Lovely little spot in Gawsworth. A variety of options for food and drinks, with options for allergies and vegans. Great friendly service with drinks and taking our orders. Food arrive hot and promptly, freshly made fish and chips and some burgers with side dishes and finished with tasty desserts. Lovely night out start to finish, and priced VERY fairly. Will definitely be back!

We came in for afternoon lunch with our 1 month old and toddler at about 3. Welcoming staff and table service very prompt. The food was excellent and service was great. Could do with something for a toddler/school age to keep entertained.

been here for evening meals for 11 days now due to work and staying in the premier inn n having my meals paid for. lewis, charlie (i think he was called) shelly and the rest of the team have been amazing and very welcoming, for the most part the meals have been lovely, there is a bit of a wait for food if the place is busy but that’s to be expected. thank you again guys and keep up the good work

Food was average at best, and after being told to take a seat and our drinks would be brought to us i had to ask 3 times when we would get drinks

Took my Family on Friday 31st Jan. The menu was reasonable and had a good selection. The food was really good and was served without any problems. We found the Staff friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was very cosy. Would recommend it to any one.

I want to say thank you to Andy, Chloe & their amazing team, I held my husbands wake at The Rising Sun, from start to finish their support & help has been fantastic. It was a large turn out which they handled efficiently, keeping the buffet well stocked and drinks flowing. Again a huge thank you to all.

Sadly this was a really poor experience. We have just moved to the area and this was our first dining experience in Macc. We ordered 2 portions of lasagna, a pie and a mixed grill. The pie was nice, but the lasagna was dry and burnt with one portion burnt to the dish and largely inedible apart from the very centre. My mixed grill was cold, the gammon was nice however the steak was so tough I couldn’t chew it, the chicken was burnt and the sausage tasted like meaty shredded wheat. Really poor quality food and I left most of it. I brought this to the attention of the waiter, who apologised. The manager simply said let the kitchen know, but there was no offer to replace the food or reduce the bill. Hugely disappointed as this is our local pub, but we certainly won’t be going there again, things go wrong, but one of the lasagna was visibly burnt and should not have left the kitchen in that state. I’m sure there’s something the manager could’ve done to make our experience more acceptable, it seems he couldn’t be bothered. Save your money and go elsewhere!

Went for a family meal we waited over an hour for the food and it wasn't that busy when it came mine was cold in the middle of the pie the gravy wouldn't come out of its pot it was so thick and I came with veg apparently it actually came with 1 piece of broccoli and nothing else ruined the night

Working in the area, first night evening meal was very nice, good choice on the menu and food nice and hot, breakfast the following morning was also very good great choice and well cooked. Evening meal the following evening it was busy and despite staying next door in the premier inn we had to wait and hour for food, this was too long for me and meant I would be eating too late. So I declined my work colleague waited and ate alone.

This is our go to place for special meals out. There is a wide variety of meals including a lunch menu option. The food is amazing and well presented. Had 2 hot drinks today with a perfect serve! The service is brilliant, the lovely young girl there is always very friendly and welcoming and made my daughter's birthday extra special by bringing us a cookie with a candle in! It's beautifully clean. There are even games and books for children available along with colouring sheets. They have lots of interesting events advertised as well. It is the classiest, upmarket Greene King pub in this area that we have been to, would highly recommend.

We went for the breakfast with Santa event. My 2 daughters have allergies to dairy and egg. When I booked the table via the website I put this on the note section. When I mentioned to our server she already had that information and made us aware of the breakfast choices that would be safe for them and offered me the allergen menus and made sure alternative milk was available for the cereals. The breakfast was lovely and lots of choice for the price we paid. The girls loved their experience, it was well worth the money, and the little grotto was perfectly decorated for the big man Father Christmas himself.

Amazing place to dine always made to feel welcome, food was spot on for both me & my slow eating toddler, couldn't praise the place more tbh, (does have a later than needed time to kick out kids too which was nice as was running late for tea).

Brought my colleagues and the young men we support for a Xmas meal we purchased the 2 courses for £17.99 option from the Xmas menu the food was lovely and the staff and service the same. Will be popping in again next year for at least one of the musical tribute acts and 2 course meal afternoon they put on here.

Went for the festive menu and the food was great but it was the staff who made this an even more enjoyable experience! Lewis was so welcoming and friendly, he really made our evening more special!

Came here for Christmas dinner with friends. The baked mini camembert, the Turkey pie and the Christmas pudding were delicious. Thanks Shelley & Lewis for the excellent service 👌

A group of 23 of us booked for the Christmas 3 course meal. The booking was for 7pm and it took the staff until after 8 pm to start bringing the Starters to us in dribs and Drabs. We were advised the Vegetable soup was not available and we're offered 3 alternatives. One of which turned out to be not available. 1 person did not like the alternatives to the soup but was not offered anything else or her money back for this. The main courses arrived again after the staff not clearing the tables and again in dribs and drabs. The cranberry sauce arrived after most people had finished there meals. The Turkey was beautifully cooked but the Salmon was overcooked, Some of the vegetables were more than slightly Al dente and some cold. Again the tables were not cleared properly and the sweets arrived again in dribs and drabs. We were not offered the option of brandy sauce for the Christmas puddings and the pitiful amount of Custard that was to shared between everyone was very disappointing. The overall experience ended around 10.30 meaning it had taken 3 and a half hours to serve 3 courses if food. There were only 3 staff we could see in the premises and they seemed to be trying to cook and serve at the same time. They appear to be prioritising walk in customers and blamed this partially on the poor service and lack of staff allowed to work by the management. Finally the Cheese and biscuits ordered specially for two people and confirmed the day before were not brought out and we were told that was only available on Christmas day. We shall not be booking this again! Please think carefully before booking a large party for a meal.

Absolutely fabulous staff, a really nice venue and lovely, well cooked and well priced food! The staff clearly take pride in serving meals to the best possible standard. From the seating staff right through to the kitchen staff we were treated with courtesy and like our customer experience matters. Well done Shelley and the rest of your team!

Have eaten here many times and never had a bad experience. Came again tonight and was served by Shelley. Once again no complaints.

Go in regularly but never had steak and ale pie before and never will again usually food is excellent but this pie is all pastry thick and hard enough to knock a nail in with absolutely awful. I think it's time to get a baker who can bake a pie. Definitely won't be having this again.

After being hounded to pay for the meals two weeks before we arrived, we were assured that we could pay on the day (after already paying £35 deposit) they insisted that paying upfront was “easier” so that they could make sure they had everything ready for us. I refused and said that’s what a deposit is for. I got a call back apologising if I’d been made to feel uncomfortable. On arrival I tried to pay for the food bill but there was an issue with the bill and it was on hold. We had to ask for the food and were told there was an issue and they were writing all the meals down for the kitchen. Food came out minus my child’s meal which came out after a fairly long wait and minus roast potatoes because they’d run out! Offered mash which then took another 5 mins to come out. My broccoli was cold in the middle, burnt black parsnip and black stuffing ball. Husband’s food was cold too. They forgot my cheesecake and when it came it was tasteless. Clearing the tables was awful, they kept leaving half the plates. My dad and husband got up to take all the glasses back. Table next to us were told no roast potatoes for their orders. We had to chase up everything. Bar ran out of beer. It wasn’t even busy. Never again. Extremely disappointing. We’d pre ordered - how can they run out of what were presumable frozen roast potatoes in December? Booked a time slot, why did we have to keep asking for each course? Didn’t expect too much for the price but this was substandard. Not even a massive party. 6 adults and a child!

Love this pub come here all the time with the family- Chloe is lovely always helps us out and makes time for the kids and our dog Bella can’t fault her amazing women inside and out

We stayed in the adjacent Premier Inn and came here for dinner. The staff were great, the menu was very different to the usual restaurant offering at Premier Inn and very welcome. The food was great and the general atmosphere of the place was welcoming. A really nice surprise.

I had a lovely visit to The Rising Sun Pub tonight. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with chips and a slice of cheesecake for dessert. The food was decent and satisfying, but what really stood out was the atmosphere and the service. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making sure everything went smoothly. The highlight of my visit was the singing while I was grabbing a drink before heading out— (You know who you are!) it added such a fun and unique vibe to the experience. If you’re looking for a warm, friendly pub with great service and a lively atmosphere, The Rising Sun is definitely worth a visit.

Diabolical food !!! I would not recommend. Ordered using mobile app only to be told the food I order was not available. Food was swapped to another dish which was cheaper with no reimbursement. food items missing, incomplete orders and quite frankly below average food. Staff chatting amongst themselves about vulgar instances. Completely unprofessional, unwelcoming and rude. I only thing I couldn't fault was the server who brought out the food.

Eaten here Monday and Tuesday. Very nice food. Was told tonight by the barman I cannot eat in the bar where I have eaten all week because they weren’t busy…. Whether this is one individual saying this or Greene King policy I care not. I just wanted to eat on my own and in privacy.

Just had a lovely pint of Old Golden Hen beer. So smooth. Dangerously yumiii.

Amazing Sunday roasts, Yorkshire puddings were huge! The staff were perfect and friendly despite being extremely busy, couldn’t recommend more

A terrible experience from start to finish. Visited on a Sunday afternoon as a family party of 9. The service was diabolical. We ordered mains over 3 orders, there was a minimum of 20 minutes between each order arriving, which came out of sync compared to time of ordering. By the time some of us were served, others had finished and one of the sides came after everyone had finished and after asking several times. Our main server was very unapproachable and unfriendly. During this fiasco, we also waited 30 minutes for 2 soft drinks. Yes it was Sunday afternoon, yes we were a party of 9, but the pub wasn't overly busy and no reasons were provided for such poor service. We had young children who wanted a dessert, so we asked one of the servers how long that wait would be, given our drinks took 30 mins and the food was so slow. We were told they would make sure it came in a timely manner. It did not. We ordered all desserts on one order but we still received them in dribs and drabs, with some members of our party having finished whilst others were still waiting. We were also waiting on more drinks. I raised this at the bar and asked for management. The manager we spoke to was apologetic but still had an air of 'I dont care' about her. She couldn't answer our reasonable queries about our experience and agreed to refund the last round of drinks that had still not arrived, and the desserts as we had asked about service before ordering. Nothing mentioned about the £200+ we had wasted in mains. It then took a further 15 minutes for a refund to be issued. All in all, a shambles of a visit, not ever to be repeated by us, and not to be recommended to others either. We should have driven the 5 minutes extra to the next venue, I suggest everyone else does too!

Can't fault it, 2 main course meals for under £15.

Took the kids, had a stressful afternoon, kids loved the food they all calmed down, had a great pint of Moretti. Staff were great.

Been in this pub everyday friendly staff would recommend it to anyone meal prices very reasonable good entertainment once a month

The food was pleasant and so was the atmosphere, I had the katsu chicken which was really pleasant. I struggled to get past the fact that it was served with basmati rice, but it worked surprisingly well.

I came with my mum and son after work and the food was hot and realy nice.. my son had fun with the games at the bar while waiting for our food..

Very slow service when the place was practically empty. Food ok when it finally came and they did offer us free dessert but unfortunately not all our group could stay for these as had already been there 2 hours! One member of staff looked so miserable to be there and just plonked food down in front of us. Won’t be returning.

Working in the hospitality sector certainly makes me more aware of the Tiny Noticeable Things when visiting somewhere different. Might have only been a burger and chips but was lovely served up by what I could see two lovely ladies quite clearly enjoying what they do. It appeared quite obvious whilst having a good Munch on my burger that Shelly and Lorna make a great team. Thanks for the 5 star service. I will be back.

Staff seemed very friendly upon arrival. Unfortunately the risotto I ordered was not cooked at all. I am not one to complain and would normally just eat it anyway… but this was like eating it straight out of the packet. So much so it put me off eating anything at all. The waitress was actually very understanding, as I explained the situation to her with a red face and feeling so bad. They offered me another meal of my choice and reassured me it wasn’t a problem numerous times. Unfortunately as we were leaving, I walked past a conversation with that staff member and someone who seemed like a regular joking about it. Understandably it’s frustrating when someone does this but as a person who is reluctant to complain… perhaps wait until we leave to do this.

Stayed in the hotel next door and had an early dinner as I had been up since 3am, ordered the mixed grill with extras, the mushrooms were stone cold, the onion rings were not cooked at all, still raw inside and limp. The beef dripping gravy was also cold, and this mornings breakfast, a bowl of porridge, was barely luke warm. Doubt it had more than 20 seconds in a microwave. Despite, being first down for breakfast, was the last one to have my order taken. Staff member more interested in a grpup of builders close to her age and flirting with them. I Stayed here some years ago and the service and food were excellent then. This place has gone way downhill, and I will not be eating here again.

The food is lovely and the staff are very friendly. The deals between Tuesday and Thursday are well worth the money. I love the puddings, but being GF does stop me usually, but they do have a lovely gf, cheese cake, which Is well worth a try.

Just had the Signature BBQ burger... Think it was signed by a four year old with a blunt pencil, however the ants crawling all over the tabe seemed to be enjoying it.

Staff are amazing and so so friendly. Place is clean & tidy with tables set & cleared quickly. Hubby had Sunday roast, very tasty & good portion, fresh veg too. I had sirloin steak, asked for med rare got med to well done BUT it was delicious and so tender. My glass had lipstick on it, this was changed by a very apologetic staff member. All together a great meal & would recommend anyone to visit. Oh and value for money too, bonus. Took pictures but no tag to upload

A pleasant surprise, just what we needed

Booked online, only tables available were after 8pm arrived early and were only around 4 other tables, we got told to order quickly as kitchen is closing, not clear on if we go up and order or wait for it to be taken, ended up ordering on the app and our drinks were forgotten so had to go up ask for them. Food was not nice and cold, won’t be returning any time soon.

Was staying at the Premier Inn next door for one night for a football match, your assistant manager (Lorna?????) was very helpful and advised us where to go and directed us in the right direction, a star, our evening meal was lovely, we had a lovely evening which enhanced our weekend.

15 minute wait for someone to appear behind the bar. Six customers in the pub. No chips, apparently they are waiting for a delivery. No atmosphere whatsoever.

Not in Gawsworth about 2 miles North on main road. Could have a better selection of real ales but otherwise OK.

Very dissatisfied with my experience at breakfast I had to ask for a plate for toast as non available I was given one knob of butter which would not even be ènough for oñe slice, when cooked breakfast arrived the sausage was dry and rock solid I was unable to cut it, mushroom dry and shrivelled small portions, very poor value.

Hadn’t been to the Rising sun for sometime. What a great evening with my wife, normally we would just have a main meal, but watching the starters arrive on other tables we went for it. Will be coming again spot on and the service was brill.

A clean and welcoming pub which serves a range of meals. We opted for the 2 meals for £14.49 the chicken curry dish and hallumi salad. Both excellent choices. Staff were very friendly and very positive experience.

Went for the club classics today, very reasonably priced. Food was okay, but my Katsu curry breaded chicken was burnt and far too crunchy. The rosemary and sea salt fries had no rosemary or sea salt on them unfortunately. There was an item missed from the order as well but it eventually arrived. There weren't enough staff. It was relatively busy. A nice environment but I wouldn't plan to go again soon.
