Been dining here for a number of years. The food is alway fresh, very well cooked to perfection and delivered perfectly. The chef has a great flare with attention to detail. Lovely staff and cosy atmosphere. Highly recommended

A wonderful restaurant and one of our most favourite places to eat out at in all of Yorkshire. We visited on the 11th of January 2022, on what turned out to be a quiet night. The quality of the food here is poles apart from some of the meals we've had out in other pub/ restaurants in the area. The presentation is also exceptional and second to none. I only wish we could eat out here more often than our twice yearly visits, when we are staying in the local area. Roll on August 2022 when we are back next!

Party of 4 prebooked for Sunday Lunch. It is best to book well ahead as it gets full quickly - a good sign! Service was prompt and friendly and unrushed in spite of being busy. One small detail is that they insist on calling a casserole with a pastry lid “a pie” but, semantics apart, the “pie” was excellent with a lovely short crust pastry lid and large chunks of very tasty, tender beef - really nice. Restaurants currently seem to serve veg that have been merely warmed or blanched so I requested well-done veg and they arrived perfect with hint of crispness and not overcooked to sogginess. My wife had a duck leg and said she loved it. Because it was busy, we were put in a small annexe that was a little on the cool side and would have benefitted from some background music but, all in all, the food was great, service was good, it was good value and we all enjoyed it.

Our first visit but not our last. Fabulous food, a daily menu by looks, decent wine and incredibly cheap, so cheap I questioned the waitress and she confirmed the correct price so I left a large tip. Five drinks inc one short, four courses and all for £64!!!! It's only open at night as best I can guess so book it and try.

We had a Sunday lunch at the Blue Bell, cooking was superb, I had pork, beautifully tender, other half had beef, equally so. Generous portions, lovely vegetables, good service, enjoyed all three courses (can recommend cherries with kirsch), and coffee afterwards. Good hand pulled beer. BUT best of all - shh, just whisper it, no pop music. Wonderful, a place to have a meal and not be irritated by muzac which so often spoils a social occasion. We will definitely come back.

A friend and I had dinner in this lovely country Restaurant/Pub recently. Unusually for us we both managed 3 courses and the portions were generous. Well presented and value for money. Delicious desserts. Quirky décor, pleasant staff, spotlessly clean and good selection of Gin! Our only comment would be that the restaurant wasn't very warm. However, we will be returning.

What an exceptional place! We went for the "Early Bird" menu, and were not disappointed, the choice was brilliant and so well cooked and presented. The dessert menu was truly mouthwatering. My brother-in-law asked about a certain lager they had on draught and was asked if he would like a taster - of course he answered in the affermative. The staff were so pleasant it was as if they could not do enough for us. It is a little way off the beaten track but it is well worth the effort to get there. I recommend you book a table.

I've eaten here in the past and found it to be OK and I really can't warm to the place. However, my other half wanted to give it a try as it's close. The food was nice, and the menu choice reasonably good (quite a few dishes were slow cooked this and that, so probably prepared well in advance). We chose the special, steak wrapped in bacon, filled with cheese, as it sounded rather interesting. It was tasty enough and the steak was good quality, but a bit pricey at £25 a head for the steak (plus another £25 for a couple of beers and an average red). For what it's trying to be, cheap paper serviettes and supermarket-style, non-refillable salt and pepper mills rather take the edge off things. It's still OK and I still haven't warmed to the place, there are better locally.

We visited on a quiet Tuesday evening @ about 8pm, there was two other tables already dining when we entered. We were warmly greeted by the young lady behind the bar / counter (the daughter of the husband / wife team who own the Inn & cook the food. We didn't have a starter, straight into the mains; Slow Roast Pork & the Beef & Ale Pie. My wife is a bit of a connoisseur on slow roast pork - especially the crispiness of the crackling - she rated this the best she had ever eaten - better than a couple of one start Mitchelin restaurants we have been to The pie was excellent as well We shared a desert after - neither of us wanting a full portion The prices are good; Starters & Deserts £5 each, mains from £9 to £15 - though steaks cost more Overall a lovely visit; warm welcome, good food, nice atmosphere & sensible prices. Drinks were in line of what I would expect for an establishment like this We will return when in the area

We were recommended to use the Bluebell by the proprietor of the B and B we were staying at and were not disappointed. The menu choice was impressive and quality of food and service first class. If you are looking for good food at very reasonable prices in a relaxing and friendly environment, you should dine here. Best meal we have had out for a long while.

On arrival at the Blue Bell, we were seated in the back dining area. Out drink orders were taken and we were left to peruse the restaurant menu. I have to say I was extremely impressed with the range of dishes on offer. Our orders were taken (deciding we'd skip starters so we could enjoy a pudding) and a slice of baguette for each if us was brought in abasjet. We then waited about an hour. We were starting to feel a little restless. The food was outstanding. After another 45 minutes we had to catch staff attention to have the table cleared and order puddings. These took another 30 minutes to arrive, at which point we requested coffee. All in all the two course and coffee took just over three hours to get through. The food really was top class, environment lovely and staff very nice. But they lose a star purely because of the wait between courses

. Lovely pub. Not too impressed with lady at bar who greeted us and served our pre dinner drinks. Not really front of house material. Travelling with another couple. They really enjoyed their food . I ordered the half roasted duckling with unfortunately was totally over cooked and dry. Desserts were lovely.

Been here at least a couple of times before and had heard it had 'gone off a bit'. However we decided not to be put off and still give it another try. We went for our pre-Christmas meal, middle of December and we were not disappointed. It was busy so the atmosphere was good and, overall, the food was well presented and well cooked. My only negative comment would be the starter, there were four of us in the party and we all had the same, warm goats cheese on a bed of rocket, although very tasty, it was practically cold goats cheese I must admit they were very busy so we didn't complain. This aside I would recommend the place, it's a bit off the beaten track but worth the effort.

Saw the 'terrible' review which totally lacked substance so decided to give my opinion after multiple visits. Be 5 times now as I live locally and can only say that the food and atmosphere are great. Always try and have something different but whatever I have it always great. Good service from the usually young staff. I love it, in fact I've booked Christmas Day there for the family and I wouldn't take them anywhere that's 'terrible'

I chanced to go to the Blue Bell for an important dinner. I was desperately disappointed. How this place survives I just don't know. Poor food, expensive, rude staff.

The Blue Bell is set in the rolling North Yorkshire countryside. The decor and table layout is first class but, more importantly, the food is of superb standard.I recommend a visit by anyone who lives or spending a few days in North yorkshire. Admittedly it is a few mile from York but well worth the travel

Gorgeous little spot and great local cheese and tea and scones and chutney. Friendly staff too, who chatted with us for a while. They gave us free apples as well.

Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the Sunday Lunch The meat was very thinly sliced and very little of it The vegetables were boring, lacking any flavour and cold to taste We were first there and at least expected the food to be hot ~ as they should have been throughout the whole service We did tell the staff , but they did not come back with any reply Definitely not worth the £23 spent

A cut above your normal Sunday pub lunch. Excellent presentation and really tasty. Not the normal boiled veg. Very good.

What a little gem of a cafe. Breakfast service is personal and welcoming. The menu was taylored to my choice and so tasty. Yet to enjoy the evening menu but it always looks so warm and welcome when I drive by in an evening.

Visiting the village and was not disappointed when stumbling across this gorgeous pub, lovely vibe inside very homely and a warm open fire. The service was fantastic with happy welcoming start, the food was fresh, hot and had everything you could ask for. Could definitely tell it was proper home made food and not frozen or from a bag. Pork belly was gorgeous it wasn’t too sweet it was perfect and fell apart. Blacksmiths pie was delicious and the gravy with the chips on the side were fantastic. Well worth every penny, thank you and we will be back soon!
