Popped in here for the first time in years with no booking for a family lunch. We were warmly received and although the place was very busy a table was available. Lucky us. The menu is very interesting and diverse but with the normal favourites also available, we had a mixed bag from monk fish, lobster pie and lie of the day and they were absolutely superb…dessert was great too. My guess is it’s prepared on site by some very good chefs Service through was excellent…..Will certainly recommend and be back Well done all

We haven’t been to the Blue Anchor for quite a while and wondered how it would be, but it was a really excellent meal and clearly the chef(s) know what they’re doing. I had a Lobster Bisque fish pie which was lovely as was my wife’s Shredded spiced up beef dish. Desserts were equally good. We couldn’t fault any of it at all. Pat & Brian

We would like to thank Amy & her team for being able to accommodate our family at such a short notice. We contacted them the evening before, and even though they had a big event on, and the football, she was happy to fit all 14 of us in. The food was amazing and a great selection for vegetarians.

The Blue Anchor Crowborough, what can I say. We have been coming to this pub for a long time. We had our wedding lunch here 5 years ago and each time we come it gets better. This afternoon there is a large birthday party on in the restaurant and on the patio, but the staff even though they are rushed off their feet have been amazing apologising for the wait for drinks and food which hasn't been long compared to other places I have been. The food as always was fantastic. Thank you and well done Amy and team.

We went to our first quiz "Leap Year Quiz" last night, group of 6, and had a great night. Wasn't sure what to expect, but it was really well organised and had a buzzing atmosphere. A real mix of rounds which made it fun. Everyone seemed to be having a ball and interacting well! We didn't have any food, but it looked so good that we have booked to return for a meal next week! A lot of effort went into the quiz, we especially loved the tasting round! Really liked the fact that there was tabs and table service. 4 of our party had never been to The Blue Anchor before, but we will be coming back!! Highly recommended!

We are 3 golden oldies and the staff were kind & patient with our needs. We all had roast dinners (Sunday) & the meat was tender & full of flavour. Vegetables - roast pots., red cabbage, cauliflower cheese, green beans, swede mash & a massive Yorkshire pudding filled the plates, but we managed to eat everything because it was all so delicious. Also we were seated next to the log fire. What a treat, thank you to all staff.

Pleasant enough pub/restaurant myself and partner went for Sunday lunch we were attended pretty quick seeing they were quite busy got our drinks and menu to peruse and a few minutes later was asked for our order we both ordered the roast beef which was placed on the table about 10 minutes later first impressions of the meal was the roast potatoes were in my opinion over cooked and we were unfortunate to get 3 slices of beef that was quite gristly and difficult to chew but the rest on the plate was very nice,we also had a dessert which was extremely nice so overall i would give the Blue Anchor a very nice 7 out of 10.

I booked a pub lunch for 2 families with a range of ages but I didn't expect it to be so family focussed. There were board games and toys along with a kids menu. They were very accommodating and attentive. Whoever did the decor did a fantastic job and the attention to detail was evident. Even the loos were very clean and well thought out. 10/10 My only feedback would be perhaps to make the kids menu plainer; as in a simple bun and the burger not burnt anywhere. I know.. but kids can be fussy!! All in all - We will definitely visit again. And if you are a young family visiting from outside of the area, the playground at Crowborough Leisure Centre is well worth a visit and only 4 mins away!

Nice easy parking, nicely light and airy restaurant area, perfect service from our waitress, and the food was delicious! We went to the Blue Anchor twice whilst staying nearby in Sussex. Excellent food, not a typical pub grub menu. One of us is vegetarian and that was well catered for. Service was quick but not in any way rushed. The waitress mentioned they even have hot water bottles available so they’ve really thought of everything to make it comfortable for people until we can sit inside again. The last time we visited the Blue Anchor was well over 10 years ago, so it was refreshing to see what the new management has been doing, serving good quality food seems to be a focus. We booked in for lunch, and to be honest the menu wasn't huge however as a result of that the quality and freshness of the food was excellent. I had the white beetroot and goats cheese as a starter which was superb, for mains we had the duck breast and a burger both were excellent. We ate inside and looked at the outside area on our way out, which has been very well laid out.Overall impression was very good and we will be certainly be recommending the Blue Anchor as a great local pub to our friends and family.

Had a fabulous anniversary lunch at the Blue Anchor - excellent service and food. We started with a mix of kimchi/coriander oysters and oysters with shallots, all delicious. A charred mackerel and chicken wings with blue cheese dip were our starters, and they were very tasty and fresh - the mackerel was soft with a wonderful barbecue flavour. For our mains we both went for 'light bite' BBQ Octopus Tacos which had fennel slaw, avocado and skinny fries on the side. We love Octopus and are picky over how it's cooked, this was brilliantly cooked, tender but with a strong BBQ flavour. The service was attentive but not intrusive, and the safeguarding measures were all in place - we felt safe at all times. It was good value for money all round, and the light bite was large enough for a main meal. We will definitely be returning.

What a fantastic time we had for my husbands 60th birthday. We rang The Blue Anchor and asked if they could accommodate us, we were a party of 15, 7 adults and 8 children. We were very pleased to see that the Blue Anchor had taken the trouble to make a vegetarian pie and not just meat pies.It was delicious and complemented with creamy mash potatoes and perfectly cooked seasonal vegetables. The meals all came out together, the food was hot and serve with a smile from the tentative staff at the Blue Anchor. All 15 of us who had a mixture of different foods were very pleased with the quantity and the quality of the food.We defiantly will be going back very soon.Thank you to Amy and her team for making it such a special day.

First visit to the Blue Anchor. On arrival the staff were polite and efficient. We were shown to a spacious clean table and left with menus. Drink orders taken and served quickly. Impressed that our server was aware of the Garlic allergy we had noted when booking. Ordered two steaks which again arrived in good time and hot. The food is nicely presented on the plates and looked very appetising. The whole evening was only let down by both steaks being very sinewy, resulting in not only a lot of chewing, but an amount being inedible. I would recommend the Blue Anchor for staff and surroundings and some of the other meals we observed people eating looked very nice, just give the Ribeye a swerve

Well, what a lovely place to go for a meal, either as a couple, or with your whole family, there were several other families there and all seemed to be having a great time. the garden is massive so on a nice day the kids can play out side, there are things to climb and a house of wood to explore, if its raining there are lots for the kids to do in the pub. Our meals were served hot (15 meals) and together, it was nice that the Blue had made an effort and made veggie pies for pie week, and they were lovely, like all the food was, enough to eat and good value, will be back for more soon.

The food is lovely and the staff are really friendly but the time it takes for the food to arrive is just too long. We sat down at 1, were served quite quickly but the starters didn’t arrive until 1:45. The main course then took another half hour after we’d finished the starter. We would had puddings and coffee but couldn’t wait another half hour. Overall we were there for over 2 1/2 hours and only had two courses. Now if there was an issue in the kitchen, we weren’t told; perhaps if we had been it would have us more understanding, but we weren’t. Sorry, can’t recommend unless you’ve got all afternoon for a lunch.

Go here quite a bit and drinks order was forgotten and girl behind the bar was eating which must have delayed our drinks. waited an hour for our main meal and when we asked we were told it was because we had had a starter so the time is reset which is why three tables who came in after us got their food first. For the record, our starter was bread! Staff seemed to have attitude with us after we enquires where our food was, which when it came was nice but we had to ask for cutlery as well. When last in England, and driving to London through Crowborough, we passed on our left a modest building modestly proclaiming itself to be a Country Pub with Dining. Turning round and going in, we soon realized our mistake in passing it . The modesty of its self proclaimed status belies the remarkable achievement of its owners and staff - this is a great welcoming genuine unpretentious pub with all the character of a country inn, with great dining in a large separate area with lovely decor. The food is as good as you will find anywhere , with a wide ranging menu and ample portions ( unlike so many other places ). Squid, terrine, risotto , dressed crab , salted caramel torte and ice cream we had were fantastic. The service is excellent - charming , welcoming, attentive without being intrusive and professional to a level far beyond the youth of the staff. People and their children are happy here . Outside there is a large area with tables and a large car park. A great deal of thought has obviously gone into creating such a great welcoming place.

We have been to the Blue Anchor over several years and several owners - usually only once for each owner, which tells its own story. At last it looks as though it's in good hands. We had a very helpful and cheery welcome as 'walk ins' for dinner and were introduced to the Shepherd Neame lager whilst contemplating the menu. We both had fish - Dover sole and a beer battered cod - both very good. The dessert options were also very good. So, at last we'll be making at least one return visit!

Sunday lunch, the best roast in the south east. Staff were impeccable, so well organised and courteous. The landlord should be so proud of the service and quality of the food. Absolutely unbelievable, I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

We have lived in The Warren for around three years and have witnessed this pub's sad decline since we moved to the area. Thankfully Amy and her team have come along, picked it up by the scruff of the neck and given it a good shake.

It looked like a regular pub but was closer to a Gastro Pub

We moved within a 10 minute walk of The Blue Anchor just over a year ago but have only recently found the time to stroll up for a visit & glad we did. Excellent food served by Amy & her friendly team & always with a smile. We’ve now been 4 times both as a couple & with various family members in less than a month & have always left without anything to grumble about. Well done Amy on turning this place round, you’ve got some new regulars in us!!

Visited here for a working lunch,, was greeted by the barmaid as soon as we entered, offered to bring our drinks to the table. Food ordered was very nice with the baguette fresh. Barmaid asked if food was ok whilst we was eating which was good to see. Very nice experience and a lovely looking pub..

As you drive north through Crowborough, you would pass a rather unprepossessing building on your left, called The Blue Anchor pub- but to pass it would be a mistake. This is a great pub with wonderful food in a large restaurant area; the service is first rate . A first visit , with really excellent scallops, mussels , and pork loin , with good wine, served with charm, attentiveness without intrusion, professionalism and smiles will bring us back here frequently. There is a large garden and ample parking. Children are welcome. The decor is modern and elegant. This is an unpretentious, welcoming place. It is a hidden gem, not to be passed by.

The food is good and the staff are lovely but the pub was full of people on pub watch which isn't really what you want when having a family meal.

Being gluten free can make eating out a nightmare but not so at The Blue Anchor. On request the chef marked up the menu and I was told that as all the food was freshly cooked most items could be made gluten free, likewise with the desserts. It was a pleasure to have so much choice, plus the food was really good - thanks.

I have cycled past here so very very often and never tried the cafe. I should have read the reviews on here first! I stopped for a latte and a cake and the guy working here I am sure does not drink coffee. He was so out of his depth with the coffee machine I ended up with just hot milk!! In the old adage “You only get one chance to make a good first impression” Sorry but this time you failed. Yelling at me when I left that I could not go down and look at the lake as I might upset the fishermen having earlier told me there were no fishermen was not worth debating either. In short if you fish here use the cafe, if you are passing…… Keep on passing.

This country pub had been on our list for ages and so as it was my birthday weekend we booked for Sunday lunch. We'd checked the menu before booking so we knew the roast was pricey at £24 for the roast beef. We usually pay between £16 and £20 elsewhere. Unfortunately, when it arrived it was disappointing. There was plenty of thinly sliced beef but I found it very fatty and chewy. There were fewer vegetables than expected, half a carrot, 3 very small, very hard roast potatoes and a pile of kale. The Yorkshire pud was large but mainly soggy. The gravy was delicious. Also elements of the dish were less warm than others. The pub is lovely and had a good drinks menu but we were seated in the bar area and had to listen to staff discussing their rotas at length. Perhaps if we'd been in the main restaurant area or outside we'd have had a better experience. Maybe consider your portion sizes especially the veg. We didn't stay for desert.

Brilliant new proprietors from March 2024 with very high standards. So ignore 2023 reviews and the food and other pics are out of date. The accommodation area is not open yet as major refurb in progress. I went up for a music night in July and I am going up this week to sample the pub menu, and will certainly be booking ahead as soon as the hotel part does open, as I don’t drive, so a relaxing visit to Wadhurst for me, require a stop over. I am confident this team’s famous high standards will transform this historic building into a classy stay. The kitchen is entirely new, state of the art, and sparkling and immaculate, ( I was given a tour ) and I am looking forward to traveling to Wadhurst now they are serving food, as I know this chefs food is top notch. And with the welcoming bar team, I will feel comfortable and looked after. As a fussy woman who is used to dining alone, or taking others to dine in top establishments around the foodie cities of Brighton, Malaga and Paris, I have a high standard for hospitality and food. The new proprietors at the Greyhound are warm and welcoming and have high standards of hygiene and hospitality, I know this from their other ventures, I can’t wait to eventually stay over and enjoy the village of Wadhurst when the hotel part opens. Until then I am taking the bus up from Brighton this week to sample the new pub menu, as I know the chef is first class, and with such a good hospitality team I can confidently invite a party of people knowing they will be happy and looked after. On the new menu I will report my findings in detail!
