Sean, Ness and their team looked after our group of 13 couples superbly. We had exclusive use of the garden marquee for 3 hours from 1pm on a Saturday afternoon. No deposit or pre-ordering required, we just ordered from the regular pub menu. Good food served efficiently in a cheerful manner.

Omg, amazing pub!!! I cannot rate this pub enough. Visited on a girlie break away for my friends 60th. Pub is beautiful with horses in the field behind. However the food, was bloody amazing. Restaurant quality for sure. We had a selection of starters, which we shared. All of them lovely. The chef came out telling us about The seafood grill. My only complaint would be, the description on the specials board, didn't do the dish justice. If the chef hadn’t come out, I wouldn’t have ordered it, as I thought it was just grilled fish. However, it came in a beautiful creamy sauce with bread, the portion size was massive. Worth every penny. It was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. However, best bit for me is, we weren’t staying far away from home!!! This means I can go back and take my daughter, who has coeliac disease. The menu has loads of gluten free options. Almost forgot to mention the staff! We were really looked after and the staff were fab, very friendly and patient with a group of 7 chattering women!! Thanks for a wonderful memorable evening.

Quite how we found the Blackwood Arms we are not sure but delighted we did find this hidden gem. Our third visit was on our return home from watching Burnley at Chelsea. It’s always a plus when you receive a warm welcome and that’s exactly how we were welcomed. We were soon seated and from that moment we were looked after promptly throughout by the lovely and helpful staff which was no surprise given it has been like that on previous visits. The food, again, was outstanding with all four in our party able to enjoy three courses having managed to arrive on time. Our thanks to everyone there for making our visit so special and we look forward to visiting again when the opportunity arises.

Called up about 4/5 weeks prior to book a table for Mothers day lunch and offered a 12.45 booking which was great. The pub was busy (as expected) and made to feel very welcome. We were seated in the marquee (which the main advantage of more space vs. inside) quite close to the entrance. Both the heaters were lit and didn't feel much of a chill. As tables go, it wasn't the best table as you see the coming and going from the team/ chefs, and on one occasion, they needed ice with the machine located just outside where we were sat. It's not ideal and the team member did apologise for it (which was appreciated) Ordered three roast beef, which is perfectly cooked on the rare side, plenty of fresh vegetables and we ordered a side of cauliflower cheese which was enough for the three of us. Bit of a wait on food arriving (to be expected on this Sunday) and generally when we've eaten prior never had to wait overly long. Service was 100%, food and drink quality 100%. Chef came out personally to ask how everything was and took time to explain to our daughter what they used to flavour the roast potatoes when she asked him. Would I recommend ? - Yes (in colder months, I'd ask for a warmer table) Would I go again ? Yes

Here for the roast. Vegetarian option of nut roast was a BIG disappointment. I thought I'd be getting a slither of nut roast with yorkshire puds and veg, gravy etc, the reality was no roast Potatoes weren't great, no puds and no gravy, so not technically a roast. Shame really as food was tasty but chefs need to understand a veggie can enjoy a roast without meat and the trimmings and still deliver a roast. Potatoes need love too.

We have been coming here for Sunday lunch for some years now and the standards are consistently excellent. The food is amazing with the best vegetarian option I have had in any pub anywhere (goats cheese bake)! And my friend tells me that the roast meat dishes are equally perfectly cooked and delicious too. Dogs are made very welcome and it’s a such a pleasure to visit here. An absolute gem!

Two hour walk before lunch and then on to Footy at Burnham v Egham. The three of us reckoned the food was brilliant. My Steak & Kidney pudding was especially good and the "jus" was out of this world. I wish I could present carrot, broccoli and cabbage "al dente" as good as this. Only one disappointment. No cola in bottles, my mates had great real ale, so I had tap water which was surprisingly good as I live in hard water Sarf London. Wish I could afford to live close to this wonderful watering hole ! Many thanks. Oops, forgot to add how helpful was the staff. I had Very muddy boots and was welcomed, even by the chef who took the trouble to ask "how was the meal"? Thank you Blackwood Arms.

We booked a meal for Saturday evening as part of our journey home having watched Burnley beat Fulham. Despite our arrival being delayed by 30 minutes we were still made very welcome. There were four of us who all had two courses, starter and main course, and drinks. Everything was spot on and really enjoyable. We’d like to make a special mention to the lady who took care of us. She went above and beyond and even gave us extra gravy because she knew that northern boys love gravy. I booked for four for Sunday lunch as pictures on the website showed a marquee with heaters, it wasn't a very warm day but these were never turned on so we got very cold and had to put our coats back on before we finished our meal. The food was very mediocre with one slice of beef draped over a single roast potato with a small amount of gravy on a cold plate, the mixed veg of carrot, broccoli, and cabbage was barely cooked, cold and was all served mixed in one very cold bowl. There was no additional gravy to pour on the veg which was just cold and dry. When we told the waitress about the cold plates and food she did apologised but this didn't make up for having cold lunches. The desserts were very nice and hot! When we ordered flat white coffee's we got a black coffee with a very small portion of separate cold milk between 3 of us, which when added to the coffee in cold cups made it a lukewarm coffee, when bringing this to the waitresses attention she was totally in the dark as to what a flat white actually was - possibly the machine didn't have directions for this! After spending £136 I expected better and have certainly received much better food and service in other establishments.

I felt compelled to write this about the Blackwood Arms after seeing two poor reviews recently. We visited yesterday for lunch with friends. We had a table in the garden under the vine pergola. The garden itself is small but well laid out with views across the countryside. So a good start. The service and food were excellent. The menu is varied and should suit everyone. As it was a beautiful afternoon we went outside to enjoy the beautiful setting. We were shocked to see a group of young women exiting the pub not wearing masks. When it clearly stated that any movement entering, leaving or using the toilets required you to wear masks. As this is also a government requirement. When the Landlord challenged them on this they became argumentative and churlish. Actually trying to make him feel in the wrong. He asked them to leave. It did not spoil our wonderful time but did make us think and appreciate what publicans have to go through on a daily basis to keep us safe. Average roast dinner followed by shouts and screams from the drunken landlord for dessert. Seems like this is a common trend looking at other reviews. Not entirely sure how he still has a business as can’t imagine they have any return customers. 5 twenty-something girls entered the pub with masks, all used their own antibac as none was provided and kept to ourselves. We were promptly kicked off our table after 1 hour 20 minutes and obediently picked up our things and rushed out - as the closest table to the door and not crossing paths with anyone in the 2 step walk to the door from our table we forgot our masks in the rush. We were then greeted by the aggressive and extremely intimidating landlord sitting on the seats with his friends clearly marked ‘do not sit here for Covid reasons’. We noticed him on exit because of the plume of smoke we had to walk through from his cigarette right by the door. We decided to sit on a bench outside to finish our conversation and suddenly we’re met with abuse being shouted from the man we assumed must be a drunk customer who then turned out to be the landlord himself. Telling us we were ‘poisoning his pub and the old people, clearly we don’t give two s**** about old people’. At first we simply apologised and tried to explain that we were rushed out and the proximity of our table meant we were within 1m of the door but you’re right, were sorry. For some reason this seemed to provoke him further, funnily enough this was all AFTER we had given him our money and business. I have never experienced anyone be spoken to like that, let alone a paying customer. I can only describe it as terrifying, disgusting and a really really awful way to finish what had been a lovely day. I was stunned that none of his friends were willing to step in and stop him from f***ing and blinding at us. Really a bit embarrassing. feel for his staff who were lovely, imagine if we’d actually done something wrong! A mean who does not have a way with words haha and clearly is a regular occurrence. A drunken man on a power trip who went out of his way to make us feel extremely uncomfortable. Wouldn’t wish upon anyway. Avoid at all costs.

I don’t normally write reviews but this incidence was so appalling that I felt I had to.Vile abusive landlord, safe to say I will never return and will tell my friends to avoid this place at all costs. Unfortunately it seems that Sean, the owner, has been abusive to many customers after reading other trip advisor comments and would really benefit from attending a customer service course. My visit started off very well, we arrived with our face masks on and waited outside while a waitress found our booking. We had a pleasant meal and paid £100 for 5 roasts and got up to leave. Our table was just 3 steps away from the door and there were no other tables surrounding us.As we left a man, who later identified himself as the owner, was sat on a bench right next to the entrance, clearly not 2 metres away from people entering and leaving (picture attached), he was smoking and as I left had to walk through a thick haze of second hand smoke to get out. As a non smoker I really didn’t appreciate this. We then sat on a bench on the other side of the road to the main pub to order more drinks. We were met with a comment from the owner about not wearing our masks when leaving the pub, we apologised instantly and explained we completely forgot and explained we had been sat right next to the door. He then started to get excessively angry and abusive, he said we are the young people killing the ‘oldies’, that he would have to pay a fine and lose his licence if we were caught (not in fact true), he proceed to make comments saying “do you think you’re too posh to bother wearing a mask”(not sure where that comment stemmed from). After ignoring all of these comments he then started to shout louder, swearing every second word and clearly wanted a confrontation. Ironically, Sean, the owner, was sat on a bench clearly marked ‘do not sit’ as a Covid precautionary measure, so for someone who is acting so righteous and screaming the rules, they were in fact not following their own rules. After we said we wouldn’t return after the way he spoke to us, Sean told us to f**k off saying “I don’t care if you never come back”! What a way to treat paying customers who had already apologised for an honest mistake made...! Utterly disgraceful.

Both of us had a dodgy tummy after eating the fish pie. We called the duty manager & were assured they were cooked fresh daily. Anyway i spent the day feeling sick - didnt think it was at all that tasty. No seasoning & very liquidity in filling. The service was average. No check backs no extra care. Absolutely disgusted with the landlord at The Blackwood Arms. Drunk, yelling, swearing at for not wearing a mask to walk the 2 metres from our table back outside. We had apologised and in complete honesty, completely forgot to put them on (which I understand is not acceptable). But to be sworn at, yelled at, humiliated and told he couldn’t give a **** if we never returned to his pub and left a trip advisor review.. was unbelievable. Bullying 5 23 year old girls is not what I would have expected having paid £100 for a roast dinner. In complete and utter shock that anyone could treat someone this way, never mind customers. Absolutely disgusting behaviour and we will, obviously, never be returning. A very disappointing end to what otherwise would have been a delightful day out in the countryside. Sean is letting his lovely, friendly staff down. Having read the many other customer reviews it seems we were not the only ones exposed to this horrendous behaviour. I’m sure Sean will have a great excuse as to why he acted like a toddler, as he has for all the other bad reviews. Pathetic.

Before the lockdown My wife and a friend visited this place and she was so enthusiastic about it that she wanted and insisted that we should pay a visit at some point .The original plan was too drive down to Surrey and eat in a pub somewhere. Unfortunately we experienced some traffic and we had to change plan and that’s why I suggested to go to this place much closer to home. After a short drive here we are in the middle of the forest, the location is perfect! Although it seemed quite fully booked they squeezed us in. We would have preferred to eat in the beautiful large garden but because of the above we had to eat inside which in a way was good as we had the whole place to ourselves. The menu was quintessential English. We started with Whitebait to share which were quite tasty followed by Steak & Stilton Pies. The flavour was superb with a succulent gravy and Jus on the side. Although my wife seemed quite happy with the quantity of meat I might have been a bit unfortunate as mine was not so meaty. We ended the meal with a Sticky Toffee Pudding luscious and wicked followed by an acceptable Coffee. The young staff were courteous and professional. To make the day more pleasant we were joined by an unexpected guest! a little chubby robin appeared which apparently is a regular here, hopping around and alighting on a chair adjacent to me. Yes, I would like to go back sometime in the future even if it is not “Eat out to help out” and try their Sunday Roast because We don’t just go to eat somewhere because is cheap but because is good!!!

We had lunch at the Blackwood Arms in the busy Christmas week after a walk in Burnham Beeches in what's become something of a Christmas tradition for us. We'd booked a table beforehand. The pub's an ideal place to call in at after a cold winter walk. It's small, cosy and atmospheric, and there's a roaring log fire in the grate - the heart-warming aroma of burning logs permeates the place. After we'd seated ourselves, we ordered our food and drinks, and both arrived remarkably quickly bearing in mind how busy the place was. The helpings were generously sized. The staff were both friendly and attentive, despite the pressures they were working under. I'm sure we'll return to the Blackwood Arms next Christmas.

Excellent Saturday lunch in an out of the way yet surprisingly busy location. Very good staff. Probably best to book a table.

After a very enjoyable, but wet walk across the hills, this cosy pub was the lunch stop - great. Decent beer, generous portions of well cokked food, swiftly and cheerfully served. Offers to sample the various beers before buying. Already arranged another walk based around the same pub.Closed Mondays and the car parking is not great. From the walker's perspective, all-day opening for the pubs locally means 12.00, so no coffee stop!

This used to be my local 25 years ago. I remember queues of people waiting to get in for Sunday roast. Beautiful home made lasagne and salad. Satisfying Cumberland sausage with chips eggs and beans. Perfect on a cold day! The landlord was in the Guinness Book of Records for having the most real ales in a year - 1200 odd. It is in a beautiful quiet location hidden away on the edge of Burnham Beeches. My friend and I met for a reunion lunch last week. The pub has been tastefully refurbished inside, with soft lighting and candles on every table. The atmosphere and location is perfect for a country pub. The outside is virtually unchanged and still lovely. The choice of beers was very limited and ordinary. We shared whitebait to start, which was okay but gave the impression it had been bought frozen. I then had chicken pie, made specially for the pub apparently, but again it was ordinary and lacked flavour. It was served with a plain dollop of mash and some vegetables that looked like they had been hastily steamed in the microwave and were quite bland. My friend had the fish pie, it looked okay but he didn’t comment on it. The staff were lovely and I would definitely come back for a beer and crisps. The food needs seriously jacking up. When there are so many fantastic beers to choose from these days it was disappointing to see such an uninspiring choice. In summary, lovely atmosphere but just needs more passion in the food and drinks department!

My sentimental attachments to this wonderful Burnham Beeches pub go back almost 25 years. But sentimentality aside, this pub is lovely, with a cozy fire, a gorgeous garden, great food, friendly people, and nice range of real ales and more. Well worth going out of your way to visit if you're in the area.

Was very hopeful that this quaint pub would produce great food. I chose the fish pie which was truly dreadful. Only salmon detected and a thick topping which comprised mainly cheese breadcrumbs. The consistency was awful. Tiny shreds of salmon! Won't be returning

Popped into The Blackwood for an impromptu dinner and pint after a lovely dog walk in the Beeches. The pub is in a lovely setting, is dog friendly and serves good food and a lovely pint. We sat out in the marquee with our dog. Lovely patio heaters were lit to give a warm and cosy feel. The staff were friendly and very hospitable. We had great pub food staples,a burger for me and ham egg and chips for my wife. Both were lovely!

Came for Sunday lunch just gone, arriving at the pub we were looked after well by staff and shown to our table in the garden... service was lovely and so was the food the only downside was the underlying stench of sewage in the garden which was a bit off putting, but as it was such lovely weather we decided to just continue our lunch in the garden. If our experience had finished here this reveiw would have been a different story. However upon paying our bill at the bar a man that I can only assume is the landlord barged past us and demanded a drink from the staff behind the bar, showing my suprise the clearly inebriated landlord repsonded by telling/shouting at me "there is a que". We were quite taken aback and embarassed by his behavior and it left a bitter taste in our mouths ruining our experience and ruining the atmosphere. We will not be returning. I do hope the staff dont have to put up with this behavior day to day, what a nightmare.

A lovely place close to the woods of Burnham Beeches. You feel as if you're in the depths of the country even though it's close to the M40 and Slough. They have a very pretty beer garden, excellent beer and good food. I dragged myself off my usual of a burger and had a special of crab - excellent. The pub can be very busy at peak times throughout the year, but that's to be expected for such a charming place.

Used to love this place, but over the past year or so, bad management decisions have led to inexorable decline. Example: When I asked why there was no gherkin with my burger, even though the menu clearly stated I should expect one, staff apologetically explained the publican is trying to control costs. More vacations that way. Oh well; we're taking our business elsewhere!

Visited early lunchtime on a weekday and was greeted by a very friendly staff member. The setting was great and I was able to sit in the garden. The menu had a reasonable choice but I was a bit disappointed by the food itself.Although my starter( whitebait) was pretty good, my main course(Cajun chicken with olive salad) was less so as there was not a lot of chicken and the salad had too much oil in the dressing.

Top place for a carvery. We come here frequently. Staff are really lovely and it's a nice atmosphere, unlimited soft drinks are well worth it. Lots on offer but be careful booking a table late in the evening as there's a higher chance they'll run out of meat. Heartbroken you've taken the dauphinoise potato/hot pot dish off the carvery. Please bring it back! My only complaint is needing to get the drinks on the table a bit quicker. We're often still waiting for them after having already started our meals. Lots of discounts and deals available if you sign up to their mailing list or download the app so that's worth doing too.

We come here quite often, for special occasions, birthdays etc. Today, I had quite literally one of the best steaks, I've ever had. Period. The chef deserves a massive raise! It was cooked perfectly. Starters (calamari, koftas and camebert) and drinks all came out hot, promptly and were all scrumptious! Mains (steaks, chicken supreme tagliatelle, pie and burger) were all fantastic! So stuffed, couldn't manage dessert, but thank you so much! Hats off, Palmers Arms has done it again!!
