it more exciting, a wafer perhaps or a fancy glass?

Our family visits the Blue Boar annually after attending the panto, making it a cherished tradition. In the past, we've always enjoyed excellent service and delicious food, which I've acknowledged in previous reviews. Unfortunately, this visit fell short of our expectations. We were seated at a table in the far end of the back room, near the entrance door, instead of our usual spot by the Christmas tree in the front room. This location was cold and drafty. We requested the heating be turned on, but it was turned off again shortly after. By the time our food arrived, we decided against moving to a different table. While the food remained excellent, the service was disappointing. After finishing our meal, it took 20 minutes for someone to clear our table, despite our attempts to get the staff's attention. Once the plates were finally removed, we had to wait again for a dessert menu. My young son eventually went to the bar to request one. After another 15 minutes without anyone coming to take our dessert order, we returned to the bar to place it ourselves. Throughout our meal, staff members frequently entered and exited the kitchen, yet none seemed to notice or check on patrons in our section. I shared this feedback when paying the bill, as no staff member approached our table for payment, and we had to do so on our way out. I wanted to provide more detailed feedback here. Overall, while the food remained excellent, I trust the service will improve during our next visit. We will definitely request a different table when making our reservation to ensure a more comfortable experience. Thank you.

Family get together as it’s half way between where we live. The food was poor. The starter of bread and olives was interesting… the bread was soft but dipping pot was pure olive oil which was disgusting… if it had been served with butter and /or balsamic would of been more palatable. The haddock and chips arrived with cold mushy peas an awful tasting curry sauce. The burger was dry and lacking flavour, a fast food restaurant would be a better option. The service was so slow that after we finished (and waited 20 minutes) we jokingly signalled the CCTV to clear the table. We also waited 15 minutes for drinks… it wasn’t busy. The desert menu was disappointing, a table of 6 with different tastes could not find a desert that they liked. I have been here before (on a Sunday) my advice would be give it a miss! Slow service, bad food and totally over priced!

We booked to have dinner here on a Wednesday evening. The food was lovely and cannot fault but the chef was seemed to be rather grumpy. They wouldn’t do a sauce for my husband to have with his nearly £40 steak, it only came with chips so would have been a bit dry. He needed up ordering the cod but then a few minutes later (literally minutes!) he changed his mind and the chef wouldn’t let him change as said he’d already started. The service just let it down for us considering the money we spent! Side note: My little girl had the pasta off the children’s menu which was just penne paste swimming in what seemed to be like a tin of tomatoes with some grated cheese on, she didn’t eat it!

4 of us ate at the pub. We ordered 2 soups, 2 steaks, 2 sticky toffee puddings and 2 crumbles. The soups were nice. The steaks were poor value for the price and wasn’t very hot when served to us. We felt the steak meal needs more trimmings, it’s served with 4 vine tomatoes, a bit of rocket salad and fries. If it was served with peas and mushrooms, you’d feel the value for money was better. The sticky toffee pudding and crumbles were nice. Service at the pub was very slow. We felt a bit forgotten about. When given the menu, we were left for a long time before ordering. Especially when we were given the dessert menu, we waited so long my mother in law had to go to the bar to put our order in and remind them we were waiting to order. Was a real shame as we love this pub but the roast dinner was pretty poor this time. 2 roast potatoes each and the chicken was dry. Limited gravy and the cauliflower cheese was lacking cheese which is pretty key to the dish. There was an issue with the toilets also being out of use, which is of course unfortunate and not necessarily someone's fault, but we were told 'You need to move now cause of the plumber.' Having just been sat by the waiter, I am sure there could have been a better way of phrasing that we had to be reseated. I also had to go back to the original table to get our drinks. After this, a really friendly waitress did come across and apologise but overall it was a pretty rushed experience and my wife had a really bad stomach afterwards and it was all she had eaten all day. Hopefully just a one off as it is a great pub.

Pre booked Sunday lunch prior to mini break after reading reviews. Seated promptly in a lovely dining area. Lunch was lovely and we were served super quickly. Could have done with being slightly warmer but fine, we could have asked for it to be reheated should we have wanted. Minor comment, during our meal none of the staff enquired whether the food was okay or offered extra drinks and we had to find them to ask for extra gravy. Hence knocked a star off. With it being a busy Saturday evening I thought we'd be out of luck but the lovely staff sorted us a table. £70 for 2 adult main meals, a kids meal, 2 desserts, a scoop of ice cream and 3 soft drinks is a little pricey but that's just the norm these days so going here is a treat rather than a regular thing.

This is a lovely pub with fantastic food. DOG FRIENDLY!! The outside is deceiving, as it appears small outside but once you go inside there seems to be space and seating area throughout. The atmosphere was great, typical British pub with friendly greetings, excellent customer service and friendly customers. The food itself was incredible. The menu is basic, but don’t take that as a negative, after all it’s a pub and doesn’t need to be complicated. With that being said, the food is amazing, hot, fresh and delicious. I purchased the burger on our visit and wow, cooked to perfection, portion size is generous and quality is undoubted the best I’ve had in any pub. I have read previous reviews and not sure why someone has mentioned no option for a tab as there certainly is. That being said, given the area of country I frequent I would suggest best practice for any business is for customers to pay in advance. Parking can be difficult but fortunately there is a free council car park near by. Yeah you read right, free and council in the same sentence, what!?!? In any case, comments again about parking, this is an old historic town, built way before modern cars, so it will be hit and miss. This will definitely be on our list of places to visit on our next visit to the Cotswold! Thank you, keep it up!

We were leaving Burford after shopping and stumbled upon this place on our way out. My friend and I really liked it. The menu was not what we were expecting. Very much to my friends liking. Lovely little pub with outdoor area. Great teas served with special touch of coconut ice and Turkish delight made by the chef.. Great food. I liked that there was no skin on my fish which was beautifully cooked.and all food piping hot. I ordered bread and butter and was served a great little cob loaf with loads of butter. My portion of chips and peas were way too much though. My friend had burger meal without bun and really enjoyed it. He was very impressed and this man loves good food. The cappuccino was the best I’ve had anywhere, nice and hot which they never seem to be anywhere. The young servers work hard, non stop on the go and very pleasant.

Really good food, quite different starters from most pubs, more like a tapas bar. Main course very good.
