Family get together as it’s half way between where we live. The food was poor. The starter of bread and olives was interesting… the bread was soft but dipping pot was pure olive oil which was disgusting… if it had been served with butter and /or balsamic would of been more palatable. The haddock and chips arrived with cold mushy peas an awful tasting curry sauce. The burger was dry and lacking flavour, a fast food restaurant would be a better option. The service was so slow that after we finished (and waited 20 minutes) we jokingly signalled the CCTV to clear the table. We also waited 15 minutes for drinks… it wasn’t busy. The desert menu was disappointing, a table of 6 with different tastes could not find a desert that they liked. I have been here before (on a Sunday) my advice would be give it a miss! Slow service, bad food and totally over priced!

Such a friendly, lovely and accommodating pub. There was a small mix up with our table booking time the staff couldn’t have been more helpful, sorting out another table for us and giving us a free drink for the misunderstanding. Food was fantastic, every dish looked lovely and the quality and quantity was perfect. We visited every pub whilst in Chipping and although I can’t complain about any of them, the Blue Boar was definitely our favourite ❤️

4 of us ate at the pub. We ordered 2 soups, 2 steaks, 2 sticky toffee puddings and 2 crumbles. The soups were nice. The steaks were poor value for the price and wasn’t very hot when served to us. We felt the steak meal needs more trimmings, it’s served with 4 vine tomatoes, a bit of rocket salad and fries. If it was served with peas and mushrooms, you’d feel the value for money was better. The sticky toffee pudding and crumbles were nice. Service at the pub was very slow. We felt a bit forgotten about. When given the menu, we were left for a long time before ordering. Especially when we were given the dessert menu, we waited so long my mother in law had to go to the bar to put our order in and remind them we were waiting to order. The pub does have a nice friendly atmosphere.

We stopped in here after this place was recommended by our hotel. The lady that treated us made us feel like we were an inconvenience because we didn’t have a reservation. When we asked for a suggestion on the the beer in tap she didn’t know anything about them. My husband ordered the ribeye steak medium rare and it came over cooked and really thin not worth the price. Honestly wouldn’t recommend this place.

I visited the Blue Boar for a catch up lunch with a work colleague on Friday lunch time. The service was very attentive. There was a good selection on the menu including some lunch sandwiches. I had the beef burger which was excellent, a very high quality beef patty. The chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice cream was also very rich and smooth. I would certainly recommend the Blue Boar.

Visited on a Sunday. Ordered a Sunday roast (beef) and Trout. Roast was ok, trout salad extremely bland (left it), fish was cooked nicely. Fish skin was soggy (shame). Had smoked mackerel and ham hockey starters. Ham hock was a massive portion, tasted nice but something was missing. Smoked mackerel was good. Price reasonable $65 for the 4 dishes. Wouldn't rush back

Was a real shame as we love this pub but the roast dinner was pretty poor this time. 2 roast potatoes each and the chicken was dry. Limited gravy and the cauliflower cheese was lacking cheese which is pretty key to the dish. There was an issue with the toilets also being out of use, which is of course unfortunate and not necessarily someone's fault, but we were told 'You need to move now cause of the plumber.' Having just been sat by the waiter, I am sure there could have been a better way of phrasing that we had to be reseated. I also had to go back to the original table to get our drinks. After this, a really friendly waitress did come across and apologise but overall it was a pretty rushed experience and my wife had a really bad stomach afterwards and it was all she had eaten all day. Hopefully just a one off as it is a great pub.

Couples weekend. Visited on Saturday for drinks, super pretty pub inside and outside. Sat out the front - what a sun trap! Lots of locals, they were super friendly. Pre booked Sunday lunch prior to mini break after reading reviews. Seated promptly in a lovely dining area. Lunch was lovely and we were served super quickly. Could have done with being slightly warmer but fine, we could have asked for it to be reheated should we have wanted. Minor comment, during our meal none of the staff enquired whether the food was okay or offered extra drinks and we had to find them to ask for extra gravy. Hence knocked a star off. Overall a good Sunday lunch in a beautiful pub!

Great pub with lovely food. We hadn't booked but called in on the off chance they could fit us in. With it being a busy Saturday evening I thought we'd be out of luck but the lovely staff sorted us a table. £70 for 2 adult main meals, a kids meal, 2 desserts, a scoop of ice cream and 3 soft drinks is a little pricey but that's just the norm these days so going here is a treat rather than a regular thing.

This is a lovely pub with fantastic food. DOG FRIENDLY!! The outside is deceiving, as it appears small outside but once you go inside there seems to be space and seating area throughout. The atmosphere was great, typical British pub with friendly greetings, excellent customer service and friendly customers. The food itself was incredible. The menu is basic, but don’t take that as a negative, after all it’s a pub and doesn’t need to be complicated. With that being said, the food is amazing, hot, fresh and delicious. I purchased the burger on our visit and wow, cooked to perfection, portion size is generous and quality is undoubted the best I’ve had in any pub. I have read previous reviews and not sure why someone has mentioned no option for a tab as there certainly is. That being said, given the area of country I frequent I would suggest best practice for any business is for customers to pay in advance. Parking can be difficult but fortunately there is a free council car park near by. Yeah you read right, free and council in the same sentence, what!?!? In any case, comments again about parking, this is an old historic town, built way before modern cars, so it will be hit and miss. This will definitely be on our list of places to visit on our next visit to the Cotswold! Thank you, keep it up!

I have looked at some of the other reviews and exactly the same thing happened to us when we tried to eat, only it was after spending £60 on drinks. The bar area had plenty of free tables, one of which we were seated at, and the back dining rooms were about a third full. I accept we didn’t have a reservation to eat, but the place was not overcrowded and there was no clear sign of an exodus, or a load of bookings on the way. The barman was quite rude and dismissive to us as ‘walk-ins’ (a term he used repeatedly). Seems like taking £60 for our drinks didn’t elevate us to dining status, so we went to the Fox who were twice as busy, twice as welcoming and managed to engage with us sensibly and agree that they could accommodate us after a short wait, which we were invited to do standing at the bar. I wasn’t looking for a charm offensive from the guy behind the bar in the Blue Boar, but he at least could have tried to be interested.

I had the very disappointing 3 meat Sunday roast option. The slice of pork was pathetically small with no cracking, the smallish piece of chicken had been murdered, and the small offending of beef was chewy. Looking round the table, paying the extra for 3 meats resulted in having less meat. Top heavy on price for a sub standard offering.

Like most pubs in England, do you have to order at the bar and then they bring your food to you? The one thing I don't particularly appreciate about these kinds of pubs is that you have to pay for your food and drink in advance, and you can’t seem to keep an open tab. The fish and chips were good and more than filling. The mushroom soup was delicious, a tad salty for us, and the dinner salad was great, but there was too much quinoa. Came in last minute for a meal. The friendly man at the bar arranged for a table to be booked for 4 adults, 2 children and a dog later in the evening. The pub is very traditional with cosy nooks and small rooms, we were sat in a small room, just our group, which was perfect for us. The staff were super friendly and they apologised for the delay in food being served, giving us a free bread and olive tray while we waited. The food was a while to be served, but that was fine with us because staff kept us in the loop and it was worth the wait! Food was delicious! Would wholeheartedly recommend this pub for anyone in the area. Lovely food, lovely staff and a lovely pub.
