Stopped off for a drink whilst on the Gringley on the hill circular walk, very pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. Got peckish and ordered a pizza and fires, was not disappointed, the food was tasty and good value for money.

Really nice evening here. Very welcoming and friendly. Lovely, quirky interior without trying too hard. So nice to have a vegetarian meal that's a) not vegan one-size-fits-all and b) not goats cheese! And if you like onion rings these were special! A folk music session in the back room made for a nice backdrop without being too loud to talk over in the next room. Will definitely go back.

We enjoy coming for the Sunday roast in the quaint surroundings. The prices are reasonable and the standard of food is very good with tasty meat and Yorkshire puds, served with a good variety of vegetables and plenty of gravy. The staff are friendly and efficient so I would definitely recommend.

We took ourselves to dining area to find someone to seat us at 6.30pm 45 minutes later our meal was served. Food was very good. No complaints there. No house wine option. £24 bottle bought which was very nice. (Retails at £7.99)

Visited for dinner recently one Saturday night. Staff were lovely and welcoming and friendly. Food was ok, took a little while for the staff to take our order so we went to the bar to order instead, no great shakes. A couple of niggles, one more significant than the other. Firstly, in my view there were way too many people in this small pub, people standing and chatting at the bar, big group of people eating close to us. Just didn’t feel social distancing was happening. Second niggle was e cigarettes inside where people are eating. Just don’t like it, not nice. It is a lovely little pub for a drink and a nice big beer garden out the back. Just didn’t feel overwhelmed on this recent visit. Sorry to have to report this.

It's good that the pub is still open, but do we need a big TV screen with sky sports in the bar? We ate there and the food was average, bought in pies, oven ready chips, ok but not what it could be. White wine was warm, beers only average. When the rest of the UK seems to have taken to gastro pubs and craft beers the Blue Bell is stuck in the past.

This is our village pub and it has been under new management since earlier in the year. It has been refurbished, the entire beer range has been upgraded and the whole atmosphere is a lot warmer. The kitchen is now open for business too and is doing a great job.The highlight of the ordinary menu has to be the pies which are superb. However, we visited for Sunday roast and family board games and the whole day was excellent. There were 15 of us in the group so credit to the staff who got everything right first time. There were a nice touches too such as the tray of extra (homemade) yorkshires which were superb. There were two roasts to choose from and a vegetarian option on the Sunday menu. The food was all very good, I'd single out the gravy as particularly delicious. The atmosphere was good too - Very relaxed but very nice with a coal fire. The pub was full when we ate and so it is worth booking because it is a small village pub and we saw people being turned away from around 3pm as the Sunday service sold out.The portions were generous so fitting in desert was a struggle and only the most dertermined gluttons managed this, myself included.

I have visited this pub on a handful of accasions in the past year and its gets worse every time. The pub itself has so much potential and is lovely ! The atmosphere is unwelcoming to say the least. Every time we've visited we've left after about 10 minutes as it's just far to awkward. No food no music and the barmaid walking about in her slippers. This pub needs some drastic changes to get it back to what it once was.

called in for a sunday evening drink to find the place poorly frequented, only a handful of loud males who were clearly the worse for drink crowding around the bar and using obscene language. The bar maid was slouched on a tall bar stool with her feet on an adjoining stool, giving a poor impression of the place and taking no account of a customers dog which was urinating on the floor nearby.

Difficult this review because we like the place we used to like it lots, however the new owners seemingly have lots to learn about serving in the hospitality industry, particularly the land lady ! We have been served by the landlord and he seemed nice but his other half needs to go on a course or two me thinks! It's difficult to tell our story as we will kinda out our identity and to be frank don't really want to do that, our complaint is about service from the landlady who to be frank was rude, unfriendly, and totally not personable, seems to have a significant chip on her shoulder, the table service was poor vert slow and not personable although she was a lovely young girl, the food was very good we had pie in the restaurant which as the sign says is very much work in progress the second floor needs a complete makeover by someone with an eye for these things it's a right mishmash at the moment the problem is I think they think it looks nice !! It's not! It was much nicer previously. Better stop at that really the landlady needs to understand this is a pub people come in and will do really what they want so if a table is reserved and you don't want people to sit down but a reserved sign on it ! If you offer bar snacks and restaurant my expectation if I choose restaurant I'm not barked at and asked to order our drinks at the bar by you! - a restaurant should offer table service, and when customers are walking up the stairs to find a table that is acceptable to sit at and your then wanting to come down the same stairs it would be courteous for you to wait and let the customers walk up them NOT push past us and unbalance us for your information having just had a serious operation from which I am still recovering I could of done without it! Even our children picked up on how rude you were!

We moved to the village a few months ago and, as we were at home this Christmas, decided to take advantage of having a pub just around the corner! What a treat. My family who were staying with us proclaimed this one of, if not THE best Christmases ever - a big factor being our time spent in the pub on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. A fabulous atmosphere; the pub was jam-packed, the Morris Dancers on the road outside on Boxing Day added to the sense of community spirit and was a fabulous way to celebrate the season with family and friends. The new management have just announced that their kitchen is now open for serving food so we are looking forward to our next visit. I would also add that never have I felt so happy to visit a pub with my children.

My husband and my friends husband both had venison. I tried it and it was so tender and sweet. I will definitely have that another time. Dessert was cranachy with millionaire shortbread. Nothing fancy, just a visit to the pub early on Wednesday evening for a relaxed meal out. And the Blue Bell Inn did not let us down. Clearly a local for people to pop in to on the way home from work, the bar was fairly busy but only three or four tables were occupied for meals. The pie section of the menu is entertaining, allowing you to select the type of pie, potato, peas and sauce in whatever combination you want. I'm afraid I stuck to the traditional Landlord pie, chips, mushy peas and gravy! And was not disappointed! The pie was a very light crust folded under, over and around a good helping of tender beef. Perhaps a little dry on its own but not with the plentiful supply of gravy in a jug. The only slight downside was the half hour plus we had to wait for the meals to arrive - I guess there was only one chef in the kitchen mid-week. But well worth the wait.

The hot stone concept is great and the choice of pies is excellent but on each occasion that we have visited over the last year the more "exotic" meats such as kangaroo and ostrich have been off the menu. Booked for 7.30 and arrived 7.00 but did not get our food until 9.00. The choice is a little different, steaks or pies seem to be the main option. I ordered fish pie and lemon dill sauce. At 8.30 the waitress asked if I would like gravy (with fish pie) or lemon dill sauce so reiterated lemon dill sauce and thought we were going to get served but then only to wait a further 30 mins. I was bemused to find gravy had been served with the fish pie so then I had to wait again so I was not impressed. The dinning room a little cramped and I was of the opinion that local regulars get priority service. The staff were polite but the kitchen needs to sort their timing out. I realise food is cooked to order and if there is going to be a delay, let your customers know. I will have to think twice about returning.

Asked for a menu which was provided with the message that they were out of chips. Not a problem, we could work around that. Placed an order for two fish dinners with sautéed potatoes. Ten minutes later we were told they were also off the menu for the evening. Further enquiries and more waiting time we found the only option available was baked potatoes. At this point we paid for our (wrong) drinks and left to find more accomadating local hostelry.

A beautiful welcoming fire was roaring away when we got there. The bar and the dining room were nicely decorated for Christmas. They have lots of nice little touches like the box to post your local Christmas cards into and lots of local produce to purchase.

For a well prepared, served with a friendly smile I would highly recommend this country pub. Real ale too with fresh food beautifully prepared. I imagine during busy times and Sunday a reservation would be necessary. A good pub style menu too.

It was cold outside but there was a beautiful welcoming fire roaring away when we got there. The staff were great and very friendly. I chose the gammon and the chocolate brownie for afters .... yummy and a really well kept pint of Timothy Taylors too, bonus. It was very busy on arrival but then we were left on our own upstairs but the staff were still attentive. I was pleasantly surprised with the bill at the end ......................... we will definitely be going again.

Came here for a change. I had the blue bell pie (steak, onion, mushroom and Stilton) was lovely, with real chips and a nice gravy. My wife had a fresh homemade goats cheese tart, looked beautiful. Definitely will go back.

Made to feel welcome, food was nice, good choice on the menu. One thing though the room was a little cold, didn't take my coat off! But wouldn't put me off coming back.

Ate here on Sunday (29/06/14) with my fiancé. We had made a special trip to the gorgeous village so had decided to eat at the Blue Bell Inn as a bonus. A friendly greeting when we arrived set the afternoon up nicely. We ordered our drinks at the bar and were seated on a little table close by. There was a vintage car rally driving through as we arrived so was great seeing them all as we looked through the menu. I had garlic mushrooms to start, my fiancé the bbq chicken wings. Both enjoyed our choices. We both had the Blue Bell Inn pie for our mains, along with chips, a selection of veg and gravy. All homemade and tasted delicious. Even though we were both sufficiently full, we decided to have a dessert each seeing as we'd made the trip...so chose the chocolate brownie each. He would've preferred the cheesecake but they had sold out, this is the sole reason I couldn't award 5/5! Really warm, welcoming place, very popular with the locals who had started arriving whilst we were finishing our desserts. We'd mentioned to the lovely lady behind the bar who'd taken our orders that my fiancé was disappointed they'd sold out of cheesecake, she suggested we make another trip to make sure he tries it as it's delicious...We may just have to do that. I would highly recommend the Blue Bell Inn, well cooked, delicious homemade food, enough menu options to choose from set in a lovely country pub - exactly how I like them.

Called here mid week after hearing good reports about the food. Upon arrival there was a good selection of ales and largers. The bar and the dining room were nicely decorated and furnished. There was a good selection to choose from the menu. Our food didn't take for ever to come but neither was it too quick and it certainly was top drawer. The portions were of good size and the quality of food was great. The Blue Bell also has regular live music too. We'll be making a regular visit here. Highly recommended.

If you like quality home cooked for at a good price, this is a must for your schedule. First time we have been for many years & we have clearly been missing out. Under previous owners it went outside being good for those who wanted basic English food. Today it caters for all types, with the perhaps the only thing missing being a good curry.

Me and my partner play live music at The Blue Bell every so often. The landlord, Adam, is incredibly hospitable and really looks after us, as do all the staff.

Still has the traditional feel. 4 of us booked and had steaks on hot stones. All the steaks were lean and served up sizzling. My tip would be though: when your steak is done enough to your liking, take it off, otherwise it will continue cooking and you will end up with one very well done. Hot stones made it a bit different for our American guests. The waitress was very helpful and made our friends feel very welcome

We visited The Blue Bell for lunch on Easter Sunday and were very satisfied. We only booked an hour before we sat down and the staff helped us choose a time that would mean were served promptly. Two of us had the Blue Bell burger - delicious, and two had the roast pork - equally tasty. The atmosphere was relaxed and homely despite the fact they must have been very busy "back stage". Will definitely be visiting again soon I hope.

Fourteen of us, including a toddler went on a Saturday lunch time for a birthday meal. Between us we had a large selection of food all of which was good. My own meal was Sea Bass which was delicious, the vegetables were cooked beautifully and everything was hot (often difficult with a group booking) The toddler meal was lovely - just as fresh and good as the adults food with no sign of chicken nuggets or burgers!!! Our table was waited on by a very pleasant young man who managed to keep us all happy all of the time. We seemed to have the right amount of attention and the right amount of time to ourselves. All in all a lovely time was had by all Thank you to everyone at the Blue Bell.

This pub is a tale of two halves. The decoration & ambiance of the pub is lovely, loos are clean and ample parking. The pub was wonderfully dog friendly & the lady behind the bar & taking food orders was wonderful, friendly and vey helpful, the drinks were great and amazingly cheap.....However..... I'm afraid the whole evening was ruined by the food. I ordered the Fillet steak, medium rare @ £25.00 (not expensive), I asked for side salad instead of onion rings, mushrooms & toms. No sauce. What arrived was a very small sirloin (poss rump) steak, 1/2 " thick with a good 1" of unrendered fat down one side and over cooked. Plus a side of pepper sauce I never ordered. I questioned if the order had been taken down wrong or misread but I was assured that the Chef says The steak is definitely fillet! & the sauce is complimentary!..... I am not a butcher but I do know what a Fillet cut looks like !!! This was NOT. I was on a date with my partner so didn't want to complain, or embarrass him, but I feel bad that I allowed him to pay for something I definitely didn't have! I ate the meal which was edible but not what it was meant to be. The couple on the table behind us had a lengthily argument with the chef about his steak, sent one back & refused to pay for the second!! I don't mind if things aren't available or the kitchen is short staffed. I don't care of orders are taken or read wrongly BUT to be LIED to is unforgiveable. If I was there on my own I would not have accepted my meal. That said, my boyfriend's Faggots were lovely.......In short, A lovely pub for a cheap drink.......just don't have high expectations of the food.

Not a bad atmosphere as you walk through the door, although it took a few minutes for them to realise I was there, luckily the TV was on current affairs. Some tables still had dirty plates on them. Ordered a large sandwich and was asked if I wanted extras on, (egg was mentioned but I didn't get any). The sandwich was well worth the money (£4.60) as it was really full. Negatives were: bread was soggy but this was due to everything inside, eg coleslaw, salad cream etc. This also meant the sandwich fell to bits so I had to eat it with fork. They used clingfilm instead of foil/paper to wrap, this added to the mess when it was unwrapped. Big one for me was the lady DID NOT use gloves, I mentioned this and she said that she had just washed her hands, the clothes she was wearing were really dirty which did not fill me with joy. Overall the sandwich filled me up, the staff was kind and helpful but I won't return as I prefer cleanliness above all else.
