Amazing food and a dog friendly pub. We were on the way back from a holiday. The staff are really friendly and attentive. It's a shame it's 3 hours away from where we live!

Me and my partner have been a few times, it is always popular and we love food off the main menu, we haven't had a bad meal on that so far, however we tried for the first time the Sunday Carvery and it was not so good, the beef tasted really dry unfortunately, but we will come again for the main menu.

We visited today for Sunday lunch. We booked as knew it would be busy. Table was booked for 3pm. We arrived 15 mins early and showed to our table. Sunday is just carvery only nothing off the standard menu. The carvery was lovely the meat cooked to perfection with a choice of meats, Yorkshire pudding gs, roast potatoes, stuffing and a good hot selection of fresh vegetables and lovely thick gravy. There were plenty of sauces to add to the meal. The adult meal carvery Was £11.95. We had drinks out in the beer garden afterwards and the land lady asked us several times if things were okay. Great time with great friends. Thankyou the blue bell we will return soon

Moved here recently and have eaten here twice in the last two weeks. The crusted salmon was delicious and the ceaser salad was one of the nicest I’ve had. Lovely, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Love the beer garden too at the back.

It’s our first visit to The Blue Bell following a recommendation from our son, it certainly won’t be our last! From being greeted warmly by Kerry, all the staff were pleasant and very attentive with the service of drinks and our food. The food was excellent value and lovely. Large portions - I don’t think anyone would leave wanting more food! The steak offer is excellent and the brownie was delicious! What a gem, we couldn’t fault it!

How lucky are we to have this wonderful pub within walking distance from our home! We have tried Sunday lunch - exceptional and superb value for money! Tonight we had an evening meal. My husband and son had the steak night menu - they both said it was first class! I had the Chicken Katsu Curry and it was delicious. Its excellence is demonstrated by the pubs popularity. Well done to all of the staff at the Blue Bell. You really deserve the good reviews that you get.

Wow! We enjoyed the Sunday Carvery so much…reasonably priced too! What a lovely warm welcome! The pub was packed out…you need to book early! Delicious roast joints with all the trimmings…Yorkshire Pudds, stuffing, roasted pots & parsnips + perfectly cooked veg! Didn’t have room for a pud …but will try one next time! Customer service was excellent with friendly, helpful waitresses. The outside area is lovely too! We’ll be back….can’t wait to bring our family & friends! Thank you!

Really warm welcome from staff. Nice surroundings and a good choice on the menu, with specials to choose from too. I really recommend the blue bell stacker Dexter burger. Really good quality burger. My only complaint would be that I was too full at the end but that’s my fault for being greedy

This pub is a little gem, situated in the village with parking at the rear. Three generations of us, including two small children, visited for Sunday lunch which is a carvery. If you think this might be a bit ordinary then think again. It was excellent with succulent and tasty cuts of meat (pork, turkey and beef this week) with a good selection of beautifully cooked vegetables, mash and roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and really good gravy. The vegetarian option was a tasty pie so we were all catered for. We couldn’t fault anything about it, lovely welcome, efficient friendly staff and an excellent chef. The menu in the week has a good selection of dishes including a great mixed grill and salmon. Highly recommended, we will be back.

Had a fantastic family meal. They were extremely accommodating for a table of 15. All the meals were not only wonderful but all came out together. Everyone had something different and commented on how lovely the food was (none of us had visited before). The staff were fantastic and couldn’t do enough. The pub itself looks newly refurbished and to a high standard. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Good to see the Blue bell open again. We had a wonderful Sunday lunch here. Food was fantastic and well prepared. Had a choice of Beef, Pork or Turkey from the carvery. Select your own vegetables and sauce's to go with your meal. Glad to say the food is as good as it was with the previous owners.

My Wife and I are regular customers of this fantastic establishment, it’s that good, we travel 17miles round trip just to eat there, it’s always, clean, comfortable, the staff are friendly, efficient and nothing is too much trouble, a special mention for Ruby, no matter how busy she is or how unwell she feels she always greets you with a smile and asks how you are, professional and a credit to her employer, thank you all for always being the best in Retford 😉

Not a bad atmosphere as you walk through the door, although it took a few minutes for them to realise I was there, luckily the TV was on current affairs. Some tables still had dirty plates on them. Ordered a large sandwich and was asked if I wanted extras on, (egg was mentioned but I didn't get any). The sandwich was well worth the money (£4.60) as it was really full. Negatives were: bread was soggy but this was due to everything inside, eg coleslaw, salad cream etc. This also meant the sandwich fell to bits so I had to eat it with fork. They used clingfilm instead of foil/paper to wrap, this added to the mess when it was unwrapped. Big one for me was the lady DID NOT use gloves, I mentioned this and she said that she had just washed her hands, the clothes she was wearing were really dirty which did not fill me with joy. Overall the sandwich filled me up, the staff was kind and helpful but I won't return as I prefer cleanliness above all else.

This pub is a tale of two halves. The decoration & ambiance of the pub is lovely, loos are clean and ample parking. The pub was wonderfully dog friendly & the lady behind the bar & taking food orders was wonderful, friendly and vey helpful, the drinks were great and amazingly cheap.....However..... I'm afraid the whole evening was ruined by the food. I ordered the Fillet steak, medium rare @ £25.00 (not expensive), I asked for side salad instead of onion rings, mushrooms & toms. No sauce. What arrived was a very small sirloin (poss rump) steak, 1/2 " thick with a good 1" of unrendered fat down one side and over cooked. Plus a side of pepper sauce I never ordered. I questioned if the order had been taken down wrong or misread but I was assured that the Chef says The steak is definitely fillet! & the sauce is complimentary!..... I am not a butcher but I do know what a Fillet cut looks like !!! This was NOT. I was on a date with my partner so didn't want to complain, or embarrass him, but I feel bad that I allowed him to pay for something I definitely didn't have! I ate the meal which was edible but not what it was meant to be. The couple on the table behind us had a lengthily argument with the chef about his steak, sent one back & refused to pay for the second!! I don't mind if things aren't available or the kitchen is short staffed. I don't care of orders are taken or read wrongly BUT to be LIED to is unforgiveable. If I was there on my own I would not have accepted my meal. That said, my boyfriend's Faggots were lovely.......In short, A lovely pub for a cheap drink.......just don't have high expectations of the food.

Enquired about my dog and advised dog friendly but no longer does food so makes any reviews a little academic
