Came in for an impromptu visit with my young kids and husband, well the host was very erm rude about the fact we hadn’t booked (we were aware we may not get a table but tried anyway) there was no need to be so rude. Secondly we ordered, food came relatively quick which was great but the garlic bread I could have broken my teeth on, rock solid. Chips were burnt. Then when I asked the waitress for the children’s menu ( said when you have a spare minute can you pass us the menu, quite nicely not rushing her at all) so I could order a dessert for my son, she rolled her eyes and told me to wait as she was busy! 👀

Beautiful venue, friendly and accommodating staff. 4 different meals ordered and we all agreed it was lovely. The prices seemed a little steep and they don’t serve Guinness so half a star knocked off! We had friends visiting from overseas, so we wanted to choose an old English pub. They loved it. I asked in the reservation if we could sit by a fire and this was accommodated perfectly, with staff offering us two choices of tables by fires.

Been here twice now & each time we have always had lovely home made style food with good size portions ( especially some of the cakes!) & the prices are reasonable. There isn't too many vegetarian options which is something that could possibly be improved on. The staff are all very pleasent & helpful, always checking if everything is ok, creating a nice relaxed atmosphere. The pub itself is a cracking looking thatch roofed building set in a nice location with a nice beer garden & a kids playground complete with free running chickens & guinea fowl lol! I would thoroughly recommend this pub 👍

Visited 3/8/2024. 5 people Arrived to be told you are in the dog area In a very bad manner I didn’t want to sit in the bar/ dog area which I said to the girls on the reception She said we booked up you will have to sit over there then. We walked over to an almost empty room People were refusing to pay due to the bad food We almost walked out. I ask the girl if we could sit over by the window Her remarks ….why do you need to change seats this is for 5 people no different than the table you were shown to can’t see the point.. My reply …. Because I would like to sit by the window so we walked over to the table and then our family arrived. The girls were very rude slamming drinks down and talking about me . The food was not up to standard We will not be visiting again and I will give no recommendations out I suggest you put those very rude staff on a training course. Excellent service and catering for 19 of us was difficult, especially with 1 member having a food sensitivity. However, there were just a couple of small issues with some of the food. The pie (2 meals) was quite gristly with at least 3 lumps of inedible gristle in each. The salmon was hard at one end and the kids meal came with peas when it was ordered with beans. Otherwise, for such a large group, everything was excellent

We were in the area visiting a national trust property and saw the pub on the way home and thought it was worth a try. Despite being busy, as it was a beautiful day, we were given a warm, friendly welcome and escorted to a table. Our drinks order was taken straight away and upon bringing our drinks, our food order was taken. We didn't have to wait long for our starters and I was amazed at the amount of mussels! It was a huge helping, with a delicious garlic and white wine sauce. My husbands black pudding stack was tasty too. We were given enough time between courses, before our mains were brought to us and again, we were amazed at the portion sizes! My fish was huge and my husbands ham roast was plentiful too. There was a good selection on the menu and the prices were less than similar pubs we've visited. The pub was quant and traditionally decorated and was extremely busy without being noisy. The service we received was excellent, personable and very friendly. I would recommend anyone to visit here, you won't be disappointed.

Been here a few times, before today it was only 3 weeks prior and had a fantastic Sunday roast today started fantastic with dealings with a great manageress great service and drinks brought to us and fantastic starter but after this once we finished our starter it was 40 mins before we got our main course with which we needed to ask, once it did come straight away we had to ask for our Yorkshires to be warmed up as they were stone cold, the waitress said well I've got you fresh now as the others will have to be binned but said with attitude then when tucking into the rest we found it all only just warm and the cauliflower cheese had no florets in it and was just cheese and bits of cauliflower mush and the greens were just as bad peas with odd pieces of stalks from other greens looks like we had received leftover veg from others plates to add to our luke warm roast and cold Yorkshires. So disappointed as we thought we had found a real gem

Third time we have visited. Pub looks really nice and it’s got such a great outdoor space with lots for young kids to play with, and run around to burn off some energy pre and post food. Nice garden area with features to play in, chickens and their pen, small playground area with slide etc. and large field for football and other sports. I actually wasn’t overly impressed by my food this time. I had the rendang curry with high hopes but it was really bland. The rice was just plain and watery and the curry had no spice, and it was just basically like chicken chunks in a tomato sauce with one cashew nut. My husbands pie and chips meal was very tasty though - he enjoyed it and I had a try. Kids meals are a good size and my 2 and 4 year old loved their meal of sausage and mash which they shared. The ice cream sundaes for kids are a bit boring though. 3 scoops of ice cream and a wafer. Could do with some sauce or sprinkles or something else. But that’s a minor point as my kids enjoyed it. We do love coming here. Foods always been amazing the other times we have visited. Lovely inside and out. Would definitely return. Just hoping the feedback on the curry is taken on board as the menu makes it sound much more authentic than it actually is. I wouldn’t call it a rendang curry. It’s more like a microwave Tesco basic chicken curry. Otherwise, I’ve still given 5 stars as we really enjoy it here.

Asked for the bill after pointing this out only to be presented with the full amount and no apology from management. My mum is 81 and could have choked. After complaining again and suggesting they look at the bill they took one drink off!!! Terrible response. So it's a no from me ever again. Thanks for the feedback. It was literally the end of the meal when the bone was found. You seem to be missing the point that it shouldn't be left to your server to deal with this as a Manager. That's the point I'm making, and to discount by one drink doesn't cut it.

We turned up as a party of 6 without booking and managed to get a table outside which was fine as it was a nice day. Spent over 30 mins waiting to order a drink due to the staff members finding it more important to chat to each other rather than serve. Once finally getting a drink we went up to order food as there was no table service. There was a blonde middle aged woman who served my partner and friends at the bar and was very rude. I believe her name was Jen however I could be wrong. She was very patronising and constantly shaking her head at him as he is trying to order food. Very unprofessional and straight up rude. I will say also at this point in time there was no queue for food, just at the bar which was separate to ordering food. When we received our food, majority of us left a fair bit as it wasn’t great. We could collectively agree that the chips were still frozen in the middle and hard/crunchy and cold. Considering it cost £15 for most meals if not more, it felt like a complete waste of money. The waiters/waitresses were very young and quite inexperienced. They seemed blunt and rushed however I would blame management for that as there didn’t seem enough staff on. The only positive was that the drinks were okay. Overall we will not be returning. This place needs seriously sorting out, particularly on customer service.

I booked a table for my family of 6 on bank holiday Monday at 4pm. I visit regularly with my children as it is a firm favourite of theirs in terms of dining out and the food was delicious, as always. The service, however, was disappointing to say the least. On ordering our food i was informed that there was no steak. I had already ordered a red wine but i would have ordered a white wine had i known that there was no steak available. The waitress returned 10 minutes later to take the order once again but i was then informed that there were also no chicken skewers available. I then asked if she could let me know what else was not available to avoid disappointment for a third time. I left our table to discuss the issues with the head waitress, who appeared to be front of house, but she was dismissive and rather rude. She stated that i did not 'need' to drink my red wine if i was not enjoying it, to which i promptly replied that i was actually enjoying my wine, it is just that i would not have ordered a red wine had i known that a steak was not available. I suggested that it would be helpful to inform customers of any items not available as soon as they arrive but my comments were ignored. We needed another round of drinks before our food arrived but our waitress was no where to be found so i left our table again to queue at the bar for these. On returning to our table 20 minutes later the food had arrived but with no cutlery so i had to source some. I then had to chase side orders including bread and butter for the fish and chips and parmesan cheese for the spaghetti bolognese for the children, but even though i mentioned this these never arrived. We left feeling very disappointed with the service indeed. There was no thank you for our custom and no acknowledgement as we left whatsoever. When you spend over £100 as a family on a meal out as a rare treat i think you certainly have the right to expect more!

Lovely pub, bags of history. Great food and Robby's beers. Some super walks close by, to justify a bit of indulgence. Two years later, I still stand by much of that review however, it has become much more of a restaurant and those out for just a drink are not encouraged. Service at the bar is often very slow.

Just visited, the place has changed,no upstairs seating only downstairs, food was just as good as the previous visits . Another visit just as good as the last, had the same meal again ,very nice coffee with ameretto flovour ,wife had the home made soup, which was also great , staircase is a little steep as it's an old building but that adds to the Charm as do the separate rooms, very friendly staff, excellent choice of food good choice of flavoured coffees

We popped in after pumpkin picking as it was only one minute's drive away and were not disappointed. The service was lovely from every member of staff that we interacted with and the Sunday roasts were good but possibly lacked a bit of seasoning
